Canon 400D RAW import issue

I have recently upgraded to Vista and Lightroom 3.1 and now I am having a problem importing RAW files directly from my canon 400D. I have set the auto importer to recognize a memory card, and lightroom starts when I activate my camera, but for some reason it tells me that there are no files to import. This is the same if I manually select my 400D's CF folder. I can see the files in windows explorer, but Lightroom will no longer recognize them.
Adobe Photo downloader lightroom 3.0 is running and I have no problem importing Photos once I have copied the files from the CF card to a hard drive manually, but it really is a pain not to be able so select individual RAW files or batches through lightroom. I do not have a memory card reader!
All of these processes were functioning with Lightroom 2.0.
Anyone know of a fix or a workaround?

Hahaha, yeah, you are right, I was writing the last post in a rush before leaving the house......I do indeed mean 1.2 an 1.3...and as stated I do not have a card reader, and to be honest I really dont think I should have to purchase another piece of hardware (no matter how cheap) to have this software run correctly.
Thank you for your reply, but I am still looking for a fix or workaround to download directly from the camera. This is something that I have had work before. Are Adobe aware of this, is there any fix planned?

  • Canon CR2 RAW import issue

I just got a Canon 7D and I shoot in RAW, which with this model is CR2. I can see the pics fine in finder and I can open them in Photoshop CS4, but not in iPhoto. I use iPhoto to organize all of my pictures and would love to keep it that way.
Is iPhoto 8.1 incapable of recognizing the CR2 format?
    Gracias

    Hi TD,
sorry for late reply - I was out a couple of days. My latest version of Digital Camera Raw update is 2.6. Even on the apple downloads page (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/applicationupdates/indexabc3.html) I don't see a 2.7 version nor would auto-update propose a missing update. Am I missing something here?
Yes, I am importing directly from my camera using USB cable via USB hub.

  • Canon 400d +raw(cr2) import(aperture 1.5)

    hello,
i bought the new canon 400d a few days ago. i updated to aperture 1.5 a few minutes ago. does anyone now whats wrong with cr2-raw-images? aperture is telling me, that cr2 is not a supported format. (lightroom does cr2 by the way)
    thx

I own a new XTi also. OS 10.4.8 does not yet support that camera's RAW files. CR2 files may have the same extensions but they are different for each different sensor. The 400d/XTi has a different sensor than the XT/350d. Unfortunately, the timing of Canon's release must have been after Apple had finalized the RAW camera updates for the recent update.
The RAW file support on Macs is at the OS level, not within Aperture or iPhoto. Therefore, it doesn't matter whether you have Aperture 1.1 or 1.5. Hopefully, Canon will get Apple to update soon or someone will write a hack that provides the translation.
Kind of stinks at this point. The Nikon D80 folks are in the same situation. How Lightroom has it this soon beats me.

  • Support Canon 400D RAW

When is the Aperture to support the raw file of the Canon 400D?
Mac Pro 2.66Hz with 3G Ram, MacBook, Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4)

One way around it would be to convert to Adobe DNG format before bringing in to aperture.
actually, no... the DNG format more or less produces something akin to a compressed TIFF and wraps it into a DNG file. The header conforms to the (DNG) standard, but the actual image in the file does not - there simply isn't any such standard.
Thus, if your camera is not supported by Apple, you won't be able to open a DNG converted file from that camera in Aperture, either. I think you can use this trick to overcome the RAW.plist (as e.g. with the Digital Rebel / Canon 350 - same camera, 2 names), but you can't use it to work with new formats that have not yet made their way into the MacOS's depths.
The main advantage of DNG as far as I understand is that it compresses raw images to a more manageable size. However, to open the file, the software still needs to know about your raw format.

  • Canon S100 RAW color issues

Hello, all. I created a thread with this similar issue a few months ago but never really got it resolved. Instead of reviving an old thread, I decided to just recreate it with updated information.
I have the new Canon S100 and I am having an issue with how the RAW files appear in Lightroom.
I import the photos into a Lightroom catalog and they all look fine within the importer window (which shows essentially what a JPEG would look like), but when I click on the photo in Library or Develop, once the photo finishes loading, the red saturation goes through the roof.
Any photo that already had a little bit of warmth to it exploded with red.
Whereas any photo taken in normal light gains a little more warmth and exposure.
Here are a couple examples of the JPEG preview (also how it looks in-camera) compared with what the RAW looks like once it's been loaded in Lightroom. (The above or left photo is the “normal” version, the bottom/2nd image is the RAW)
It’s sort of difficult to tell with some of the photos by looking at them side-by-side. I also have the individual photos if you want to A/B them to see the changes that are actually occurring.
There are no presets being applied upon import.
The only solution I've found is to convert them all into JPEGs using Canon's software (which does not alter the images as seen above), and edit them in Lightroom as JPEGs, but that completely eliminates the point of buying a camera that is capable of shooting in RAW.
I’ve been having this issue since the S100 first came out (when I purchased it) with Lightroom 3.6RC and was told that it would be fixed in Lightroom 3.6… which it wasn’t… nor was it fixed in Lightroom 4.
I decided to just go ahead and convert all my photos to JPEGs until I found a fix to this so I could at least have my photos (I had photos from my anniversary with my girlfriend in November that I couldn’t do anything with so I was sick of waiting).
I figured I’d wait till more people had the camera, expecting this issue to be more widespread… but now that a lot of people have the S100, I’ve looked around and found no other instances of this happening… so I’m worried it’s something on my end.
I have a 2008 13” MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.3 and I have the latest version of Lightroom (4.0) and Camera Raw (7.0) installed. I’ve tried the photos in Photoshop CS5 and it does the same thing. When this first happened back in December I tried the photos in Aperture as well and it did the same thing.
The only software that seems to recognize the true color of the photos is Canon’s horrible “professional editing” software.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Patrick

I recently bought an S100 and encountered the same problem. With Camera Standard in Lightroom, Reds are too bright, greens are shifted towards yellow, and some yellows are shifted towards orange.
I have been using Lightroom since the beta, with different cameras from different manufacturers. The camera profiles for the S100 are the worst I have experienced by far. The profiles, particularly all of the profiles that start with "Camera," do not fit this camera. I believe somebody made a mistake. It could have been someone at Canon, it could have been someone at Adobe. I don't expect this mistake to be fixed, or even acknowledged.
Moving on, here is my workaround:
Start with the Powershot S110 Camera Standard profile.
Use dcpTool to decompile the profile.
Open the decompiled profile in a text editor.
At the top, change the name to S110 Standard.
At the bottom, set the baseline exposure offset to zero.
At the bottom, change the model restriction from S110 to S100
Use dcpTool to compile the modified profile. Give the resulting .dcp file a different name than the original.
Put the new .dcp file in the appropriate directory, open Lightroom and apply the S110 Standard profile to your S100 images.
    dcpTool is here:
    http://dcptool.sourceforge.net/Introduction.html
This hacked S110 profile gets rid of the blazing reds. It does have some problems with yellows and greens. I solve this in Lightroom by using +20 in Camera Calibration: Green Primary: Hue. I haven't had my camera very long, and I may end up making other adjustments in Lightroom. But using the Powershot S110 Camera Standard profile seems like the best place to start.
I tried using Adobe's DNG Profile Editor app on the S110 "Camera" profiles, but did not get good results. From what others have posted on Adobe's forums, this is to be expected. A lot of the "Camera" profiles are too complicated for DNG Profile Editor to work well on. Both the S100 and S110 Camera Standard profiles have over 23,000 lines of code when decompiled!
I also tried dcpTool (and DNG Profile Editor) with some of the other S series and G series profiles, without finding anything that works better than the S110 Camera Standard profile.

  • Canon 400D RAW & Image Capture & raw image update - Fail

I got my macbook pro about a month ago and of course was anxious to try out my camera ( Canon EOS 400D). I'm using RAW images. It worked fine. No problems.
But then comes the update a week or two ago. Of course I download it, it's an update... What could go wrong . Then, today, I connect my camera again to download some photos I took. Image capture launches as usual, but what happens when I try to download (some/all, no difference) the photos from the camera? Nothing! The program hangs up and Force Quite Applications says (Not Responding).
Well, I'd try with iPhoto, but no success, because the camera is no longer recognized. I reboot the computer and try again. Yippee! The camera is recognized again, but there is no success with downloading the images. Actually iPhoto doesn't even show the images in camera.
What to do? Anyone's got the same problem? Can I 'downdate' the system to get rid of the latest RAW update?
I do not own a memorycard reader because this method has been working always until today.
Oh yes, the camera is ok, because it works flawlessly with Windows XP and Vista.

I use Adobe Bridge + Photoshop to process RAW images. I really don't think the only answer to get by this problem is to buy more equipment, it's not the right way. There's a bug in OS and it should be fixed .
Anyway, I'm going to get the card reader, but I'm still waiting for this problem to be fixed some time in the future. If not for me, but for the new Apple users that have got used to connecting the USB-cord between computer and camera and everything works fluenty after that.

  • Nikon D3100 Raw Import Issues

I am unable to import raw files from a Nikon D3100 to iPhoto 6 (using OS X 10.6.8).  The error message is "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
Any idea how to resolve this?

The camera model itself has been supported snce Lightroom 3.3 so there should be no issues with LR itself

Have you tried installing LR3.6 on the Lenovo?

  • Raw import issue

Recently I had an issue with Aperture not recognizing my Ricoh GR Digital II's RAW files. The fix was to downgrade from Digital Camera Raw 2.3 back to 2.2. Now, after I installed OS X 10.5.6 the problem is back!
-No, I did not accidentally install 2.3 again, I unchecked the box before installing 10.5.6.

    Hi,
I ran into the same thing. Found a fix on another discussion board: download and install this apple update:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/DigitalCamera_Raw_Compatibility_Update_24
Although my camera was not listed as one of the new supported cameras, the update fixed all of the import problems I was running into.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sony NEX 6 RAW import issues with Lightroom 4.3RC or 4.2

Hi all, having a problem with importing images from my Nex 6 or SD card. The image was taken using the 16-50 Sony Kit lens
Lightroom copies the images (RAW) files without a problem. However within lightroom the images get distorted as shown below. I have disabled all options such as lens or camera correction.
The exact same thing happens when I import the file in photoshop CS5 after converting it using DNG Converter.
The original file within the sony software is like this.

What you are seeing in LR is the actual lens-distortion recorded on the sensor.  What you’re seeing in the camera JPG is a in-camera-corrected image.  Adobe hasn’t gotten around to make a lens profile for your NEX-7 16-50 lens; however, there is one available from the user-community you can retrieve with the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader:

  • Canon 400d raw files to Elements 5.0

I have searched (being new to this forum) and have been unable to find the definitive answer as to why I cannot transfer RAW files from my 400d into Elements 5.0.
I am really not PC literate, so any advice needs to be in basic terms! I have downloaded the latest plug-in and pasted it into the plug-in folder in accordance with step by step intructions, but this has made no difference.
I am not new to using my DSLR, but this is the first time I have shot in RAW and not being able to even view the files, never mind work with them, is somewhat frustrating.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you're on windows, use AcrChecker to generate a list of your acr plugin
locations. If the problem is not obvious from the output, click on the
copy button, and post it here for others to look at.
    AcrChecker is a free download:

  • Canon 6D Raw file issues. Help?

6D camera Raw files will not open with CS6. I know it needs the 7.3 Camera Raw to support these files while the CS6 only has the 7.0 camera raw. Help me! Is there any way of updating the Camera Raw? Or do I need to spend another 500$ on something that I just bought last year. This camera came out last year, why doesn't this program support these raw files.

Sure. ACR updates are free. Help --> Check for Updates is your friend.

  • Canon c100 audio import issue

    Hallo,
I have a new Canon C100 , and I am shooting with 2 microphones , two different audio sources ( actors) and I record my video on a sd card.
On this sd card there is an avchd file that within the inport function on fcprox will be ingested .
I see and hear everything . OK.
When I move the ingested file in the timeline , I have just one audio track.
Even if I choose to put the file in "dual mono" , at the end I have always just one audio track.
What I am missing / doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Michele

Yes , Option-Control-S is to deactivate it and Control-S is to activate it.
Anyway, this is what I have at the end.

  • Catalogue Import Issues

    Hi everyone;
I'm running Mac OSX 10.5 / Lightroom 2.2/ Photoshop CS3 on both my MacBook and iMac.
Using Lightroom, I'm trying to export a catalogue with CR2 (Raw) images from my MacBook and import that catalogue onto my iMac.
It's importing the CR2 (Raw) images taken with my Canon 400D, but not the ones from my Canon 5D. In LightRoom> About Lightroom - it shows Camera Raw 5.2.
    Can someone please help? Thanks,
    - Dam

Hi John and thanks for taking the time to reply.
Yes, on my MacBook> Lightroom> Select all images/ folder> Export as Catalogue (w/ images).
On my iMac> Import from catalogue> Add to catalogue and move images to new location (at this point only the Canon 400D raw files are highlighted- the Canon 5D raw files are greyed out). The 400D files are imported, and then I'm told the catalogue could not be imported due to an unknown error. Upon further review- that's when I can see that ALL the 400D files were imported and NONE of the 5D ones were.
I'm thinking this points towards some RAW file handling plug-in?

  • Can't import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6

unable to import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6 (Mac OS-X (10.5.8) - any ideas?

You'll need to install the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.5 - Search the Support/Downloads site for that.
It still may not work. Iphoto 6 is an elderly piece of software now and predates your camera by several years. If it doesn't work you'll need to update to iPhoto 09 or later.

  • Import screen cannot enlarge preview thumbnail from Canon G15 raw CR2 file

Lightroom 4.3 import screen does not seem to be able to enlarge for better viewing  the preview thumbnail from a Canon G15 raw CR2 file?

    HI,
I do not know the answer, but I would expect, that Lr only displays the embeded jpeg preview of your raw files. And I think, that the previews are small. You can use exiftool , exiftoolgui to see what's the dimension of your previews.
