Canon 30D support in 10.4.6 and Aperture

10.4.6 adds support for the 30D in the OS (Preview) and it works with Aperture as well. Much Thanks Apple!!!

Hello Tyson.
For me it was a question of cost and reach.
I mainly do wildlife, so I like having the 1.6x crop factor so my 400mm becomes 680. I think this would be very important for surfing as well. However I bet you would find an extremely fast AF and the weather sealing of the 1D Mark II N very nice for sports. I would of loved to get one, but I could not justify the ~$3500. So i just upgaded my 10D and I love it so far.
Usually in the Canon forums on dpreview there are tons of people ready to share experiences and pictures. www.dpreview.com

  • Tiger and Canon 30D support

    Hi,
I am wondering when the new Canon 30D (RAW) will be supportet within the new OS ?
We know that Apple do periodically updates and implement new cameras into the OS - but I need to know if there already plans or timeframes ?
    Thanks and cheers

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have the Canon Digital Rebel XT (EOS 350D) which uses the .CR2 file format as well. Preview opens photos taken in .CR2 from the Rebel XT just fine. I know that the Canon EOS 30D uses .CR2 as well so I suppose it would just be a matter of Apple adding the EOS 30D profile. Maybe it can already open pictures taken by the EOS 30D... Keep in mind that this camera was announced just a month ago.
    Hope this helps.

  • Canon 30d and iphoto 6...will not import RAW

I'm a bit confused with iphoto 6, I know it supports Raw and my 30d... but everytime I import(or rather attept to import) RAW format it gives me an error message?????
however jpg. are no problem....what am I doing wrong?
    thanks

I have the same experience with Iphoto5, although Preview seems to be able to open the 39D .cr2 files. I don't think Adobe has released the patch for the Canon 30D which will allow it to handle Canon's version of Raw.

  • Canon 30D and iPhoto 6

I just switched to a Canon 30D from a Nikon D70S. When I plug the Canon in there is no recognition of it on my desktop screen. I can, however, import into iPhoto no problem but can't "safely" eject the camera. Do I just yank the USB wire when finished? With the Nikon there was a recognition on the desktop and I would be able to "eject" and then disconnect the camera. Thanks in advance for any answers! Cheers.

I am having the same problem with Iphoto not recognizing my camera, but I switched from Kodak to Nikon D70. I can import, but then just have to pull out USB cord. I get an error message that a device was improperly removed. Is there a way to get my D70 to be recognized.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Slight bands using Aperture and Canon 30D

    Hi guys,
I have some problems using Aperture, developing/converting RAW files from my Canon 30D.
Unfortunatly I have bands in my pictures. Means that there are slight differences in the brightness of the files, which will give horizontal bands.
We already tested these files in other RAW converters like Capture One, RAW developer and Adobe RAW Converter.
Only the Adobe RAW Converter doen't show these bands in the RAW file, so we think that these are probably are errors coming from the camera chip, which Adobe already knows and fixed by their converter files.
I only see these bands on my concert pictures using ISO400 to 800. This will probably explain the errors coming from the chip.
So my question is, does anyone of you saw the same things in your pictures?
I have and developed image where you can see the problem. I also can send you the original RAW file to check for the problem.

  • I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to allow wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to enable wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I’ve used several wireless printers with a 4510 and 5510 Jetpack and they all print just fine. The MHS890L does not support WPS. The WPS Wikipedia article briefly addresses the reason why you should not use WPS.  If you’re having trouble setting up your printer the manufacturer has a toll free support line to help you. Your Jetpack has the Wi-Fi Password on the bottom, under the battery, and or in the LED display.

  • DNG won't convert CR2 files from Canon 30D

I have installed Camera Raw 2.4 and also DNG converter.  But when I try to convert Canon 30D CR2 raw files the DNG converter simply says: The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files. Have also tried dragging an individual image onto the icon, as instructed, but get same message:  Can anyone perhaps help?  Thanks.

You should always use the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, currently the Adobe DNG Converter 5.3, available here:

  • Canon stopped supporting Canoscan 9950F on Apple, but still on Windows 8.  What can I do to fix this?

Upon upgrading to the latest Apple release, my Canon Canoscan 9950F no longer works.  After dialoging with the Canon representatives, the offered me a "discounted price" on new hardware.  They support Windows 8, but decided not to support Mountain Lion.  What can I do?  I have a $400 dollar paper-weight that I don't want to send to the landfill.
"Thank you for contacting Canon product support.  Due to the age of the scanner, Canon has decided not to support the CanoScan 9950F on 10.8.  For customers in this situation, Canon offers the Canon Loyalty Program.  This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system.  This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price."
Note - if I have to replace this, what is the best scanner to use for film and negatives?

Since you purchased Lion at some point, I wonder if the most cost effective move would be to spend under $100 for a new USB3 external drive, and install Lion and your 9950F scanner drivers there. Boot external when you want to scan. Drive visible to Mountain Lion desktop for shared files. The USB3 drive is backwards compatible with USB2. Western Digital has some portable Mac drives here. The 1TB is $99 at Best Buy in the U.S.
If you still have a machine running Lion, you can boot into Recovery and have it install onto the new USB3 external drive. Otherwise, it is another Lion download. Do not run the installer. Then you let Lion Diskmaker build you an external, bootable USB Lion installer stick.

  • Canon iR7105, iR-ADV9065 with GX300 server, and Mountain Lion

I am having no luck setting up two relatively recent, large and expensive Canon printers in Mountain Lion. The situations are different so there are two chapters to this wall of text.
This is a fresh Mac, so it didn't have any 'old' Canon driver trash on it. I have installed UFRII 2.43 and PS 3.60 from Canon and restarted.
    The iR7105
The iR7105 doesn't show up automatically in the Print & Scan add-printer menus. No problem; I go to IP, using LPD, and set it up there. (LPD access is enabled in the printer.) After that, I have tried setting it up with each of three drivers: a nondescript Canon iR7086-7105, Canon iR7086-7105 PS (US), and Canon iR7086-7105 UFR II (US).
The nondescript driver results in no setup options for the printer, so I know there's  a problem. This is, however, the closest to a successful setup I have so far. In the print dialog I get finishing options that seem promising, including for our saddle finisher. However, the saddle finisher doesn't engage when I send the print job -- I have to assume this is because the print driver doesn't have a setup where I can tell it what model of  finisher it needs to talk to? Further, there are no options for printing to the printer's Mail Boxes, so I can't just send a file there and fix up the saddle stitch on the printer directly (a workaround we've used with various jobs in the past). However, after the job has run, I CAN go into Command Workstation 5.4.1.25 and adjust the settings on the job there, and then get it to run through the saddle finisher (or to the Mail Boxes). This is the best I have so far, but it's not very good.
So I try to set up the PS driver. Now I get setup options and I can select the saddle finisher model. I also get a popup asking about unidirectional or bidirectional; I choose bidirectional because the printer is on a network. Also, setting it to unidirectional doesn't change what happens next:  when I do send the print job, the printer cheerfully spits out a dozen or more pages of single-line garbage instead of what I sent to print.
On to the UFR II driver. Again I get setup options as expected when I set up the printer. Again, the print options are exactly what I expect as well. Unfortunately, the print job doesn't go through: I get an error that says, "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information." Well, the printer is pretty certainly connected, based on the performances above. It's also supported, if Canon's suggesting I should download and use this driver is any indication. Finally, Printer Utility gets printer information that looks quite accurate. Nevertheless, after all of that, actual attempts to print still get the UFR II Printer Driver error message, and no prints.
The iR-ADV9065 and its GX300V2.0US server
After installing all the Canon drivers mentioned above, the print server (Canon iR-ADV C9000s GX300V2.0US) shows up in the '+' drop-down in Print & Scan. Great, right?! I can configure the server directly and control the printer that way! Yay!
Nope. I get a warning: "Some of the software for the printer is missing. You may have to reinstall the software to be able to successfully print." I click Continue, since that's an option, and then I get "Setting up 'Canon iR-ADV C9000s GX300V2.0US...' The software for the printer was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the software from the manufacturer." This time there is no option except Cancel.
What would be awesome now would be to know what software I need to reinstall. Since I just installed the UFRII and the PS software on a fresh Mac, I'm not sure what's missing.
So, back to manually installing with the IP address. From this point forward the results mimic those above, with variations for the printer's specific capabilities. The best driver option is still the non-PS, non-UFR version, and that 'best' option still won't control the finishing units. I must go through Command WorkStation to accomplish that.
    Bottom Line
Because I am so close to having these set up properly, but not quite, I feel like I must be doing something wrong. Something small and subtle, probably, but hey, maybe it's something big and glaring! Can anyone help?

The Canon print controllers do not support Bonjour, so using IP > LPD as you have done is the correct procedure.

There's no problem. This is how the PPD works on 10.8. For older versions of PPD it was necessary to configure the options. But with the latest versions of PPD, it is assumed that all options are available, even when the machine may not have them or supports them.

It is not a lack of being able to set what finisher you have installed. You just cannot saddle-finish with the PPD. This is only supported with the full driver, such as the UFR2 or PS, because you need the additional plugins that are included with these full drivers to get the additional functions.

Again, this is due to the lack of a plugin to support the submission to the mailbox. So it is another limitation of the PPD.
And with you sending the print job to the mailbox in the past, you would have been using a full driver - not the PPD - to achieve this.

If you can connect to the iR7105 with Command Workstation, then you must have a Fiery connected to it, such as the imagePASS-S2. So this would explain why the UFR2 and Canon PS v3.60 driver did not work. The Fiery does not support either driver. They are for the iR7105 that is using its internal Canon controller. Not the optional imagePASS (Fiery).
Now the issue for you with the imagePASS-S2 is that no 10.8 driver exists - the iR7105 was released in mid 2006. So you will have to use the Fiery Express driver, which has limited functions but it is better than using the Generic Postscript driver.

Like the iR7105 with the Fiery attached, the GX300 connected to the ADV C9065 does not support the UFR2 or PS v3.60 driver. But at least there is a 10.8 driver available for this model. Here is a link to the GX300 page from Canon USA.
Now with this driver installed you can add it by selecting the "Canon iR-ADV C9000s GX300V2.0US" that appears in the Default Add Printer view (and the Nearby Printers window). The driver should be automatically found by the Mac, meaning the Use menu will be set to the correct driver. This will let you print and use most finishing features of the iR ADV C9065.
Hope the above helps you. Reply if you need more info.

  • Canon 7D support, when?

When can we expect a release for the full support of the Canon 7D RAW files?
As a software developer I don't understand why Adobe doesn't work with Canon/Nikon/Sony etc to support any new camera before it gets released?
    Thank you,

    ChodTheWacko wrote:
Unless the CR2 format is finalized for a camera, it doesn't benefit anyone for Canon to release specs for it.
However, once the camera is released, It is surprising that Canon isn't more open about it.  Not having
ideal day one support is unfortunate but I suppose unavoidable.  But possibly never getting it at all is just ...... odd.
No...it's typical. You don't understand the timing of these things. While Canon may (or may not) provide Adobe a preproduction camera or sample files, clearly Adobe can't base final work on preproduction models. Things change in cameras, firmware and files formats right up to the last moment. So, unless Canon goes out of their way to provide Adobe one of the first cameras in-country to test against, Adobe CAN'T even START working on decoding the raw files and supporting the camera till the camera ships...
Depending on when that may fall in the already set schedule for new Camera Raw versions (to support yet even MORE new cameras) the wait for new camera buyers could be a couple of months...
I know for a fact the Camera Raw engineers try very hard to get new camera support in as soon as possible–even going to the extent of putting in unofficial and preliminary support such as with the Canon 7D. But the bottom line is that until the camera makers change either the way they release cameras and new file formats, there will be a delay between the release of a new camera and 3rd party support for that camera.
And whining about it (and claiming because one happens to be a software engineer that the situation doesn't make sense) does absolutely ZERO to resolve the issue. The ACR engineers aren't gonna be able to get this stuff done quicker than what they are already doing...
There is a real good solution already out there. DNG If the camera makers offered DNG as a file format option, new cameras would automatically get Camera Raw support out of the box without any time delay between camera release and Camera Raw updates.
So, if you want to have any impact in the current situation, I suggest you all go complain to Canon, Nikon and the like who continue to spawn off new undocumented, proprietary raw file formats for each and every new camera–which is the root problem of this whole situation...
But do everybody the favor to learn about and fully comprehend the situation before you lay the blame at Adobe's doorstep.

  • IPhoto choking on  canon 30D raw files

Tried to run a pro shoot through iPhoto but it appears to be choking on Canon 30D raw files (.cr2 extension). I'm getting an assortment of odd problems (missing or oddly rendered images, saves that never finish, sliders that take 30 seconds to move; times when moving the white balance slider has no visible impact on the photo) that basically have left me scratching my head about iPhoto (at least with Canon 30D raw). I was using features like Duplicate and saving edited raw files as TIFF but those are all documented features and so I would expect them to work properly.
Is anyone successfully using iPhoto with 30D raw files?
I have Aperture and it works great with the same set of raw files but iPhoto is so quick and easy (which saves time but also means that it's easier to get other team members involved in the workflow) that it's tempting to use it at least as the front-end for selects and preliminary development. Or maybe iPhoto is just for jpegs at the end of the day even though it does seem to have a fairly capable raw converter?

Tried to use with Lieca Raw also errors.

  • Why does Canon NOT support the Canon Utilities software?

The Canon Map Utility software can not detect my Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2.  Over the phone, Canon "Customer Support" had me uninstall all 10 Canon Utilities that I had previously installed, and then let me install only 8 older versions of Canon Utilities.  And, the Canon Map Utility software STILL could not detect my Canon GP-E2.
Why doesn't Canon have ANYONE who knows the Canon Utility software?  The first support rep had NEVER used any of the software!  And the second support rep, whom I was transfered to by a Supervisor who told me that this was the most experienced support person for the software, has only used the software ONCE!

When I use the GPS-E2 on my camera, the pictures have are geotagged.  It's when I try to use the GPS log that Map Utility has a problem.  I like the idea of recording where I went, not just where each picture was taken.  That way, I can see where I found nothing to take pictures of.
