Canon 5d mark iii camera raw files with CS3

Hi, I recently bought a Canon 5d mark iii camera and am having difficulty viewing the raw files on my Mac. The Mac operating software is 10.5.8 and the mac doesnt have intel. Photoshop software is CS3. I have looked at various plug ins but am struggling to find one that will work. Is there no option to me other than buying a new laptop with the latest photoshop or is there a workaround? Thanks in advance for your help, Mike

Here's the bottom line:
You will never be able to open the image files from your Canon 5d mark III directly in CS3, because that camera model was first supported in Camera Raw 6.7 (which only works with CS5) and 7.1 which only works with CS6.
However, you can download the free Adobe DNG Converter 7.1 and convert your Canon raw files to raw DNGs that you can open with any version of ACR starting with ACR 2.4, which takes you all the way back to CS1. Therefore, you'll be able to open them in CS3 with no problem.
Get the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, it is a stand-alone application that is not tied to whatever version of Photoshop you happen to use. The current version is 7.1 and there's also a beta version 7.2RC1.
Yes, if you can afford a Canon 5D Mark III, you can afford to upgrade from CS3 to CS6 for very little money ($199 for a perpetual license) if you act fast. CS3 will be out of the upgrade loop in late December or so.
I'm one of the many to whom the prospect of buying into Adobe's subscription mode and end up paying the Adobe tribute every month for life seems nothing less than repulsive.
With that camera (a rich man's camera) is silly to be using a laptop (a beggar's machine). Get a decent desktop Mac or PC already!

I'm having trouble getting the CR2 files from my new Canon 7D Mark II camera to CS5/Bridge - it says the files are not supported by the installed version of RAW. The DNG Converter dos not seem to help (I noticed it works for CS6 & CC only) What needs to be done?

I don't know your OS. If you have Vista (Windows) or OSX 10.6.8, you can only go to DNG 8.3, not the 8.7.1 you need.

The Canon 5D Mk 111 was supported from LR 4.1, see the link below. Just update LR to the latest version. See link below

Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
"Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.

I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

HELP...CS4 Canon 5d Mark II camera raw

I hope someone can help me. On Friday I purchased the Canon 5d mark ii because my 1ds mii died and had to go in for repair. I was in the middle of a professional shoot. Now I cannot open the camera raw files in CS4 or Bridge, they do open in Lightroom 2 however, I cannot get them to open in CS4 can any one help with this issue? Please!!!

PSE 12 is not supporting camera raw files with my nikon d4s

I am using PSE 12 to edit pictures. I just purchased a Nikon d4s and neither the organizer nor the editor lets me open the raw file. It says the camera raw file is not supported. I just downloaded camera raw update and it still does not work

Which operating system are you using?
Did you try Help>Updates from within the pse 12 editor to get camera raw 8.5, which should then enable both the pse 12 editor and organizer to open those files.

Canon 7D Mark II Camera RAW w/OSX 10.8?

Will apple release a RAW update that is available for people who are not using OSX Yosemite. I am still on 10.8 and purchased a Canon 7D Mark II, but cannot update the Camera Raw Compatibility unless I update to OSX 10.10.

If you're seriously into RAW processing, I'd suggest taking a look at DxO Optics Pro. It's remarkable what that can do with a RAW image beyond just accessing the RAW file.

Just bought Canon 7d Mark II and saw that it cannot be open in Camera Raw yet. When do you think it will be ready to be shipped?

No release date has been given, but it will be the next release of ACR or Lightroom.

When will Lightroom 4 be updated to be able to read raw files from my Canon 5D mark III ?

Purchased Lightroom 4 to use with my new Canon 5D mark III camera. Still waiting for and update to be able to read the raw files created by this camera. Need it for TAFE course. Have I missed something, Photoshop Elements 10 has been updated but nothing for Lightroom 4 ???

Unable to use PE9 with my Canon 5D Mark III

I could use some help please. When I try to download my new Canon 5D Mark III Raw into PE9 I get an error message telling me that PE is unable to open it because it is the wrong file type. My new Canon 5D Mark III lists the file type as ST8Axxxx instead of the normal IMG_xxxx that I'm used to. Can anyone tell me how to use PE9 with my Canon 5D Mark III camera? Thank you!

The 5D MK III is not supported by PSE 9. It requires ACR 6.7 or 7.1 which will not apply to PSE 9.
You can either :-
1) Update to a newer version of elements
2) Use the Canon software to covert the raw files to TIF files and then import the TIF files
3) Download and install the free Adobe DNG Converter. Convert the raw files to DNG files and then import the DNG files into elements.

Photoshop Elements Plug-in for Canon 5D Mark III

I just got a new Canon 5D Mark III camera. I can not open RAW files in Photoshop Elements 7. I previously had a nikon D200 and was able to read RAW files after I downloaded plugin. What plugin do I need to download for the Canon. Can't seem to find one.

Update to PSE12 or use Canon DPP that came with your camera disk. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
