Cannot view pdfs in Firefox. - Browser doesn't recognize them as pdfs

I cannot view pdfs in Firefox. I checked the Applications section of FIrefox preferences and instead of saying "Adobe Acrobat PDF document"- it says "Adobe Acrobat FDF document. I am guessing that the browser does not recognize pdfs because the content type is incorrect.
I am using a Mac running OSX 10.8.2 and Firefox 17.0, however I have had this problem for several months and several earlier versions of Firefox as well. Please fix this issue. According to the help center forums, I am not alone with this issue.

Thank you for your help. What I ended up having to do was to change the Action next to Adobe Acrobat FDF document to "Use Preview". Then again under the Preview.app Document under Content Type, I had to change that to Use Preview as well. It is now working. However, Firefox (Mozilla) needs to change the word FDF to PDF in their preferences file.

  • Does Firefox 23.0.1 support frames? p This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them. /p

Our webpage used to display perfectly in Firefox now it doesn't. When I view page source the following appears among the HTML: <pre><nowiki><p>This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them.</p> </nowiki></pre>
Our webpage displays perfectly in IE 8.0
''Moderator added tags to show the HTML formatting tags and text.''

You only get the "This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them." text if either frames are disabled or you use a browser that doesn't support frames (the text is in a &lt;noframes&gt; &lt;/noframes&gt; block). Firefox would display this text under normal conditions.
Note that the Menu object is IE only and doesn't work in Firefox.<br />
    See the Browser Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+J) for errors.<br />
The page source also shows red code for the map tag (start tag "map" seen in "table").<br />

  • I cannot view my site in browser or publish my site after 2014.3 update

    Hi,
I updated to 2014.3 and cannot view my site in browser or publish. I see that alot of other people are having issues. Can you please assist. This is very frustrating.
    I am using OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
    Thank you
    Brett

    Hi Sanjit,
I cannot even publish the site. Muse crashes when I try to view site in browser and it crashes when I try to publish the site. It is not the browsers - yes I have tried. It has only happened since I updated to 2014.3 - just like everyone else having problems. This is a problem with the update. I can make a new site in the new release and it works - however all existing sites built before 2014.3 release is no good. This a big problem that needs sorting out. I should not have to rebuild everything again. I have sent my muse file via dropbox, as I have seen other people having trouble being asked to send the file through and it will be looked at. The url is http://australiasnaturecoast.businesscatalyst.com/ . This is not the correct version as I made a new site in the new muse update. I need my original version to work. I have tried uninstall and reinstall of Muse and this has not helped.
    Thanks

  • Viewing a pdf in Firefox browser has white lines. How can I fix the problem?

Viewing a pdf document in the FireFox browser (other browsers the document is fine) shows white lines though the pictures. I have tried different ways to save the document (printing or save as) as a pdf and I either get white lines or missing content while viewing on Firefox.

Which pdf viewer are you using?
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac).
#In the Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac) window, select the ''Applications'' panel.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right hand side you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

  • PDF file doesn't view properly in firefox & favicon doesn't show in Safari

I've got three issues I could use some advice with.
    1. I used some iFrame code generously posted by Oldtoad that allows a pdf file in an IFrame. It works beautifully in Safari. here's an example: http://web.mac.com/phelpssculpture/Site/resumeone_page_DavidPhelps.html
but in Firefox it only opens as a dialog box asking what I want to do with the file (download, etc)
Is there any way to make this view properly in Firefox?
    2. I've gone through the process to have a favicon in the address box (ico file uploaded with iTweak) and this views great with Firefox, but nothing in Safari (not sure about others) I've deleted the WebpageIcons.db file repeatedly, emptied cache, deleted all my bookmarks for the site, etc.
Anyone know how to make this work in Safari?
    3. I recently updated my site (from iWeb 06) using iWeb 08 and published. A lot of search links got broken. I created a new sitemap (verified by google) and now, no matter what page a search refers to, when you click on it, only my home page opens. Did I do something wrong? It used to be that if a search pointed to a certain page, clicking that result took you directly to that page.
Any suggestions for these problems would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you, David

    Old Toad:
I finally got it! the favicon works now at: http://web.me.com/phelpssculpture
Your Instructions at:http://toadstutorials.info/ #22 did the trick.
One problem I had with TextWrangle was I was doing a search and replace for <head><meta and it wasn't working. What I figured out was that there was other code on the line after <head><meta which was preventing the new code from working. I did a minor adjustment on each page in iWeb to force it to republish each page. That made the <head><meta line consistent on each page, then I selected the entire line and replaced it as per your instructions. It worked great. My experience was that iTweak did not process the code properly and was very slow, but this process was great.
Thank you for all your help. Sincerely, David

The page is working perfectly in IE or Opera...but for mie this is a mistake...i'm tested in a lot of pc's, with different versions of firefox, ie, and opera browsers but  with the exception of firefox, working fine.
this is an incompatibility problem between flash & firefox?
or a problem with the external preloading files? (the first index page is a swf too, but called by an html file...)
i really don't know what's the problem, but this is so interresant, i think not only for me...
i'm waiting your help. thank you and best regards

    Hello ZigZag,
I did have disable the blocking content. Still it doesn't work. This is a problem that I face right now.
I have submitted this problem to Mozilla Firefox team.
I did not have any issues with Windows 8.1 with the same browser version Firefox 35.
It having issues on Windows 10 build 9926.
So it is either Windows 10 is having issues or Firefox or Adobe itself.
    Either one of it.
I submitted the issues to both Firefox and Adobe for this matter. Right until now I have no reply from them.
For your info, this laptop cannot download any Windows Build updates...
I have to download the new build ISO manually. I wonder why I cannot get the new release of prebuild updates from Microsoft. Makes me wonder all the time. Why I cannot do any updates!
Formatted the hard disk and do a clean install of Windows 10 beta build 9926.

Do you mean that there is a problem with closing Firefox?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Uploading a PDF via Firefox, told the file is not a PDF

I know the way to fix this problem is by deleting or renaming mimetypes.rdf in my firefox profile. The only problem is that on several computers, the problem is repeatable. I have one user that has to delete or rename the mimetype.rdf file in her profile every day.
Yesterday I created a brand new firefox profile for the user and only imported her bookmarks. Nothing else. Today she was unable to upload a pdf to a website, she was told her file "wasn't a pdf." I deleted her mimetypes.rdf and we were able to upload the pdf.
Any idea what could cause this to repeat on the same pc even with a new firefox profile?
User has a Windows 7 64bit pc using Firefox 29.0.1. All Windows updates are current. Adobe Reader 11.

I am noticing that the "bad" file has a lot more entries than the good file for pdf. I can't get them side by side.

  • I am using Firefox 7.When I tried to open a player the install instructions from the website says, download the widevine plugin from the automatic download pop-up,but my Firefox browser doesn't show me the automatic download pop up to download the plugin.

The automatic download pop up for downloading the plugin was not showing in my firefox 7 browser.

Hi and thanks to not leaving the firefox user alone.
Cor-el your answer is right as the madperson is and I already knew all these
answer and I said that before I don’t use any antivirus and I always turn off my firewall from the moment I installed my Windows.
I even turn off any automatic update for any of my software and I never let any unknown plugins or any thing like that be install without informing me. And if you know some things like Offline Storage and cookies must be to much more than usual and you have to clear them and delete them and I know so much more
And if you want to know it fixed now. But I don’t know how?
For understanding my problem read and research about Ixplorer.exe virus it is the same problem about the speed but the different is it doesn’t show any process in task manager like Ixplorer.exe virus
Bt I have done some things but still I don’t know that’s why it is fixed or not
First: I searched my system and removed any files have been crated on my system from two days ago since the problem happened.
And then I used to go about the article in this page and did like this:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080910101846AAazxN5
but still I don’t know any thing about the problem.
I can do so many things to fix but I am just curios if that is a virus why it just cut the speed when I am using the browser.
Please if any one found the reason send me your information I like to know it will improve my knowledge however my problem is solved fro now.

  • Cannot view new ICal in browser

SInce updating to the new ICal, it only gives one an option to SUCSCRIBE to my public calendars, not to VIEW with a URL in a browser.
    Help?

In other words, when one makes a calendar public, it sends an email that only says "Click here to subscribe to this calendar". The old ICal would send an email that said "To View this calendar, click here", "To subscribe to this calendar, click here" and "To learn more about ICal click here"

  • Cannot view RT system in browser

Related to this RT problem. I cannot get my RT system to work. Everything is identical to a known-good working system I finished a month ago. Same hardware, SW (2011) (2011RT) etc. Identical hardware in identical slots in the chassis. I can see the hardware in NI MAX. I cannot access the RT system with the browser. I cannot create NI-DAQmx tasks, channels or scales even though NI-DAQmx software is installed on the RT system. This isn't fun anymore, guys.  Thanks in advance.

Might have made sense to keep this in the same thread.
Starting with the obvious: if the systems are actually identical, you didn't assign them both the same IP address and them put them on the same network, right?  That will cause problems.  Or, alternatively, check that you didn't assign one of them an IP address that's in use elsewhere on your network.
Have you created an image of the working system and then loaded that onto the non-working one?  My apologies if you're already aware of all this.  In MAX, under the Tools menu there's an option to Create Desktop PC Utility USB Drive, which will format a USB drive and put some RT tools onto it.  You can boot an RT system using that drive.  One of the tools that it contains lets you make an image of an existing system, which you can then instal on the non-working system using that same USB drive.  (Of course, related to the above comment, this will give them both the same IP address, so make sure you only have one on your network when you reboot; you should then be able to use MAX to assign it a different address.)
Are you using the same development system to connect to both of the RT systems?

  • Fresh Java install; browser doesn't recognize jnlp MIME type...

    Hi Folks,
I was working with a client today to install a JWS app on a number of workstations. First one went fine. Just to be sure they had everything right, switched to another Windows PC. Browser displayed the jnlp file as XML. OK, I figured, must be missing the JRE. So, okay, we install the lastest 1.5 from www.java.com. Well, the browser still doesn't pick up on the MIME type setting and launch JWS--just displays the XML.
And yes, the server is sending the right MIME information because it works on dozens of other PC's at dozens of other sites as well as on the first PC we tried at that location. So then I figure, well, we'll just tell Mozilla that it needs to associate the right application with the MIME type/extension in question--there's no where to add a new association (at least not that I can find).
    Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
    John

Sorry for the inaccuracy there. We actually tried both Firefox and IE--same result on both of them.
(The 1.5 version of JWS doesn't allow you to put in the URL there--a disappointing circumstance. The whole thing was clearly more complicated than it seemed to me at first--there were already 3 other JREs installed.)
