Canon 6d tethering in lightroom

Hi there
I'd be great to know if the next updated version of Lightroom (4.4) will support my canon 6d for tethered shooting via USB, also when this is likely to be available to download?
Thanks very much.

Updates are usually every 3-4 months.  4.3 was announced as an RC on November 8 and a final release on 12 December, so you can take your own guesses based on that.
Adobe don't announce what will be in the next release though, so no one can tell you whether tether support for the 6d will be available or not, sorry.

Can anyone tell me when Lightroom will support tethering on the Canon D70?

Its as if Adobe operates under a don't ask dont't tell policy. They do not normally anounce when a particular function will be supported. Support for raw files for new camera models are issued approximately every three months. Thether support not quite as often.

  • Canon 5d mark III  tethered to Lightroom 4

Any info on when canon 5d mark III will be able to worked tethered in Lightroom 4

You know Adobe needs to give money to the camera manufactures so they can have access to a special SDK's that allows ADOBE to develop software that the manufacturers are not willing to develop themselves. The ability to tether in Lightroom with my 5dMKIII is just one of the features that I am missing out on. I have a cobbled workaround, but it is lame. Capture one can tether a 5d mkIII but they have some weird stipulations, for example they cannot bring a Raw M or Raw S file into the application. The Canon SDK for the new gen of Cameras is really a tough nut to crack, so it seems. Speaking to Julieanne Kost in person she say the tethering option is not available and she does not know when it will be available. She didn't give me specifics, she did say if more customers complain about not having the feature that the Lightroom team would make it a priority. So Here goes, Dear Lightroom Team Please get your stuff together and make tethering in Lightroom 4 a top Priority!

  • Tethered to Lightroom auto-rotation issue

Hi, I'm using a canon EOS 1D Mark III tethered to Lightroom via EOS utility. When I shoot, at the time of capture/import lighroom doesn't display my vertically shot images as verticals, rather horizontals. I've tried to toggle with the auto-rotate setting in camera (trying all 3 settings) and nothing has changed. What am I doing wrong?

Yes there is...actually after posting this problem, I realized that my issue was that "rotate image" under the "remote shooting" menu in prefs of EOS util was ticked on. It should be ticked off.

I can't see previews of RAW images from a Canon PowerShot G16 in Lightroom 4?

For that camera, you need at least Lightroom 5.2. The alternative would be to use the DNG converter, version 8.2 or later. Or, you can upgrade to Lightroom 5.

And the advantage or reason for doing this?  Aren't all the files going to wind up on the computer anyway?  Where I might add, they are much safer?  I thether to LR a lot especially when I do school yearbook group shots.  Personally, I prefer my files off the camera as soon as possibile.
As a computer person, I agree with you, at least in principle. But I think the OP's position is that whatever else you do, it's best to capture the image as soon as possible and as close as possible to where it was formed. Sending it to the computer as well is great for redundancy, but sending it only to the computer involves a risk, however small, that it will be garbled in transit. That said, you're apt to notice it right away if something does go wrong. But it you used to be able to send the image to both places, why can't you do so anymore?
FWIW, I suspect that the answer may be that the computing power of the camera is somehow challenged by the extra transfer, thus slowing the process down.

  • Tethering in Lightroom with MK III - Can't keep original file names

    Hello,
I am shooting a Canon Mark III to Lightroom 3.3 with RAW 6.3 on OS 10.5.8.  All I want to do is insert custom text in front of the original file name from the camera.  I cannot even seem to get Lightroom to allow the images to maintain the naming from the camera.  The options "filename", "original file number" and "sequence" all rename the files in accordance with Lightroom preferences.  I want to keep the naming from the camera and simply add custom text in addition to it.  I would be pleased to even learn if Lightroom can accept the name from the camera as it does not seem able to do so.  No matter what I select, input, or leave out, Lightroom seems to rename the file in some way or another.
The problem with most of the naming conventions in Lightroom is that the numbers seem to reset when the camera gets turned off.  "Sequence" is the only setting that maintains a consistent and ascending count even if the camera is turned off then back on but it still doesn't reflect the camera settings which most photographers prefer to leave on continuous.  While this affords a temporary solution, it does not fix the issue that we would prefer to see the original filename and number that the camera puts out.  I have tested all the filename settings in Lightroom (including inputting nothing) and can't seem to get the actual original camera written filename to show up.  PLEASE HELP!
It is hard to imagine that any software this powerful, especially from Adobe, could overlook and fail to execute something so crucial and basic as simply not overwriting the file info from the camera.
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello,
original file name is only stored in the lightroom catalog file. This means, the original filename is stored in your LR4 catalog! After you upgraded to LR5 you simply have to open the LR4 catalog and LR5 will convert the catalog into an LR5 catalog.
I hope, you still have an LR4 catalog backup (before you removed all images)? Otherwise original file name is lost.

  • When shooting tethered in Lightroom, my tech is editing previous shot images ....

When shooting tethered in Lightroom, my tech is editing previous shot images, but when I shoot another image, that image pops up instead. is there a way to stop the last shot image automatically pop up, so my tech can continue working on the last image?
    thanks!

Have the tech move the photo upon which they are working into the Quick Collection [ B ]. As long as he is in the QC, the photo won't advance while you continue to shoot.

  • How do you import photos from a Canon EOS 60d into Lightroom without distortion of photos?

Is there a plug in needed or how does one get the photos from Canon EOS camera into Lightroom?  My come through looking distorted and noisy.

    Ok, full story...
I have a Canon EOS 60D and was editing in DPP software that came with the camera.
I wanted more editing options so I bought Lightroom.
All of a sudden photos that look good at home were being sent to printer and I was being told they couldn't print them at all. If I take the exact same photo, import it into the DPP software and edit it to look good on my computer and send it to the same printer they print it with no issues.
I was selling on Deposit Photos some, now they won't even accept my photos the quality is so bad. But again, same photo edited in DPP they accept again.
THere are two issues I am having, the one going to the printer or deposit photos is they leave my computer looking bright and good to me and get to the other site so dark you can't see the photo at all.
The biggest issue I have been noticing is if I shoot with 200, 320 or 400 ISO, they look very fuzzy and I thought pixelated at first.  After reading forums with other Canon users having the same issue, people are saying it isn't true pixelation.  That the real problem is Lightroom not being able to intrepret the data so they look like there is a lot of noise and I have a bad picture.
Before reading forums, I had also emailed Canon to see if there was an issue with my camera.  This was Canon's reply.... If you are recording RAW image files, are you using the Canon software to convert them to jpg or a third party program?  Sometimes programs like Lightroom and Photoshop do not interpret the files correctly and the result could be noise or a colorshift.  Please make sure that you are using the latest version of the RAW plugin for which ever software application you are using, or try using the Digital Photo Professional software included on the EOS Solution disk.
I use Lightroom 4 and it has been updated regularly to the latest updates as they come out.
I shoot in RAW only and never shoot above 400 ISO, usually 160-320 range.
I have taken the same photos at 400 ISO and opened them in the DPP software and there is no noise at all, nice and clear.  I am only having this issue when I put them into Lightroom.
I would really prefer to edit in LIghtroom as you have a lot more creative options there but there has to be something I need to do that they work in Lightroom as they do in DPP.  I have also used NERO in the past with no issues.  The printer person I send to is accepting them in Photoshop.
Do I need to purchase some sort of plugin to have them work in Lightroom? Distortion was a bad choice of word, more fuzzy noise look then true distortion, sorry about that confusion.
    Thanks
    Ann

  • Canon 5D Tethering

Why is my Canon 5D not supported for tethering?

If you have a very old (and 32 Bit Operating System) and an old version of Lightroom (4.1 or earlier) you can tether a Canon 5D MK1.
The short answer is there is a lock of OS support (Canon Driver for 64 bit).  I don't think the Canon SDK kit upon which Adobe depends for the hooks into system supports the older cameras any longer.

  • Tethering with lightroom: performance issue

    hi guys,
i am shooting raw, tethered from a canon 5d mark II, directly into lightroom 2 on a macbook pro.
even though i am maxed out on RAM and, running no extra processes, and using a USB2.0 cable
the whole setup is slooooooooow as hell...
    my questions are:
    - what is holding the system back? is lightroom simply not optimized for tethering?
    - are there ways to improve performance for the mac?
    moreover,
has anyone created a comparison table to show the options for tethering, with cost, benefits and drawbacks?
if not, maybe we can do so here with this post.
    best wishes,
    ~nir pengas.

It's the Mac implementation of Canon's software and the Apple USB 2 connection. Want to seriously speed up tethering on a Mac? Install Bootcamp and run Windows. And, if you think I'm kidding, I'm not...it's what Martin Evening does. On a Mac (running OS X), a Canon 1Ds MIII takes about 9 seconds to transfer. On Windows (on the exact same Mac mind you), the transfer speed is just a bit under 2 seconds...
So, go ask Apple and Canon what's up with the USB 2 connections under OS X...

  • Canon G9 tethered

Can I shoot tethered with my Canon G9 and Lightroom alone?  I'm having trouble getting it to work, so I am a little annoyed.  I open Lightroom, plug in my camera, turn it on.  It flashes a few times shows a preview on the LCD screen and then turns off. The lens never comes out.  Even if I have the camera on and ready to shoot and then plug it in, it flashes and the lens retracts.
Can anyone give me some advice?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Compatibility between OS10.5.3 and Canon 1DsII tethered shooting.

I have commented on the lack of support between Apple and Canon regarding the Canon software. Now that 10.5.3 is released, I am hesitant to install until I have a specific question answered. Has anyone shot tethered between a 1DsII with EOS Utility 2.4 and 10.5.3? I am using Lightroom as my image browser and DPP only as a last resort. People may be successfully using a 5D or other 1 Series body but Canon even has a disclaimer on the Utility download page regarding my camera.
    Thanks in Advance,
    TC

What people have discovered with many digital cameras is direct tethering does not work as well as just pulling out the media card and plugging that in a USB or Firewire card reader for the media card. I would recommend trying that if you have difficulty otherwise reading tethering digital cameras. Thankfully many media readers by Sans Disk have had pretty solid compatibility no matter what the operating system update is. Since 10.5.3 has just been released, it may be best to just find out if the media card for your camera has 10.5.3 compatible reader.

  • Canon 5D Mark III -- Lightroom 4.1 - Edit in Adobe Photoshop not working

Hello, I appoligize if this has already been answered, I couldn't find a solution.  I have the new Canon 5D Mark III, and I updated to Lightroom 4.1 so I can import the 5D3 RAW image into LR.  But when I go to "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" or "Merge to HDR Pro in PhotoShop", PS starts, but it doesn't load any files. I was assuming this is because the PS Camera Raw is out of date. So I downloaded the cameraraw6-7_r1_win_030612, but when try to install it, I get "Some updates failed to install. Update is not applicable".
    What am I missing here?

    Hi Tim,
Please refer to the link below which says:
Set the camera to Print/PTP. Images don't import when the camera is set to PC Connect.
