Cannot view movies in iphoto gallery

Hi,
Using iLife '08, i have published some movies and pictures on my web gallery. All my friends and family can view the movies with no problems on their computers. If i try to view my gallery via Safari or another web browser i get a message that says:
Quicktime is unable to play this movie. Please try again.
When i try with Firefox, i get the audio, but no picture. I have deleted my gallery and started again (giving it plenty of time to upload), but no avail.
Would anyone know if this is an issue with iPhoto/Safari or Quicktime and how can i fix it?
I'm on a new iMac (intel) with op sys 10.4.10.
Many thanks!

cos
All my friends and family can view the movies with no problems on their computers.
This suggests that the movies themselves are fine.
Quicktime is unable to play this movie. Please try again.
When i try with Firefox, i get the audio, but no picture.
This sounds very much like a your Mac is missing the codec to play the movies properly. Try install Perian

  • Cannot view pictures in iPhoto

    I have iPhoto 7.1.3 and OS 10.4.11
I have read all the posts regarding the changes with iPhoto and the inability to view the individual files in the latest version.
However, in iPhoto when I try to view a photo, I get the ! icon. As a result, I cannot view the picture, drag it to the desktop or edit it. I am able to view the details of the picture, including file name and size. So I believe the picture exists, but I don't know why I cannot see it.
I tried rebuilding iPhoto during application launch by holding the control-option keys. Nothing has changed.
Someone please help as I need to access my pictures for project.
    Thanks

As you've tried rebuilding the library then I would move on to recovery mode. Your db has been corrupted:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Help!!! Cannot view pics in iPhoto 6

Just installed iLife 06...I though install went fine and it did except for iPhoto 6. My albums, keyword, pic descriptions everything is viewable, even a pictures, file size dimensions, etc...everything except the picture. The number of pictures in the entire Library (over 7,000) shows up...I cannot view the actual pics....I get a grey area with a dotted line where the pic should be, but no pic.
In looking in my Library I can view the picture in a view finder, but it will not show up in iPhoto...What should I do, should I reinstall iLife 06???
    Thanks a million...

  • I cannot view images in iphoto - only black screen

I had problems being unable to boot my iMac this week and ended up having to take it to the Apple store where they re-installed the operating system and all seemed fine. Now however, although I can view thumbnails in iPhoto, when I click on them I just get a black screen.
I've checked the images do still exist in the file folders and I had a slideshow running as a screensaver - this still shows the images but I cannot access them through iPhoto.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • The big "Q" or a "?" cannot view movies

Have just upgraded to the iLife08 and I am happy (so far) except for not being able to view my own movies I host online.
with iWeb I have some movies. I published and its all good, except that I cannot view them with my mac. I boot up my Win laptop and I can see everything. I have tried to disable the flash settings in the system pref panel like I have read in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1065787&tstart=0
    but it does not help.
As well a friend on a mac tried to view my site and he cannot see the movies OR my hosted galleries. What do I have to do to get this to work? I know its not a iWeb problem since my PC will work with the site.
    Thanks.

here are some of the pages that wont load
    http://web.mac.com/bklord/TJL/OurAlbums/Pages/Theperformance.html
    http://web.mac.com/bklord/TJL/OurAlbums/Pages/Teagan_with_big_ball1.html
When I use Safari I cannot load the videos. even if I leave it load for a couple minutes. When I use Firefox it will load the files just fine. So its related to safari i guess. I will cross post this in the Safari section as well.
    Safari 3.0.3
    Quicktime 7.2
(when my friend tries to load the pages with Safari 2 he has problems as well, I dont know if this is a beta related problem.)
    Thanks

    yes
I have not done this, but I have shut the unit down (light off) then turned it back on (light on). This did not work.
that is just standby mode, not restart.

I have downloaded Silverlight and that helps for Firefox and Opera but it does no good for Safar 4 in Snow leopard.

there are a few ways you can force SSL.
I wonder if using the Server.app to do it directly would be the most robust?
Going to Server.app and selecting Websites ->"Server Website SSL" -> "Redirects Edit..."
Hit the "+" button and then select "When users visit: This website", "Redirect them to: Server Website (SSL)"
Alternatively you could create a different website (SSL) to redirect the defaults to, if you don't like the default name and would prefer something else.
Additionally, I have found that I get the "Calendar service is turned off" until after I use the website to log in as a networked user. The "profilemanager" however does redirect me to the login if I am not already logged in. Logged in or not, the "Change Password" link always comes up with a "Changing passwords is turned off" message unless one has the "Allow users to change password" checkbox checked in the "Server Website SSL". When it is checked off, this link works as expected, allowing you to log in to change your password.
Navigating around this "Server Website" is pretty lousey - you would thing that there would always be links available to the calendar, password reset, and profile manager parts in addition to the wikis, people, documents, and activities. Once you click on one of the last four, you lose any links to calendar, password or profile manager. Anyone have any edits to change the default website to include those links on every page? I would have thought they would live in the pull-down-menu at the top left, or a least a link to take you back to the top of the website.

  • Cannot View Movies

I am running the latest version of Quuicktime, 7.2.0 on a G3 running 10.4.9
I am unable to view movies but the audio component works,
    Any suggestions?

After buying my MacBook Pro I updated everything including QT. As a result QT 7.2 simply didn't play any of my divx avi files. Before adopting the rude way, I obviously tried to update/replace all of the components including: Perian, DivX, Flip4mac. No way. I then forced a downgrade to ver. 7.1.6 using Pacifist (a package manager) and as a result I put the hole system in danger. It was in a total state of malfunction. I had to restore the system with the cd. Fortunately it kept my home! But I now run ver 7.1.6 and I do NOT have any intention to update it. I use Pro so I don't have any necessity of full screen support or else. Maybe if Apple will release a stable version I will consider the update. But for now, "nowing it is not installing it".

  • Cannot view photos in iPhoto 09

I have iLife 09 and am new to the Mac world. I am wondering why iPhoto will not allow me to see pictures I was once able to. I used some of my photos in iMovie and iDVD, and they worked just fine. I went back in to view the pictures and edit them for something else and there was a huge exclamation mark instead of the picture. I can see the picture when I open the event but when I try and open the picture there is nothing there.
    Anyone heard of this before?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The exclamation mark occurs when iPhoto loses the link to the original file. As long as you're running a managed library, i.e. photos are copied into the library upon import, run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
    1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

  • Cannot view movie, screen goes black

Download movies from itunes (usually with difficulty...doesn't seem to want to transfer on 1st or more tries).  Once I get the movie, the screen goes black part way through viewing.  At this point, video folder also shows a black screen.  Took ipad back to apple store, they were not sure what to do so gave me new ipad.  Same problems.  Is it my itunes account that is a problem?  Is it a bad ipad cable?  I can sync music and apps easily...am I doing something wrong?  (movies are HD-SD and no warning comes up that they cannot be viewed on ipad).

I read your other post as well that was directed to me ...
"Question to Demo....I have same problem and tried your suggestions. Instead of black screen when I open Video folder or by searching for movie name, I get small white text at top of black screen and searching circle in middle of screen...this disappears after approximately 5 seconds.  No movie."
I have no idea what the small white text might be, but in your post above you mention that moving the movies from the computer into the iPad has been difficult and/ or problematic, so I suspect that the problem with the movies has something to do with that scenario.
I don't believe that the problem lies within the cable if you can sync and transfer other content. You could try another cable if you have one and see if that helps.
Do you by any chance live in the U.S.? If you do, movies (most movies that is) can be downloaded again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID that you both them with. So my suggestion would be to delete the movie from the iPad and download it again - but download it directly on the device and not use iTunes at all.
If you are in the U.S. you can go to iTunes on the iPad and tap on the purchased tab. Then tap the "View" button in the upper left corner and bring up "Movies". If your purchased movie is in there, delete it from your iPad and download it again. You can delete the movie by going to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Videos and then swipe across the movie to bring up the delete button. Then go to iTunes and download it again.
You should not have to use another media player in order to play the movies from iTunes.

  • IPhone cannot view movies from dotMac site if password protected

I input a movie in a iWeb page, password protect the site, publish it and then try to view the movie with my iPhone. I can get into the page after entering my userid and password, but when I select the movie, I get an error message stating "Error playing movie". Called Apple Tech support they said it's my web service. When I told them the service was dotmac, the first tier tech said, "sorry sir, the personal support tech will not take your call."
Maybe if enough of you guys call they see this as a real problem so the software engineers can resolve it.

All you had to do was to disable directory browsing at the
    server for this
account. Then nobody can just "browse" the file content of
    any folder. Or,
just place a blank, default named file in the folder and
    again, when you try
to browse the folder, you just get a blank page instead. No
    need to
    password protect anything.

I have exported some files to .mov format on an external hard drive.
Recently I re-installed my system and found out that "some" .mov files cannot be viewed by QuickTime Player.
    There's voice but no pictures.
Only some .mov files cannot be viewed. some are able to be seen.
So what's the problem and how do I fix it?
    Thanks.

Sorry I can't help you. As I said it depends on the version you're using. Some versions say Movie Inspector some say Movie Info.

  • HT1229 I cannot view pictures in iPhoto that are in another user.

WE have loads of pictures on another user, but I can't view them on my profile? I'm sure this is a simple fix, just still getting used to my new Imac.

To view the other user's library setup fast user switching in the System/Accounts preference pane. Then log into the other user and open their library and leave it open.
Also setup Sharing in iPhoto's Sharing preference pane in both accounts
Return to your account and you'll be able to view the photos in the other account via iPhoto.
