Cannot watch rented movie - Error 5103

I downloaded a movie to rent. It downloaded fine, but when I try to watch it, I get:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (5103).
I did some research and the last thing I could find (from over a year ago) is that this may be because my time is out of sync. But it's not; I auto-sync with an internet time source. And for the record, no, I wasn't trying to futz with the time so I'd have more days to watch it. Just to be safe, I manually re-synced.
The only peculiar thing is that I began downloading it shortly before midnight and finished after midnight.
I tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing my computer, but that didn't work.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may be happening?
Thanks.

Figured it out.
This was the first time I had tried to watch a rented movie since upgrading to Windows 7.
The answer turned out to be disabling UAC. As soon as I did that and rebooted, the movie successfully started playing.
So just FYI if you have this problem in the future.

This alert is related to iTunes Store movie rentals and authorization issues.
Make sure you are using the most recent version of iTunes and QuickTime. They both can be downloaded free of charge.
If your iTunes is up to date, remove the SC Info folder.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot watch rented movie on apple tv 1

I recently rented a movie from the iTunes store and downloaded it into my AppleTV (original version). Surprisingly, at the end of the download when I tried to watch the movie I got an alert message on the screen saying my  AppleTV is not authorized to show the movie. Is there something I missed about the compatibility of the original AppleTV and iTunes Store rentals?

    Try de/re authorising your computer.

  • Cannot watch rented movie - connection not HDCP

My Toshiba 32WLT68 LCD is HDCP compliant, but the Apple TV won't let me play the HD movie I spent hours downloading because it says the connection does not support HDCP. Could it be the cheap HDMI cable I'm using, or could there be some other issue?

The specs on Toshibas web site say its HD Ready, and it defines HD Ready as being "Concerns the ability of projectors to display high-definition pictures. To meet the HD ready standard the projector must have 720p horizontal lines of pixels, HDMI or DVI with HDCP and component".
I presume from this (and the fact that web sites selling my model of TV list it as supporting HDCP) that it does support HDCP. There is no mention of HDCP in the user manual though.
Do you think it's worth buying a different HDMI cable? Mine was a cheap one from ebay - but there are many people who claim that the quality of the HDMI cable doesn't make any difference. If I'm going to have to buy a new cable, I'd rather buy a new HDMI cable than a component cable - assuming that HDMI will work.

    Hello kmb_cb_lb
If you cannot get your rental to play, then report the issue to the iTunes Store to get it resolved or refunded.

  • Why do i receive error -42110 when trying to watch rented movies

I've downloaded rented movies & have been charged by iTunes/Apple.  However, receive error -42110 when attempt to watch rented movie.

    Read this

Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to default on Windows. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • Cannot Sync Rented Movies to Apple TV

I cannot sync rented movies to my Apple TV. I contacted Apple Support and they told me to update my Apple TV software (done), update my iTunes software (done) and reauthorize my computer (done). But it still won't work. It gives me the option to "move" the movie and it starts the syncing process but never finishes the process and never gives any type of error message as to why it does not complete the move. It just moves the movie back to the other side of the "move" screen. I have no problem syncing tv shows to my Apple TV. The Apple rep's response was that he recommended that I not purchase anymore rental movies. Isn't there something else I could try to fix it? Has anyone else encountered this? Thank you very much.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT purchase rental movies in I-Tunes if you want to watch them on Apple TV. I rented "Batman Begins" in I-Tunes and Apple TV says it is "not authorized" to play it. I rented the "Darjeeling Trials", and Apple TV played the first few minutes - but when I paused it and came back to it, it said "this movie has expired" and even deleted the rental from I-Tunes for me - niiiice.
My Apple TV is brand new, latest model, 160GB, latest latest software (downloaded today) and I also have the latest lates (7.1.1) I-Tunes software. IF you download thru I-Tunes, RENTALS DO NOT WORK with this software.
Download direct to Apple TV instead (at least that works... )

  • ITunes won't let me watch rented movies!

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3, Quicktime 7.5.5. iTunes message says I can't watch rented movies and recommended another QT version that I can't remember. What should I do? Note: in Systems Profiler, I have QT 7.5.5 in Apps and in Frameworks.

Apparently a lot of people have reading comprehension issues.  I have the same problem as op except I use first generation appleTV.  So for you slow people let me spell it out.
If you are trying to purchase movies on iTunes (this is the important part so pay attention) running on a computer that does not support HD you are NOT able to purchase HD movies.  The message that pops up says you cannot purchase HD movies on a computer that does not support HD.
The question the OP was asking and I have this question also is why does it matter if the computer I am buying the movie on supports HD when the intent is not to play the movie on the computer in the first place.  AppleTV does support HD and streams from itunes on the computer.

  • I cannot view rented movies (purchased through itunes) on my iPad2 in-flight

I cannot view rented movies (purchased through itunes) with the Video app on my iPad2 while flying. On a hunch, I purchased in-flight wifi and only then could I watch my rentals. What gives? Any suggestions on how to avoid paying for in-flight wifi is appreciated.

I don't think that he waited a day.  From the wording, I concluded that he waited only minutes (during take-off).
I recall seeing this issue before.  Apparently there is an issue related to copyright protection with some movies.  I stopped flying when I retired so I didn't pay too much attention to the problem.  Perhaps a search of the forum will shed more light.

when watching rented movie the picture keeps freezing, in about 30 seconds it plays again

I just started have this same/simmilar issue to.  Was there a solution to the original question?  I have 2 ATVs.  One works without issue, the other... kicks me out repeatedly... to the point where the content will load for about 3 sec before kicking me all the way out.  Tried all the trouble shooting options including: checking latest software update, reset, hard restart, and checking router download speed (over 50 Mbps on speedtest.net).  Should mention this occurs most frequently when downloading Netflix content, but the same issue occurs downloading other content like PBS.
