Canon 6D Raw Files won't open in PSE10

Can't open raw images in PSE 10 from EOS_Digital. I'm using a Mac, Mavericks operating system, which is up to date. Have got a new camera, Canon 6D.  No problem previously with Canon 60 D.  I've downloaded LR5 but rather confused with it, so went back to my original way of editing via EOS Digital and PSE 10 which would always open up the raw files before but now won't?

The Canon 60D requires Camera Raw 6.2 which is compatible with Elements 10 and later. So you can open 60D Raw files in Elements 10.
The Canon 6D requires Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with Elements 11 and later. So you'll never be able to open 6D Raw files in Elements 10..
You must either a) upgrade to the latest version Elements 12.
Or b) first convert all your 6D Raw files to DNGs using the free Adobe DNG converter. That adds an extra step to your workflow. Then you can open and edit the DNGs in Elements 10.

  • Canon CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I'm using a Canon EOS 600D (aka EOS Kiss X5), Photoshop CS4 (ver 11.0.1) with Camera Raw 5.7.0.213.
CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop, though the thumbnails are clearly visible and open in Windows Explorer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Yes, absolutely all of the quality and dynamic range is retained in the DNG, because it is still raw data.
Outside of upgrading to Photoshop CS5, which can open your files directly with Camera Raw 6.4.1, your only choice is the extra step of converting the .CR2 files to .DNG with the free DNG converter.
While you'll get all the quality your Camera Raw 5.x converter can deliver, you should keep in mind the Camera Raw 6.x converter has an entirely new, additional "2010 process" for converting raw images, which (depending on your settings) can actually deliver a higher quality conversion than the one you're getting with Photoshop CS4.  I think it's worth the cost of the Photoshop upgrade, personally.

  • Canon 5D Raw files won't open

I'm using Photoshop CS3 and cannot open RAW files from my Canon 5D. I've followed the directions from Adobe on installing the latest version of Camera RAW, however it still does not work. Another odd thing is that when I check Help -> About Plug-In -> Camera RAW it lists my version as being 2.0, not 4.3.1. I've now tried installing it twice and neither time has anything changed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Murray,
Something here simply does not make sense. ACR 2.0 isn't even the last version that was created for Photoshop CS. It isn't available for download anywhere. It shipped with Photoshop CS, and the final update version was 2.4. That is the only version of ACR for Photoshop CS that is available for download. It is not compatible with any later versions of Photoshop. That is why your dilemma is so puzzling.
Are you sure you are seeing 2.0 as the version of ACR, or could it possibly be your version of Bridge? At the top of the Camera Raw forum there is a link to the current version of Camera Raw (version 4.3.1 currently) and that is the one that you need. When you go to that link there is another link to a readme file that provides exact instructions on where to install the plug-in. It has to be put precisely in the folder specified, or it will not work. And you must get rid of the older version that is already there, or should be there. Don't try to store the older version in a subfolder in the Adobe folder structure because that will cause problems as well.
If you can let us know what operating system you are using and a few more details about your installation it will be a lot easier for someone to help you work through these problems.

  • •Canon EOS 5D Mark II Raw Files Won't Open?

I use PE 11 and normally shoot with Nikon cameras.  I recently used a friend's Canon #EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon Raw files will not open.  I found a Camera Raw plug-in (5.2) that addresses this but am concerned this plug-in will override the camera raw plug-in already installed to read my Nikon files.  Is this a valid concern?

Thanks for your response.  What I think the problem was had to do with a couple of corrupted files.  The jpg versions displayed correctly but the raw files did nothing when they were selected.  I deleted 4 files that would not display and then randomly selected another which did.  All the remainder of 46 files display in PE.  I might have a bad CF card on my hands even though it is new.  I’ll send it to Lexar for examination.
Good to know the question forum works.  Thanks.

  • Some Canon CR2 RAW Files Will Not Open In Elements 8

I use a Canon 7D DSLR.  Up until 30 minutes ago I never had a problem opening Canon CR2 RAW files in Photoshop Elements 8.
Some files still open others do not.  I can think of only one thing.  I was shooting a large number of frames and reduced the RAW Image size down from RAW Large Only to RAW Medium with Small Jpeg to give me more room on the Compact Flash Card.
The Large RAW only CR2 files open fine in PSE 8, the Jpegs open fine, but the smaller sized CR2 files will not open and I get a wrong file type message in PSE8.
Any ideas why this would happen?  I suspect it is a function of the camera setting, but all RAW files download as CR2 files.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.  Needless to say I am resetting my camera back to Large RAW files only.
    Alex

ACR 5.x only supported full-sized 7D RAWs, but ACR 6.x supports 7D mRAW and sRAW, so just update to the latest version of the plugin, following the PSE-specific instructions:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
sRAW and mRAW files are not RAWs because the camera has already demosaicked them to RGB and encoded them as lossless JPG.
Here is technical information on the reduce-sized RAWs:

  • Canon Raw files won't open

I cannot view raw files from my Canon 1000d camera. It shows a preview during transfer, yet when trying to open them in iphoto9 the raw file remains black. JEPG's work fine. Furthermore, I cannot open the raw files in Photoshop CS4, I get error message CS4 does not recognise the file type. I have downloaded compatibility download 3.3 from your support page and 5.2 from Adobe, with no effect. My old camera 400D worked fine with no issues. Help.

Ok, I found a page on how to reinstall the drivers, but it didn't help.
After some experimentation, I discovered that the problem is not with RAW files but RAW+JPEG files from my Canon EOS Rebel XL/1000D. The camera is listed on the supported cameras page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475. And I have read other posters saying they have imported RAW+JPEG files into iPhoto without problems.
I imported a RAW-only photo and it worked correctly, showing the thumbnail during import and in the library, and then opening properly. But RAW+JPEG photos show a black thumbnail during import and in the library, and then open as black rectangles. Also, the black rectangles labeled as the RAW files are the same exact size as their corresponding JPEGs (~3MB), whereas the RAW-only file is 10MB.
This means my RAW data was never actually imported and would have been lost forever if I had actually erased the old photos from my SD card. We're talking about photos of my daughter's birth!
I'm going to try opening the SD card on a PC to import the data and see if I can extract the RAW stuff then transfer it to my iMac. This is sad.

  • D600 Raw files won't open in LR but will in CS6. Help appreciated :)

Hi, I am having trouble opening my D600 raw files in LR 3.6. I transfered the images directly from my camer onto my hard drive.  The images open fine in CS6 so I know they are not corrupted. What am I missing? Thank you!

D600 support was added in Lightroom 4.3, so 3.6 won't understand them.
    You have 2 options:
    1.  Upgrade to LR4 (worth it anyway!!!!)
    2.  Use CS6 or the standalone DNG converter to convert the files to DNG format (older spec) which LR3 will then understand.
I'd go with the LR upgrade personally.

  • My RAW-files won't open

    Hello there!
Reasently I bought a new camera, a Canon EOS 100D and it was quite a surprise when I noticed that my RAW-files from my new camera wouldn't open in my PS CS5. Any one knows how to fix this problem? Without buying a new PS version. Thanks for any help.

You can download the free DNG converter. Otehrwise indeed upgrading to a newer version of Ps is your only otion if you wnat to open them directly.

  • Canon 70D Raw files will not open in Elements 11

My canon 40d camera works with Element 11 in raw.....upgraded to a 70d only to find that it wont open with raw...any chance there will be an update soon for this popular canon 70d.

The EOS 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2 (the Adobe plug-in used by Elements to process Raw files) which is only compatible with Elements 12 and later.

  • Edited Raw Files Won't Open In CS4

I run Lightroom v 3.3 and now that I have sorted out a CS$ problem I am unable to open an edited nikon raw file in CS$ via the option Photo/edit in/CS4. I get this message 'Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected files at volume/........ for editing. It will not be opened.
So whilst I used to be able to open seamlessly and edit raw images in CS4 after doing work in LR3.3 I cannot now do so. Is it an issue with Lightroom (I suspect it is) or a setting in my camera D3s?
Just prior to this I could not open these same files in CS4 without a serious degradation in the colour but corrected that by unchecking 'compensate for scene-referred profiles' in colour management in CS4.
I am Mac with latest snow leopard OS.
    Can anyone advise, please?

Sorry You can actually upgrade to Camera Raw 5.6
Delete the existing Camera Raw 8bi file from the File Formats Folder before starting
    Click and download the plug-in
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see the plug-in file you need. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 6\File Formats\
Note: Before you start the download you need to do some preparation. Navigate to the File Formats File on the Laptop and move Camera Raw.8bi I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents or drag it to the desktop before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If your laptop is running a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

  • Raw files won't open

i updated my camera body since originally purchasing cs6 and now i can't open files in photoshop or camera raw

  • 7D mark II raw files won't open using CS5. Help.

Have you tried the Adobe DNG converter program?  You can download it from them.

  • Nikon D810 9mp raw files won't open

Apple released an RAW update for Nikon D810 cameras. How long until the 9MB RAW files have an update?

Yes, you are correct about the small RAW files.
The primary problem that I have is that I have already taken the photos. In other words I'm looking to edit/process photos that I have already taken. The shoot is done. Finished. And I can't open them in Aperture.
Once I figured out that the smaller raw files can't be opened with Aperture, I switched to the full sized raw setting. So I'm good for processing future photos.
Anyone have any news about raw update for small, 9mp d810 raw files?

  • Camera Raw Files won't open into Photoshop CC

I'm having intermittent problems with Camera Raw and/or Photoshop CC.  Here's my flow...
    1.  Open Adobe Bridge and double click on the NEF file I want.
    2.  File opens into Camera Raw
    3.  I make adjustments
    4.  I click on Open Object (whether or not smart object is checked in preferences)
    5.  Nothing happens...it just goes back to the thumbnail in Adobe Bridge
My Camera Raw preferences are set:  "Automatically open JPEGs with settings"
    Camera Raw Version 8.2.0.94
    Adobe Bridge Version 5.0.2.4
    Photoshop CC Version 14.1.2 x64
    Nikon D7100
Does anybody know how to rectify this?  I'd appreciate the help!  I'm sure it's probably something simple I'm overlooking, but sometimes it seems to work...that's what makes me wonder.

  • I just installed PSE 11 and my raw files won't open. They opened in 10 but not with 11?

I just installed PSE 11 and there is no camera raw. PSE 10 worked fine. Any help?

Sounds to me like the file is probably corrupt. If you had hard drive corruption or damage, that could easily result in recovered files not being fully intact. If you were trying to recover accidentally deleted files, it's possible they might have been partially overwritten before recovering. There are never any guarantees with file recovery.
Without more information on the circumstances that led you to try recovery, it's hard to give advice on what to try from here. You could always try another file recovery tool, like Data Rescue 3. Just be sure you're taking appropriate precautions when doing recovery. See Recovering deleted files.
