Cannot view quicktime media in Internet Explorer on Windows 7 without admin rights

I have several workstations that are all running Windows 7 64bit with IE 9, fully patched, and Quicktime 7.76.80.95.  I cannot get streamed quicktime media to open in the quicktime plugin unless I right-click and start IE as admin.
I have googled this issue and found references to mentions of this issue, but nothing that seems to resolve it.  Instead of playing the media, it shows the question mark over the quicktime logo.  If IE is started as admin, it works.  I tried the script mentioned in this posting Quicktime problem and it does not fix the issue in this case.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi dwaynelewis, IE 9 is over 3 years old so it appears the computer is not, so called, fully patched? Windows 7 updates from Microsoft will install IE 11.
This seems to be a permissions issue. What user accounts have administrator permissions with full control? For Internet Explorer and QuickTime? The one that is initially being used to log on with, appears to not.

I run 64bit windows 7 and have downloaded the latest quicktime from apple.com. I have an HP Pavilion dv2522tx notebook. What is the problem?
    THanks!

Uninstalling/reinstalling QuickTime did not fix the problem. Still get a script error and no QuickTime ActiveX plugin installed when accessing a web page with the embedded player on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with Internet Explorer 8 (64-bit).
I did more experiments and found the following: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit comes with two versions of Internet Explorer 8, one is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit. The 32-bit version will install the QuickTime ActiveX plugin and load a video; however, the Controller bar at the bottom of the player is just pure black--you can't see the controls. If you click on the right place, it will play the video. This behavior is the same as for Firefox 32-bit, Chrome 32-bit and Safari 32-bit when running on Window 7 Pro 64-bit: they all exhibit the same problem with their respective QuickTime plugins.
So, there appears to be two issues: 1) The QuickTime plugins run impaired in 32-bit browsers running on Window 7 (64-bit); and, 2) The QuickTime ActiveX plugin is incompatible with, and will not install in, the 64-bit Internet Explorer 8 browser running on Windows 7 (64-bit).
If anyone at Apple is paying attention--Please fix this and issue an update. Thank you.

  • Cannot view quicktime window normal size and still see controls!

    Help!
I cannot view quicktime window normal size and still see control butttons (pause, play etc.)
I search this forum and found another previous similar question, but the answer. (To use control+0, which would make it half-size.), is not what I need.
What I need is to have a nice fuller size view, (not the narrow little half-size), but any way i find of doing that hides the controls below the bottom of my screen!
I cannot resize it from any side, except the bottom r. corner, which is hidden with these desireable fuller options.

Update: this was my mistake - I had neglected to configure all the view containers in the WebDynproCO window, which was generated by adding the GP interface to the component.  All is well.

As we have reviewed in other threads on the same topic. Internet Explorer for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 make use of separate management and content processes which on the desktop in a 64 bit environment are 64 bit and 32 bit respectively.
This is explained here on the IEInternals blog.
In most scenarios, the multiple processes are entirely transparent to the browsing experience. 32 bit addons continue to load and interact as expected with the content processes in which they are run and web scripts which detect browser architecture continue
to function, detecting a 32 bit browser.
In the Modern UI experience, the scenario is even more transparent as support for addons such as Flash and JavaScript are integrated into the 64 bit processes and updated through standard Windows Updates.

  • Not running internet explorer in windows 8

Help! Can't get flash player to run on IE 11 and get the message "not running Internet Explorer in Windows 8"

This is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Can't run an applet with Internet Explorer for Windows

I'm not sure this is the right news group, if not please direct me to the correct one.
I have an applet at http://209.55.115.36/webfit/Instructions/instructio_list.php?section_id=1&instructionsPage=2 It works in various browser except internet explorer for Windows. I've tried it with IE on windows XP, 98 and ME. Here is what I do.
    1) I uninstall any copies of the Java Plugin.
    2) I install a new copy of the Java Plugin
    3) I test that I can see the Java Coffee cup in IE
I try loading in my applet and I get a big grey spot.
The applet works with all Mac Browsers, Netscape and Opera, but not IE. I don't get any error messages, just nouthing.
Any pointers or thoughts would be helpful. I'm under a time crunch because I wanted to show it off at a trade show this weekend.

HEY! I saw what you're talking about! I was working on my own stuff, and my applet said it loaded and init'd, but was still blank. The only difference was I had upgraded to the Plug-In 1.4.1 this morning. So I went back to version 1.4.0 and it worked perfectly again. Maybe that's what's happening to you. So ignore the link I just posted and go to this one:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html
That'll let you download version 1.4.0 instead, and I'll bet you that one works. Let me know. Good luck!

  • Viewing live streams in Internet Explorer

I'm using Quicktime Broadcaster to generate a live .sdp feed and play through Streaming Server. I've tried embedding HTML code on a web site to view the feed (using the QT plugin rather than the player) and I can view the feeds ok on a Mac in Safari but all I get in IE8 is the QT logo
    Any help?

    Hi...
I wanna know if you did it. I'm a studant and I have some interests to learn how can I show a streaming video through internet.
A couple weeks ago I did two applications make message exchanges by sockets.. I think is something like this. But I wanna know how to get de webcam image and transform it in a stream of bytes to send it to another application.. so the socket server must pass that bytes to the applet in Internet Explorer... I think so... xD
    C ya.

  • Quicktime Unrecognized in Internet Explorer 9 (64-bit)

Hello, I've been having issues watching the trailers on Apple -- http://www.apple.com/trailers -- in the official release of Internet Explorer 9. Whenever I browse to a Quicktime object on Apple's site (including ads for the new iPad, etc), I receive the "Get QuickTime - Download QuickTime to view this video. QuickTime is free for Mac + PC." box with the big QuickTime logo.
I have just performed a clean install of the most recent QuickTime release, 6.7.9 I believe. I'm also running the new Internet Explorer 9's 64-bit version.

guys so I was having the same issue and I tried from disabling add ons, uninstalling programs and cant even recall all the options. Lastly I thought let me install safari and that did the trick... I did read somewhere else that unistalling all your codecs and reinstalling can help but safari is just an easy fix.
if you don't believe I even did a youtube video to show it...
this is my video http://youtu.be/nMzDsV57OZ0 - had to do it cause it was really frustrating that no one even thought that just downloading safari would do the trick.

  • Disable Quicktime plugin for Internet Explorer

There has been discussion on a number of forums regarding the Quicktime plugin for Windows Internet Explorer and how it will hijack file associations, preventing them from being opened up with your default application. This only occurs when clicking on a link on a website. This even occurs when the file assocations in Windows are set to open a particular media file with your desired player. Disabling the Quicking plugin in the Internet Explorer settings may only makes things worse because instead of the file playing with the Quicktime plugin, Internet Explorer displays a red "X", and doesn't play the media. Uninstalling Quicktime is a solution, but if you, like me, own a Apple device and use iTunes, Quicktime must be installed. There are a number of postings on the web with potential solutions, but none of them worked for me.
After troubleshooting for some time, I have finally figured out how to disable the plugin once and for all. I have narrowed it down to the registry entry that apparently loads the plugin into Internet Explorer. By simply deleting this entry, the Quicktime plugin will no longer load with IE and media will be launched with your favorite player. You can easily revert back to the Quicktime plugin by restoring the registry entry from a backup. Below, I have provided the reg.exe command line commands to backup and delete the registry entry.
    1) Close out of Internet Explorer.
    2)Backup with this command:
    reg export "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69} " C:\qt_plugin1.reg
NOTE: This registry path is for Windows x64 (64-bit). I am not certain of the path for Windows x86 (32-bit), but I assume you may just need to remove Wow6432Node from the path. If it is not there, open regedit.exe and search for 4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69.
    3) Delete with this command:
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69} " /f
    4) Open Internet Explorer and test. When you click on a music or video link, your default media player should now launch.
I have tested this myself several times, including a reinstallation of Quicktime, and it worked. If it doesn't work for some reason, you can try performing the same steps with the following registry entries. Do one at a time and test so that you don't delete anything unnecessary.
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{CB927D12-4FF7-4A9E-A169-56E4B8A75598}
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B}
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Compo nents\3F9E7EA97A1AEE54490637032025DEF9
If you wish to restore the Quicktime plugin, simply double-click the registry file that you backed up in step 2. Click yes when it asks you to confirm. Now when you open Internet Explorer and click on a link, the Quicktime plugin will load and play the media.

I mentioned I have the Acrobat Pro 9 version.
    Also, Im using IE 8.
