Cannot write or delete files from DVD+RW after erasing it through Disk Utility. Help.

Hello. I erased (completely not quickly) my 4.7 GB DVD+RW with the help of Disk Utility in which it was successful, it asked me to open Finder, DVD Player or Disk Utility, I chose Finder. Then I dragged a MP4 and burned it, it asked me to name the blank DVD+RW so I named it and then it successfully burned the file onto the DVD+RW, now when I try to burn a file again (as it is a RW) by dragging the file to the DVD+RW window the cursor shows a stop sign with it (the sign which is a circle and there is a diagonal line it it) and it denies to write files again, when I try to remove a file it doesn't do it as well. Please help.
P.S When I secondary click on the DVD+RW icon and click get info it says "Capacity : 4.7 GB" and "Available : 0 Bytes" even when the MP4 file is just 8.3 MB.
Computer: Macbook Pro 13-Inch (Non-Retina) Highest Configuration.
Please Help.

Hello Aditya's Apple,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you want to write again to a CD RW or DVD RW disc you will need to first erase it, and then start another burn process.  The only time you can burn multiple times to a disc without first deleting what is on it, is by multisession burning.  The following article explains more.

  • Cannot save an MP3 file from a webpage after Leopard upgrade

    Hello,
    I am a graduate student and my instructor posts his lectures online as mp3 files. When I was using Tiger and Safari, I was able to right click the file and save it to my computer. Now, after I upgraded to Leopard, I right click and attempt to save and I get an error message of "no permissions to read file." If I click on the file, quicktime will play the mP3 in the safari browser but I want to save the file to my computer so I can listen to it through iTunes.
    I am able to currently work around this by using Firefox as it allows me to save the file with no problem but I want to use Safari.
    Any ideas?
    BTW - Safari is 3.0.4 (Leopard)
    Thanks!

    It won't work if you drag it, but you can copy it from the Activity window, and then paste it into the downloads window. But it may get stuck that way too. The only way I know of is to open the MP3 in Safari, let it load, and then click on File and save it. And I'm using the latest Safari.

  • Can't drag/delete files from C Drive after moving them into the D Drive

    Like many others, I have depleted my C Drive space and needed to move my iTunes folder into mt D Drive. I got these instructions from iTunes which tell me that after I have moved the files into the D Drive to find the old files in my C Drive and just drag them into the recycle bin. When I try that it tells me it can't be done because of copywrite protection issues. I need to free up that C Drive space by getting rid of those files. Can anyone help with this? I'd preferr an e-mailed answer if you could. Thanks.

    When I try that it tells me it can't be done because of copywrite protection issues.
    What is the exact error message that you're getting?

    Check out the new and FREE 'AIR Browser' File Manager in appworld. You can use it to create/rename/delete folders and sub-folders, it can also copy, cut, paste and delete files.

    Hi Richard, did you ever get this issue resolved?  We are having a similar issue on XI R3 SP4 using NAS/CIFS shares for our File Stores.  We see this issue mainly after our servers are patched and a full environment restart is initiated.  Like you, our event logs fill up with so many error messages I cannot pinpoint exactly when the issue starts happening.

  • Installed OS X Snow Leopard on external HDD, now won't allow me to delete files from Mac internal drive

    Hi,
    I am stuck!  My 1 TB iMac 27" decided to stop booting up and would only stay at the grey screen with the apple, gear turning and progress bar. When it got to a certain point on the progress bar it would shut down.  Thanks to so many helpful people and their experiences I was able to try many different things including (Command + S, typing /sbin/mount -uw / enter , chmod 775 / enter, logout enter, then rebooting holding down Command + V) and (Reinstalling OS X and using Disk Utility to repair - came up with Disk can't be fixed).
    Nothing worked until I read a couple of very wise answers who said "Your hard drive is not dead, but too full...keep at least 10% free at all times". I was down to about 1% (ooops!)  Thankfully hubby had bought me an external HDD for Christmas, onto which I installed OS X and being connected to my iMac, it recognized my internal Macintosh HD and all my files are there.  Phewww!  But I don't want to use my external HDD as my startup disk, I wan't to keep my Macintosh HD for startup but it is too full to repair and select as startup.
    My problem is that I cannot delete files from Macintosh HD, and I've tried to unlock files/folders but they don't seem to be locked.  But when I drag them to the trash can it says "The item ... can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted."  Again, many helpful answers online, but nothing is working.  I have 2 Finder windows open, one with external HDD (new startup disk), and old HDD (Macintosh HD) but all items in Macintosh HD can't be altered or deleted (right click doesn't highlight to change the name).  So if I can't delete my files, I can't reinstall OS X and repair disk and select it as my startup disk.  I'd be so thrilled if someone can help me.  I have tried unlocking folders, and I downloaded 'Trashit'. Neither worked, so I figure because it has the little pencil crossed out on the menu bar that it is protected somehow...I just don't know how/what to do.  Thanks

    Ok, so I'll try set it out a bit clearer than my first post,
    This is what I've done, and the results:
    1. My son unplugged working iMac Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2, 1TB with only 11GB available space
    2. Turned it on and got the white screen, apple, turning gear and load-up bar
    3. Turned Mac off and waited 1/2 a minute.
    4. Turned Mac back on...(same as 3.), tried again many times
    5. Began searching internet for answers (see original post)
    6. Found answers and did the following:
                   1.     Put OS X installation disk into drive
                   2.     Attached External Hard Drive
                   3.     Installed OS X onto External Hard Drive (With a different name & password to original HDD)
                   4.     Found Macintosh HD still worked so tried to delete files only to get message saying                                           files couldn't be deleted (see original post)
    I've tried changing the permissions in 'Get Info' and this is what happens:
    1.Right click Macintosh HD - says "You can only read"
                                                      Name: System - Read & Write
                                                                 Admin -   Read & Write
                                                                 Everyone - Read only
    2.Click on padlock to unlock - doesn't turn black to be able to change anything
    3.Check the box "Ignore ownership on this volume" (someone else advised to do this)
    4.Name changes to 'mydrive (Me)'
    5.Lock padlock and Name still says mydrive (Me) but still 'You can only read'
    I don't know what is wrong or what to do, but perhaps you are right LowLuster, that because I named them different names it is protected in some way.
    My thought now is to copy all my files to the external HDD and then erase and install again on my internal HD, but I really need my calendar, emails etc from my old HD and not sure they can be found on the old HD to copy over.
    Still stuck!

  • Delete file from folder only (not from list)

    Hi all,
    I've searched a lot and didn't succeed so far, that's why I need your help. In a cloud context, I'm actually creating and uploading files (pdf and/or xml files) "on the go" to sharepoint folders via the SOAP API and this is perfectly working. But
    in a cloud context, I also need to decomission services which is translated into deleting files into Sharepoint.
    That's where it became complicated, because according to the API we cannot delete files if they are not part of a list structure, which is not my case. Is that true ?
    The only info I have when trying to delete a file via the SOAP Api is : its name, its folder, and the endpoint where the folder is. So my question remains simple I guess : is this possible ? If so, how to (a link to the SOAP body would be usefull)
    Thanks a lot
    Regards
    Baptiste

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to delete file from folder.
    In SharePoint 2010, It is recommended to use Client Object Model to achieve it, the following code snippet for your reference:
    string siteURL = "http://siteurl";
    ClientContext context = new ClientContext(siteURL);
    //specific user
    NetworkCredential credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain");
    context.Credentials = credentials;
    Web web = context.Web;
    context.Load(web);
    context.ExecuteQuery();
    string relativeUrl =web.ServerRelativeUrl +"/DocumentLibraryName/FolderName/FileName";
    File file = web.GetFileByServerRelativeUrl(relativeUrl);
    context.Load(file);
    file.DeleteObject();
    context.ExecuteQuery();
    If you still want to use SOAP API, we can use the UpdateListItems method under Lists web service to achieve it.

  • How to permanently delete files from trash?

    I usually see TV series online. Every time I visit to the website, it automatically downloads a Mac_Installer file to my Downloads folder. I delete the file without opening it and secure empty the trash. When I visit the website again, the same file is downloaded to my Downloads folder, and the "previous deleted file" from the trash can reappears on it. How to solve this matter? My computer is a MacBook Pro and is running OS X Mavericks.
    Thanks.

    Try erasing free space using Disk Utility.
    Erase free disk space
    When you delete files in Mac OS X, your Mac deletes the information used to access the deleted files but doesn't physically remove them. Although the space used by the deleted files appears as free space, the deleted files remain on the disk until new files are written over them. As a result, these files can be recovered. Erasing free space does not delete any other files on your disk besides the ones that you already deleted.
    After the drive is connected, launch the Disk Utility application in any of the following ways:
    Type the first few letters of its name into Spotlight. Select it from the results.
    Go Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
    Go Launchpad > Utilities > Disk Utility
    Once you are in the Disk Utility app, select the disk or partition you would like to erase from the left.
    Select the Erase tab.
    Choose the Erase Free Space button.
    Use the Slider to choose how many times you would like to write over the free space.
    Select Erase Free Space.
    Note: After this process starts, you can cancel it at any time without harming any of your data. You might see a message stating that you are running out of disk space. This is normal and to be expected. You can ignore this message.
    When the process is complete, you should have the same amount of free space. If you do not have the same amount of free space, try restarting the computer.
    I hope I helped.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS: RDS Users are unable to delete files from their desktop

    Hello,
    We are working with Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS. We also implemented User Profile Disks. This is all working fine without problems. The only issue I have is that normal users are unable to delete files from their desktop. They are getting a message:
    you'll need administrator permission to delete this file, with the prompt for administrator access.
    They can edit, copy, rename, cut and paste files. But they cannot delete a file from their desktop.
    I checked the security permissions of the files on the desktop (for example a normal self-created PDF file) and the users are owner and have "Full Control" over the files.
    I checked the file permissions and took a look under "Advanced", selecting the specific domain user and checked the "Advanced Permissions" and the user has the "Delete" option checked. So he should be able to delete the
    file.
    I am guessing this is UPD related issue, or something in GPO. But I already unlinked the GPO objects, that I felt could be the source of this problem, but without results.
    Could someone give me a hint on where to look? It's kinda annoying to users, that they can't delete their own files.

    Hello Bria,
    What you should check first, is the NTFS permissions on the User Profile Disk to begin with. See if the user has full control over the items that are in the UPD.
    Also check the GPO's that are enabled for the user and computer account. You can check that by running: gpresult /h <path>\gpresult.html
    There are two GPO settings that could prevent the user from deleting his/her own items:
    User
    Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Windows Explorer\
    Hide these specified drives in My Computer
    Prevent access to specified drives in My
    Computer
    There might be other GPO settings, that block deleting items on the UPD, but can't think of any out of my head.
    I can only think NTFS and GPO settings that might prevent the user from deleting items. In my case it was a GPO setting, that I didn't suspect.

    Have you tried putting the file from your Drobo, onto your computer, then onto to the external hard drive?

  • Cannot write to external HD from MacBook.  Error Code -36

    Whenever I attempt to write to my Western Digital External HD (500 gb formatted HFS+m, USB 2.0 connection), I receive a Finder Error:
    "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "filename" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)
    This happens just a little bit ago as I was transferring files over with intent to perform a back up >.< I was in the process of transferring one file when the error initially occurred. Had disk utility try to repair the disk, and it says the disk is fine. The knowledge base is...less than useful in regards to this. There was no power issue during transfer (MacBook was plugged in), nothing else except Safari was running for basic web browsing. I can pull information off of the drive just fine. I cannot add, however.
    Any idea as to a solution for this?

    Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately, most of those would not apply since its almost all files that are having issues. None of them are password protected, in use by system (as far as activity monitor tells me. Tried after several restarts to no avail, unplugging the Ext. HD from the system, etc). I removed non-standard formating (tried simple names).
    I have noticed, however, that small files seem to copy; it's almost like it's having issues with the file size. Smaller files, for example, a 21.9 mb video I made, copy alright. Larger files do not.
    I can copy off of the drive, but not onto the drive. There should be around 320 gb left on the drive. What I would like to do is reformat the Mac or the HD, but unfortunately, I don't have the storage space elsewhere to back up what is on the drive (tis why I downloaded it in the first place), and I need to back stuff up on my MacBook still, hence the attempts at writing to the drive. I could probably have my multimedia machine take some of the data from the Macbook, but I really would rather try to find a direct cause, if possible, for future reference and to see if this is going to be an ongoing issue.

  • How do I delete files from a portable hard drive

    I've been backing up my MacBook Pro on an external portable hard drive. I need to delete some but not all the files from that portable hard drive permanently. When I highlight them and click to move them to Trash I get a message telling me this cannot be done because they are Read Only files? How do I go about it. I am required by work to delete them off this hard drive. Do I have to reformat the hard drive? If so how do I go about it?

    You can easily delete files from a Time Machine Backup:
    Click the Time Machine icon in the Dock.If the Time Machine icon isn’t in the Dock, look for Time Machine in the Applications folder.
    Use the arrows or the timeline along the right side of your screen to browse through the backups Time Machine created.The windows behave just like Finder windows, so you can open folders, click items in the sidebar, and use the search field in the upper-right corner of the window.
    When you find the item you want to delete, select it, and then open the Action menu (looks like a gear) and choose Delete All Backups for the item.
