Canon 60D w/ EF-S 15-85 IS USM missing lens profile in Lightroom 4

This is a Canon kit combination and it seems odd that it's not included in the Canon profile for lens correction.  The EF-S 10-22 IS USM is there which is not a kit lens and quite expensive.  Am I missing a step or do I have to download additional lenses from Adobe?  I'd rather not get into downloading someone's guess from the profile creator if I can avoid it.

It is included, but it's a raw-only profile.
There are also two on the downloader, one of which I produced.  It has nothing to do with guessing.

  • Canon 8-15mm f4 lens profile in lightroom 5 is not there

Does anyone know what lens profile to use for the Canon 8-15mm f4 fisheye in lightroom 5

I have the Canon EF 8-15mm fisheye lens and use it on both the 5D MKII full-frame and 600D 1.6 crop bodies. This lens exhibits very little vignetting at all focal lengths on either body and of course exhibits 100% distortion.
The biggest issue with this lens is lateral and axial chromatic aberration. Selecting 'Remove Chromatic Aberration' does a good job of removing the lateral CA, but there is still significant axial CA present. To correct the axial CA I use the Defringe tool. Using too high of a Defringe setting can desaturate like colors (i.e. purple) in the actual image, but the following Defringe settings work well with virtually all images without any significant desaturation:
    Full-Frame, 1.6 & 1.3 Crop Body
    8-12mm: Amount = 2, Purple Hue = 30/55
    13-15mm: Amount = 4, Purple Hue = 30/55
If you are trying to rectilinear correct your images so they don't exhibit fisheye distortion the Canon 7D lens profile for the 8-15mm  available in the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader will do that for both full-frame and 1.6 crop bodies. Unfortunately there is significant softness in the outer area of the image. It also does a fairly good job of correcting the small amount of vignetting on both bodies.
I also use the PS Adaptive Wide Angle filter and Fisheye Hemi plugin with much better performance concerning sharpness, but without full distortion correction. For landscape work the image looks virtually 100% rectilinear.
You can read my review of this lens on Amazon for more details on the LR settings I use:

  • Missing lens profile (Canon 500 F4 IS)

The Canon 500mm F4 is one of the most popular (if not the most popular) lens among canon wildlife photographers.  And yet it has never been included in the ACR.  Why is this?  How do I rattle Adobe's cage to get them to add this very popular lens?

Although that lens might be the most popular lens among wildlife photographers, it might not be one that Adobe has chosen to profile yet. If you go to the Adobe labs website you can download the Lens Profile Downloader which is a program that will link to a website where others have created and posted lens profiles. You might find one there. Or, on that same website, you can download the Lens Profile Creator which is a program that will enable you to create your own profile.
As a side note (and something you are probably aware of), lens profiles are file format sensitive. In other words, a profile that was created for raw images will not be visible or available for JPEG images.

  • Missing Canon lens profile into lightroom

    Hi Guys
I have LR4.1 and I just realized that I am missing the one for my 100-400 f4,5/5,6
any idea how can I get it ?
    Many thanks
    have a super day, Thierry

It is possible to save a duplicate of the lens profile file, and "kludge" it from Raw to non-Raw using a text editor. This generally works well enough; much better than manual corrections alone - provided that the camera is not also applying lens correction, and so confusing matters.

  • Lens profile for Canon 28/1.8 - already installed in LR4?

Hmm, the explanation of lens profiles and how to add them is a little confusing.
When I look here in Adobe's own list of supported lenses, my new "Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM" is listed there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/lens-profile-support-lightroom-4.html
Does that mean that profile should already be installed in LR 4? (I am running 4.4)
The profile is not showing up in Lightroom for me. (I am shooting JPEG.)
I downloaded the lens profile downloader, and found a profile for this lens, but is that the official Adobe profile for the lens? I installed it but it still doesn't work for me because it is for RAW only.
    Sorry for the newbie question.
    thanks in advance,
    Paul D.

JPG lens profiles are distinct from RAW lens profiles because cameras can fix things with the camera-produced JPGs that the lens profiles also fix and you can get double-corrections by using a raw lens profile with a jpg, but it depends on the capabilities and settings of the particular camera.
If you are sure your camera isn’t correcting geometric and vignetting issues with your JPGs, then you can hack the lens profile you downloaded to use it with JPGs, by editing the .lcp file with a text editor and change the flag indicating it is for raw files from True to False.  I forget what this flag is called, exactly, but it is obvious and near the top of the files.
On Windows, the lens profiles are downloaded to:
    C:\Users\--username--\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\
AppData is a hidden or system folder so you’ll need to unhide such folders in the folder options in Explorer or just type in the path an hit Enter in the address area of Explorer.

  • Canon 60D saved footage files in H264...need to convert...is there a way to automatically shoot and save as a different codec?

    Hey,
My friend has the Canon 60D. We shot some footage and I uploaded it to my computer and saw that it was H264 codec. I now have to convert it all to ProRez Lite. I'm not too familiar with the camera but - is there a way for the Canon 60D to automatically save the files it shoots to a better codec so that when I upload them to my computer it's ready to go?
My friend only has an 8GB SD card. The stuff we would be shooting would'nt be too too much footage but if there was a way to make it save as something like Pro Rez lite where it can be editable in FC and still a decent file size that would be great.
    Thanks

Thanks for the replys. Since it's not my camera he was just letting me borrow his sd card, so I wouldn't be able to do the log and transfer thing because I won't have the camera/usb etc. But that seems like the transcoding would take some time regardless since it's still converting.
I usually use the regular Prores 422, but I mentioned trying out pro res lite cause I hear the quality is similiar and less on the file size.
I guess I will have to just deal with waiting to convert footage everytime I want to edit. It doesn't make sense to me why their default is a delivery format on a prosumer product... I can understand iphones being h264 cause they need it small compression on just planning to upload it raw to youtube or something but with a dslr which would most likely be used with editing is in a delivery codec... So is that the standard workflow with everyone to spend hours converting first?
    Thanks

  • Canon 60D not recognized by iMac

My early 2013 iMac 27" running Mavericks does not recognize my Canon 60D when plugged in via USB.
I've tried Image Capture, iPhoto, Lightroom. Nothing will recognize it. I've also tried plugging via USB hub and straight into a USB port of the iMac. Even tried different USB cables. No luck.
I also have a late 2008 MBP running Mavericks and it reads my camera just fine when plugged in via USB.
I know I can just use a card reader, but that's not the issue here. Why does my MBP read the camera just fine but iMac doesn't? It was working fine last week and out of nowhere it just stopped working. I'm baffled.

                                                                                                                        2014.06.15
    Some questions and suugestions.
When did it stop functioning ?  If it works on another computer, you at least know that the Canon is OK.
So the Canon works, leaving the iMac as the most likely culprit, but I think you may be looking in the
wrong direction. Go to the Canon web site and see if they have a later driver than what's in your iMac.
I would also send separate emails to Canon and to Apple. I'm sure that both would be interested.
I hope that this may be of some use to you; when any product fails to function, its' usually
driver related. Other than that, take two asperins and call yourself in the morning.    ( lame, but I couldn't resist )

  • Unable to Open Canon 60D RAW files in PSE9

Since I got my new camera Canon 60D, I have not been able to open the RAW (CR2) files in my Photoshop Elements 9.  The ones from my previous camera I could. I have installed the Solutions software that came with the camera and have gone to both the Canon and Adobe sites to see if there is something I am missing. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Can you check which version of Camera Raw is installed - it needs to be version 6.2 or later for the 60D
Open Full edit on the menu bar click:
    Help >> About Plug-In >> Camera Raw
Press Esc to close the pop-up.

I can not open canon 60d raw images on photoshop CS5.1? the same program on stationary mac can open the same raw files, whereas new lap top can not? Why?  can not go to updates either- error, why?

Which version of mac os x does your new mac have?

You might try downloading and installing the 6.7 camera raw update from here:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 Update
If you need any other updates, you can find most of them here:

  • Camera Raw does not read previously saved XMP files (Canon 60D)

    Hi,
I want to ask if it is a real problem or just me doing something wrong.
I open RAW files made with Canon 60D (Photoshop CS5, Camera Raw 6.6), then I do what a do (cropping, exposure changes, sharpen ... etc.), then I click the Done button. Camera Raw saves XMP files along with the RAW files. After this I want to do some more editing, I open the RAW files, but Camera RAW does not "remember" what it did just minutes before. I suppose that it is not reading the XMP files that it created.
So is it me or it is some kind of bug?
I don't have this problem when editing RAW files made with Canon 400D.
    Thanks for your time!

If I understand correctly the issue is not viewing in Bridge, but rather that ACR doesn't remember the changes.
There is a discussion in the Camera Raw forum about this issue of not always reading the changes after clicking Done in ACR.
    But no solution.

Yes, ACR doesn't remember/show the changes I made.
It seems that I have the same problem as the other forum member from the link. I tried to recreate the issue, but this time all went well and ACR displayed the changes I made ...
It is strange because I had the issue numerous times on two different windows PC's ...

  • All clips from Canon 60D come out lagging

I just recently bought both a Canon 60D and Final Cut Pro X for my Macbook Pro.  I have since tried repeatedly, in several ways, to upload my shot footage from that camera, and all of it lags and is choppy, at many points, having the frames dropped left and right.
    I have tried:
1). Converting my .mov files to Apple ProRes
    2). Changing the frame rate
3). Uploading the clips from their converted states off of a 1 TB hard drive into Final Cut
Among many others.  The above methods didn't work.
I also tried editing the clips in Adobe Premiere... it lagged on there, too!
    Two things though....
1). It DID play on iMovie just fine... along with Quicktime Player and a few other mediums that don't do what I want to do
2). Playback on the camera itself is smooth and clear just like I shot it.
HELP!!  I've been trying to figure out my lagging issues for a week now.  Help, PLEASE.

If they didn't play back smoothly with Pr or FCPX, I would wonder about hardware issues. Check to se that you have adequate free space on your system drive  ~ 20% would be good.  What are your system specs?
Also, here you're singling out the DSLR clips. How about HD footage from other sources?

  • Trying to tether a Canon 60D to two copies of Lightroom 4 on two different computers

I have a Canon 60D tethered to an Imac with Lightroom 4 and also have Lightroom 4 on a Powermac. When I try to veiw imported images lightroom says it can't do a automatic import over the network. The images are captured every 3 minutes, and I need them to be viewed on both computers and can't find the answer.

You will need to have a third-party software like Hazel transfer from the Tethered Mac to local folder the non-Tethered Mac.  Then the non-Tethered Mac will need to do an import by watched folder.

  • Canon 60D RAW files and Apperture 3.0

I have OS X 10.5.8 and Aperture 3.0. My new Canon 60D RAW files can not be seen either in Aperture or Finder. Is there newer version for Aperture or is it the OS X that is too old?

Here is a list of raw formats supported by the current Aperture version:
Raw Support for Leading Cameras: http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
The current Aperture Version is AP 3.2.2., and to use the most recent raw support, you need to be running AP 3.2.2. and MacOS 10.6.8 or later.
If you find your camera in the list of supported cameras, you might consider to update your OS, if your hardware does support the newer systems.
