Canon 7d Mark II files

I have canon 5d mark 3 and import files using LR 4.4 and CS5 with camera raw 7.4   Will I be able to use the same software when importing Canon 7d Mark II?

The new camera requires Lightroom 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7. If you want to continue to use the same software you have now then you will have to use DNG converter 8.7 to create DNG copies of your raw files. Other options include:
Purchase Photoshop CS6
Upgrade to Lightroom 5.7
Join the creative cloud photography package.
Just shoot JPEG (I know, not an option)

  • CS6/ACR 7.x not recognizing Canon 5d Mark 3 files previously edited in same version. Help?

Why are my previously edited canon 5d mark 3 raw xmp files no longer recognized and all sliders set to zero? I can see the xmp files associated with the raw file in their folder. The files were originally edited in CS6/ACR 7.x -in July 2012 - and recently re-opened in the same CS6/ACR 7.x.
The canon 5d mark 2 files from the same time/event are showing up fine. I have updated everything, but both before and after the update, same issue with the Mark 3 files.
    On a side note:
We have found that opening mark 2 files (that were originally edited in CS4 / ACR 5.7) in CS 6 / ACR 7.x and making any changes such as color coding causes all previous xmp information being zero'd out in the mark 2 xmp file. Not sure if this is a symptom of the same problem? Except the difference here is the Mark 3 files have never been touched outside of version CS6/ACR7.x - however the folder which holds both mark 2 & mark 3 files from the same event has been opened in the CS4 / ACR 5.7 window but without touching the files. By opening the folder in CS4 I can see that the Mark 3 files aren't reading and then know this event was originally edited in CS6/ACR 7.x
    Specifics:
    PS CS6 13.0.4 x64
    Mac OSX 10.6.8
Canon 5d Mark 3 Raw files
This is the first time in these circumsances that this issue has presented itself.
Any insight would be much appreciated
    Thank you!

First check to make sure your view mode in ACR is set to Image Settings, not Camera Raw Defaults.  This is accessible as the top item or three in the menu that comes up when you click the little threelines-arrow icon at the right of the tabs title bar, for example to the right of the word Basic.
Otherwise, did you switch your Camera Raw settings location to be the central database instead of XMP files and/or are you on a different computer that might have a different metadata storage location?
Open up one of the XMP files in a text editor, perhaps one that hasn’t had a picture opened for it, recently, yet, and see if you see any non-zero settings.  Also take note of the last file creation time.  This will help determine if the XMP files, themselves, have been written with ACR defaults or if they are just being ignored.
Also, check the date and timestamps of a CR2 and XMP file that hasn’t been opened, recently, and see if the XMP date/time is before the CR2 date/time.  There has been a bug, not sure in LR or PS, where if the XMP file date is BEFORE the raw-file date, then the XMP is ignored so maybe that could be happening.  If it is a LR bug, then have the files been edited in LR, which might have ignored the XMP files and the rewritten things with the LR default settings?
If no explanation can be found on your side, can you zip up a raw and its corresponding XMP, preferably one that’s not been looked at, recently, then put them online somewhere like http://www.dropbox.com/ and reply with the public download link, so others can take a look?
What version of Camera Raw are you using?  ACXR 7.4 just came out this week.

  • Camera Raw stopped opening Canon 5d Mark II files

After working for a few weeks, Camera Raw has stopped opening Canon 5D Mark II files. Says it is not a readable file format but I know the files are not corrupt because they will open in the Canon utility.
    Help appreciated.
I have already reloaded the latest version of Camera Raw from the updates.

    Hi There
I encounter problems with the RAW format also in Bridge / Camera RAW / Photoshop.
In my case the show up corrupt (at random, this means that some are fine and some show corrupt/damaged).
I have encountered your problem also, I think this was solved by updating both the canon software and the adobe software.
At the first time opening bridge after updating it took a bit longer and then the images started to show.
But obviously there is a problem with Adobe software combined with Canon EOS 5D Mark II.
So my advice .... update Canon and Adobe software to the latest versions.
Restart computer a couple of times.
Open bridge and then open a folder with Canon EOS 5D Mark II pictures, walk away and drink a cup of coffee and then the images should visualise.
This longer time for showing the images only occured the first time opening a folder with 5DMark II images. It looks like the program has learned something and after that the thumbnails show as fast as with other Canon cameras.
    At least, at my computer....
    best regards

  • Canon 7D Mark II files won't open in bridge or photoshop

I am using photoshop CS5 and purchased a canon 7D Mark II and my files won't open. I updated to the photoshop 8.7.1 and my files still won't open. How do I fix this?

Assuming you mean ACR (Adobe Camera Raw plug-in) 8.7.1, not "Photoshop" what you write makes no sense.
ACR 8.7.1 needs at least CS6 to run.  You will never be able to open your raw files from that camera directly in CS5.  There will be no further updates for the obsolete, unsupported CS5 applications.
You have to go the free, stand alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1.  Locate it, download it, install it and then launch and run it on ever folder of raw files to convert them to raw DNGs you can then open in your CS5 setup.

  • Canon 5D Mark 11 files and iMovie

Regular forum readers would be aware of the problems that I have been having with iMovie 08 crashing when editing the .MOV files from my Canon 5D mark 11.
I went into my Mac reseller yesterday and ran a series of test movies on 2 of their new Macs. Same problems on both of them - iMovie imports the files and plays them OK but crashes once the cursor is run along the clip - it seems to lag and have trouble keeping up with the movement of the mouse - then crashes. Also tried it in Final Cut Express and it too can't cope with displaying the footage when the timeline is dragged along the clip - it crashes.
It appears that the 40 mbit/s MPEG4 and H.264 codec used in the 1920x1080 full HD files created by the Canon 5D mark 11 is just too much for these applications. Not sure where to go to from here!

    Hi
This is iMovie HD 6 - forum
iMovie 1 to HD 6 is for and only for miniDV (tape) or DV-PRO = streamingDV
To get it to work with Your Camera the movies has to be converted to this.
Program that might be of help is.
    • Upgrade QuickTime to Pro
    • add the QT. mpeg4 component
    • MPEG-Streamclip
    • Flip4Mac from www.flip4mac.com
    BUT THIS IS PURE Guessing
    iMovie'08 - try that forum

  • .mov file from Canon 5D Mark II file blurry in Timeline

Haven't use FC in quite a while, so I'm a bit rusty.
When I import a clip into FC, it looks fine in the Viewer, but when I move it into the timeline it looks blurry in the Canvas. It remains blurry even after rendering and even after exporting with no compression. The file is a .mov file from a Canon 5D Mark II. I tried exporting it from QT as a QT file with no compression, as well as just importing the uncompressed .mov file, but nothing works. I'm sure it's something simple.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Cannot open Canon 5D mark III files, but I can open MarkII Cr2s

Any updates for the mark III

If your using pse 10 then you'll have to wait for camera raw 6.7 to come out of beta.
In the meantime you could download the 6.7 dng converter and convert your mark III files to
dng copies which will then open in photoshop elements:

  • Lightroom 5 is auto-developing our canon 7d raw files but not the canon 5d mark 3 files upon import.

Lightroom 5 is auto-developing raw files upon import on the canon 7d but not on the canon 5d mark3. I would prefer to do individual file developing in the develop module.

Go into preferences, select the Presets tab. Hit "Reset all Default Develop Settings". You probably by accident set a default Develop for the 7D. Also check that you don't have a preset selected in the import dialog.

  • Better playback of  Canon 5D Mark 2 footage in 4.1?

    Hi,
since the update installations gives me errors all the time (my post here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/439764?tstart=0 ), I can't verify this myself:
The readme of the PPro update say, that h.264 playback/handling is improved. So I was wondering, if the playback of native Canon 5D mark 2 files falls into this section also.
I'm not talking about proxies or cineform's neo etc. I mean the raw quicktime footage from the camera...native...
Since Canon annaunced yesterday that FULL MANUAL control (aperture, ISO, shutter) will be availible on june 2nd, this is pretty much the last (and 25p support in the cam) hurdle for editing the 5DII footage.
    Please let us know!

I would try it out right away, but I'm not able to update my Production Premium for about 4 hours now. Well, I can download it, but the instalation quits with 3 errors. I made an extra post about it, but so far nobody seems to have the same issue.
I read that somebody had some other issues with instalation, so maybe the uploded files aren't that "perfect" because adobe wanted it up by the end of may (like they said the would
I've seen a few comments on installation errors already. Hope that that gets solved. It would be tough finally getting the long-awaited 4.1, only to find that it would not install, and may even mess things up. Fingers X'ed here. I also hope that Adobe was 100% satisfied with their efforts, and there was no Midnight-coding, as it was headed out the door.
As for the footage from the Canon - I've only heard great things about it. Some of the after-market folk have already gotten on the bandwagon with all sorts of add-ons for it on the video side. There were a couple of interesting ads in last month's American Cinematographer. Apparently some companies feel that there will definitely be a market for "stuff" to use this camera and its lenses for doing some serious video work. Time will tell. Though I'm a Nikon-guy* on the still-side of life, this Canon does look sweet. Hope that 4.1 is all that users could ask for. Again, the fingers are X'ed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * since my wife went digital, all of her point-n-shoot still cameras have been Canon. Now, I do not store these in the same room with my Nikons, but I do like their choices better than what Nikon offers.

I need to get raw plugin for Canon 5D Mark iii for CS6  the adobe website has changed and I can not find the download.. it keeps looping me back to the product download page without the raw

Which operating system are you using?
Have you tried Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6 to get either camera raw 8.3 or 8.7.1, which should enable photoshop cs6 to open the canon 5D Mark III files.
(version of camera raw depends on your operating system)
If that doesn't work try one of the following camera raw plugin installers:
    Camera raw 8.7.1 plugin
    https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html
If you have windows xp or vista or mac os x snow leopard (10.6.8), then you'll have to use the camera raw 8.3 plugin installer:

  • CS5 Raw with Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 6D

I have CS5.  I recently upgraded my 5D Mark II to a 5D Mark III.  I also have a 6D.  I can't open my images in RAW.  Am I forced to purchase CS6?

    Hi,
You should be able to open the Canon 5D Mark III files into photoshop cs5 by updating to camera raw 6.7
    (Help>Updates from within photoshop cs5)
For the Canon 6D,  the 8.1 DNG converter should work by converting your 6D camera raw files to dng
copies which should then open in photoshop cs5.

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.
