Canon 5D Mk II Raw files not selectable by Adobe DNG 5.5

Well  to be more clear then the thread header, I am not able to select my old Nikon 5700 Coolpix files either. In other words the files are grey but the Adobe DNG browser is working when looking for file to select. I dropped the first download in the trash and downloaded again but same result.
I  have CS4 and all software is listed as compatible with Canon 5D mkII files. A friend of my was able open my 5D files from Adobe DNG 5.5 that were on his Windows platform.
i did not see any special instructions, and seems intuitive enough, but it must be some kind of Adobe 101 question. Any ideas out there. Thanks.

Well sorry for any confusion here. I don't think my question is vary misleading though.
I have a MAC using OS 10.4.11. G4 Dual 1000 Gig (2002) processors, 1.5 Gb SDRAM (maxed), Dedicated 80 Gb Scratch Disk for Photoshop, 500 Gb Internal Drive.
All operations are done using the MAC OS.
All files are grey when viewed through the  "Adobe DNG Converter 5.5" application browser. If you are familiar when you open Adobe DNG Converter the vary first step in the process is to ( 1. "Select Folder" ). Pressing this button opens a FINDER then if you will , (many applications refer this as using a their browser to locate files for opening).
I am referring to RAW files, and as stated earlier those from the 5D mk II and those from the  Nikon coolpix 5700 are not available for selection, or opening by Adobe DNG Converter 5.5, yet they are listed as being current with DNG Converter 5.5.   "All files are grey", So none of the image files have black text suggesting you may select those.
My  understanding is this converter was made for RAW files, not  "jpeg",  in hopes are creating a last RAW file format Standard that would be a usable archival format across mulitple platforms and through time   . The RAW files are Full 21 megapixel files, not the smaller files sizes  of RAW available on the 5D (ie: sRAW1, or sRAW2). The DNG converter should open all 5D mk II RAW files regardless of megapixel size unless otherwise stated.
My files can not be an issue , because also  stated  was that my files were opened by a DNG converter loaded on a Windows platform.
Procedure performed as follows:
     - Open DNG Converter 5.5 on my Power MAC
     - Press " Select Folder " step number list as "#1"
     - DNG Finder or Browser opens allowing one to find the folder said RAW files are contained within for purpose of selecting full 21 megapixel RAW Format CR2 files for Conversion processing to a DNG file format.
     - Oops, can't select, files have grey text appearance. There are no image files at all with Black Text of any format available for selection, so can't select.
Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe CS4 Bridge, Adobe Camera RAW, Canon Utility package for the 5D mk II all these applications see the files, and function with them, no crashes, not hang ups, a little slower then the world turns now days but they do what they were meant to do.
Thanks again.

  • Canon 5D Mark III Raw Files Not Viewable in Finder for Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    System specs:
Computer: Mid 2008 Mac Pro - Dual Quad Core
OS: OS X 10.6.8 (includes the most recent Digital Camera Raw Updates)
    Camera: Canon 5D Mark III
    Problem:
Finder can not preview the thumbnails from this camera.  While not that big of a deal (I can use Lightroom, Bridge, etc to view these) it is a bit of an annoyance when transfering files around from one volume to another.
According to this Apple support page -   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US   -  I may need to update iPhoto, in order for the Digital Camera Raw Updates to work (specifically 3.12 from last year that addressd the 5D3's raw files).
As a pro photographer, I have ZERO use for iPhoto.  But, I would be willing to spend the $15 for the newest version of iPhoto, if I knew that would solve the Finder thumbnail problem.
I would love a definitive answer, without having to call Apple and paying the "per-incident support fee."

I manually installed the latest RAW update (3.13 I think - for 10.6.8) .... worked for me.
    (auto-update didn't do **** about raw update)
    now aperture and os-x (10.6.8) show the 5dmk3 raw's.

  • Raw files not selectable for transforming?

when i open a raw file in photoshop for editing, under the edit menu, none of the transform options are available.
Is there a reason for this?
And, how do i transform a raw file?
    running windows 7 64-bit...
    thanks!

When you use open in Photoshop and selet a RAW Image the image should open in ACR. You can have ACR transfer its converion of the RAW data a RGB image into Photoshop as a Background Layer or a RAW Smart Object layer.  Background layers are locked for they do not support transparency therefore Transform is not and option that can be used on a background layer. If your image is in Photoshop as a background layer you need to convert it to a normal layer or a smart object to be able to transform it.  However if you convert a Background layer to a smart object layer it is different then ACR transfering the RAW file into Photoshop as a smart object for that smart object contains the RAW file and has the RAW data and can be reopened into ACR.   A background layer is a raster layer converting it to a smart object the smart object contains a raster Layer which can be reopened in Photoshop as a background layer.
In ACR if you hold down the shift key you will see ACR change the 'Open Image in Photoshop" button to "Open Object in Photoshop".....

  • Raw files not opening in Adobe CS4

I just did the update for photoshop CS4 after finding out that I could not open Raw files, but after the update I still can't open them. I own the Adobe Photoshop CS4, and a Nikon D3100 camera. Is there something I have to download in order to get my files to open? I noticed the Camera Raw update 6.3, but that's for CS5 and is not backwards compatible...

Well, my joke stands corrected by the Great Insider hisself.
The funny thing is that I think this particular support policy is good, yet here we find ourselves arguing.  It would be rather nasty but for the DNG converter solution, which I DID mention, and which turns it around completely and makes Adobe the good guys.

  • Canon T3i RAW Files not supported

I just purchased the Canon T3i and its RAW files are not supported on my Photoshop CS5.   What can I do?

    Hello!
Even if 6.4.1 was the first one to support your camera, given the fact that each versions brings small bug fixes, I'd recommend to update to the latest version for CS5, Camera Raw 6.7, you can get it at this link:
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5371
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5370
I would recommend also to download and install the latest version of the DNG converter 7.2, in case you want to process files made in cameras that were released after Camera Raw 6.7:
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5486

  • Finder not showing previews of Canon 5D Mark II raw files?

I've updated to Mac OS 10.5.7 but the Finder is still not showing the previews of Canon 5D Mark II raw files.
This is on a Mac Mini with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
(Interestingly, I have another Mac Mini with 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4, running Mac OS 10.4.11, and the Finder does show previews of the Canon 5D Mark II raw files...)
    Thanks!

Adobe support is generally unreliable.  You should install the latest version of ACR, 5.6.  It's easy to make a mistake with the manual installation instructions.  See this FAQ for troubleshooting:

  • Raw files not showing in PSE12

I recently upgraded from a Canon T3 to a Canon 70D.  I had been using PSE11 with my T3 without any trouble.  But when I got the 70D it would no longer load my raw files.  I did some quick research and saw that I needed to purchase PSE12, so I did.  However, my files still aren't showing even after doing an update.  I'm running on Vista and while my computer is 7 years old it really is working great so I would like to avoid getting a new system just to upload the raw files.  I read about DNG but I really don't want the extra step of having to convert my files.  I just want to be able to import the raw files and work with them from there.  I read somewhere that it's possible to do a manual upgrade to camera raw 8.3, but I can't find any directions.  Would love some help.  I'm about to pull my hair our.  What's so hard about them offering the update through the program I just shelled out $80 for.  I shouldn't have to spend hours getting PSE12 to work.  Thanks in advance for any help!

Sure, it's not too hard to do the upgrade to camera raw 8.3.
First download and install the 8.3 dng converter to install the required profiles for camera raw 8.3
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.3
Then download the Camera Raw_83_GM_32bit.zip from the following link
(it's under where it says Revert to 8.3 on Windows 32-bit Windows XP and Vista)
(since pse 12 is a 32 bit program on windows, you want the 32 bit camera raw plugin)
Adobe Camera Raw Help | Camera Raw/DNG Converter 8.4 on Mac OS 10.6, Windows XP, and Vista
Extract the contents of the Camera Raw_83_GM_32bit.zip and copy the enclosed Camera Raw.8bi file to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats (64 bit windows vista system)
    or
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats (32 bit windows vista system)
It's a good idea to delete the old camera raw plugin before pasting the new one into one of the above places.

  • Canon 7d mark II raw files open error

Photoshop elements 12 will not open the canon 7d mark II raw files, from what I read elements are not going to upgrade there camera profiles anymore, so anything new your just out of luck?  The support people have no clue.

    Faq:
FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?
    more specifically:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
in which you find that your camera requires the ACR 8.7 version
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
in which you see that PSE12 can't, and that PS13 can with an update.
So what solution, since Adobe does not upgrade older versions? It's the free Adobe DNGconverter:
Use the latest version of the free DNG Converter (for Macintosh or Windows)
You can convert your files to the universaly compatible DNG format (the files will work with any version of the Camera Raw plug-in). See In depth : Digital Negative (DNG) for more information.
This standalone utility lets you batch convert whole folders of raw files to the DNG raw format that your PSE12 can read.

  • Problem opening Canon 5D Mark II raw files

Adobe support has started a case file #181481276 on my problem.  I recently had my hard drive replaced so I had to reload my photoshop elements 7.  It wouldn't open the Canon 5D Mark II raw files so I downloaded the latest raw plug-in 5.5 for PSE 7.  Still wouldn't open the raw files.  I may not be doing the right thing with the clunky #%&# zip files.  Adobe support said I should download the raw plug-in 5.2 (seems if 5.2 would work subsequent plug-ins like 5.5 should also work).  I downloaded 5.2 and nada no help.  Am I doing something wrong with the zip files?  I open each of the three files that downloaded (even moved them to the Adobe folder in the C program files folder).  My operating system is XP Professional.

  • Will Lightroom 4 get updated with support for Canon 7D Mark II Raw Files?

I received an update for Photoshop to support Canon 7D Mark II raw files (ACR 8.7), will Lightroom 4.4 get an update to support these files?

I don't know why you feel it makes things more complex. All you need to do is use the DNG converter as your download software. The conversion takes place during the download, and then you can import directly into Lightroom. I'm not trying to sell you on using DNG. But it isn't as cumbersome as it seems.
Since Lightroom doesn't utilize the Camera Raw plug-in, it makes it more difficult to provide updates. In Lightroom update means distributing a whole new Lightroom program.

  • Raw files not supported

I have a new Canon T2i and can't seem to get the raw files to open in Elements 8. I have downloaded the 5.6 camera raw update and the DNG converter and both say camera raw files not supported......now what?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I  have also an EOS Rebel T2i since a few days and I experienced the same issue with Photoshop CS4.  What next? !!!!
It's likely the next version of Adobe Camera Raw will handle it;   Adobe updates ACR about every three or four months, and the most recent version was released in December:

  • Canon 7d Mark ii raw files?

When will LR and PS support the new Canon 7d Mark ii raw file format?

Quote "Same issue here... So what's the current best way to get images to LR5?  Canon Digital Photo Proffessional?"
The simple answer is yes, until other third party programs that offer support in processing raw files from the Canon 7d Mk ii.
If Lightroom / ACR or other software is critical to your work process then do not purchase a new camera model until you have verified that support is available in the software of your choice.

  • Canon 5D Mark 2  Raw Files wont import.

My Friend has a Canon 5d Mark 2 and the files will not import. it says it's an unrecognized format.
now when I shoot with my Canon rebel Xti in raw it will import them. does anybody know if apple will support the canon 5d mark 2 raw files in iPhoto? Or is there something i did not check in prefs to help import?

Hi. I've got a slightly different problem. I've just upgraded from Canon 20D to 5D and although the RAW files and JPEGs DO both import, the RAW files are no longer labelled 'CR' with the image number. There's just an image number, which duplicates the JPEG file number alongside. I've tried to find a setting in iPhoto9 prefs and also on the camera to add the CR suffix, but have not resolved this. I would like the RAWs to import with the CR tag, as with the 20D. Am I missing something...?!
