Cannot view sent mail

Every time I send an email using MAIL 1.3, I am unable to view the mail I just sent in my SENT box.
I get the message:
The message from Billy Doherty <[email protected]> concerning “Re: Practice Website Ready For Review!” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
I have two accounts set up with MAIl and my vintage marketing account is the only one that I am unable to view the emails in the sent box.
Mail using POP
Thanks!
Billy

This error message indicates an "overstuffed" mailbox issue which means the account's Sent mailbox has some corruption.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Sent Messages.mbox.
Move the Sent Messages.mbox to the Desktop.
When re-launching Mail, a new Sent Messages.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when sending the next message with this account.
This will allow the Mail.app to function properly again and not risk losing any new sent messages with this account while working on the old Sent Messages.mbox moved to the Desktop and hopefully recover all existing sent messages.
Control-click on the old Sent Messages.mbox moved to the Desktop and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents.
List the package content file names and size of each here.
This information is required to determine the next step to take to recover all messages.

  • Unable to view sent mail content

Has anybody had the problem of not being able to view sent mail content in the sent mailbox? When a message is selected from list, the message "The message from XXXXXXX <[email protected]> concerning “title” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." when I try to view a sent message. This issue applies to all the sent messages in the sent mailbox, I can see a complete list of messages, just not the content?

If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, you probably have the problem described here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it may be too late to solve it as described in the article.
Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with apparently similar problems running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem there. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

  • Why are security headers not visible when viewing "sent" mail for mail sent with S/MIME certificates?

I am using an S/MIME certificate to sign my emails using Mail on Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  I have a trusted S/MIME certificate for each of my email accounts.  The certs and private keys are properly installed in the keychain.  I am able to successfully send signed (and optionality encrypted) email and the recipients are all all receiving the emails showing a trusted signed email without having to acknowledge or trust the signature.  So technically the certificates are working.  Obviously the encryption option is only offered when I also have the recipients certficate in my keychain.
What I am noticing is that when I look in my sent items - (regardless of which email I used as the "sender") - I don't see any indication in the mail headers that the mail was sent with a signed certificate - even though I know the recipient is seeing that the mail is signed with a cert.  I have no way of telling whether I sent the mail as "signed" or "unsiged".  The default is to use the certificate for all outbound emails - unless I specifically uncheck the secure signing option before sending.  In mail that I recieve - sent from others with certs or sent from one of my email accounts to the other - I see the the certificate indication in the email header.
On rare occasion - I do see the certificate when viewing sent mail - but only for  random sent mails - and so far I believe I have only seen the certificate show up in mail that is sent from my iCloud account.  I can send subsequent mail from iCloud - and still not see the certificate in the sent items.
Why am I not seeing the Security Header showing the certificate when viewing mail that I have sent in my sent items folder?  Is there some setting that I am not seeing that controls this - or is this a bug in Mac Mail?  Also why does the security header show up for just a handful of sent emails - when hundreds of signed emails have been successfully sent.
Any help would be appreciated.  The behavior is the same on my other Macs - at least the ones on which the certificates are also installed.
Also - I don't have my certs installed on my iPhone yet - so I can't tell on the iPhone if the certs are showing up in the sent folder - but I can see the certs on mail that I send to myself from the Mac but receive on the iPhone.
    ~Scott

I stopped using the S/MIME certs and stopped signing my emails.  Too many recipients were receiving them as "attachements" especially if the recipients email account was on an Exchange server.  My certs have since expired and I have not done anything to further analyze the situation.  My original post was over a year ago and I have long since been on Mavericks.
To: iddontknowwhoiamsowhat ... I am not totally following your response.  You say you are seeing the exact same issue - yet you are also saying you can look at the sent mails from os x and ios - does this mean that you see the security badges on the sent emails in both os x and ios?  I assume you are on Mavericks?

  • Viewing Sent mail has no content, attachments missing in Lion

Lion and Mail 5.0 . Some Windows computers are unable to view email body content. Also attachements don't appear eventhough they have uploaded and show the correct file size in the my sent mail folder.
Sometimes an attachment shows up as a thumbnail only with no attachement file.  PostBox works fine with these problem Windows computers.. body of text displays properly and attachments show up properly.

Have you set Edit/Attachments/Window friendly in Mail?  There have been some reports that it doesn't work, but it is working for me.

  • How to view sent mail on iPad mini?

I can find my sent mail on my iPad mini. Where is it?

Did you follow Chris's instructions? I think he nailed it.
In that pane where you see your email accounts - Tap on Comcast - Under the Accounts heading which is below the list of InBoxes. That will take you to another view where the pane should look like the screenshot.

  • Unable to view sent mail

When I try to view some (but not all) of my sent mail I get this message:
The message from (User) concerning (Subject) has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
The account in question IS online, and the message HAS been downloaded!
    Anybody got any ideas?

    Ed,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
If you are running 10.3.9, as your Profile reports, then your Sent mailbox is most likely Overstuffed -- see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121837
If you have upgraded to Tiger, but not updated your Profile, please inform us of that, as there will be another approach to solving the problem causing this message.
Ask any questions, or advice, needed. It may be critical to know how large the mbox file in the Package of the Sent Messages.mbox actually is, since some could be large enough to require a different methodology to resolve.

  • Can't view Sent mail contents anymore

I have been using Mail for about 1-1.2 years since getting this new computer, when all o fa sudden and for no apparent reason, Mail stopped allowing me to view my sent messages . Often times I will need to forward a sent message or resend a sent message, but can't now. When I click on a sent message it says, "The message from ...concerning..... has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." I have a POP account if this helps identify the problem. Any help is appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
If you are running 10.3.9, as the info beneath your post reports? If so, you have an Overstuffed Mailbox, meaning it has become large enough to be a problem for Mail to properly index. Read the User Tip linked below, if this is the case, but post back immediately if you have upgraded from 10.3.9:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121837
How large is this mailbox when you check it?

  • Viewing Sent Mail Causes Mail to Quit Unexpectedly

I am on an iMac, OS X 10.6.8 using Mail 4.5.  I have two different email accounts that I use.  No problems with sending messages, but I can not view the copy in the Sent folder for either mailbox.  When I try to open a Sent message, Mail crashes with a message 'Mail has quit unexpectedly' and no other information. I really need to access copies of my Sent messages!  This happens with both email accts.

I have this too and it's driving me crazy. Wish some expert could address it, 'cause I'm not finding solutions anywhere.
Bit since you posted about this a long time ago, did you figure a fix? Do you remember what it was?

  • Mail view sent mail after storing

In order not to keep every mail sent, I classify the ones I need in mailboxes. But unlike in the INBOX, they appear with MY name instead of the receiver's name, which is not convenient at all to look for at a later stage! I can't find anyway to change this in "mail" programm. Can you help me?

I think the problem may be associated with your pop account. I went to an iphone workshop at Apple yesterday and asked that question. My .mac email shows up on my iphone the way I would expect, my roadrunner does not. I was told it was because it was a pop account. I did learn something that will enable me to live with the situation (it doesn't filter my junk mail). When your email shows up in your inbox and you are viewing the list of emails, tap on edit. Then you can put a check mark by each email you wish to delete without viewing and tap delete. From there you can begin to read the remaining emails. Hope this helps

  • Cannot view yahoo mail contacts

I'm having trouble viewing my contacts information in yahoo mail.

If that doesn't help, and if you haven't already...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Cannot view SENT messages

Had this problem 2 yrs. ago and can't remenber what I did to resolve it. I can see who I sent e-mail messages to, but the message itself does appear any longer. Instead I get this:
"The message from Ben Shari <[email protected]> concerning “<Unknown subject>” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it".
Anyone know what it means? I have a feeling it has to do with removing messages from the server which I have done (I think) in Mail Preferences but the support folks at Cogeco, my service provider couldn't be of much use when it comes to MACs
    Any ideas please?

    You’re welcome.
is there a way to save all messages in another folder before doing a rebuild?
If you’re referring to the messages that don’t show up properly, no. You must fix the problem first, then move the messages wherever you want. Actually, it looks like you’ve kept storing sent messages in that mailbox without having completely fixed the problem first, which is a really bad idea, as it can only make it more difficult to recover the missing messages.
Assuming this is a POP account, proceed as follows:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/.
    3. Locate Sent Messages.mbox and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Although Sent Messages.mbox appears as a file, it’s actually a special kind of folder (a package) that contains several files. Ctrl-Click on Sent Messages.mbox and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu that appears. Report the size of the mbox file contained in the mailbox package. Depending on the size of this file, Mail may or may not be able to import it in step 6.
    5. Open Mail. A new empty Sent Messages.mbox will automatically be created within the account folder, and this will let you continue using Mail normally.
    6. Do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import the Sent Messages.mbox that’s on the Desktop. I’m not sure what the import options available in Mail 1.3 are, but you should choose Other / Standard mbox or something like that, so that Mail looks at the mbox file only (and Incomning_Mail, if present) and ignores the other files in the package.
If Mail doesn’t let you select Sent Messages.mbox in step 5 because it’s a package instead of a plain folder, rename Sent Messages.mbox to just Sent Messages (i.e. remove the .mbox suffix) so that it becomes a normal folder, and try again.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.
