Cannot validate an email address

I have a Bold 9700 and a Curve 8320.
The Bold has, for want of a technical term, borked. It was in an endless reboot loop and I couldn't do anything to get it out of it.
Anyway, I've put the sim card into an old, unlocked but still fully working Curve.
It connects to the network fine - ie I can get SMSs and access the web via the browser.
But I can't setup my email.
You go to the add email page.
It says: 'A new Blackberry device has been detected. You must move your email accounts to receive email on this device. To move an email account, you will need to type the email account password. At least one email account must be moved to set up email on this device.'
<It then list my two email addresses>
'Email delivery to your old device has been stopped'
At this point you can't add a new email address (I can't find any way to add a new email address)
If you click cancel, it totally cancels.
So, you can only click 'Move email account'
You do that, it lists the current email address with a space to enter the password, then click 'validate'
So I've done that - the password IS correct.
But every time, it just says: 'An error occurred while accessing your account. Please click below to try again. Link: Access Another Email Account'
If you click that link it takes you back to the start and you go around in the same circle.
So I'm left not being able to validate any of my email addresses - or being able to add a new one.

Hi and welcome
Having added to this thread, is it safe to assume you have tried any of the suggested already.
Have you tried pulling the battery with the power on, leaving the battery out for a couple of minutes. Then do the same thing but take the SIM out, replace the battery. Then repeat but replace the SIm.
Let us know the outcome, hopefully this will avoid a complete wipe and reinstallation of the OS.

    If you know the email address and you can;t validate it, there's a chance you can change the information and retry the validate process. The attached link shows all the needed steps.
    As far as forgetting the password and the recovery question as well, 3 strikes your out!
    It pains me to have to suggest this but you'll have to call your wireless service provider.

    If you mean your rescue email address, it's in the Passwords and Security section, after you answer the two security questions.

    Honest, you couldn't make it up.
    I have had BT Smart Talk on one mobile since it came out, it has its uses so I thought I'll put it on my second phone as well.
    Got through the " Setting up my account "... eventually.
    Even received the pin number via my landline, moments later....... looking good.
    Seconds later an email to say  " Hello, blah, blah, blah "............. with some nice blue lettering to say  " Activate your account now."
    One last step to go, I click on it and get.......................... " We are unable to validate your email address "
    So BT send me an email, to one of my BT email addresses that I have had for over 10 years, yet they are unable to verify one of their addresses, that seconds before they used to send me a message. 
    It only takes one extra straw so.............................
    Another long standing BT customer (40 years ) who will now be re-organising all his BT emails and porting my contacts over to my Googlemail account, then a perusal of other ISP's who have some very atractive offers on, short term and long term, then I'll be jumping ship, I'm out of contract so the time and place is entirely up to me.
    It won't have been a financial decision, because BT are more expensive, I don't mind paying that bit extra as long as I get good service, now I'm not.
    Both my sons left BT a year or two ago, after being customers in their own right, after leaving home ( about 15 years ) because of carp service, they have never looked back, faster speeds, cheaper and, to date, excellent customer service.
    Just hang on I'll give it another click................ no I won't ............ it's logged me out in the time it's taken me to type this.
    As I said you couldn't make it up.

    You won't be able to change your rescue email address until you can answer your questions, you will have to contact Support in the country where you and your iTunes account to get the questions reset.

    A lot of websites I go to and click on Contact us or email us nothing happens and therefore I cannot find the email address ,
    I have found a Way around that is plug in my Mouse and right click properties and sometimes I get the email address ,
    However this is annoying as happens alot .. Yes pop up window is turned off so if pop up should work
    any help fixing would be great ..

    The email address should appear in the Status bar at the bottom of the Safari window when you mouse over the address. If there is no Status bar there, press cmd+/ to turn it on.
    Normally when you click on an address it should launch your local email application. Open Mail (Applications > Mail) and check in Mail preferences > General to see what application is currently configured to handle emails (don't ask me why this setting is here... only Apple can answer that one!).
    If it is set to Mail aready, try changing it to something else (any program, it does not matter which one) and then quit both Mail and Safari. Restart Mail, and once again change the default application to be Mail and quit Mail once more. Lastly, restart Safari and retry a site with an email link.

    So, iTunes is asking me to enter a "Rescue Email Address", which will be used to send me instructions should security issues arise.  Fine.  I enter my email address, and it gives me the error saying my rescure email address cannot be my email address.
    Uh... what?!
    How the heck am I supposed to use the recovery email feature if my recovery email address cannot be my email address?  I'm supposed to have password recovery info sent to someone else and have them forward it to me?!
    Oh, and it won't let me actually buy anything or even download anything for free from iTunes until I set this up.  Great.  I used to love using the iTunes Store, but alas, I'm locked out now, until I figure how to enter my email address without entering my email address.  I'll do that once I have both tea and no tea...

    Ah, good, I found a work-around.  Since I use a Gmail address, and Gmail treats "thisthat" and "this.that" as the same email address, I was able to fool iTunes into thinking my email address was not my email address, and this allowed it to accept it as my email address.
    This is the most spectacularly stupid requirement for a rescue email address I've ever heard of, but at least I can use iTunes again...

    Hi Ana-Maria,
    You can do this on two places. You can do it on the client (using javascript) or you can do this on the database (using a trigger or a check constraint). The best way is to do both.
    Use something like this for the javascript bit:

    I get a choice between "cancel" or "reset to default"
    If I click on "reset to default" the next message is this:

    Help!  I've had a .mac address for years and now, in the switch to icloud, it seems to be trying to set up an account for me.
    I have no idea what to do and need to access email for work.

    I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with iCloud. If you are having issues verifying your email for iCloud, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful:
    I can't sign in to iCloud on my Mac due to an alert stating that my email address has not been verified.
    If you can't sign in due to the alert “Account not verified - Check your email for instructions for verifying your account”:
    Close and reopen iCloud preferences before attempting to sign in to iCloud again.
    If that does not resolve the issue, check your email folder and Junk folder for a verification email sent from Apple.
    If there is no verification email in your email folder or Junk folder, click the Resend Verification Email button in iCloud preferences.

    recently have been unable to autocomplete email address on ipad 2 when sending emails. anyway to correct this?

    I read the above advice and followed it to allow changes, but still cannot find how to add any additional email accounts. Doesn't even appear to be an option! Every time I select 'Mail' in settings, it all just reverts to the front screen and exits settings completely. Inherited this iPad and have just updated it to ios5...will this have affected anything?
