Cannot view avi files

I am trying to view .AVI files in Quicktime, the screen opens blank and the timer moves forward but no picture appears. Help would be appreciated.
Thankyou

QT support .mov better, but not .avi. Besides to use another player, you can try to do a simple conversion with the video converter. It's kind of the tool to convert .avi to .mov for QuickTime, for the occasion that you need QT to edit your videos.

    Have Adobe Reader installed? If so, disable the AdobePDFViewer.plugin resident in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins., restart, and try again. For font-associated issues, peruse Font Management in OS X

    When you say that you have the same problem, do you mean that you are:
    1. Not able to download Adobe Reader;
    2. cannot view a PDF file;
    3. or what?
    Please be a little more descriptive of your particular problem or, better yet, start your own thread and clearly indicate which problem(s) you're having and what you have done, thus far, to correct the problem(s).

    Sounds like something has been added into the Reader folder. I would recommend uninstalling, running http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, removing any left over parts of the Reader folder (this might have been the problem), reboot, and reinstall. Hopefully that solves the problem. For future question about Reader, you should consider asking in the Reader forum, this is not it.

  • Is it possible to view AVI files in iTunes?

    is it possible to view AVI files in iTunes?  If yes, what codecs are required ?

    No, it is not possible, but you can always download any video converter. Or open your AVI file with QuickTime.

  • I cannot view pdf files on Safari, instead they download and open in viewer. How do I change this?

    Does anyone have a solution for this???
    "I cannot view pdf files on Safari, instead they download and open in viewer. How do I change this?"

    Back up all data. Please read this whole message before doing anything, so you'll know what to expect.
    Open Safari's preferences dialog and make notes of everything you would need to recreate the basic settings, such as your home page. That includes the settings of Safari extensions, if any are installed.
    Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Quit Safari. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the box that opens and press return. A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open.
    Launch Safari. Its settings will have reverted to what they were they first time you launched it. Your bookmarks, history, and AutoFill data will be preserved.
    Test. If Safari now works as expected, recreate its settings and delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the newer one created in its place. Post your results.

  • Cannot view jpg files in full page mode. Contents of jpg files are enlarged so that it requires 4 pages to print one page.

    When people send me jpg files that contain a page of information, I cannot view the file in full page mode. I can only view 1 quadrant of the page at a time. If I print the jpg file, it uses 4 pieces of paper (1 quadrant per page). Others who receive this file can view it fine.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == It has always worked this way.

    There is an option for the Initial View that is "Magnification:" "Fit Page".  And this works for the initial page when the PDF is opened and it does not matter what the page size it, Acrobat/Reader will automatically fill the screen with the page. If you want the zoom type to change with each page then you need  add a page open script to each page to set the pages zoom type to "zoomtype.fitP"
    this.zoomType = zoomtype.fitP;

    Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.
    When I try to open the file I get the following error message:
    "cannot open that file

    I really need urgent help with this so if you know a soloution, please post it!

    I don't do mjpeg so you will have to search the forum for advice
    But... having a playback codec installed does not ALWAYS mean the codec will work for Premiere editing
    After you search the forum and find the (I think free) codec vendors, you will need to install fresh so Premiere will "see" the codec for editing
    Or, Google
    convert mjpeg avi
    To convert to DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound so the files will "natively" edit in Premiere
    My GUESS (you didn't say) is the d90 is a STILL camera that has a video function, not a true camcorder
    If you plan to do much video work, you need a tape-based DV camcorder so you use Firewire to do a digital transfer as a "real" AVI that Premiere may edit without conversion or extra software
    For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

  • Can't view AVI files on Quick Time.

  • Leopard cannot play .avi files (MJPG format)

    After installing Leopard, I cannot play .avi files (MJPG format) using Quicktime. These files work without a hitch on my other Mac that has Tiger. I've tried Perian.org, DIVX, VLN player, Windows media player, WMV player etc. Something went awry after installing Leopard.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Re-install the Flip4Mac QuickTime Component then open System Preferences/Flip4Mac, click the Player Tab and check the "Open AVI files" box. Restart your browser and try again.

  • Viewing .AVI files iin iTunes

    Hi, is there any way of viewing .AVI files in iTunes, and if so is it possible to make them viewable on a Video iPod?
    Thanks.

    I don't believe AVI is one of the supported formats. You are probably better off converting it to an MPEG format.

  • Cannot edit AVI files

    Hello,
    We´ve ran into problem with Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows 7 Ultimate machine. The problem is, the PPCS4 does not let us edit the AVI files (doesn´t matter what´s inside, DivX, XviD, h264, raw). It recognizes the lenght, but it´s like it stretches out the first 3 or 5 seconds to the (lets say) 3 minutes movie (or whatever the lenght of the footage is), so the audio is skipping, and so is the video.
    We´ve already tried reinstalling all the necessary codecs (including the CoreAVC, DivX Pro, CineForm codecs and so on), we even disabled the built-in system codecs (the ones that are preinstalled in the Windows operating system), but no luck. We can work with other files just fine, including FLV, WMVs and other formats. Only the AVI is problematic, regardless the internal codec. This does not happen in After Effects, and even works in Photoshop. Have anyone experienced this kind of problem?
    Thank you.

    John T Smith wrote:
    >just because they are using AVI files
    AVI really means nothing at all... I could save a MS Word document as MYDOC.AVI and that does not mean that it would edit in Premiere
    The CODEC inside the AVI wrapper is the key... some codecs are meant only to be viewed, others to be edited... view codecs do not edit well, if at all, in Premiere
    If someone brings you a view file, no matter the last 3 letters after the . (that's a dot) then you convert it to an edit file or use a different tool
    I know that.
    JSS1138 wrote:
    we cannot send clients away just because they are using AVI files
    I have to question the legality of editing media using those codecs.  No camera uses them.  The overwhelming frequencey of their use is for video that would be illegal for you to edit.
    As it´s been said before, AVI is just a container, you can put anything into it, not specifically recorders use these, but it´s a common filetype, so people use it. I can´t change what clients give me. If someone comes with .m2ts file, should I call police just because this is a filetype used on Blu-Ray discs?
    So the problem lies in Windows 7 itself, not in Premiere (well, partially), from what I have found, Windows 7 uses the new MF (Media Foundation) and not DirectShow (as in previous versions). Adobe is mostly using DS, and when it comes to that stretching, these are actually segments of the file splitted by Microsoft AVI splitter MF method. It all goes fine IF I put there a file which is using DS, when it comes to MF, this thing happens.
    I´m a little sceptic about Adobe releasing an update .
