Canon 5Dii workflow with premier

i need help: i shoot with 5DII and i used adobe premiere CS5, project setting was 1080 25p, why the footage after export looks funny,? is not smooth at all like my sony EX1 or some other video in vimeo that been filmed with 5D? do i need to do something like scale or reduce the size or change the format? could you let me know what setting do i have to use to get better project and export.
some says use MPEG streamclip to:
1) reduce the size and change to different format like Apple ProRes 422 HG
2) some other says to change to apple XDCAM HD 1080 30p
3) and some one told me about Native format, is it the 24P?
i really need help as i am getting fed up with my footage. i need to know from scrach to open new project for this kind of file or what format shall i change?
many thanks guys.

why the footage after export looks funny,?
You'll need to explain this better. Funny how?
do i need to do something like scale or reduce the size or change the format? could you let me know what setting do i have to use to get better project and export.
You don't have to do anything out of the ordinary: import, drop it in a sequence, and edit. No converting is necessary. If you don't know the parameters of your footage, drop a clip on the New Item button at the bottom of the Project Panel. You'll get a sequence that matches your footage.
What codec and settings you're using to export is important, though. That's less automatic, so you need to choose the parameters (or at least a preset) carefully to ensure the best--or most appropriate--output.

  • Canon-HV20 Workflow with FCP 5.1.4

hi, I've been having all the same problems with pulldown that everyone else seems to have with the HV20 only problem is, I have 5.1.4, and I cannot find any help with this version, just my luck I have the version no one else has, ANY help would be greatly appreciated, I just need a way to capture and not have the terrible pulldown, thanks.

Cinema Tools can remove the 3:2 pulldown but its a bit of fussing around. You first have to convert the imported video to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). Then you have to manual figure out the cadence for each clip in Cinema Tools and do the reverse telecine.
There used to be some tutorials on the HV20 forums here: http://dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=139 but I haven't looked at them lately.

  • Tapeless workflow with FCP 5 and Canon XL H1

Is it possible to establish a tapeless workflow with FCP 5 and a Canon XL H1 shooting in HD mode?
We have to shoot many days of lectures and want to skip the import of the footage. The firestore FS-C can only record up to 7.5 hours in HD but we don't have the time to empty it overnight so it can be available the next day...
We can connect a couple of 500 GB lacie to a 17" Macbook Pro and wanted to use FCP to live capture from the camera. Is that possible?
Or did anyone try to do that with the Canon Console software (windows only) and then import its stream in FCP?
    Thanks

No time to unload a drive when you have all night? Why would that be? Isn't this just a big drag and drop? Can't let it start and go to dinner?
If you shoot HDV you should also record it to tape becuase disk drives can fail etc during the shoot.
You can capture live from the camera's FW port but again I'd shoot tape as well... use capture now but also use the device control that works with that camera to get the TC thru too. (probably FW HDV basic)
The camera also has an uncompressed output but that would take a capture card and fast disk array (faster than FW for sure) to capture the uncompressed HD.

  • Does Encore come with Premier Pro CC?

Hi, I'm on the creative cloud and I have Premier Pro CC. I do not have Premier Pro CS6. I've heard that you get Encore with Premier Pro CS6, but I cannot find anything on it for Premier Pro CC. I use a Mac and I cannot find anything I've already downloaded that says Encore. I need to make a dvd, do I actually have Encore and just don't know it, and what recommendations do you guys have for my situation?
    Please and Thank you,
    -Justin

Encore is end of life, and stops at CS6. But you do have access to it with your CC subscription.
See this link, which includes how to install Encore CS6, how to get the library, and a tutorial on workflow with Premiere CC.

  • I want to sell my Canon EOS 6D with bundled Lightroom and Elements. May the purchaser use the bundle

I want to sell my Canon EOS 6D with bundled Lightroom and Premiere Elements. May the purchusar use the bundled software?

In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

  • IPad SD card reader not reading JPGS from Canon 5dIII

Have a brand new iPad (retina) and the SD to lighting connector.
When I insert a Lexar Professional 16GB 400x SD card with images from my Canon 5DIII, iPad opens the Photo app and I can see the thumbnails, however when I try to import, instead of a green icon with a check mark, I get a red one with an exclamation point (an error). The photos are not imported.
I used the same SD card in my Canon G12 and images from that camera import just fine. When I reduce the resolution on the 5DIII, the images import fine.
I have read there is a 32GB limit on the size of teh SD card, but I suppose there must also be a limit on individual file sizes as well. If so, I cannot find it documented.
Does anyone know if this is the case?

In the past I've copied MP4 films via an SD card with the kit and been able to play them, but a film bought from iTunes didn't play (you can't copy content to the Videos app via the kit, only to the Photos app). Also the kit only recognises content that is in a particular format - the card has to have a DCIM directory off its root, with the photos/videos underneath it with filenames exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus file extension.

  • Canon 5DIII conversion of ProRGB or Adobe RGB to sRGB over-saturation

I shot a Canon 5DII in raw for three years & posted a lot of my work on the web.  I did PP on the image with a calibrated monitor.   I would make initial adjustments in LR4 & further develop the raw file in PS.  When generating a copy to post on the web, I would convert to sRGB & imbed the color profile when generating the web-ready jpg file.  The image was slightly different when viewing in Firefox (it reads the embedded color profile) vs. viewing in Internet Explorer or Google Chrome browsers.  But it was not a significant difference.
With my new 5DIII, when using the same PP methods & conversion, there is a huge difference depending on the browser.  Firefox renders just a bit flat, but generally in the ball park of what I set the image color at.  In IE & Chrome, the reds are really over saturated & the blues are somewhat so.  I'm embarrassed to post anything with the fear that someone will look at them with one of those two browsers.
Has anyone else run into this issue when upgrading to the 5D3?  Way over-saturated colors in certain browsers for sRGB jpg files?
Here's an example I posted on the Nature Photographer's Network site: http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/largephoto.cgi?ref=195761&w=i
If you view it in different browsers, you'll see the big difference.  Thanks for any help or advice.

The manufacturer’s profile may or may not be quite correct.  If you are doing photography that others pay for the results from, then you should invest in a hardware calibrator to make sure things are as correct as possible when viewed or printed elsewhere.
One of the Spyder series is what I see many people using.  I see others mention the iOne/EyeOne and a few Colormunki, with some people also needing printer calibration be handled by their calibrator for added expense.  If you are sending out your prints, only, or people are ordering them, online, then that is not a concern, but getting accurate color on your monitor is, and being able to trust that the colors you’re seeing in your color-managed products like Photoshop and Lightroom will carry over to clients viewing sRGB JPGs on their cheap monitors, and also carry over to offsite prints, is a concern.
The initial problem description of colors becoming oversaturated suggests a problem with your monitor’s color profile not matching what it actually is displaying, as well as a problem with some non-color-managed applications showing weird things, and perhaps a problem with the output profile from LR or PS not being set and embedded as sRGB.
Setting your monitor to the manufacturer’s profile is a good first step as long as your monitor, itself, using the on-screen-menus of the monitor is set to the proper mode that matches what your profile is doing.  Maybe this is a Native mode, not a User or sRGB mode.  Some manufacturer’s monitor profiles are actually incompatible with LR and cause problems, though, which is another reason to create your own custom profile.
The reviews I see for your particular monitor say it is very bright.  Are you using it at maximum brightness when you are editing?  A hardware calibration process usually also has a step or two where you set your monitor to an ok contrast and brightness setting, rather than maxed out.   Is your room lighting (ambient lighting) very bright or normal overhead office fluorescents or very dark.

  • 5DIII pb with file mng with RAW on CF + JPEG on SD

    Hello,
I am a travel photographer and I encounter much difficulties with my workflow with the 5D Mark III.
I chose the separate recording option (NOT the multimedia option) in order to shoot RAW on CF and JPEG on SD. I use temporarily the JPEGs for on-the-go quick editing, metadata management and uploading on the internet while on travel. The RAW files will be used when I am back home. I have no intention to keep the JPEGs after, they are temporary.
The problem : when I delete a RAW file from the camera, it does not delete its JPEG counterpart or vice versa. So, I have to do the work twice.
IMHO, there are no good reasons for such a behaviour:
    1) If i want a backup on the SD card, there is the multi-media recording option for that. That´s what it is designed for. In this case, I understand that deleting from one card does not affect the other.
    2) If I delete a RAW file from the camera, what is the point having the JPEG kept on the SD ? For serious photographers (5D Mark III users), a JPEG will NEVER be a backup for a missing RAW.
    3) Implicitely Canon agree with this behaviour since when shooting RAW+JPEG on the same card, deletion affects both RAW and JPEG.
What are other users' and Canon team's point of views on this ? Can a firmware update fix this ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Yoms

    Hi Yoms,
Based on what you are describing, your camera appears to be working properly.  When both files are recorded to each memory card, they are not linked in any way.  When you delete one, it will not delete the other automatically.
We are sorry if this has caused any inconvenience.  The new firmware update is going to be released later this year.  It does not appear that this is one of the functions being changed, so whether or not it will be changed in the future is unknown at the moment.  However, we appreciate your feedback on this.  Your suggestion for this change has been noted.

  • Lightroom 5.5 Canon 5DIII raw files misinterpreted

When I import Canon 5DIII raw files into Lightroom 5.5 some of the file end up with rectangular areas of garbage, often diagonal lines.
The problem is generally remedied by importing the file again.
I use Downloader Pro to get cards from the CF card and then import into Lightroom.
I have tried different memory cards but doubt this is the problem because reimporting same file generally solves the problem.

My guess is that the files are corrupted—part of the raw data is missing.  The slight curvature of the border is due to a lens profile being applied.
If the situation can be fixed by redownloading the file, then something must be happening in the transfer.
If this cannot always fix the situation then perhaps the card is bad and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.  If downloading the file multiple times always results in exactly the same corruption then I’d guess the image is on the card that way.  You can try using another way to download like Explorer or Finder, and see if the same situation happens.
If you want to upload one of the files that LR says is corrupted, others can test it to see if it is also bad on their systems.  Sometimes a computer’s memory is bad on the image will only look bad in LR, but usually this manifests as things streaks and spots, not a block in the corner.

  • Canon 7D Workflow

    Hi Everyone,
I've recently downloaded the EOS plug in for FCP 7 and would like to know the following:
What ProRes setting will I use on the 'log and transfer' window?
What will I need to set the 'Easy Set Up' window to?
Anything further would be helpful. Lastly I'm mainly using the 720P 50fps setting on my 7D.
    Many thanks!

    Hello!
Welcome to the forums. The short answer to your question is that you'd need to select ProRes LT as your import codec, then select a ProRes LT easy setup.
We get a lot of similar questions here everyday. Take a look through this quick search link, and you'll find a wealth of information regarding the Canon Workflow with FCP.

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

Hi, thaks for response, meant to post as a discussion (not question), wanted to save others time if they get the same problem

  • Single step workflow with multiple approvers (without using a group)

    Hi,
is it possible to have a single step workflow with multiple approvers without using a group? This is for a contract document.
i want to add a number of users based on particular logic. The approvers are random and do not belong to any particular group.
DO let me know if it is possible or if any of you have done that.
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    rubio

    Hi Rubio,
I believe the behavior would be, if individual users are added as approvers then the system would require each approver to approve the document. However, if you use the user group, you could set the role so that it would be either ALL or ANY.

  • Windows 8 and Elements 11 with premier

Cannot get Elements 11 with premier to download. Keeps telling me my IE needs to be 4 or higher. Running windows 8, IE 10, with an embedded flash player 11.3, any ideas why this error keeps occuring and preventing me from downloading the software?

Similar to your problem, but it crashes during launch, not after a period of use. I posted this at DPReview to see if anyone there has some insights:
I just rebuilt my PC as the machine was suffering random hardware crashes. So I took the opportunity to migrate to Windows 8 (with a format and clean install, not upgrade) and also upgrade a few other bits, e.g Elements from 8 to 11. Most stuff works, but Elements 11 just refuses to start.
Running the Elements launcher does nothing (it fails before anything appears). Running the Editor directly from the Program File folder shows the splash screen, but then Windows shows a dialogue saying the app has stopped working. I've tried compatibility mode and running as admin (it throws a UAC dialogue, which is odd for an app designed to run as a normal user under Windows 8).
The Event Viewer shows the crash coming from the call to ntdll.dll:
    PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
    11.0.0.0
    505d12ab
    ntdll.dll
    6.2.9200.16420
    505aaa82
    c0000005
    0004f7d5
    f78
    01cdd9e7f71d02bf
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
    C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
    38b995ea-45db-11e2-be75-50465d517d2b
My other software works fine, including Lightroom 4.3 and Reader XI, so it's not a general Adobe or Windows problem.
I've searched around, but there's not much help out there. There were suggestions to delete the contents of the User/AppData/Roaming/Adobe folder, but that didn't help. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't change anything. I even downloaded the trial version from Adobe to see if that was more recent than the DVD, but it seems to be the same version number (from 22nd September 2012) and suffers the same issue.
So, has anyone else got this software to work on Windows 8 Pro? If so, did it "just work", or did you have to do anything?
