Try:
do a factory reset on your scanner (check the manual for how)
go to System Preferences > Printers&Scanners > Scancontrol click on your scanner in the box on the left and select "Reset Print System..." and "Reset" in the dialog that follows.
key step: uninstall all other scanner manufacturer utilities or applications, i.e., uninstall Canon Utilities
I don't know if a restart is needed at this point, but it wouldn't hurt
go back to Printers&Scanners > Scan and let it download a driver from apple.
if this is a wifi scanner, you'll have to reconnect it to your network.
If this doesn't work, and it is a wifi connected scanner, try resetting your wifi:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and scanner
power up each item (in that order, modem, router, computer, and scanner); let each power up completely before going on to the next.
don't reinstall the Canon software. Just use the apple print dialogs in whatever app you are in, to print, and Image Capture.

  • Will Lightroom allow Scangear to pop up with Canon 8800f?

    I just bought Canon 8800f which comes with PSE 5.0. Very old version since 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 and 8.0 premium are out already. Adobe will not upgrade since it is bundled. Was thinking of PSE 8.0 but Adobe sales said Lr would be better. Problem is Lr may not allow Scangear to pop up since Canon's MP Navigator doesn't and only PSE 5.0 will allow it. Scan gear not stand alone.
    Also Lr has many posts of issues and I have win7 64 bit and don't want more headaches. Posts say PSE doesn't provide updates but newer versions where as Lr provides updates. Do not want spend a fortune on PS and really don't want to waste too much time on program I will use very little of. Only want to scan negative, slides and pictures and take red eye out, dust, scratches and tag for easy retrieval. I don't understand why Adobe makes it so difficult to do something most folks like to do basic scrapbooks but digitally.
    PSE 5.0 didn't come with a book or anything besides it is so limited and obsolete already with new scanner. When I tried to compare this version with the more up to date versions they don't even list it on the website it is so out of date. Why bother giving me an outdated software that doesn't have win7 drivers with no info how to operate it and no upgrade options? From my stand point it seem rather ridiculous .Is there a better scanning software I should use that is stand alone that will allow me to use whatever editing software. Do not say Acdsee, they are so behind the eight ball with win 7 they can't be taken seriously.Why would I buy Lr2 when the beta 3 has already been out for 5 months and still they are working out the bugs? Are they really that much of monopoly that they don't feel compelled to offer drivers for win7 or put out versions in a timely manner?

    I am ready to buy something that works and hoped it wouldn't be such trial and error involved. My scanner has been around for awhile and Win 7 has been out for awhile, I didn't expect to catch them off guard like this.
    Again the sales staff at Adobe recommend Lr over PSE 8.0 but not sure if Lr is really ready for Win 7 from other posts of folk having issues. Also didn't know if Lr will allow Scangear to pop up like PSE 8.0. That was my title of discussion and my question in post and reiterated here. I have asked Canon and no response really from their customer support. Well I bought it new from New Egg so I would expect it to be that old. It was new enough where they included installation directions for Win 7.
    The software that came with the Canon, MP Navigator will not allow scan gear to pop up so some do and some don't. I have read where some say you can't through Lr but you can with 8.0 so instead of just installing it I thought I would ask first.

  • Canon 8800F Scanner--How to turn off Image Capture???

    Hi
    I have a Canon 8800F flatbed scanner, I have the latest drivers and latest copy of MP Navigator EX.
    1) The buttons on the front of the scanner don't work.
    2) If Image Capture is open, then MP Navigator EX scanning doesn't work.
    Is there a way to stop Image Capture from trying to use the scanner?
    thanks

    1) I tried changing the Scanner Buttons in Image Capture to "MP Navigator EX 1.0 Opener"--that didn't do anything (upon pressing a button, I could tell something launched on my computer, but it didn't open/redirect-to MP Navigator).
    You don't select MP Opener in the menu. You just need this software installed to assist with getting the buttons to function correctly. MP Navigator needs to be selected in the Scan Button menu.
    2) I can get the buttons on the scanner to work if I do the following
    a) set Scanner Buttons to "MP Navigator EX" (not the Opener)
    b) make sure Image Capture is turned off
    c) MP Navigator must be shut down before each button press
    d) Click on "Close Main Menu after Scanning with Scanner Buttons on the Scanner" inside MP
    Okay, a is true. This is what I said to select in my previous reply.
    Regarding b, I find that when using the buttons on my LiDE 200, I don't have an issue if Image Capture is open, but then this application should not be open unless it is opened by you or a setting in the scanner settings.
    Regarding c, I don't have to close MP Navigator for each scan. I can leave the application open and keep adding more documents using the Scan button on the scanner.
    As for d, is this a Preference setting you are seeing in MP Navigator? I don't seem to have this setting...
    3) There is no way to change the setting in Image Capture to ignore the scanner.
    Considering that Image Capture is the default scanning application for 10.6, then it is not an easy task to ignore the scanner. But, if the application is not open, then it will ignore the scanner when you open MP Navigator or use the Scan button, providing you have the Scan Button set to open MP Navigator rather than Image Capture.
    Because of (2) above, you can't do multiple sheet PDFs via the buttons, you have to use the on-screen software to add pages and finish the doc.
    Like I said already, the button is working fine for me to add more than one page into MP Navigator. Maybe the setting you mention at d) is causing your symptom?

  • Another Canon 8800f post

    Guys I am very frustrated with my canon 8800f. I bought it last year because the one I use at work in the windows environment works great. I bought one for home and its the most frustrating device I have ever owned. I can't keep the thing working in either leopard or snow leopard. I have installed the new SL driver, mp navigator, and mp navigator opener. At first it works great. I scan fairly often but not every day. It seems if the scanner is turned off, cord disconnected, or the machine is rebooted I have to uninstall everything and reinstall everything. This stinks. I always get the same error, "error in scanner. Turn off and follow instructions in manual. Scanner will be closed (code 100) 250.0.00.
    Is there some trick or sequence on turn on/off scanner or opening associated apps. Can you use image capture or the mp navigator or do you have to pick one or the other? Should I put mp navigator opener in my login items? I am just about to the point of roof testing this thing and finding a new scanner?
    Any input on this would be greatly appreciated

    I think so Art. I use to keep the scanner on a shelf and hook it up only when I needed it. This seemed to cause a lot of problems. I would usually have to reinstall everything. After going through canons very confusing support site I downloaded new versions of all the software and now leave the scanner connected at all times. So far so good. I can scan using both canon's mp navigator or image capture inside osx. Honestly I still don't get a warm and fuzzy that it is always going to work. I have just had to much bad history with it. Let me say this, when used in a windows environment and when it works in osx it makes very good scans

  • Lion image capture not finding canon 8800f

    Hi
    I am running Lion on my IMac.  I connected a Cannon 8800F scanner.  Image capture does not show the device.   Went to the Cannon site and installed what they said was for 10.7  No luck.
    This is a really good scanner and nothing wrong with it.  Any ideas how to get it working?  It worked under Snow Lep/
    Thank you
    Larry

    Found the solution.  For Lion, you need to install the Canon driver for Snow Lep 10.6 then reboot.  Once that is complete, the scanner will show up as a valid device.

  • Copying from a Canon 8800F to a Canon ip4700

    I have a 'scan direct to printer' copying problem on my iMac. This only exists on my user account on my iMac. I set up another user account with admin privileges, and the set-up works perfectly. The set-up also works perfectly plugged into my MacBook. Thus proving that there is no Canon problem of OS10.6.3 system problem. FWIW, support from Canon has been excellent.
    I am unable in my user account on the iMac to set a default printer, which seems to be the root of the problem, as the scanning software doesn't then see a printer to print to. After 90 minutes on the 'phone to Apple Support, deleting, editing and substituting various Preference files in the HD and User libraries without success, they are as baffled as me (but are trying very hard, 10/10 for effort!).
    Any ideas most welcome.
    I know that I can reinstall SL (and updates) without needing to reinstall my apps and data, but SFAIK this OS reinstall will leave all my preferences as currently set, so I guess that it is unlikely to help. I'm due a call-back from Apple later today, so I will ask them the question.
    PS I could sort this out in XP in minutes! Grrrr!

  • Is Canon's CaptureOnTouch enough for DR-2010M scanner with Yosemite?

    Canon-Europe makes available for download the CaptureOnTouch ver. 1.4 for Mac, which it says is compatible with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).
    Is that all the software needed to allow the Canon ImageFormula DR-2010M scanner work with Yosemite? Or is a separate TWAIN driver also required?
    (Right now, I'm using CaptureOnTouch ver. 1.4 for Mac under OS X 10.9.5, with no problem. But I'm unsure whether I'd ever installed some additional driver.)

    Since I'm new to this VM thing...it sounds like it is NOT possible to save files in windows to the OSX partition? So every time I scan and save a file I'd need to drag and drop the file over from the VM window to a folder in OSX?
    That's correct. The Mac can see the Windows partition but Windows cannot see the Mac. So you will have to scan into a Windows folder first, but then drag that file from the scans folder directly into a Mac folder of choice. We were doing this with an old Canon film scanner until we got a new Canon 8800F.

  • PSE 12 for Mac doesn't see my scanner

    PSE12 for Mac refused to work with my scanner. In preferences I checked "Additional Plug-Ins Folder" and selected the Optional Plug-Ins Folder which contains the TWAIN.plugin. I restarted the PSE and the File> Import... command remains dimmed out. Tried resstarting the iMac and PSE still doesn't see the scanner. PSE 11 used to recognize the scanner right away. I hope this isn't a permanent change in PSE 12!
    Thanks for any help!
    OS X 10.8.5
    Canon 8800F Scanner
    TWAIN.plugin v12.0.4x001

    Hi Barbara - I reinstalled PSE 11 on my iMac and verified that it still works with the Canon 8800F scanner. I also installed PSE 12 on my Macbook Air, moved the Twain plug into the right spot, and found that it doesn't see the scanner either. Preview on the Macbook does see the scanner OK so it's not a connection problem there either.
    I noticed that the Twain plugins in PSE 11 and 12 are the same version but different sizes. The get info windows for the two versions of PSE on the iMac (Kahawalu) and the PSE 12 on the Airbook (Niumalu) are below. Would you be able to let me know the PSE 12 Twain file version and file size that is working with your Canon scanner? It might help narrow this thing down.
    Thanks again for your assistance!  William

    @dominic: I did the safe mode start and after the desktop appeard I did nothing and just shut down and start normally again. Is it that?  I was thinking that some window should have popped out of nowwhere and give me some diagnose... and tell me what to do... ?
    Then after a normal start I did the disk utility thing, I could only verify and not repair since it seems to be ok? :
    Then I tried the SMC reset according to the link you sent me, not sure if I did it right cause step 4 and 5 under
    Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own
    were somehow the same, after I released everything I didnt have to press power button separately (step5), the mac started already (after step4)
    @Lex: I'm really wondering about those two old applications
    1) I didn't find anything useful about camerawindow or canon tools, except that it helps connecting my canon powershot G15 camera with a smartphone... don't even says if it works with my camera model nor if it works with mavericks...
    2) ...Silverlight/OutOfBrowser/SLLauncher.app: Is it needed for what? After looking up it just said useful for webbrowsers, maybe better video quality etc. isn't that something good? if I delete it from my library will there e noteable differences when I use the internet?
    besides that i deleted and update like u suggested and did a check again:

  • Why is working with Adobe so frustrating?

    I am trying to import RAW CR2 files into Photoshop Elements 10. I have downloaded the DNG converter vs 7.1, which tells me that I need the Application manager to install.  I download the manager, only to be told there is a problem with it, download it again.
    I have now been going round in circles for an hour, and am no closer to being able to import and work on my RAW files than I was at breakfast time.
    Any help appreciated.  In an age when computer software is increasinly intuituve, I am finding working with Adobe extremely frustrating.

    It’s not clear. Do you wish to import your CR2 files or convert them to DNG. PSE10 will support all Canon cameras, except the 60DA provided you have updated to the latest camera raw plug in (From the Editor click Help >> Updates)
    So your options are (1) Update PSE 10. (2) Download, unzip and extract, and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE and other Adobe applications (keep your original CR2’s as backup or for use in Canon software) see the latest links below:
    Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.1
    Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.1
    You can convert a whole folder of CR2 images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Help! Acrobat XI Pro for MAC doesn't see my HP 4780 scanner.

    I know the scanner part of my HP C4780 works, both with Windows Acrobat 9 Pro and with all the other scanning functions on the Macbook Pro.
    I don't know what to do. This is one of the major functions I use Acrobat for, and now I can't get it to work.
    Help!

William

  • Scanned jpeg file crashes computer

    I have a Canon 8800F printer.  It's worked fine using Mavericks, but I just bought a new iMac that's running Yosemite (10.10.3) and it's been a nightmare.
    At first the 8800F wasn't showing up at all, but I found directions about resetting the printing system and reinstalling the scanner.  Now it shows up and I seemed to be able to scan using the Printers & Scanners system preference.
    What's strange/awful is that when I click on the jpeg file that's created by the scanner it crashes the computer.  I tried producing a tiff file instead, which opens up ok, but when I covert the tiff to jpeg the resulting jpeg file crashes the computer.
    The other thing that I don't see an option for scanning transparencies.  Under Mavericks I was using photoshop CS3, but that doesn't seem to be compatible with Yosemite.
    Help!

    I think that I discovered that this only happens when scanning at the highest resolution (9200).  It's not a RAM issue, as I have no problem opening the TIFF, which is much bigger than the jpeg.  Kind of a drag as I scan a lot of negatives and some single frames from proof sheets, and I've never had this problem before the new iMac/Yosemite.

  • Can't open the application "(null)" because it may be damaged or incomplete?

    Unable to get my Canon 8800F Scanner to connect or operate.  Had no problems before I downloaded the Maverick operating system.  This system has created several problems with email, etc.

    Niether of you are giving us enough information to go on.
    What is the Application?!
    You need to provide a link so we can at least see it is supported on 10.9.
    If it doesn't run it could be using old code that can't run on Mavericks (& we can't help you with third party code - contact the manufacturer) or the OS is blocking the app because it is not signed & Gatekeeper doesn't allow unsigned code to run.
    I would turn off Gatekeeper & see if it runs, however since you are not giving us any info on the app we can't even test this for you.
    Gatekeeper is inside the Security section of System Preferences setting it to "Anywhere" will disable it. Turn it back on after you test the app.

  • Scan/ Save/ Burn  Newbie

    This is my first post, so please excuse me if I do something wrong and the fact that it is long.
    Before I start I would like to say I spent hours trying to figure things out. Only to have my head hurt. I then decided to look through posts and solved a lot of the problem . Thanks to people like Terence, Old Toad, LarryHN and all the others that take time to answer questions us newbies don't know.
    My goal: to scan and save then burn my moms old photos and negatives.
    I have a Imac 0S X 10.4.11 and canon 8800f scanner . Software IPhotos, Adobe elements 4.0, Adobe bridge, Photostudio.
    I am not using adobe bridge( at least I don't think I am) because it will not work with IPhoto from what i have read. And I am also not using Photostudio.
    This is what I have come up with. I put a photo into scanner, open MP Navigator and Scan photo. I am scanning all photos in color 300dpi including the B&W. The negatives I scan in color 2000dpi.
    After scan I save the file to MP Navigator in a Tiff. I then open IPhoto and import file. Is there a better way?
    Thanks to you guys I can now open Adobe elements 4.0 while in IPhoto( I spend hours trying to figure that out before I read it) and I am slowly learning about editing with filters and unmask sharp.
    The Questions: I read to scan B&W in color with RGB color profile. What is this and how to change setting? I open the scanner driver to ScanGear but I can't seem to find this.
    I save this photos as Tiff and import to IPhoto where I can play around with editing. I read that I should save the original as tiff and work on a jpeg, just to save space on my hard drive. Also that I should have backup files.
    So If I save the photo in MP Navigator as tiff, and I import it to IPhotos as tiff. When and how do I change and save them to jpeg? After I import the photos to IPhoto should I delete the photos in MP Navigator to save space on my HD? Or do I leave them there as my backup? I understand that saving as a Tiff is better but takes more space.I am going to burn the photos to DVD so my mom can see them on tv and give copys to my family so if they want to print some they can do it themself for the DVD. Is it better to burn them as a Tiff or as a jpep or does it make a difference?
    I am not that computer savy and I have not had my mac that long so please try to answer in easy to understand way.
    Thank You

    tobra:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The reason for scanning to color for the B/W files is that iPhoto doesn't not support the grayscale color mode that scanners use for B/W scanning.
    I'm not sure why you're saving to tiff as it's a much greater sized file and will eat up disk space at a horrendous rate. Since iPhoto always works on a jpg copy when editing you can scan to jpg and always have the untouched copy (i.e. the digital negative) available for use if desired. If you're a professional then the tiff may have some more significance.
    Here's how to use Photoshop Elements correctly with iPhoto:
    Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
    1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
    2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
    3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
    This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
    NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
    If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
    The reason for using the RGB color profile is that is what is used by Apple for it's printing services and what's used for the internet. Most inkjet printers will work better with the sRGB color profile.
    If you're going to burn those photos to a DVD to play on a TV then the largest size needed is 740 x 580 pixels as that's what's used for displaying on TV. No need to over shoot the target. BUT you don't want to scan that small because the photos may be used for printing at some time in the future.
    If you use iDVD to create your slideshows that will be played on a TV you'll want to crop the photos to a 4:3 ratio before sending to iDVD. This will fit the picture to the available TV safe area the best. You can opt to include the original full sized image file on the DVD disk along with the iDVD slideshow or just burn a DVD of the original scanned files.
    Let me urge to to consider getting an external Firewire hard drive to be used for backing up your boot drive. You can use Time Machine to do the backups or use a backup application like SuperDuper (for cloning the entire boot drive or just the User folder and contents) or Synk Standard for backing up selected folders to the external with incremental backups each day.
    IMO using jpgs for the intended use are just fine.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Fractional seconds in conversion to XML dateTime are 000

    Hello,
    when converting a Java Date (via XMLGregorianCalendar) to XML (xs:dateTime) using WLS 10.3, the XML includes the fractional seconds ".000".
    Example: <AppointmentStart>2009-03-18T16:00:00.000Z</AppointmentStart>
    According to the XML Schema Spec (http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-2/) the canonical representation of fractional seconds should not include trailing zeros.
    Is this a bug in WLS, or am I misunderstanding something?
    Roger
    PS: From the spec:
    3.2.7.2 Canonical representation
    Except for trailing fractional zero digits in the seconds representation, '24:00:00' time representations, and timezone (for timezoned values), the mapping from literals to values is one-to-one. Where there is more than one possible representation, the canonical representation is as follows:
    The 2-digit numeral representing the hour must not be '24';
    The fractional second string, if present, must not end in '0';
    for timezoned values, the timezone must be represented with 'Z' (All timezoned dateTime values are UTC.).

    Hi Bill,
    I'm not sure how valid my test is, but I ran a quick test where I created a table with a timestamp column, inserted a row, and then retrieved the row. I did not see any difference with 9i and 10g, but I only have 9.2.0.8 and 10.2.0.4 versions so maybe it was a patch thing, but I have found no references to this change. Of course, that doesn't mean that there wasn't a change, and/or maybe there was something specific to a particular port, etc.
    EDIT - Just to clarify... I mean the 9.2.0.8 and 10.2.0.4 tests both returned the fsecs the same. As did an 11.1.0.7 test.
    Assuming the timestamp inserted was "01-JAN-09 01.00.00.11 PM" and the column is TIMESTAMP(2) or even TIMESTAMP(4) then invoking OCIDateTimeGetTime as follows returns:
    OCIDateTimeGetTime(usrhp, errhp, pTestTS, &hh, &mm, &ss, &fs);
    hh = 13
    mm = 0
    ss = 0
    fs = 110000000
    EDIT2 -
    I have noticed that SQL*Plus does exhibit the behavior I think you are describing when displaying the values:
    SQL> select * from ts_test;
       TEST_ID TEST_TS
             1 01-JAN-09 01.00.00.11 PM
    1 row selected.
    SQL> alter table ts_test modify(test_ts timestamp(4));
    Table altered.
    SQL> select * from ts_test;
       TEST_ID TEST_TS
             1 01-JAN-09 01.00.00.1100 PM
    1 row selected.Regards,
    Mark
