Canon 6D - Overexposed images after standby/power-off, returns to normal after initial shot

Hi guys.
I just recently got back from a long trip and on that long trip, I noticed my 6D has developed an interesting issue.
Here's the deal.
My 6D happens to terribly overexpose an image, but ONLY after being put in stand-by/sleep or being powered-off for an X amount of time.
Once I take a shot after being powered back on again, all returns to normal.
Below are some examples of what I am experience and you can tell by the RAW data, all the parameters are the same but the exposures are different.
When it began, I did not alter my original settings since getting the camera in January. I tried resetting my factory settings and it still happens. It will happen on pretty much any of my lenses, so this leads me to believe it is an issue with the body (either my 24-105 4L or my Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art)
What say you Canon crew, do I need to send it in for a warranty claim? Your assistance = greatly appreciated. Thanks!
PS: My next troubleshooting step is to reflash the firmware....I will update this thread accordingly to share if this makes a difference.

It's overexposing the first shot, but the settings are identical?  Yeah, I'd say that's going back to Canon.
Just out of curiosity though, does it happen in JPG too?  Are the shots we're looking at the jpg preview embedded in the RAW, or the RAW file itself?

  • Canon 60D does not resume after auto power off

My Canon 60D does not resume after auto power off. It shows the empty battery icon when I press the shutter button, even the battey is fully charged. If I remove the battery and insert back it will resume to work. Any one had the same experience and know how to resolve it?

The power switch is actually a "software" switch.  It's not like a light switch in that it doesn't actually provide or deprive the camera of power... only removing the battery will deprive the camera of power.  This is why it doesn't actually just go dark when you switch off power... instead you'll usually see it perform a sensor clean cycle and then power down.  The camera is technically in a kind of "sleep" mode monitoring the switch.  If a Canon camera ever seems to lock up and ignore all input, the battery should be temporarily removed to "reboot" the camera.   There is no "setting" in a camera that can configure it to ignore buttons.   Although... if the camera is in an automatic mode, some input is deliberately ignored to make it easier to use the camera.  Put the mode dial in a "creative zone" mode (P, Tv, Av, or M) and all buttons and menus should be accessible. You might try connecting the camera via USB cable to your computer and then attempt to control the camera via the Canon EOS Utility to see if that works.  If the camera responds fine to the computer control, then likely the camera's main board and circuits are working fine and it may just be a wiring problem -- as if some cable simply isn't getting a very solid connection.  If this is a wiring issue, you are probably better off sending it in for service.

  • Unable to Connect to WiFi after iPhone power off; WiFi & internet are working with MBP; common problem, no solutions?

Here's my setup: Internet <> Comcast/xFinity supplied cable modem <> new Apple Time Capsule <> iPhone 4 & MacBook Pro (see below for hardware details)
Internet on my iPhone 4 has been acting slow since yesterday evening. My MacBook Pro was running fine, but just to be sure I checked the Comcast website to see that I have only used 50GB of my allotted 250 GB of data for the month, so it's not that.
I decided it must be a problem with just my iPhone, so I opened up the multitasking bar and quit everything in there manually, and then I held the on/off button, and slid the slider to power off. When I started back up, I could not connect to the same WiFi I had just been using. I tried to reconnect and nothing. I tried to forget the network and try again, nothing. I tried to reset all network settings, nothing.
I have tried all the steps listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections"
Toggled WiFi off and back on
Made sure I am in range of the router (it's about 8 feet away and my iPhone reports full signal from the network)
Made sure all the hardware is connected and on
Checked other devices (I'm successfully connected with my MacBook Pro right now)
Checked for router firmware upgrades (I have a new Time Capsule from Apple with the current 7.5.2 firmware which I've been using for a month)
    Restarted my device (again)
Checked that the network is available (it does show on my iPhone)
    Restarted my Time Capsule
Checked my router configuration as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727 "Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network" which involves simply checking to see that WMM is turned on, also stating that WMM cannot be enabled or disabled for Apple's AirPort products.
    Reset my network settings (again)
I have searched and searched for fixes to this problem, and I have additionally tried:
    Enabling/disabling Airplane Mode
Disabling any network password protection/encryption (no luck), re-enabling it (no luck)
    Changing the network password
Checking for hardware addresses present in iOS Settings > General > About (they are present and not zero'ed out)
Switching Bluetooth off (nothing) and back on (nothing)
....and probably a few other things I can't think of right now
    I have yet to try:
The "Freezer Trick" which apparently involves chilling the iPhone to get a temporary fix?
Restoring the iPhone (I would really rather not)
A different WiFi network (other than my own Time Capsule home network or guest network, both of which give the same Unable to Connect error)
So, after all of that, are there any more ideas? Is there a reliable solution to this issue? So far I've just seen a lot of "mess with the settings," "the freezer trick worked," and "blame it on the iOS 4 update."
    Here are my hardware details:
    iPhone 4; iOS 5; 32GB; AT&T; no cellular data plan (July 2011)
    TimeCapsule6,113; Firmware 7.5.2; 2TB (September 2011)
    MacBook Pro 3,1; Mac OS X (10.7.2); 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Hi-Res Display; 4GB RAM; 500GB HD (August 2007)
    ...and the Time Capsule config:
    http://cl.ly/BCUt

Ugh. Apparently "messing with it" is still the answer. I decided to try the LinkSys router I was using before I bought the Time Capsule, and my iPhone connected with no problem.
I went through the steps again, and after rebooting my Time Capsule this time, I can connect again. The troubling thing it that this started with a power-off of my iPhone. No changes or installations, just a reset. Am I going to have to reboot my Time Capsule (which has no power switch, just a cord I have to unplug) every time I reboot my iPhone?
    Jinkies.

  • How do you power off the apple tv after update 9/24/12

How do you turn the unit off? After the update we got the new feature of moving the icons around, but that is done by holding the select button down. Wasn't that the old way of powering it off? So is settings and sleep now or sleep timer the only way? hmmm.

    derschwede wrote:
    yes, thats the only way.
That's actually incorrect. The function has moved to the play/pause button on the remote. However this seems to only work with the Apple remote that shipped with the Apple TV. I've tried it on a "learned" remote, and it didn't work.
So just hold the play/pause button and the Apple TV will go to sleep.
    eagle2sparrow wrote:

Technically there is no way to power off the Apple TV (unless you unplug it). Holding down the button on the remote only puts it to sleep. It's always been that way.

  • Connect to iTunes required after every power off of Ipad 64GB wifi

My Ipad 64GB wifi model continually prompts to "connect to iTunes" every time I power off and power back on. This is extremely frustrating and the Apple Customer Care has asked that I return my iPad. I would rather find a solution since I am working Iraq and my Ipad is my e-book reader (in place of a Kindle. Steps taken thus far:
Reset iPad (Erase All Content and Settings)
    Reset Network settings
Reset All Settings (content not erased)
I've read that this problem sometimes occurs with some third-party applications installed (like Jailbird) . I do not have any of those applications installed. If anyone can offer a solution I would greatly appreciate it.
    Danielle

Since you erased all content and reinstalled the OS and this still happens, sounds like a hardware failure. You need to take the iPad back to an Apple store for an exchange.

  • My iphone is frozen. will not power off or respond even after charging.

My iPhone is Frozen. Does not power off as well. What can be done to fix this?

Try a soft reset, press and hold in the homescreen key (Circle button at bottom of the iPhone) and power key (One that locks the screen as well as turns it off and on) at the top, together and hold it till the screen shows the Apple logo, then release the keys, this should hopefully resolve.
Let us know how it goes.

  • CMOS clears after full power off

    Hello,
    I have a problem with my MSI-6547 (645 E Max-U).
Whenever I have a full power off (power cord disconnected, general power failure) the CMOS settings are lost. The CMOS battery is OK, I have taken it out, measured 3.1 V, contacts are clean.
Any advice on what's wrong with the mobo?
    Thanks.

Can try changing the jumper for JBAT1 to see if the problem remains.
Hello NovJoe, I am not quite sure what you mean here? Clearing the CMOS with the jumper is not necessary as taking full power off already does clear the CMOS (and causes a warning at POST about wrong memory size and low battery power). I then go into BIOS and indeed load the optimal settings and can then continue normal startup.
Why would clearing the CMOS with the jumper have any effect?
    Thanks for your trouble.

  • IMessage problem | turns off after phone power off

Each time I power off my phone or it runs out of battery iMessage switches to off setting and asks me to send the activation text message. This leads to extra cost each time I close my phone. The phone also asks me for my itines password each time it is turned on.

    Hi
The powersaver software is not responsible at all for this behaviour.
The BIOS is good that you checked because this would be the first thing I would recommend.
Next step is however not so funny : service.
That's the only thing to do - the machine should absolutely be able to keep working when you unplug it if the battery has enough capacity.
Software-wise there is nothing you could do since it is not involved in theese pretty low level things.

  • Playlist restarts after turning power off

Whenever I power my iPod Touch off completely and then turn it back on, I lose my place in my playlist. I suppose it isn't that big of a problem, but I'm used to being able to get most of the way through my library before I had to start over in a playlist. So I'm a bit irritated that I keep having to restart the playlist.
I know if I were to put it into Standby mode I could avoid this, but I'd really prefer not to do that as I feel it needlessly wastes my battery (though I could be wrong in this).
Is there any way to avoid this? I'd really appreciate any help; this is driving me mad.

Good to know it's not just me having this problem. Thanks for the commiseration.
I've been having a similar problem using a remote where after pausing and then un-pausing, the playlist starts over as well. I imagine the problem is in a similar vein and can hopefully be taken care of by the same fix. I hope they get on that quickly, as it's starting to annoy me.

  • Weird problem XP freezes after system was off for several hours after upgrading to X

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G, Athlon 64 X2 3800 AM2, GB PC 3200, XFX Geforce 7600GT, 80 GB system dri've Barracuda 7200, Sata Raid 2x 300 GB Maxtor DiamondMax0, PSU Seasonic 600W, Ralink Wireless PCI card, Sony floppy, Pioneer DVR
After the installation of the new soundcard I could reboot initially but not reboot when I used the PC a few hours/next day later. The blue XP indicator bar would freeze. Tried several re-installs. Then I re-installed everything including XP from the beginning. When re-installing the graphics card driver (old and latest version) system would hang with a blinking cursor.
I also updated BIOS successfully to F6. Full re-installation -everything seemed to work. Re-booted several times- OK. Booted a few hours later- XP freezes when blue indicator bar has ben running for a few seconds.
I have now the latest drivers for both soundcard, graphics card, BIOS and latest DirectX installed. I cannot understand why the system would reboot immediately after installation but freeze a few hours later. Is this some kind of hardware problem ?
my friend and I using same components and we both have same problem!!
REMOVING the X-Fi card solves the problem

Ok, tried these installations:?Clean XP Install --> Mainboard Drivers --> Video Drivers --> Audio DriversClean XP Install --> Video Drivers --> Mainboard Drivers --> Audio DriversClean XP Install --> Audio Drivers --> Mainboard Drivers --> Video Drivers?I continued with several other reinstalls. After each one, Windows had NO PROBLEM rebooting and loading into the XP desktop. IF you turned off the PC, though, and back on again, Windows would lock up at the loading screen with the scrolling blue bar. Likewise, I still encountered the blinking cursor error when installing the video drivers AFTER the audio drivers but not vice versa. Either way, when I turned off the PC for the 'ultimate' deciding-test, X-Fi would not allow Windows to post. I pulled the X-Fi card out and voila, Windows loaded with no problems whatsoever. Of course I had no sound because they weren't the drivers for an SB Li've! 24-bit, you get the idea. I had no idea stupid NForce4 boards were incompatible with certain X-Fi products (and vice versa). Can anyone suggest some alterior sound cards that would work with mine and the second posters board? Or, recommend a suitable mainboard that is relati'vely 'new' and works flawlessly with the X-Fi series, so I don't run into a stupid issue like this again? I daresay, Creative, I've been a longtime supporter of your cards for YEARS, all the way back to 995 and THIS is unbelievable. One last question, has ANYONE tried the Fatalty series X-Fi on an actual Fatalty series mainboard?Message Edited by cookiemanx on 2-05-20062:08 AM

  • Photoshop Button in Active State Returns to Normal After Rollover?

    Hello,
I'm working on a glossary reference website in Muse, and have hit a roadblock with my photoshop buttons.
I have created menu buttons in Photoshop that have two different states - one for active and rollover, and another for normal and down (the button is actually saved with four different layers/states, one for each, but for what the user will see, it's really only two options). I've used these menu buttons as rollover triggers for blank compositions, and when the user rolls over the button, the name of the page appears below it, and then disappears on rollout (otherwise the names would overlap and it would look very cluttered).
The issue that I have found is that, when I preview the page in my browser, the buttons appear to function properly in that they show up in the active state indicating that the page that they are linked to is the one that they are on.
    Initial View - Home Page:
...and when I rollover the image of the page that I am currently on, the button shows the name of the page as desired, like so:
However, when I rollout, the button reverts back to the normal/down state, even though I am still on the home page.
Below is a screenshot of the composition settings that I have set up for this widget. I tried switching the "Hide Target" to none, but since the target is referring to the word "Home", the word "Home" remained visible in addition to the button remaining in the active state, which is not what I want. I also tried selecting "Triggers on Top", but the issue was not solved here either.
What am I missing? How can I make sure that my button remains in the active state when on the page that it is linked to?
    Thanks for your help!
    Rachel

Sounds like a bug that's the fallout of the overloaded meaning of "Active" state. "Active" is both the state used for an item with a hyperlink applied that points to the current page (or an anchor point in the current scroll range on the current page) and the state used for a trigger or thumbnail in a Composition or Slideshow widget that corresponds to the a current active item in the composition or slideshow.
It appears we honor the hyperlink definition of "Active" on page load for a composition trigger with a hyperlink to the current page applied, but don't honor that definition of active when transition to having no items in the composition active (or presumable when transition to having a different item in the composition active).
The only workaround that comes to mind would be the very tedious approach of replicating this composition widget on each page, removing the hyperlink on the "active" trigger and manually formatting it's "Normal" state to appear active.
I've written up the bug. However, it may not get fixed immediately. (We tend to collect smaller fixes in an area and then address them all at once or when other changes are planned in that area, due to the overhead involved in ramping up to work on an area and thoroughly retest it after changes.)
