Canon 5D Mark II Import Problem

Using Canon Utility to import, appears to not recognize the camera ,but, does work with a Sony Camcorder HXR-NX30P using Windows import for Adobe CS5.5.2. USB 2 Cabling has been checked for stills..
Any ideas ?

Well it worked, I never thought of Importing the images still or video  directly  into the C ; drive pictures.
i still cannot understand why it worked on the Dell Precision  M6600 but not the Dell Precision T5500
The Sony HXR-NX30P had no problems , it is automatically Imported by Windows.
Many thanks.

  • Aperture and Canon 5D mark II import problem: copyright and author metadata

After importing RAW images to Aperture, I missing my name and copyright info in metadata, everything els is there; lens, focal length, shutter sped... I try several methods from camera direct, from memory card, using EOS software to HD and to Aperture. Nothing works. Did anybody have same problem?

    Ah. I didn't know that.
This type of information is defined typically in IPTC, not EXIF. Aperture probably ignores those EXIF fields; in general if it gets EXIF data it doesn't understand, I think it ignores it.
As to your other comment about making this data unmodifiable -- it's not really possible to make it immutable. EXIF in general is a lot harder to modify than IPTC, but unless the file is encrypted and self-checksumming, a person with a sector editor (or an application designed to change EXIF) will get around this.
I don't think there's yet a standard way to really "protect" full-sized image files, at least for JPEG or TIFF files.

  • Canon 5D Mark III RAW Problem

Hi Guys. My version of LR5 has stopped recognising my Canon 5D Mark III's RAW files on import - any ideas? Cheers - Tom

    Stopped recognising?
Exactly what happens when you try to import the photos from your 5D Mark III? If there is an error message, please quote it word-for-word.

  • Canon 7D Mark II GPS Problem

Tried the GPS on a new 7D Mark II. The GPS symbol just kept blinking...did not connect.  I tried it again and let it blink for an hour...no connect.  I was wearing a Garmin GPS watch...it connected in about 3 minutes so I know there are satellites up there.
Canon said the GPS was defective, exchange the camera. I did that and when I left the camera shop, I turned GPS on...it connected on less than one minute. Ah, I said, probelm solved...but
Today I took Mark II for another walk, and guess what, the GPS symbol blinked but did not connect  Disabled and tried again several times...no connect.
Did I get two faulty cameras...or are others also having GPS no connect problems with the Mark II???
    Richard M, NYC

    Hi richlion!
    Thank you for the post.
Even when signal acquisition conditions are good, it can still take up to over 60 seconds to acquire a conneciton to the GPS satellite after you enable the GPS.  Until it makes the connection, the GPS indicator on the LCD will blink.  Once it is solid, it has made the connection and you can now shoot.

  • Canon 5D Mark III Jpeg problem

Received my new 5D Mark iii today. Pretty happy so far however I have noticed a strange issue with Apple Aperture when viewing jpegs from the 5d mark iii. I noticed a white line at the top of the frame or the left of the frame on vertical shots. It is more noticeable in full screen mode in Aperture.
I opened the jpegs in PS, Preview, DPP and the Finder and none of them show this white edge line.
The other odd thing is if I export a jpeg of one of these out of Aperture and then load the exported file the white edge line switches sides of the image. Also I noticed if I save a jpeg version out of PS and then import that into Aperture I do not see the white edge line.
I tried shots using multiple lenses as well with the same result.
Seems like Aperture has some issue with 5d mark iii jpegs. Don't think it is the camera since PS, DPP and Preview don't show the same issue.
Wondering if others have noticed this same problem?

Here is another example. This one I exported to Smugmug from Aperture and no white edge in the Smugmug posting. Definitely seems to be some wierd Aperture problem.

  • Canon Elura 85 clip import problem

My school just purchased three new Canon Elura 85 camcorders. The problem we are having is that everything imports as one clip. iMovie does not automatically seperate the pauses in recording into different clips. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a setting we need to change in iMovie or on the cameras? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Did you happen to timecode the tape before you recorded any footage? We have a few 85's and they break the clips up.

  • Canon 5D MII raw import problems in LR3

My installation of LR3 will not import .CR2 raw files from the Canon 5D MII. My LR2 imports fine. What am I missing?

Are you importing them from a card reader, camera via cable, or from the hard drive?
If one of the first two, just try copying them to the hard drive and seeing if they'll import that way.  If they do, it's a clue as to why.

  • Canon Vixia HF 200 import problem

I am using one of these at school and i can not get it to Log and Transfer a clip that is over 5 minutes long. This didn't kill the project I was doing (a DVD of the school play) because i had a DV camcorder going also, but if i shoot something over 5 minutes on this Canon i would like to be able to use it in the future.
Does anyone have any idea how to get this video to import without failing?

My Final Cut Pro is version 6.0.6. My scratch disk is 500GB external Seagate in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) formating. And my computer is a iMac Mac OS X (10.5.8) 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I am not sure what the scratch disc settings are I may be able to check by the end of the day.

  • Canon camcorder taped video importing problem

I recently upgraded to Tiger from Panther. Before the upgrade, I was able to import video from the tape and memory card in my Canon ZR85 camcorder. Since the upgrade, I can only import from the memory card. I've done all the troubleshooting from iMovie HD help, and am wondering if I should just install the previous version of iMovie (not HD) to have the capability to import the video on tape again or if there is a workaround. Anyone?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

that would be a fine workaround....
however it's puzzling why you can't import from a DV tape at all...
you should be able to do that without a hitch...

  • Problems importing from Compact Flash cards shot on Canon 5D Mark ll

On my first attempt at importing footage from the Canon 5D Mark ll, but I've not been able to do so. I'm using FCP 7 and I downloaded the Canon Log & Transfer plug-in. I followed the instructions on Canon's website exactly, but when I get to the stage where I need to pick a preference and try to pick 'Canon EOS,' when I click 'OK,' nothing happens. The clips just don't show up.
I know the clips are there as I can view them on the 5D and I was able to import them automatically into Aperture. However, I don't know how to do the necessary transcoding once they're imported into Aperture instead of FCP.
Anything obvious that I may be doing wrong?

Are you importing them directly from the camera card or from Aperture?
If from Aperture I had a similar problem with the 5D movies after I had imported them into Aperture and deleted everything off my card (I presume this is what you may have done)
The problem is that you need the associated .THM files that are created when you shoot a video on the 5d. These are the same name as the movie file but with the THM extension rather than .MOV.
    What I did was:
Create a folder structure on your hard drive that mirrors the structure on your camera:- ie
    DCIM
    EOS5D
Export all your .mov files from A3 into the EOS5D folder.
You then need to recreate a THM file for each of the .mov files and they have to have exactly the same name apart from the extension.
You can simply copy a THM file from your camera card and then just rename it. Repeat the process for each .mob file
Once you have done that you should be able to find the files, point to the DCIM folder however.
I had to do 270 of them and created a work flow in Automator to make it a bit faster.
However as the the metadata for the clip is contained in the THM file you will lose all that.
Trick is in the future to ensure that you don't rely on A3 for importing your movie files if you want to get them into FCP (or other software I presume). Do an exact copy of the card file structure and files onto your HD iof you want to import later.

  • Lightroom 4.2 will not import from Canon 5D Mark III

When trying to import photos from my Canon 5D Mark III into Lightroom 4.2, the import usually freezes up at some arbitrary point.  It will either crash lightroom altogether, or it will have a message saying "could not import all files, files could not be read."  (something along those lines.)
I am using a 1 year old iMac with a 1 TB HD.  I import directly onto that hard drive.  Lightroom has never had an issue importing.  My previous camera was a Canon EOS T1i.  The problems started when I purchased my 5D Mark III.  Images from my T1i, in fact, still import fine with no issues.  I am running OS X version 10.7.5.  My compact flash card is brand new, a Lexar 1000x.  This question/issue may have been answered elsewhere, and if so I apologize, for i could not locate it.  I have seen some suggesting it may be a hard drive issue, however, the evidence points to the 5D Mark III not playing well with LR 4.2.  (T1i images still import fine.)

Here's a post concerning 5D MKIII file corruption, which may also be due to a camera malfucntion. Yes, there could be something wrong with your camera.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4882852#4882852
    SUGGESTION:
Install the Canon EOS Utility that came with your camera. Also check for an updated version of the EOS Utility after the install. You need to install from the CD first before you can install any updates.
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_5d_mark_iii#Driver sAndSoftware
If the EOS Utility can download the CR2 files to your hard drive, then your camera is not defective.

  • Canon 5D Mark ii Memory Card/CF Problem - Overwriting pic

    Hello,
I have had my Canon 5D Mark ii for a year and a half now and love it. However, from time to time I have issues with the memory card/ memory card reader and it is really acting up right now.  I have tried a couple of different memory cards, so I don't believe that the actual card is the issue.  What happens is that the first pic comes out fine and then the next picture overwrites the one I just took and has a pink striped part through part of the pic.  If I take a third pic it will overwrite it again and the whole pic will be very washed out and have that same pink strip through it.  The only thing that works is taking out the memory card and putting it back in. I'm missing lots of pics lately though!  See below for pic examples.  In the second pic you can see the pink strip at the top.  Any ideas as to what the problem could be? We are going to the beach in a few weeks and I really want my camera to work! Thanks!!! ~ Stacie

    Stacie,
Almost always things like this are the fault of the CF card but not entirely.  The things you need to know and do are....
Buy top quality cards like Snadisk or Lexar.  Get them from known good retailers. Usually 4GB, 8BG or 16GB is best.
Only format the CF card with the camera, never with a computer.  Format the CF card before each important shoot.
    Have spares.
Another important factor is to set the camera back to factory defaults whenever you see someting you don't know how it happened!
You may want to reinstall your camera's firmware and this is a good time to make sure it is the latest from Canon.
Go to the 5D Mk II web page.
And card readers go bad.  Get a new one.  They are cheap.  Even the USB port in your computer can fail so try a different port or another computer.
It is also possibilt that one or two of the very tiny pins in the CF card slot have been bent over.  Use a flash light to see it they are all upright.
I use the entire line of 5D's and they are truly great cameras.  You will love it.

I've tried changing USB ports, switching the camera on and off, trying a different USB cord, tried a different camera, but nothing. Please help! This problem only started a few days ago on lightroom 3.6, upgraded to 5.5, but still not working. Thanks.

Can you see the Canon EOS camera and image files using Windows Explorer? If not disconnect the camera, close all applications' shutdown Windows, and TURN OFF the power to your system and ALL connected devices. Disconnect all phones, iPads, and any other USB devices and restart your system.
Retry Windows Explorer and see if your camera is showing. If so try LR import again.

  • Canon 5D Mark 2  Raw Files wont import.

My Friend has a Canon 5d Mark 2 and the files will not import. it says it's an unrecognized format.
now when I shoot with my Canon rebel Xti in raw it will import them. does anybody know if apple will support the canon 5d mark 2 raw files in iPhoto? Or is there something i did not check in prefs to help import?

Hi. I've got a slightly different problem. I've just upgraded from Canon 20D to 5D and although the RAW files and JPEGs DO both import, the RAW files are no longer labelled 'CR' with the image number. There's just an image number, which duplicates the JPEG file number alongside. I've tried to find a setting in iPhoto9 prefs and also on the camera to add the CR suffix, but have not resolved this. I would like the RAWs to import with the CR tag, as with the 20D. Am I missing something...?!

  • Importing canon 5d mark 11 directly into fcpx

has anyone successfuly imported directly from the canon 5d mark 11 into final cut pro x , the apple site suggests this is not compatible???

    Hi Tom,
I searched FCPX and compatible cameras t said it might not recognise, though i will re check to ensure if it was FCP X?
I have tried opening FCPX and selecting the camera icon on the interface above the projects library, but it does not recognise my camera canon 5d mark II , i then selected file>import>files i cant see any reference to camera, however iphoto recognises my camera as a device and is ready to import directly to iphoto and from there it imports to imovie then from there to fcpX, I'm going in on the weekend to see the Apple guys hopefully they can sought out the problem, how are you achieving the import from your camera to FCPX
