Canon 1DX mov file issues

I cannot use MOV files from my 1DX in Premiere CS6.  The files play audio but the video is un-playable.  I am on a Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion.
The files play fine in Lightroom.
Sean

That's strange because CUDA doesn't affect simple playback.  If turning that off solved the issue, then something unusual is going on with your system.

Cannot transfer videos taken from my Canon camera(MOV files) to the iPad 4. They have previous with no problems at all. Is this an update issue? I tried to sync them over using iTunes last night but it says that they cannot be played on the device. But they have previously

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Canon 7D MOV files = horrible editing in Premiere Pro CS4?

    Hi All,
I just got Premiere Pro CS4 in the mail today.  I was so excited to start cutting up my Canon 7D MOV files but it seems the MOV files play horribly in Premiere.
I looked around a little on the forum and found some others feel the same way (as well as the 5D users).
Surely I won't have to use quicktime to preview my videos.  The previewer in Premiere can barely play the files.
So, what is everybody doing these days to get a smoother work flow?
I don't want to have to do a lot of pre-editing (didn't Adobe think of this before claiming it's compatible with Canon 7D/5D files?)
Also, when starting a NEW SEQUENCE, what PRESETS should I use?  I record in 60fps.  So AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic?? (what a long name!)
    HELP ME!!

    Hey Jeff,
Here is that link I read it from...
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/500152
Yeah, "technically supports" is giving me a headache.  I've spent my night and morning trying to find the best solution and it seems very scattered on the web.
So far the best is this blog about the "complete idiots guide to Canon 5D and PrPRO CS4..."  (note the link doesn't go straight to blog... look on the right side and click the link)
    http://www.crookedpathfilms.com/blogframe.html
I didn't want to go the FCP route but I think I made a mistake buying CS4 last minute.  You know what sucks?  Yesterday as I'm installing Premiere Pro CS4 I'm checking my email and I see the news about the April launch of CS5 and how greatly improved PrPro CS5 is.   Oops.

  • Cannot import Canon 500D .MOV files into Lightroom 4.1

I've seen a few problems on here about similar issues.
I've imported .mov files before, but a perfectly valid (short, circa 10 seconds) .MOV clip just will not preview or import into Lightroom 4.1 on my Win7 x64 system.
The movie will play fine directly from the card, but just won't import!
    Any ideas, chaps?

  • Log & Transfer Error (.mov files) Issue

When I add my SD info in Log & Transfer Window i get the error message "100Canon" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.....
I used a Canon EOS Rebel to get the footage. I understand that FCE does not work with these .mov files without having to be forced to render.
Is there any way that I can transfer these .mov files to avoid having to render? If not can I convert them to another file without loosing quality? Is there any solution to avoid having to render?

You may lose a tiny bit of quality but it won't be noticeable. In Streamclip, you go to +File > Export to Quicktime+ and choose the Apple Intermediate Codec as your compression. Make sure you set a frame rate of 29.97 and audio to Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz. The exported video will be an AIC file in a .mov container.

  • Removing color profile (if any) from over-exposed Canon 5D mov file's

I am working with some footage from a cameraman's Canon 5D, they are in mov format, but I am having a problem when I import them to FCP (they look the same way when I play them in QT too).
The color saturation is extremely high, and I know it was not filmed that way on set, I want to know if there is some color profile in the mov files that Canon 5D's record and if so how do I remove them?
Basically everything looks way over-exposed and I know the 5D is not that poor of quality.

Below is the FCP info from one of the video files:
It appearently uses the h.264 codec for the video stream.
I know that the picture was not over saturated during the shoot because we reviewed it then on set, but now it looks different.
I even put both my arms on my camera guy's shoulder and looked him square in the eyes and told him that "the Canon 5D has a reputation for being over-exposed and over-saturated, I want under-exposed, make sure you pay attention to that and review every shot". (don't worry I was being nice to him, we're friends).
I should mention one more thing, when I place the video in a sequence on FCP's timeline, sometimes when I apply affects to it and forget to render it, there is a moment when the video looks properly exposed and then goes back to looking over-exposed when I quickly run the scrubber over it and not let FCP a chance to display properly.
So I know, or at least have reason to believe there is a color profile in there somewhere that is causing it to look over-exposed and over-saturated. I just can't get rid of it.

  • IPad and .mov file issue

I am trying to play some .mov files on my iPad. I was able to drag and drop one of the files from my hard drive to the Movies folder in iTunes.  The drag and drop worked and the file plays fine.  I then go on to do the second file but get an error message when I try to drop it into iTunes: "[file name.mov] was not copied to the iPad '[iPad name]' because it cannot be played on this iPad."  Both files are .mov.  Why am I able to drag and drop one file into iTunes but not the other?  (I am able to drag and drop it into "Movies" in my regular iTunes account, just not to the iPad device).

Not all mov videos are friendly to iPad, but only H.264 / MPEG-4 encoding video in mov format is compatible with iPad. And the most important step is to convert MOV to the right MOV (mpeg-4), mov (h.264) for ipad. I haven't tried it, but this free software for Mac/Windows may convert it.

  • CS3 - Import and Export Quality Problems with Canon S90 .mov files

    Hi Folks,
I have spent several hours searching with no results in the forums, and I am a beginner with Premiere, so I apologize for any annoying questions I may post.
Here is the problem I am having.  The very first step!  Go figure.
I have videos taken with a Canon S90 point and and shoot camera, in .mov format, 640x480, 30 frames per second.
When I play these videos in Quick Time or Windows Media Player they look great.  Very sharp and smooth video.
When I import these videos into Premiere Pro CS3 - and don't do anything to them besides play them in either the source window or or Program window, the quality is much lower.  They are not sharp, and have an unusual texture, almost like there is a tiny bit of water on the lens distorting the view as it moves.
I imported the video under the DV-NTSC Standard 48kHZ preset.  I have the most updated Quick Time.
I also attempted to improve the view settings to their maximum with no results.  I also exported the video to see if it was just the viewing, but the exported video is even worse.  Very low quality and not sharp.
Thanks for any suggestions on the correct settings to import these videos without loosing quality.

Well, I have read and understand the Codec aspect a bit.  I have discovered that my
files are avc1 H.264 Codec.  Doing more research it appears that CS3 Premiere Pro has some trouble editing H.264 files.
So from what I gather so far, it looks like my best bet would be to convert the file into another format that is easier to edit by Premiere.
    Is that correct?
If so, I am still unsure what to convert it to.
What is the program that is best to use to convert with?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • File system task - Move file issue, skip the current log file thats open by another process - IIS logs

    Hi,
I have created a package to move IIS log files from their source directory to another directory called processing. However, when the package tries to move the current log file it errors because the file is in use by another process (by IIS as its still writing
to it). I would like the package to just ignore the "in-use" file and process the rest and show the package completing successfully. The file in use will be rolled by IIS at midnight and the file will be picked up by the next package run.
However, when the file is rolled and becomes free a new log file is created which will be marked as "in-use"...... which should be ignored at the next run.
Is there some way that I can tell the file system task to ignore in use files or add an event handler to do the same sort of thing?
    Any assistance is appreciated

    Hi Arthur,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have resolved the issue with the following example:
    http://www.timmitchell.net/post/2010/08/23/ssis-conditional-file-processing-in-a-foreach-loop/
What I realised was that I needed to just ignore the current log file which gets created daily, so using the above example (and changing the last written date to created date) I am able to ignore/skip the log thats in use.

  • Canon 6D Raw file issues. Help?

6D camera Raw files will not open with CS6. I know it needs the 7.3 Camera Raw to support these files while the CS6 only has the 7.0 camera raw. Help me! Is there any way of updating the Camera Raw? Or do I need to spend another 500$ on something that I just bought last year. This camera came out last year, why doesn't this program support these raw files.

Sure. ACR updates are free. Help --> Check for Updates is your friend.

  • Can Media Encoder batch update metadata on .mov files?

I discovered an issue with Audition creating a new starting time code on audio files extracted out of Canon 70D .mov files.   Details are here:  Re: Audition jumps time code forward on audio extracted from a .mov file
For what is worth, Premier Pro has no problem with these files.
The cause seems to be tied to the 70D putting the timecode information into the "Alternate Timecode" fields in the metadata instead of the primary timecode fields.
Can Media Encoder be set up to batch process a group of .mov files?
    I need it to:
         1.  Open the original .mov file.
         2.  Read the Alternate Timecode "Time Value" metadata field.
         3.  Store the read data in the Start Timecode "Time Value" field.
         4.  Read the Alternate Timecode "Time Format" metadata field
         5.  Store the read data in the Start Timecode "Time Format" field.
If necessary I can write a program to do this, but after 38 years of doing it I hate writing programs when I don't have to, especially for something like this.

And of course I left out the last part which is:
         6. Alternatively save the updated file to a new name by appending "-FixTC" to the name portion of the file name.extension.
         7. Open next file in batch list.
         Rinse, lather, repeat...

  • Trouble playing movie files off of Time Capsule

I have a bunch of videos stored on my time capsule that I want to play on my mini sitting under my tv. Quicktime stutters and stalls whether it's the original canon camera movie files or the compressed divx/xvid version. I thought with a new mini Mac using wireless N I would not have this problem. Are there any buffer settings I can set to give quicktime a little more room to breathe? Perhaps someone can recommend another video player that has a buffer setting for network files? Or a better way to compress/convert files so quicktime can play them smoothly? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Go back into QuickTime Player, Window menu, Show Movie Info and check the Format: field again - it should list the audio format as well. Perhaps its AC3 ?

  • Premier Pro CS3 crashes with Canon 7D HD files

I am just putting together a promo for a client, shot in HD on my Canon 7D. Everything went fine until 3 minutes into the project when Premier Pro CS3 refuses to render more than 1:30 minutes. (I already changed preferences to "Optimize rendering for Memory") Also the preview window is blanced out White and Black further down the project time line (even after changing back to:"Optimize rendering for Performance". Also now Premier starts crashing everytime I add a sound track. It looks as if the Canon 7D .mov files are too unwieldy for my new 12GB iMac 2,8 GHz Intel Core i7 (OSX 10.6.3).
I need some urgent help please, as my job in in jeopardy.
Should I convert my canon .mov files into H.264 first or what is the best way to work with these files?(using MPEG Streamclip)
Thanks very much for your help.

I am probably too late, but if you have Apple Pro Res 422 Codec available in MPEG Streamclip you should transcode your HD files to that and then bring it into Premiere. They will be easier to work with that way.
    Good Luck!

  • 5DMark2 MOV files. what preset do I use

    Hello,
I normally work with Final Cut with Canon 5DMark2 mov files. Now I want to edit in Premiere pro CS 4
because now the movies can be made with 25 frames insteat of 30 frames with the last firmware update.
Movies are made in HD 1920 -1080 -25 frames.
Question is what preset should I use in premiere. I think AVCHD 1080p25 is the best but I am not sure.
HDV fomat does not seem to be right because the pixel aspect ratio is 1.333.
What format is XDCAM EX 1080 25P (HQ) is this usefull or is it just for Sony camera's.
    thank's
    Richard

There are two elements here, but it seems that you have addressed both.
First, there is the Project settings, which should be NTSC (for NTSC-land, or PAL for PAL-land), DV in either Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9, depending on the DVD-Video, that you are using as your source.
Next, there is how you Get Media, and since you are doing that from VOB's, it will be the Harddrive Camera setting there. This will Import the MPEG-2 files, wrapped in the VOB container, with the correct Field Order.
Not sure why PrE is complaining about the Project, unless you chose Standard, and have Widescreen, or vice versa.
Now, you are not really Capturing, as that is from either an SD miniDV tape, or HDV, also from a nimiDV tape, but one shot in HD.
What you are doing is Importing the MPEG-2 file(s). It's the same if one had HD, like AVCHD, originally filmed to an SD, or other Flash Media card.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Issues with .mov files from Canon 5d mk3 - since Mavericks upgrade...

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded my OS to Mavericks, Premier Pro has been refusing to 'see' .mov files in my projects. In the timeline the bits of .mov footage are appearing as red blocks, in the preview pane you get 'Awaiting media' then the red block of doom.
So currently I'm having to convert footage from .mov to mp4v - then it seems to be OK. The upgrading to Mavericks could be a coincidence ... but before that I had no issues with PP.
    This is my system:
Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB
    Memory  12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
I would love some help/ideas on this - it's doing my head in having to convert .mov files, and having to back convert stuff in my existing projects ... please help!
