Cannot view streaming media such as keynote addresses
I have followed the set up instructions as given on the Apple pages (QT Preferences, setting my transport to HTTP and port 80) but I still cannot view any of the streaming media from the Apple site, seminars etc. Are there further settings I can adjust on my machine or is this now an ISP issue??

Hi Jay -- Thanks for your help with my questions. Do you know
if there are any existing third party products that could be
purchased that piggy backs off of Flash Media Server 2? I read that
Stream
Pro by Digital Rapids offers workflow automation, integration,
and transcoding capabilities. Do you know much about this product
or any product similar? I hope my questions stay on topic, because
we would still like to use Flash Media Server 2 along with a client
of some kind.
Thank you again,

Hi!
I've been having a problem trying to view streaming media, but it only happens on some sites. It's similar to a problem I have on my Windows PC, that's related to Adobe Flash, but since I'm very new to using my iPad Mini, I don't even know if Apple devices have Flash...do they?
Anyway, when I go to a site that's plagued by this issue, I tap the 'Play' arrow on my screen & the circle spins like it's gonna play, but then the screen turns black & this error message appears:
"Error loading media. File Could not be played" followed by a triangle with an exclamation point !
I read several articles online & the solutions ran from updating firmware in their router, (mine is brand new...installed last Thursday), to disabling ad-block programs in their browsers...(I don't have any enabled), and the last one was making changes to the DNS...(I know it means 'domain name server', but I don't have the foggiest idea how to make changes to it!
Anyway, that's my problem. I hope that someone out there knows what I can do to fix it!
Thanks in advance for your help.
K-9PalI would assume an issue with the HTML5 media player.
If those aren't working on Windows then it is possible that the proper codecs aren't installed.
You can try to disable the HTML5 media player and make Firefox use the Flash plugin.
You can do this by setting these two prefs to false on the <b>about:config</b> page:
*media.windows-media-foundation.enabled
*media.directshow.enabled

Cannot view quicktime media in Internet Explorer on Windows 7 without admin rights
I have several workstations that are all running Windows 7 64bit with IE 9, fully patched, and Quicktime 7.76.80.95. I cannot get streamed quicktime media to open in the quicktime plugin unless I right-click and start IE as admin.
I have googled this issue and found references to mentions of this issue, but nothing that seems to resolve it. Instead of playing the media, it shows the question mark over the quicktime logo. If IE is started as admin, it works. I tried the script mentioned in this posting Quicktime problem and it does not fix the issue in this case.
Any help is greatly appreciated.Hi dwaynelewis, IE 9 is over 3 years old so it appears the computer is not, so called, fully patched? Windows 7 updates from Microsoft will install IE 11.
This seems to be a permissions issue. What user accounts have administrator permissions with full control? For Internet Explorer and QuickTime? The one that is initially being used to log on with, appears to not. -
Cannot view streamed photos in web browser
I have set up a photo stream from my iPhone and have set it up as a "Public Website" so that friends and family that do not have Apple devices can view the photos. Everything was working fine for about two months, but in the past couple of days people who are trying to access the photos from PCs using web browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox) have not been able to view the pictures. They can still access the site but they cannot see the photos. Any advice would be appreciated.
A number of people are have trouble with this over the last few days (Photostream website not working). It seems that the problem is at Apple's end. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Last week I updated to iTunes 7.0 and Quicktime 7.1.3 before trying to view "It's Showtime." The upgrade completed without incident. When I tried to view the event, the QuickTime player opened and was stuck on "Connecting..." forever. I can successfully listen to purchased music, podcasts, and play various downloaded media in IE and Firefox. The problem is playing streaming content kicked off by JavaScript, <OBJECT>, or <EMBED>.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall without success. I tried repairing the installation too. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks,
Mark
Various Windows XPThere must be a problem or conflict with another program on this machine because I ran the update on another machine configured similarly and it plays streamed material just fine. I'm going to download just QuickTime and install it.

IPad using 3G for streaming media
Need advice as to whether you can regularly watch full-length feature films on streaming media such as AppleTV or Netflix using the 3G (no access to Wifi from home). I have subscribed to AT&Ts 250mg plan but have a feeling that even if I upgrade to the 2gig plan I would not be able to watch more than a movie or two all month without incurring surcharges. Really then- should streaming media only be viewed from iPad when connected via wifi? Please advise.
1 movie will blow thru your 250 meg plan. 2 gigs will get you more, but not near enough for 'regular use'. But my best advise is to understand that streaming video is really an activity you need wifi for. I dont know where you live, but where i live at&t cannot provode a fast enough connection to make streaming anything more than frustrating. 3 g is usually ok for radio, but you will likely not be satified with video over 3 g. Just my opinion.

Comcast cable and streaming media
I just got Comcast cable access. Web browsing is super fast and email seems pretty smooth. BUT, I no longer can access internet radio thru iTunes, nor can I view or listen to any streaming media. BIG disappointment right off the bat. I've spoken to one Comcast support person who concluded it must be an Apple problem and told me to call them after checking out my connection and modem. I had Verizon DSL just 3 days before and everything worked beautifully.Network Utility returns a 100% failure when i ping a site most of the time, but then it works fine with 0% loss at other times. I'm going to contact Comcast again and talk to a different person.
Any thoughts??"BUT, I no longer can access internet radio thru iTunes, nor can I view or listen to any streaming media."
"I had Verizon DSL just 3 days before and everything worked beautifully."
Judging by the above, apparently some settings must have changed when you switched over to Comcast. Check your iTunes preference settings & the preference settings of whatever apps you use to view streaming media.
Another thing you can try is this;
Repair permissions.
Shut off your computer.
Disconnect the cable modem from the power outlet for approximately 3 minutes.
Reconnect the cable modem & turn on the computer.
If none of the above works then recontact Comcast. However, this time ask/demand/be firm to speak w/a tier level 2 or 3 mac tech support. Make sure you get a case#.
Explain the problem to the tech in detail.
The Techs may have you unplug your modem like I explained previously. If they ask you if you already did this always tell them NO.
Sometimes, they may ping your modem. Depends on the situation.
Let them know how long you have been "having problems". Give them a date & remind them again about giving you a case # if they did not give you one in the beginning of the troubleshooting efforts.
This is where your case # comes in. You do not pay for internet cable service that you never receive. Your case # is your only proof. The Tier Level Techs will provide further instructions. They are the only ones who provide case #s. (Very Important if dealing with Comcast - for your personal records, make a note of the date & time of the call, techs name & location. They will only give out their 1st names. This will come in handy if there is a discrepancy in your bill/you did not get your credit.)

Cannot view attachments sent to me - difficulty using iPhone for business
I have a Yahoo business e-mail account synced to my iPhone. For my business I need to view dozens of attachments each day -- mostly PDFs, PowerPoint and Word files. Some are large (more than 8 MB) and I can understand why those might be slow to load, but I cannot view small ones, such as PDFs that are less than 1 MB. The circle just spins forever.
I have used a BlackBerry 8700C for more than a year and found a product to work with it called Repligo Professional (for individuals as well as enterprise). When I am traveling, it allows me to see all the attachment types within a minute or two. So I still carry my BlackBerry, which I had hoped to retire when I migrated to the iPhone.
The strange thing is that the BlackBerry uses EDGE and the AT&T network, and it is very fast, whereas the iPhone using EDGE/AT&T does not work.
Switching to WIFI does not help.
This difficulty, combined with the cumbersome need to delete one e-mail at a time, makes the iPhone impractical for business use at this time.
Is there any solution that I am not aware of?
Thanks,
AnnaI have received many pictures from other phones, both iPhones and other non iPhones. iMessage and standard text messages have both contained pictures. However when I want to view the pictures, I cannot. When I click on the pictures it takes me to a black screen that says its loading but it never finishes. I have left it loading for over an hour with no luck of seeing the picture. I have tried it on many wifi networks and both 4g and 3G cell service with no luck. I have now figured out to save the picture then enter the photos app to look at the picture. While this solution works, I simply want my pictures to load when I click on them so I can see if it is one I need to save. Any help on how to fix the problem? I have an iPhone 4S.

I have photoshop CC. I cannot open two files such as Tiffs and view them side by side. When I open the second file it overrides the first. Do I need to do something with preferences?
What happens when you try to use the clone stamp tool?
It should work with the images side by side.
You can setup photoshop cc to be like photoshop cs2 was on your other mac, by going to Photoshop>Preferences>Interface and unchecking
Open Documents as Tabs and Enable Floating Document Window Docking
And also going to Window and unchecking Application Frame -
Cannot view photos in the stream on iPhone 6 but can with my other 4 iOS devices
I just purchased an iPhone 6 and the setup smooth but one thing..photo stream. I can take pictures and they go in the stream and I can view from my other iOS devices but I cannot view photos taken with other devices on the iPhone 6. All use the same iCloud ID.
Hi JinnaWinkas,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these steps first if the Photo Stream on one of your PCs is not updating:
you can't connect to the Internet, iCloud Photos will not be able to send or receive updates to My Photo Stream. If necessary, troubleshoot your Internet connection on your PC, Mac, or iOS devices.
Open the iCloud Control Panel and make sure that you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
In Windows 8.1, go to the Start screen, click the down arrow in the lower-left corner, then click the iCloud app.
In Windows 8, go to the Start screen, and click the iCloud tile.
In Windows 7, choose Start menu > All Programs > iCloud > iCloud.
Make sure that iCloud Photos or Photo Stream is turned on in the iCloud Control Panel. Click the Options button and make sure that My Photo Stream is turned on.
Close and reopen the iCloud Control Panel.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
You can find the article with these steps here:

I cannot view any video sent to me or by me on Windows Media Player. Seems that I need to install a "Codec"......but which one and where do I find this? In doing some reasearch, I noted that one must be careful to install the correct one. I am not happy that this was not included in my PC when I purchased it. I am using Windows 7 on HP Pavilion dv6-3133nr Entertainment Notebook, if that is of any help. Please....any info?
gramaof6,
I would be inclined to install VLC from Filehippo website, as I use VLC on all my PC clients for DVDs. Please find the link below for further information.

WRT54GS cannot connect to windows media center with xbox360/can stream media from PC to x-box
- running win XP MCE and set up xb 360 on wireless router WRT54GS updated from V1 to V 4.71.4 . PC wired to router and DSL signal goes by wire from wall to modem, router, PC. I can stream media through xbox but not make the WMC connection. I still get the"xbox360 not found on network". I have gone through x-box set up page and installed the setup files. I excluded windows firewall as a problem. I can connect to Xbox live and xbox live/media tests on the xbox run w/o any failures.
Thanks for your reply Yes, I can connect to Xbox live from x box w/o diff. It seems that the xbox can "see" the PC but the PC cannot "see" the xbox. My PC is XP not Vista.

I uninstalled FlashPlayer because the last 2 weeks my fan was running continually and the CPU was hot!
I did this on advise of "mende1" and it solved the problem!
But now I'm stuck with the fact I cannot view those videos that work with FlashPlayer...
On the ADOBE site I can download older versions, starting at 10.1.
I'm confident that the heating problem does not exist with the older versions.
Any idea from which version it started? Which version should be safe to install?
From 10.3 they say that you can update directly to 11.7.
I guess that the problem entered somewhere here.
So I downloaded the file named "playerglobal10_3.swc", but it than it says that there is no standard program associated with it to open.
So what's the next step?
Thank you for any advise. You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe. -
Linux 3.12 and streaming media on a Dell XPS 13: kernel panic
Hi all,
Shortly after upgrading from Linux 3.11.6 to 3.12, I started getting kernel panics while playing streaming media (in particular from Youtube and The Daily Show). Here is a camera shot. The crash would not take place immediatly, but perhaps after 15 minutes of streaming. After downgrading to Linux 3.11.6 everything works fine. Therefore, it is clear to me that the issue is related to the Linux 3.12 kernel, but this is all I know.
The fifth-to-last line from the camera shot reads:
[11438.332699] RIP [<ffffffff8129e160>] __sg_page_iter_start+0x20/0x20
A quick Google search reveals that __sg_page_iter_start is a function inside the scatterlist.h library in the Linux kernel, which apparently deals with memory paging, but my knowledge about this stuff is so poor that the message is almost meaningless. I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me a hint about this.
I did not find anything useful in the journal, but here are the last few journal lines for 2 different crash instances:

Nov 15 00:26:02 xps kernel: perf samples too long (2530 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50100
However, this seems to be a normal occurrence after playing games (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=170471), so I would guess this is not related to the kernel panic.

Hopefully this should be sufficient information, I've linked to this thread too. I've also mentioned I'm willing to beam one at someone from Amazon, with 2-day shipping to the USA the Pluggable branded adapter is just under NZD$40, which I can easily live with.
===========================================================================================================
USB3 gigabit ethernet adapters with the ASIX AX88179 chipset (LevelOne USB0401-V3, Plugable USB3-E1000, SIIG JU-NE0211-S1 and others) are experiencing kernel panics in usb_hcd_map_urb_for_dma since 3.12. The issue does not seem to directly correlate with low or high network activity, occurring seemingly at random. Some panics occurred less than 5 minutes from boot and tens of megabytes of network transfer, while on other occasions it would be stable for multiple days with tens to hundreds of gigabytes of line-rate throughput and several sleep/resume cycles.
Both my Sony Vaio Pro 13 and another user reporting this issue on the Arch forums [1] are Intel-based, my USB controller is an 8086:9c31 (Lynx Point LP), the other is reported as a C210/7 series (unknown PID). A third with a Haswell Dell XPS has attempted my workaround and reports similar success.
I have a mediocre quality photo of my laptop's screen from one of these panics [2], the call trace - which is similar but not identical between my machine and that of the other user reporting the issue - is as follows:

So far as I can tell, the driver is unaffected as late as 3.11.6, but problematic as of 3.12 (and still affected in 3.13-rc5). The history of drivers/net/usb/ax88179_178a.c for this time period yields this patch, which at least in my somewhat limited understanding appeared a likely candidate. I've reverted this on my system - against several linux-next builds from the last 3-4 weeks - and have had no issues with this network controller since.
commit 3804fad45411b48233b48003e33a78f290d227c8
Author: Ming Lei <[email protected]>

USBNET: ax88179_178a: enable tso if usb host supports sg dma
This patch enables 'can_dma_sg' flag for ax88179_178a device
if the attached host controller supports building packet from
discontinuous buffers(DMA SG is possible), so TSO can be enabled
and skb fragment buffers can be passed to usb stack via urb->sg
directly.
With the patch, system CPU utilization decreased ~50% and throughput
increased by ~10% when doing iperf client test on one ARM A15 dual
core board.

Unfortunately I have not retained the built kernel from a broken 3.12 build, so the system information below reflects the patched linux-next kernel I am running currently.
I understand this may be a somewhat obscure piece of hardware, I am willing to assist by drop-shipping one to someone from Amazon (or local country equivalent if the price is not extortionate) should it be required.

Cannot view any sites on a particular server
I just got my MacBook Pro and imported all my prefs from my PowerBook G4 and everything's cruising along fine - EXCEPT!
I cannot view any of the websites I host from any browser (Safari, FireFox, IE). I can view the rest of the net just fine.
If this is an ISP problem, please don't write it off as such and please give me some ideas that I can pursue with my ISP!!!!
The sites are live at 74.52.131.146 and they are:

http://uncoolguy.com/Hi, Bee.
(I'm on Comcast, by the way).
I'm not saying it's necessarily Comcast, but the DNS issue that Comcast is notorious for will vary from customer to customer, depending on which of Comcast's DNS servers is dynamically "fed" to each customer. Some are sometimes flaky - others will be fine.
I can view Troy's sites in my Safari, too, using Comcast's own DNS servers.
From Troy's symptoms - being able to access all but a few sites, which are all hosted on the same server - I'd look to DNS first. Anyway, it's a very simple thing to test by specifying alternate DNS addresses, so it's certainly worth a try.
Of course, your suggestion to empty cache and history is excellent, and also a simple thing to try.
