Cannot use win7 fonts in xfce4-terminal

Hi, I recently installed the ttf-win7-fonts AUR package successfully. I can use these fonts in LibreOffice, but not in xfce4-terminal. I do not see them in the menu for fonts when I go to Preferences->Appearance->Font.
The .ttf files are in the /usr/share/fonts/TTF directory. I tried running fc-cache and restarting xfce4-terminal and Awesome. I also tried creating a ~/.fonts directory, copying the .ttf files there, but I still cannot use them.
What am I missing? Any help is appreciated.

Im not sure about this but, why would you want those fonts in terminal? : i suggest to take a lot at the infinality repo that has a lot more fonts and tey are open source.

  • Cannot use byobu shotcut in gnome-terminal after upgrading GNOME 3.12

I cannot use byobu to create a vertical pane in gnome-terminal after upgrading to gnome 3.12.
The shortcut of creating vertical pane is Shift+F2. When I press these keys, there is `6~' showing
    in the terminal.
I have tried this key binding in urxvt terminal. It still doesn't work. However, when I tried in Xfce-terminal,
    byobu worked well.
    Any ideas? Many thanks.

Okay I think I found a workaround, Byobu depends on tmux and the same issue is happening with tmux with Shift and all the function keys.
So to get things working, just set the env variable $TERM to "screen-256color"
    $ export TERM=screen-256color
and then run byobu again. I'm not sure if this will break other things, I'll report back if I find anything.
Thank you so much for this workaround! I already discussed the topic here without any success: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=184603.

  • The use of font in commercial

If I buy the font folio, can I use ' ITC AVANT GARDE' FONT in commercial in perpetuity?
And if so, can I get any document work which includes 'Adobe give permission of use the font in commercial' or anything for guarantee our use?

All fonts in the Adobe Font Folio may be used by licensees for commercial work assuming that you are not distributing the font itself. You may print directly to a print device with the fonts. You may create PDF, EPS, or PostScript files with the font embedded within those files. There is no royalties associated with distributing those PDF, EPS, or PostScript files with the embedded font. However, what you cannot do is distribute the font files themselves to anyone who isn't themselves directly licensed for the fonts and you cannot use the fonts as “web fonts” (i.e., live content rendered in a browser using the fonts). You can display rasterized text using the fonts in a browser, though.
You don't need anything beyond the EULA for the Font Folio (that is on the Font Folio disk itself or may be downloaded from Adobe's web site.

  • Using device fonts for printing

    Hello,
I was wondering how to use device fonts in Java. These are the fonts that are in the printer and not in the operating system.
I'm writing some point of sale software that needs to use the Star TSP100 printer on Windows 7 64.
I need to use the device font "control" in order to instruct the printer to open the cash drawer.
I would also like to use the device font "3of9" for barcodes. I know there are alternatives to using this, but directly from the printer would be easier than trying to purchase and deploy a barcode font.
I know that star micronics has a JPOS implementation, but not for windows 7 64. And the JPOS with the StarMicronics bin is cumbersome and unstable for the end user even in Windows XP 32 bit.
If I specify the font "control" java replaces it with the default font. i.e. Font deviceFont = new Font ("control", Font.PLAIN, 8.5); is just the default font and not "control"

I did find a solution to my problem, but I cannot use device fonts. You may also find this useful to address your issue. I opened the a print service and sent ASCII to it instead of creating and printing a graphic object. You'll need the [Command Emulator STAR Line Mode Command Specifications|http://www.star-micronics.co.jp/eng/service/usermanual/comemu_starline_pm.pdf] to know what the commands are for the TSP100 and TSP700. I've included a cheat sheet to find the HEX value of the ASCII command. Note that if you need to send several characters you'll need to use the space with it.
e.g. The command to select font is ESC RS F you'll need to send: 1B201E2046

  • Consolas font size (system vs. xfce4-terminal)

    Hi there,
I use infinality's patched fontconfig and the Consolas font for monospace. The problem I have is that 10pt Consolas is, imo, too small, whereas 11pt is too large.
The screenshot below shows how they look on my system (in Sublime Text, but its the same in e.g. Eclipse). The thing is that xfce4-terminal somehow displays
Consolas differently. I really like the style, but I dont know why this is the case and how to get the style in Sublime Text and Eclipse (or systemwide). Screenshots:
    http://imgur.com/aHx5Mpm,nfzOhOL,4tbp1VG
As you can see, the terminal version is smaller than 11pt but larger than 10pt. It is indeed Consolas, I checked multiple times.

The first two images are using the Truetype hinter, whereas the third image is using autohinter.  Not sure how some of your programs could be using one, but others using the other one?  I would check your fontconfig settings.  Also, unless your DPI is set to 72, pt heights are different than px heights (points vs. pixels).  So, there may in fact be one size inbetween the two you mentioned if you're using 96 dpi.

The "Roman" font is not being recognized in Firefox 4.0. As such, I cannot read any previously posted topics or post any new topics on websites using this font.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

    Hi,
As mentioned in ths article below, run for Office 365 products on to a Remote Desktop Session Host server is not supported. You can install Office products for Office 365 to a virtual desktop, but the virtual desktop must be assigned to a single user.

  • I just "upgraded" my iPhone with the new software. As a low vision person, your phone was always previously helpful. I now discover that I cannot use the phone easily. The font has been changed to a very narrow typeface and the greyscale has been altered

I just "upgraded" my iPhone with the new software. As a low vision person, your phone was always previously helpful. I now discover that I cannot use the phone easily. The font has been changed to a very narrow typeface and the greyscale has been altered to reduce contrast. The background is now grey as well rather than white. The accessibility options permit only three choices. First, increase type size. With the the low greyscale, thin typeface, increasing type size makes it HARDER to read. There is no option for contrast enhancement. Third, the background switch options suffers from the same deficit as the white background. The third choice is to enhance brightness but without the option to change contrast, this is useless. Am I missing something? Can this be fixed? How? When? Are you planning a similar negative "update"/change to other devices?

I am having the same problem. I have gone through every setting, set the bold font, contrast, larger font....everything I could find in any post to try and help - and between the new color scheme that makes it virtually impossible to use the pictures of my grandchildren as background (the picture colors now become the theme colors - which now match the colors of many of the "flat" icons...) I am finding the phone very difficult to use--espeically things like the calendar which has now become very hard to "see" and use. If I can't revert this thing to iOS6, I may have to get a different phone.

Hi,I cannot use Acrobat after 30 days on my new PC Win7, seems to be an issue with activation.
    Thanks
    Wolfgang

    Hi Sukrit,
The software package was bought from german distributor CANCOM on 2013-01-03.
I set up my account at Adobe and posted the serial number.
    This is the licence:
After 30 days I could not use Acrobat. Most time I only need the distiller for creating pdf from
Indesign. I reinstalled Acrobat several times, after 30 days it stops working again.
I contacted the support but without success. This PC used WIN XP.
Now I got a new PC win WIN7.
I got the message to visit may account, which I did. I can't remember to ckeck the serial
    number.
Photoshop and Indesign are working. Acrobat stopped after 30 days, this is the point my
    request started.
Trying to put in the serial number again yields this:
Please be so kind to clear this issue.
    With my best regards

    Hi ,
Could you please elaborate more about the issue?
What are the challenges you are facing with activation of Acrobat ?
The basic method to activate/license Acrobat is by typing in your Adobe credentials ,i.e Adobe
    ID and password.
That will let you access Acrobat easily.
Let us know if you are experiencing any more difficulties in activating Acrobat .

  • Cannot Select Text That Use Certain Fonts

I have some PDF files where I cannot select the text because they use certain fonts (monotxt for example) when I change the font to Arial and recreate the PDF, then I can select the fonts for copy and paste. My question is how to add fonts that Adobe can recognize for selection.

The fonts are invisible to selection. I cannot select them at all. I do have the license for these fonts. I did some further tests and found that it only happens when I make a PDF from my AutoCAD application and use the monotxt font type. I guess it could be a problem with the AutoCAD application and the creation of the PDF and not the Adobe Reader.

  • Fonts visible but cannot use

Recently I went to use a glyph from Webdings and found that, while the font's characters are all visible in Character Palette and FontBook, I cannot use/insert them. When I try I get this message:
The font you are typing in has been substituted by another.
The font "Webdings"does not contain one or more of the characters you have entered and will be substituted by the font "Last Resort"......
A few days before this happened (though I cannot say there is a cause and effect relationship) I installed Linotype's FontExplorer, copied all fonts into it, and opted to have it clear the font caches as it recommended.
In a third-party font viewer called FontDoc, the characters for Webdings do NOT appear, but are substituted by Lucida Grande. Same with Wingdings 1, 2, &3. It may be true also of other fonts, I have not checked them all. Of course the symbol I need just now is in Webdings and inaccessible, whether I drag it into a doc or use the "Insert with Font" button.
    What I have done:
Trashed FontExplorer and all its files.
    Repaired Prefs.
I will run Onyx as soon as I finish the document I am working on (and back everything up).
    Any other ideas?

What app are you doing this in? You must set the font selector of the app to Webdings for the place where you are trying to input the character. Sometimes this does not work well, because webdings are in the Unicode private use area, and some apps may not recognize that (or apps like Appleworks and Word X do not do Unicode at all).

  • Cannot use Type Tool/Font

I'm having this issue in Photoshop CS3 as well but I'll deal with that later.
I cannot use the Text Tool (The T that lets you write) in my copy of Adobe Illustrator CS5.1.
I made due by using my campus computers to put the font I need into the document, butwhen I opened that same document in my version, the text is just. Not there. At all.
    Any ideas?

    Myraid Pro.
When I have the document open in another person's copy of Illustrator cs5.1, the text works fine but it just doesn't show up in my copy and any text boxes already made and filled out show blank boxes as well but the text box layer has what I had written in it as the name of the layer.
Like my font doesn't exist. But the name is right there in the library.
