Canon cameras have audio sync issue with FCP?

My mini dv deck died on me so,
I am using a small palm size Canon mini dv firewire camera to transfer about 50 tapes.
I am having a weird audio sync issue.
Sometimes the capture footage plays down in sync - I pause>scroll>play - and it's suddenly out of sync. This keeps happening. Sometimes it plays in sync. Other times it does not.
Because it's hit and miss- I'm not sure I can even re-sync.
I imagine it could be the media drive (internal)- but I have other video files on this drive that play fine.
I don't often use firewire capture.
Is audio sync a common firewire issue?
Will the quality suffer if I capture through composite/analog audio outputs?
I can patch it through my
decklink card.

Audio sync is an issue with Firewire, just not all the time. Usually it is fine, but a lot of Avid people don't like Firewire for this reason.
Most often it is a 5 frame sync issue. Slip your audio 5 frames forward and see if that solves the problem.
As well, take a look in your Browser after you capture a clip and see if the Aud Rate is either 48,000.5 Hz or 47,999 Hz. I have seen the clips come in as both of these. Once you slip the footage, export the audio only, then reimport and attach the audio to the clip in the timeline. Should take care of it.
Post back if these don't work.

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Severe audio sync issues with DVR and RAI(Italian) channel.

Having severe audio sync issues with the Motorola QIP6416-2 while
watching RAI(Italian) channel. The audio is about 2 seconds behind
the video. This is the only channel it seems to happen with.
I just switched from Cablevision about a week ago and never had a
sync issue with their DVR with the same RAI channel or any channel.
I've tried changing hdmi cables with no success and I also went to
component video cables but the problem remains. Resetting the
box helps but within 15 minutes the sync issues return. Also,
a channel change and back helps briefly,
The only new piece of equipment in the mix is the Motorola DVR,
nothing else has changed.  The DVR is connected directly to my
    tv.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Mike

Being a foreign channel, there may be something screwy with the framerate (PAL conversion?). I don't personally subscribe to any foreign languages channels and I doubt too many on this forum do either, so you may have trouble finding someone to replicate the problem on their end here.

  • Audio Sync Issue With FLME 3.1 and BMIP Card

Hello Folks....First off..Happy Holidays to all.  Secondly...have Black Magic Intensity Pro Card (PCI-e) installed on i7, 3.33GHZ, 24 Gig Ram, Raid Controller  2x 600GIG Drives, Win7 64bit etc etc.
Noticed today on a live show...we had an audio sync issue of half to full second.  This was being pushed via FLME 3.1 and audio was married to the BMIP audio inputs.
Video input was Component and audio as analog.
Any thoughts why this would happen?
Bandwidth was more than acceptable (pushing 700kbps over a T1)
    Appreciate any insight.
    Thanks,

    Hi!

  • Audio sync issues in FCP X

Here is the scenario: The video shoot is an interview format. I recorded my audio externally using the Zoom H6. The sample rate was set at 48kHz, 24bit.
The camera used to shoot the video was a Canon 60D. It appears that it recorded its audio from the internal mic on the cam at 48kHz. The frame rate was set to 1920x1080 @ 24fps.
I bring the audio and video file into my project on FCP X and sync them to my slate. Slowly but surely the external audio starts to fall behind the video.
    Project settings for FCP X are: 1920x1080 | 24fps. Audio is Stereo | 48kHz.
Please help! What am I doing wrong here?

    Hi FCPX & Apple...
I searched the internet to see if I can find this issue and came to this site.  So created my account and logged in and adding my bit (apols for my name that appears...completely accidental! )
There is an issue with FCPX - ver 10.1.2...I'm convinced...(I bought a iMac 27" full spec machine in Feb 2014).  Very recently I've been working on a show reel and I have imported a file (short film).  I set the project to the film's settings ie.. "set based on first video clip"...(1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD), audio rate bit 1536.  When I play the film in FCPX the audio "hic-cups"..."dips to silence"..."drops-out" briefly and very frequently all the way through (approx 15 mins long film)...note: audio set is at stereo 48kHz.
I also have a version of the film in 2048x1240 24p at 2k, again Stereo 48kHz...and this does the same audio "drop-out" all the way through.
So I went off trying to see what was happening.  In the main story timeline...do this...
...Control-click on the picture...and select "Detach Audio" so that audio and video are separated...then...play the film/file where those audio issues occur...you'll notice that the audio still glitches i.e. still drops out frequently...
    ...now...
...click on the video component and press "v" to effectively "grey it out" so you do not see any video in the Viewer but your audio is still "active"...now...go back to the area where you believe the audio "glitches"/"drops-out"...and play it again.
    ...it plays fine...no issues!
...To prove it to yourself...as you play the film/media and with the video component highlighted...press "v" on/off to activate the video only and notice that the audio plays fine (no "drop-outs") when the video is deactivated...but the "drop-outs" are return when the video component becomes active again (press "v" again)!
The video component is affecting the audio component in FCPX!  When you output to any file format, these audio glitches disappear...hence an software issue!
FCPX / Apple Please Fix!  It's driving us crazy!

  • Final Cut 7 audio sync issue with external audio

Ok, I've seached around a lot and still haven't found the solution for this common issue, which is sync between video and audio wich were recorded in two different devices.
My video is from a conference (a lady speaking all the time) ProRess 29.97 and my audio is wav recorded at 44.1 Khz. I have already converted my external audio to a fine AIFF 48 Khz, and I have already re-imported it with the correct 29.97 easy setup, as it shows on this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt-nfelM8KA. That helped a lot but audio still goes out on sync when playback goes further (not that much, but it shows).
On Premiere Pro, that wav file a correctly in sync, and I have had this issue before with FCP and now it has come back! help!
Anyone found a real solution for this issue?

Why not just use Premier? FCP is going to slowly die out anyways....
Anyhow, a work around... using the speed change tool (sss) adjust the audio to be the same length of the video so it is in sync... Press command-J, make note of the percentage you sped up your audio. Now open your audio in STP, select all of your audio go to Process>Timestretch and adjust the audio and apply the same percentage.
Listen to your audio. STP's time stretch is excellent because it adjusts the speed without changing the pitch.
    Save as, re-import your audio.

  • Audio Sync Issues with Long Clip

I am about to start editing a multi-cam concert shot on 5 DVX100 cameras without Jam sync TC.
In the past i have had issues with sync when digitizing long clips. is this still the case with FCP? Can i safely digitize 45-60min clips?
I am using a Pro-sumer Panasonic MiniDV Deck for capture. (it is on FCP's 'suppported devices' list)
on the avid i would digitize full tapes to make the Grouping (Multi-clipping) much faster. I want to avoid capturing a bunch of small clips on FCP and then sync them individually.
    any info is greatly appreciated.

DEAD ON THE MONEY. And yes, you can do it with the HVX. This is a really cool thing. There is a gotcha-- the dvx and hvx have an internal battery that allows for the retention of things like timecode when the camera is off. You gotta be sure that battery is charged. And the way you charge it is to attach the ac adaptor and plug it into the wall with the camera off for an hour or two.
Once all the cameras are running with freerun code, you can swap batteries etc and the code just keeps going.
Another thing- when you set up your camera pile, you've got to stand a couple of feet in front of the pile when you hit the remote so that the signal gets to all the cameras.

  • Premiere Pro audio sync issues with 48khz audio on video file and 44.1khz audio on external audio

So, I recorded video and audio on my Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p, 23.976 fps, and 48khz, 16-bit Stereo audio. And I used a Zoom H4 to record an mp3 audio file at 44.1khz Compressed. When trying to sync the audio in Premiere Pro CC, the audio slowly loses sync over time. I already tried to convert the 44.1khz mp3 file to 48khz in Adobe Audition. But that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?

There's always time-stretch changes to the audio file with "keep pitch unchanged" checked, I suppose. Mind you, I've heard of people doing it but haven't done it myself. There's other possible options I'm sure. There's been quite a few threads here on time-sync issues over time.

  • Audio sync issues with apple tv

    Hi All,
I am having some issues with audio syncing properly on my apple tv.  I have my movies stored on an external hard drive - movies go through itunes through to my apple tv (as it should be) via home sharing.  Anyways, some of the movies seem to be out of sync when I watch them on my tv, but when I play them through itunes on my computer they are just fine.  I've tried taking the movie out of itunes and even renaming it before i bring it back in - but that doesn't solve the issue.  Any ideas?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
    Stacey

I just encountered this issue also. All my digital movies and dvd rips stream fine through itunes and into my apple tv. However I just imported a movie I made in imovie. The movie plays fine in quicktime or directly in itunes. When I play the movie on my apple tv streaming it from the same itunes account, the audio is out of sync.
    Any help is really apprecieated!

  • Audio Sync issues since FCP 4.1.1

I'm going to give a brief description of my problem and I just need to know a few things.
Now, Batch, Clip capture all give the same results. Panasonic AJ-D250 deck capturing into final cut 4.1.1 through to 5.0.4 via firewire. It doesn't matter what kind of mac and how much memory it has because it has happened on 3 different macs all the way up to the new G5's purchased 6 months ago, starting from a G4 866. I have tried everything, changing the settings on the deck, following panasonic technicians specs on what the deck settings should be (which I recieved a few different settings each time) Changed every setting in final cut pro, different firewire cables, heck we even have 4 AJ-D250's and they all slip out of sync after 20 minutes (7 frames out of sync) and slippage increases with time. Installing FCP 5 for the first time it was out of sync 5 minutes into the capture.
According to Panasonic, it's apple problem. They also said that apple knows about it and says it's their audio codec.
What I would like to know is where do I find this audio codec. Supposively (because I haven't been there when this happened) everything was good with FCP 3.0. So that being said can I use that audio codec with FCP 5.0?
I know it's FCP because I have used quicktime to capture the clips...perfect capture, I have use myvcr to capture the clips...perfect capture, when we had iMovie installed...perfect capture.
And to add to that depending on the DIF setting in the VTR, renders different but consitant results in the audio capture, DIF Audio=DVCPRO (audio drop out 'flatline audio' for 1.5 frames randomly throughout capture) DIF Audio=DV (audio spike for 1.5 frames randomly throughout capture) None of this happens with the 3 above mentioned programs-quicktime, myvcr, and iMovie.
    Any ideas?
    Andrew

Is this the 12 bit audio problem?

  • Audio sync issues with variable frame rates as well as .ts files

I'm using Premiere Pro CS6 and CC, in Windows 8.
I bought an AverMedia Live Gamer HD card to capture 1080p footage with, and the the videos it produces work perfectly during playback. No sync issues whatsoever. I'm saving them as MP4 at 30fps.
The problem is when I import them into Premiere Pro, the audio loses sync at certain points. After a bit of digging, I've discovered that the videos have a variable frame rate, which Premiere Pro does not support. I don't know why, considering competing products that are significantly cheaper can handle them with a problem, but oh well. The capture card can also save videos in .TS format, which produces a constant frame rate, however when I import them into Premire Pro the sync is immediately off by a second or more. I assume this is for an entirely different reason. Again, they play back normally without a problem. Upon emailing AverMedia, I was told this was Adobe's problem and there was nothing they could do about it.
What I'm wondering is if there is any sort of realistic solution to this as of now. Is there any way that Premiere can work properly with files that have a variable frame rate? If not, is this being worked on?
Or maybe there's a way to get the .TS files back in sync, that way the variable frame rate issue doesn't matter anyway.
Converting the files is not a long term solution. I'm working with hours and hours of HD video, and it would take way too much time to do this.
Manually resyncing the audio is also not a solution. Again, this would just be way too much wasted time with each project.
The only solution I see as of now is to switch to Sony Vegas until this problem is resolved in Premiere, if it ever is. I'm really hoping there is some other way, so if anyone has an idea as to how to fix this, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thank you.
    tl/dr:
Is there any way to get around Premiere Pro not working with variable framerates? My .TS files are also out of sync, is there any way to fix that? Without converting or manually resyncing.

    >If not, is this being worked on?
Discussed many times before... never a "yes" answer to your question... tell Adobe what YOU want at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
If enough people make a request, Adobe MAY add the feature (I don't work for Adobe, so no guarantee of anything)

  • Audio Syncing Issue with iMovie 10.0.1

As was the case with iMovie 9, there is an issue with the audio syncing properly to the video when uploaded to YouTube. I am wondering if anyone knows of the workaround for the same issue with iMovie 10 (Mavericks)?
    Thanks!

The bar codes are generated from an online service and are downloaded as vector art in the form of EPS files.I am opening the file in Illustrator after downloading the EPS file. I am not scaling it in any way, it just opens in Illustrator "wrong". "Placing" the file creates the same distorted effect. The EPS file looks fine if I view it in Preview or open it in Photoshop, but I need to use it as vector art.
