Cannot view pdf files.

I cannot view PDF files.Every now & then will allow page to be read however as soon as I go to another on the same site the window comes up with nothing in it.Adobe 9.3 definitely installed.Up to last week there were no problems. Internet connection OK. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have Adobe Reader installed? If so, disable the AdobePDFViewer.plugin resident in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins., restart, and try again. For font-associated issues, peruse Font Management in OS X

When you say that you have the same problem, do you mean that you are:
    1. Not able to download Adobe Reader;
    2. cannot view a PDF file;
    3. or what?
Please be a little more descriptive of your particular problem or, better yet, start your own thread and clearly indicate which problem(s) you're having and what you have done, thus far, to correct the problem(s).

Sounds like something has been added into the Reader folder. I would recommend uninstalling, running http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, removing any left over parts of the Reader folder (this might have been the problem), reboot, and reinstall. Hopefully that solves the problem. For future question about Reader, you should consider asking in the Reader forum, this is not it.

  • I cannot view pdf files on Safari, instead they download and open in viewer. How do I change this?

Does anyone have a solution for this???
"I cannot view pdf files on Safari, instead they download and open in viewer. How do I change this?"

Back up all data. Please read this whole message before doing anything, so you'll know what to expect.
Open Safari's preferences dialog and make notes of everything you would need to recreate the basic settings, such as your home page. That includes the settings of Safari extensions, if any are installed.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the box that opens and press return. A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open.
Launch Safari. Its settings will have reverted to what they were they first time you launched it. Your bookmarks, history, and AutoFill data will be preserved.
Test. If Safari now works as expected, recreate its settings and delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the newer one created in its place. Post your results.

  • I cannot view pdf files with free download from Adobe. Simple

I cannot view pdf documents, since recent download of Adobe Reader. Click pdf doc, Adobe opens, but bleeps if I click anywhere on the screen, then closes.
Recently I tried to look at my Amex Statement online, but Adobe wouldn't show the file.
I downloaded the Statement, but every attempt to view, is futile!!!!!!
Today, I downloaded, Assistant and signed in. Also Adobe Air. But still the Statement cannot be viewed.
If this is a free download, why change the setup so the damn thing doesn't work, when downloaded. I don't want to view the "World", just 1 document. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. (Words of some intellect, I would say) (Please take note)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use the Adobe Cleaner to completely uninstall Reader. http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, download the full offline installer here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and run it to reinstall a good working copy of Reader.

  • Newb: cannot view PDF files in Web Browser

I have a new Windows 7 computer & have installed Acrobat Standard 9.3.2 and Reader 9.3.1.
Whenever I attempt to "download" (i.e. view) a PDF in IE browser (or Firefox 3.6), I get the following error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
The error remains the same regardless of whether Acrobat or Reader is running/not running prior to download attempt.  My work-around solution is to save the file to disk, & then open it.  This is a pain & should not be necessary.
Any advice that anyone can give me to correct this problem will be received with great thanks!

Thanks for your prompt & accurate response, John!
With hindsight, I realise that I downloaded Reader when another install program told me that I needed it.
It would have helped me if the Acrobat install program had warned me in big colored type, not to install Reader...
    I am happy now....

  • Cannot view PDF files in a Web Browser

When I click on a link in IE 7 it's supposed to open a PDF page but I keep getting error message:
"The adobe acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again"
However, I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro installed on my machine, so I think it should work. After all, it's the pro version. Do I need to download/install Adobe Reader 8 or 9?  If so, why, since I've already got Pro 9 installed.
What can I do to get passed this?  This task is part of an online course I'm taking per work requirements.
    thx,
    John

Under help there is an option for repairing an installation. You should give that a try.

  • Cannot view PDF files within Safari 6.0.1

I have lost the ability to view PDF files within the safari web browser.  When I press on a link to a PDF file a blank/black screen will appear.  If I right click on the page I have the ability to Save the PDF file and then I can open it in preview.
    I also have AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin installed in ~Library/Internet Plug ins/ ... folder.
I have tried deleting these files and restarting Safari but nothing seems to be working. I have tried installing the PDF Browser plugin form Schubert to no avail
Does anyone have any suggestions on how can I get the ability to view PDF files in Safari using Moutain Lios OSX?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Cannot view PDF Files on my Browser

I reinstalled Adobe Reader about a dozen times and not once was there an "End User License Agreement" box to accept. Then I reopened it from my "Finder" tab and selected the "Accept" box of the agreement, but every time I open the browser page to view a PDF file, a box appears stating that I must open my Adobe Reader and accept the End User License AGreement, then close browser and reopen, which I did and the box still appears! Help me! I have the most updated version on my Macbook!!!

    Go to Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins.
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files.
Go to Mac HD/Appications and trash the Adobe Reader app.
Go to [user]/Library/Preferences and trash the com.Adobe.Reader.plist  (to access your [user] Library, hold the "Option" key when you click "Go" from the Finder menu)
    Empty the trash.
Download and reinstall Reader from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Once it's installed, launch it from the Applications folder and accept the agreement.
If Safari still gives you an alert try resetting it (Safari>Reset Safari from the menu bar)

  • I cannot view PDF file (though have Adobe Reader 9 on my computer)

Why do I get the message "the application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling application may fix this problem" whenever I try to open a PDF file (both from Email and from Harddrive). I have Adobe Reader 9.  Does anyone have any clues?  Thanks.

Uninstall, use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup tool to remove anything left in the Registry, then re-install.

Whenever  go to a website and try to open a pdf file in safari, I just get a grey screen.  No buttons, no text, nothing.  Totally non functioning.  What's going on??

Move the Adobe PDF Browser  (or just PDF Browser) plug-in to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Cannot view pdf files on some site but Adobe plug-in test sites work and it is uo to date. What is wrong? Using FF5 under XP

A new Firefox window is opened when I click on pdf file but it is blank with no menu or toolbars. Have enabled plug-in and it seems ok.

I do not recall anything specific about other extensions preventing pdf use, so you will have to try them all. But first of all check again, just incase you merely needed to clear the cache and it is working again !
The quickest method is to repeatedly slice into 1/2s until you find the guilty add-on
Disable 1/2 of your add-ons and see if it works, if not working you know it is one of those you did not disable, disable 1/2 of them. (So you now have 3/4 disabled )
It is also probably a good idea to at the same time check add-ons and plugins are up-to date.
    * Use Firefox button -> Add-ons |check plugins are up to date| <br/> or alternatively the link https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
