Cannot wake my iMac from sleep
I put my iMac to sleep by doing one of required steps. However, I cannot wake my iMac from sleep. I am using a wired keyboard and a wireless mouse.
May I know what is the problem?
Hi nihow-
But you are not done.
One of those devices is preventing your mac from waking. You may want to try plugging them back in one at a time and use it for a while to see if you can find the culprit.

I cannot wake up IMAC from sleep at times
Recently when my IMAC is either intentionally placed in Sleep Mode of when it goes to that state through inactivity, I find that I am unable to wake the machine up. The sleep mode indicator like goes out, the machine is running, but, nothing can bring the screen up short of pulling out the power cord, reinserting it into a source of power and then pressing the power button in the rear of the unit. The problem is not constant in that it does not occur all the time.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
The 5 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions. -
When I wake my iMac from sleep, the wireless does not connect. I have to shut shutdown and then restart and then it connects. I am running Lion 10.7.3 Any thoughts?
Been waiting along time for this problem to be fixed. Unfortunately the update hasn't help at all and even made the situation worse. Now my airplay connection from iMac to stereo abruptly stops after about 10-15 min. so I have to go over and quit wifi, start it up and find my airport network. Not sure why it always has a problem with the apple airport network. My neighbor's pc network is always there.

I am currently using a USB keyboard (PC Model) and everytime I wake the computer from sleep the keyboard no longer responds unless I unplug and replug it. The USB mouse I am using works fine with no issues and I have already gone through the prompt to identify the keyboard in the settings. If anyone know of a setting I can use to permenantly enable the keyboard so I no longer have to unplug and replug it that would be appreciated.
Thank you.Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was. -
Apple keyboard or mouse won't wake up iMac from sleep.
After I put my iMac to sleep the keyboard or mouse won't wake it up. I have to push the power button to awaken it. Wake from sleep is enabled in bluetooth preferences so that is not the problem. Otherwise keyboard and mouse are working fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Regrettably, I can't offer a solution to the problem stated in the title. Instead, I experience the same problem.
Wireless Mighty Mouse circa 2007
Wireless Apple Keyboard circa 2007
Bluetooth dongle (a bluetooth thingy connected to a USB port)
Things worked fine until an upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Following the upgrade there were several mouse related issues. Those were resolved. One issue remains: waking by use of mouse or keyboard.
The setup (Same for keyboard and mouse)
System Preferences --- Bluetooth --- Keyboard Connected --- Keyboard Paired. The "Discoverable" box is checked.
Digging deeper
System Preferences --- Bluetooth --- Advanced --- "Allow Bluetooth device to wake this computer" --- This option is unchecked and is greyed out, inaccessible. Two of the other options are checked and available: the options about opening the Bluetooth assistant and the one about prompting incoming audio.
I've searched other posts. However, many of the other posts seem to conflate this Wake/Sleep issue with various connection issues. Thus, the advice given is a bit confusing to this amateur. Might one of you experts have a solution to this annoying little problem?
Thanks for your interest.

How to wake my Imac from sleep with just power button?
I keep my Imac o the floor so a lot of times I'll accidentally wake it from sleep. I want to set it up so only the power button will wake it.
Not possible unless you unhook the keyboard/mouse.

Back To My Mac; does it wake the iMac from sleep?
Back To My Mac sounds promising. But, it is nowhere mentioned whether it wakes the Mac up from sleep or even starts it up when contacted from afar? If not, it is not that useful!
From teh users guide here (it's a .pdf) -> http://images.apple.com/dotmac/docs/L358808ABackMacUG.pdf
"*Adjust sleep settings*
Back to My Mac can connect to your remote computer only if it is awake. If your computer is in sleep mode, it does not automatically wake up when you try to connect using Back to My Mac." -
Screen freezes up when I wake the iMac from sleep
Hi, all. This is my first post to Apple Discussions, so please pardon me if this is a dumb question. I have had a problem twice in the last 24 hours. I have an iMac G5 that I keep on most of the time. I do put it on sleep mode when I'm not using it. This morning, and then again this evening, I had the iMac on sleep mode. When I woke the computer, the screen came up, as usual, but when I went to click on the Safari icon, the screen became fuzzy and locked up. Powering the unit down was the only way to restart the computer. After that, things worked fine. However, this is a new occurrence. Is it something serious? Is it easily fixable? Is this common with iMacs? Just wondering. In the meantime, I'll probably just use the "shut down" command when the computer is not in use. Thanks for any advice that you can offer.

I can't wake my iMac from sleep
I upgraded my mid 2007 24" imac to Mavericks. After the upgrade after 10 min my screen goes black (sleep). I can't wake the system up. After a few mins it shuts off. Since then I tried several things to figure out was it mavericks or just timing of an issue. Since then I added a new hard drive, then added Mountain lion back on and replaced the memory from 4 gig to new 4 gig. I still get the same issue. After 5 - 10 min the imac goes to sleep mode and I can't awaken it. If I pull the plug out and plug back in I have about 5 - 10 min again before it goes black. It is out of apple warranty so any help I would appreciate. I would like to fix it and I can do it myself if I knew what it was. Power Supply?, Video Card? Logic Board? Any ideas or checks I can do? I am technical and I can disassemble and reasemble myself. Is there any *ram that could have gotten updated or corrupt while upgrading the first time to Mavericks???

HT3887 My bluetooth devices will not wake my iMac from sleep mode.
My iMac will not awake using the bluetooth keyboard or mouse. I can use a USB mouse but bluetooth and network connection will not respond. I must restart the machine. This happens after several hours of being in sleep mode like all day when at work or over night. I have the system set to wake the computer with a keyboard or mouse click. THis works only when in sleep mode for an hour or two.

Cannot wake my imac from sleep remotely unless on own wifi network. Tried splashtop & logmein. Checked obvious on settings. Using airport extreme. Have set uo both VPN for access anywhere.
Ok, all you should need to do is go into System Preferences --> Energy Saver and make sure that the "Wake for network access" checkbox is checked.
Your iMac should be connected to your modem via ethernet cable. If not it may not work, depending on what version of mac OS X you are running. Again, you DO NOT need an AirPort Express to wake you iMac from sleep via LAN. you only need to tell you iMac to wake from sleep upon LAN activity. -
Can Magic Trackpad Wake iMac From Sleep?
Can a Magic Trackpad wake an iMac from sleep? Actually, I know the answer is yes, but I want to know specifically is, how exactly can a Magic Trackpad wake an iMac from sleep?
I know that doing a physical click wakes an iMac. But should tap to click or just wiggling your finger around on the surface of the Trackpad work? Because for me it doesn't. The only way I can get my Magic Trackpad to wake my iMac from sleep is by doing a physical click.hello all,
I got my iMac in November of 2009, and ever since then, I just had to touch the mouse wake up the computer or turn off the screen saver. But last night, I updated to Lion, and now I have to actually click on the mouse to wake it up. Is there a setting that I can adjust so I can simply touch the mouse to wake up the iMac (sorry, I know it's completely trivial, I just want it to be perfect).
Thanks! Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Trouble when waking iMac from sleep?
When I wake my iMac from sleep I get an error message on screen telling me there has been an unexpected shutdown. Any clues as to the solution?
Thanks for the quick replies. When I look in System Diagnostic Reports there is nothing there, plenty in 'all messages. However I did copy the messages sent tp Apple on the last problem which I paste below...

Can't use mouse/keyboard/trackpad when waking iMac from sleep mode
Basically as the title says. When I wake my iMac from sleep mode I am unable to use my keyboard/trackpad/mouse during the login window. Once the screen goes black by itself, after a minute or so I can then log in properly.
Yes the keyboard/mouse/trackpad are all connected when it wakes from sleep as I can use any of them to wake it from sleep, I just can't move them or type with them in the login window.
Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
