Canon 5D Mark II support on FCP 7?

Anyone know if there is support for the Canon 5D Mark II h.264 native files on the new FCP?
I've looked at the new features and they claim it supports native file editing, but not specifically the Canon 5D. Thanks for any info.

Some people have worked with Canon 5D Mark II H.264 footage "natively" even with the previous version of FCP, but you don't get real-time performance.
The new lower bandwidth ProRes codecs are great here. ProRes 422 (Proxy) would be approximately the same data rate as the original, but without temporal compression so in some places there may be quality tradeoffs.
For optimal quality use ProRes 422 (LT) - it's 3x the bandwidth but still fairly lightweight, and can be edited natively with real time effects.
Using any higher quality ProRes options is unnecessary if your sequence does not include higher bandwidth sources.

  • Canon 5D Mark II footage in FCP

Does anybody edit Canon 5D Mark II footage with FCP? My playback stops at every blade cut or in the end of the clip for a second before resumes the next clip ... pretty annoying. All the other HD camera footage plays just fine.
    Help!
    Jarmo

I can only covet your camera, but I happen to have a FCP tutorial for the Mark II. It says do this:
    1. Make sure you have latest MacOS (10.5.6 or highter), Quicktime (7.6 or higher), and FCP (6.0.5 or higher). And of course an Intel-based Mac (2.8 Ghz recommended). You may still get some stutter during playback with multiple layers of video, audio, and transitions/filters. But output will be OK.
    2. Make a Mark II pre-set as follows (one day FCP will include one, sigh):
    Select Audio/Video Settings.
select Sequence Presets. Select this one to duplicate and modify: DV NTSC 48 kHz.
Pull down Aspect Ratio and select HDTV 1080 i (16:9). that is is really correct but 1080p is not a choice but you will not convert to interlaced anyway.
Change *Pixel Aspect Ratio* to SQUARE. Do NOT check Anamorphic 16:9
    Select *Field Dominance* Upper(Odd)
    *Editing Time base*: select 30
    *Timecode Path*: 30 Non-Drop Frame
    Compressor: H.264
    *Audio Settings*:
Rate: 44 kHz, Depth: 16-bit, Config: Cannel Grouped
Under SUMMARY tab in Audio/Video Settings:
(make sure Sequence Preset shows name of the one you just made)
    Capture Preset: Generic Capture Template
    Device Control: Non-controllable device
    Video Playback: none
    Audio Playback: default
Click Create Easy Setup (put in your Mark II name) and click Create
    Enable verification tab: checked
NOW when you begin a new project, go to Easy Setup and pull down your newly-created Mark II preset. The tutorial I got this from said to be sure you create a NEW project or some default presets may still be in play.
You may need TRANSCODING if your system still struggles with the above.
Convert H.264 to a managable HD codec (Apple ProRes 422 or 422 (HQ) or DVCPRO HD 1080p30)
I assume you would know the steps doing this, but if not, let me know.
Would really like to know if this works for you. Have the Mark II on a short list of possibilities for a new camera.
    Good luck!

  • Canon 5D Mark III support in CS6 PLEASE!

I own Lightroom but prefer Bridge/Camera Raw for small projects. Would love to see an update to support Canon 5D Mark III in Camera Raw! Thank You.

    Confusing?  You bet!
Just a bit worrisome, too...  One would expect a suite of products should be managed and coordinated as a cohesive unit - no matter how big the company, no matter what the history.  But what motivates an organization to release one part early, before related software is ready?  Then we see updates of that early release come out as beta versions (RCs) several times, so maybe it wasn't really ready...  A Marketing experiment?
Whatever happened to just continuing to work on software until it is ready, with commercial quality?  Set the engineers to optimizing the parts of it that are already feature-complete.  They love doing that!  Too much pressure from management to get early sales?  Why?  Is Adobe afraid of losing market share (to ???) so that they now push to release beta quality software early and in a disjointed way?
I have to say, some parts of Adobe's recent strategy - the public beta of Photoshop CS6, for example - seem very good indeed.  Folks are happy to test software clearly marked as "beta" and which doesn't cost them, and you get the added benefit of them really wanting the release when it comes out.  We can only hope the released Photoshop product is solid and bug-free as a result of sending the beta out to everyone.
Contrast that to releasing LR apparently too early, taking peoples' money, and having them essentially be paying beta testers.  The best Adobe can hope for is that people feel they got their money's worth.  The worst?  The appearance of lack of quality and lack of coordination.
I don't mean to step on any toes here (and I apologize if I have)...  I'm just providing one person's honest assessment of what things look like.

  • Why no Canon 5D Mark III support in CS6/ACR7?

Is this Canon's or Adobe's fault? Either way it is a pain in the arse! As much as I like Lr, I hate going to Lr 4.1RC for small jobs!

I guess some of us (meaning me) have assumed that the full release of CS6 will have at least the same new camera model coverage as ACR6.7.
    ===
I've already installed the full released version.  No Mk III support.
I went back and re-read all of the notes concerning Camera Raw in CS6 and found none that stated it would be updated from the beta version prior to release.  Like you, and many others from what I've read, I expected that CS6 as released would contain a Camera Raw at least equivalent to CR 6.7 with respect to supported cameras.
I guess that was just wishful thinking on my part.  It does make it a pain for me, for most of my preliminary photo editing is done in LR and I currently have two options if I need to do futher edits in Photoshop--render to tiff when sending to CS6 or convert to DNG using LR4.1RC2 or DNG converter 6.7 prior to sending to Photoshop.
Either option is not satisfactory to me because my backup philosophy is based upon backing up just the changed sidecar files not the full image data and with tiff or dng sidecar files apparently don't exist.  Here's crossing my fingers that I can do all of my editing in LR until CR 7.1 is released.  Hope it is soon.
Of course I could have held off getting the 5D Mk III until Adobe supported it in CS6...nahhh I couldn't

  • Camera Raw Support: how to open Canon 7D Mark II Raw files in CS5.5?

I bought CS5.5 only a year ago and a Canon 7D Mark II a couple of months ago.  CS5.5 won't read raw files and I can't find a camera raw update that works with CS5.  Did Adobe quit supporting CS5.5 only a year after they sold it to me or is there a way to update camera raw so it will work with my camera?

CS5.x is obsolete software and is no longer supported by Adobe ever since CS6 was released.  The last version of the Camera Raw plug-in to run with CS5.x was ACR 6.7.1. There will be no further updates for CS5.x.
You need to look for, download, install, launch and run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.8 on each batch of raw files that cannot be opened in ACR 6.7.1.
    Adobe DNG 8.8:
    Adobe DNG Converter Windows

  • Camera Raw CC and CS6 and Lightroom 5 Support for Canon SX60 Canon 7D Mark II

I have just bought my wife Canon SX60 and loaded pictures into Bridge and saw that Camera Raw does not recognize Canon SX60 CR2s. I checked the supported cameras and saw SX60 is not in the list. I will be purchasing a Canon 7D Mark II on Tuesday and see that it is also not supported. I saw in a forum post that the 7D is not in the current Camera 8.7 but will be part of the Camera Raw 8.7 "production release". I currently have Photoshop CC, Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 will both cameras be supported in the next "production version" of Camera Raw and Lightroom 5 and when is it scheduled for release (I saw some thoughts that it would be by the end of year but was hopefully we can get a more definitive date).
    Thanks

It has been indicated that both of those cameras will be supported in the final release of Camera Raw 8.7. But there is no announced release date. There never is. I assume it will be before December 31. But that is only my guess based on the fact that the release candidate expires then.

  • Any idea when Lightroom 4 will have support for the new Canon 5D Mark III?

I have a new Canon 5D Mark III.  When can we expect support for this camera in Lightroom 4?

It's already in the DNG converter that's posted along with ACR 6.7 Beta.  That indicates probably the next version.

  • CANON 5D MARK III TO FCP 7-WHY ARE THERE LINES IN MY VIDEO?

Hi there, so Ive just upgraded from the T2i to Canon 5D Mark III and this is the first time I'm importing footage to final cut. I have FCP 7 (Mac computer) and my video files are 1920x1080, h264 codec shot at 30 fps (29.97). Previously, when importing from the T2i, I used MPEG Streamclip to convert my video files to Apple Prores 422, and then import those compressed files into FCP 7, with field dominance being UPPER, pixels SQUARE. I never had an issue of quality loss or lines through my viewer and canvas using these settings. However, after attempting to do the same with my footage from the Mark III, I got lines through my footage. After researching a bit, I was convinced that the way to eliminate the problem was to download the 5DTORGB app for $50. This has not fixed my problem! Have tried multiple combinations of different field dominance settings and nothing is working. Is this an interlacing problem? I attempted to catch a screenshot but everytime I pause the video or take a shot, the lines do not show...I do not know what is going on! My original mov files are fine, it is only once I convert and import to final cut that they get these little lines... I am desperate for answers, please someone help!!!

You need to ask this on the Final Cut Studio forum.

I need Camera RAW support for Lightroom 4.4 and Canon 7D Mark ii.  Is there a Camera RAW version for me?

Thanks for your help.  I checked out DNG on YouTube and understand more
about it.  I downloaded the DNG converter and transferred in files from my
camera.  Then I imported into Lightroom.  It works!   Thanks again.

anyone know how to solve this problem?  thanks alot

Download and install the latest version of the E-1 plugin from Canon’s website here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digita l_slr_cameras/eos_rebel_t4i#DriversAndSoftware
If this didn't work, follow this creativecow post to modify cameras.plist file; if there's still no go, follow this guide to either modify the .plist file or convert your footage to Apple ProRes, the native editing format of Final Cut Pro.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem with ACR 7 support of Canon 5D Mark III

Just purchased LR4 with ACR7 (upgrade from LR3.6 - not happy about that either, but I am mostly over it) and tried to import photos from my Canon 5D Mark III.  Import feature sees all the .CR2 files but when I try to import them it complains that it does not recognize that file format.  Not happy.

Unfortunately two important cameras, the Canon 5D.3 and the Nikon D800, came out during the transition between LR3/4 and PS-CS5/6 so Adobe released beta versions of LR and ACR to help tide people over, but what gets released when is kindof messy during the transition.
A major version release requires debugging and testing so the functionality, including new camera support, must be frozen earlier as compared to mid-version camera-support releases that have minimal coding changes.  ACR7-beta functionality was frozen back in February so has even less camera support than ACR6.7 beta, which confused PS-CS6-beta users as well.
Just so you’re aware, there is a bug when doing extreme adjustments in the new toning model and geometric lens-corrections have been applied, so be careful with that in the new LR4.1 RC2.   Eric Chan has said the bug will be fixed in the release version of LR 4.1.  The same bugs exist in the final ACR 6.7 that came out within the last week, so it is unclear what the status of a bugfix is for PS-CS5 users.
Here is a forum post with more information.  Also check out the other threads people refer to with other examples of the bug:

Still no change....However, I did export a trial and the vid looks fine, no lines. I guess fcp is just being a little *****! It is just really frustrating me to have to work with these lines going through my clips, even if they do not appear in my exported file....I feel that there must be some hidden issue with my sequence settings....Could you possibly provide a screenshot of the appropriate sequence settings you would use to match a 1920x1080 file with 29.97 fps (already converted from h264 to apple prores 422 thru 5DTORGB) ? I know that usually it is fine to import the newly compressed prores files, and then set sequence to match clips, but since I'm having issues, maybe setting the sequence directly would help?
This is what my sequence settings look like right now, after being matched to my prores clip....
I am concerned because it shows Aspect ratio as HDTV 1080i (16:9) though you have told me my clips from the 5D should be progressive (so shouldnt it be 1080p not 1080i??) Being that there is not option in frame size for 1080p, i tried selecting the "Custom (16:9)" option, but it will not allow it...Just sets it back to 1080i......Any thoughts?
