Canon connect canon 5d mkII to imac with Canon EOS Utility

After many years of using a PC, I finally took the plunge and purchased a Imac only to find I cannot connect my Canon 5D MkII SLR camera, it just says "No camera found". Looking on Google I see othe rpeople have had problems. Anybody know of any solutions?

The 5D Mk II ON/Off switch has two On settings. Set it to the first one (in the middle between off and fully on) and it will connect

  • How to connect Digital Optical Audio output iMac with Receiver Input

I have connected iMac with onkyo hts-3300 home theater system receiver through optical audio TosLink Cable.( http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Audio-TosLink-Cable/dp/B001ZU3G2I/ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&qid=1292865309&sr=8-2 ). Unfortunately there is no sound coming out from the Home theater system. I have verified the Receiver optical input is working fine by connecting with my TV optical audio digital out put and the it's working great. The only difference between TV and iMac is, on my TV, it has optical audio digital output and I can use this cable (http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-A102-02M-Digital-connectors/dp/B0002WPREU/ref=s r11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1297320792&sr=1-1) to make it work. I can also verified my optical audio TosLink Cable working because I can see the red light coming out from the cable. So the only problem could be from iMac. I doubt I need to change the additional setting to configure iMac to use external optical audio setting instead of the buit in audio setting. Hoe can I able to do it? or my iMac(IMAC 21.5"/3.06/2X2GB/500GB/9400M-ITP
MB950ZP/A) doesn't support optical digital audio out put? I have follow this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12769423&#12769423 and to my surprise which doesn't work out for me. I doubt that i need to change some setting, but when I got to setting>> sound I cannot change any setting. I was quite depressed aldy. Can someone answer my question as i m a newbie here. Thanks a lot

Thank you very much for your reply.

Is it possible to open this Audio Midi Setup in windows 7 enviroment also? I Just want to get the audio from my iMac in Hts-3300 onkyo home theatre. YOur help is much appreciated
@rkaufmann87 : Thank you very much for your sharing about this http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ connection. for me what i understand is the digital audio output in airportexpress is the same as the audio out put in iMac in terms of details sepcs. So this airportexpress will only help you connect wirelessly to home theatre system, rather than waired connection. Other than that nothig much difference. So there is no point for me to spend extra bucks to attain the wireless connection. Unless the airportexpress have optical digital input, which i believe not. Correct me if I m worng, thanks

  • Connect a Monitor to my iMac with MiniDisplay - VGA cable

hello guys, I want to connect my monitor LG Flatron M1921A to my iMac via the Mini DisplayPort adapter - VGA, I read in the questions if the display does not support HDCP may be unable to play the video, but is it really necessary to have the screen with HDCP? if so what is the screen (cheap but good) do you recommend? if not, which cable should I use VGA or DVI? Thank for all answer

    always dvi!
vga is analogue so it require the system to make the digital signal into an analogue one and then
the monitor convert it back to digital as only old crt screens use analogue
converting signals back and forth cost quality of the image and give issues with image placement adjustments

  • Help needed to tether Canon EOS T1i to IMac with Aperture

    Hello out there,
Will someone kindly help me IN BABY STEPS AND EASY-To-READ instructions how to (if it is even possible) how to:
Tether my Canon EOS Rebel T1i to my Imac that is using Aperture.
I tried to use the instructions in Aperture but nothing worked.
Thanks and have a nice day,
    Stacey Bindman (Mr.)
    Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Tethering is only supported on specific camera models. Tethering in Aperture doesn't work with the T1i. Apple implements it based on a standard which Canon only implemented on some cameras (and it seems like none of the new models support it).
You can get around this by using an Automator workflow downloadable here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/aperturehotfolder.html
You use the tethered shooting mode in the Canon EOS Utility to capture the photos to a folder and this workflow grabs any image that shows up in the folder and imports it into an Aperture project.
This gives you the functionality of tethering although the extra steps and workflow have a short delay before the image shows up.
Download the utility. Since it's really an Applescript / Automator workflow you might want to drop it into the "Applications" -> "AppleScript" folder on your Mac.
Since you wont want Aperture to auto-start and attempt an import when your camera is connected, you should probably start Aperture, select "Aperture" -> "Preferences..." -> "Import" then set the value of "When a camera is connected, open:" to "No Application" (meaning it wont attempt to do anything.) Close the Preferences window (no need to restart anything... the change takes effect immediately.)
Now you can connect your camera via the USB cord without fear that Aperture will try to grab control of it. Run the Canon "EOS Utility" (it's probably in the "Applications" -> "Canon Utilities" folder).
At the top, make sure "Control Camera" is selected, then below click on "Camera settings/Remote shooting".
You'll see a panel showing some camera settings, but up near the top, just below the battery icon is a field that shows the folder that it intends to put your images in as you shoot. To the right of this is a tiny folder icon. Click this and you can select the folder of your choice. I created a folder named "Tethered" inside my user account's "Pictures" folder (e.g. in my case it's /Users/tim/Pictures/Tethered )
NOW start the "Aperture Hot Folder" script (if you saved it where I suggested then it's in "Applications" -> "AppleScript" -> "Aperture Hot Folder")
The script will walk you through a few steps. First it will ask you to select the folder where your EOS Utility is saving the tethered shooting images. e.g. in my case this is the /Users/tim/Pictures/Tethered folder I mentioned earlier.
Next, it'll ask if you'd like to create a "New" project in Aperture or use an "Existing" project. The choice is yours. I happened to create a project named "Tethered" just for testing.
Lastly, it'll ask if you'd like the images to be imported as managed images (stored inside the Aperture Library) or referenced images (only meta-data is stored in the Aperture Library). "Managed" is easier because Aperture does the work, but "Referenced" offers you more control -- assuming you are willing to set up a scheme to organize your photos and manage them yourself.
It'll also explain how to end the "Hot Folder" session when you're finished (bring it to the foreground -- usually by just clicking it's icon down in the dock, then use the menu to select "Aperture Hot Folder" -> "Quit Aperture Hot Folder". You can then quit the EOS Utility to end your remote shooting session.)
With the EOS Utility, Aperture, and the Aperture Hot Folder script running, you can now start shooting and the images will (after a few seconds delay) show up in the Aperture project you selected earlier.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • EOS Utility just ain't working with Windows 7

I've been reading lots of posts on the EOS Utility. There is obviously a problem with this working with Windows 7. Many many  people are having the same issue. It worked great with Windows XP.
Canon, please take note and please fix this issue.
I've read the posts and tried ALL of the fixes. None have worked so far.
    So what's my problem.
I connect my 7D to my PC and the EOS Utility opens. It starts to download my images then WIndows 7's utility for downloading also opens. I select 'Start to download images' in the EOS U. The EOS Utility then disconnects/Fails.
I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers, software etc etc.
There is a problem here with Canon's software, but unfortunately I don't see Canon doing anything to fix it.
Canon. Can I pleeeeeeese have a fix from you.

  • Unable to set wireless connection with imac and Canon MX860 printer ...

I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and a Canon MX860 printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

Some help at http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV352LL/A perhaps in the comments.
And maybe at http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PIXMA-MX860-Wireless-Printer/product-reviews/B001R4C 5BK in the comments.
"I ran into the same network installation issue that I've seen in other Canon printers. Canon's network setup forces you to connect by USB cable first. Only after you tell the program that you want to use the computer over the network can you remove the USB cable, move the printer if needed, and if you're using a wired connection, reconnect a network cable. The process isn't particularly difficult, but it's more cumbersome than what other printers let you do, which is simply put the printer where you want it, plug in an Ethernet cable, and install the software." source = http://shop.pcmag.com/shop/product/pcmag/84634068.aspx?SB=6&OB=1
"MAC wireless network printer setup requires turning off firewall, and works fine if you leave firewall off (not recommended). If you set firewall at "essential connections only," wireless networked MX860 won't work. You must add MP navigator and solution apps to your firewall enabled list. Then it worked fine on the admin account, but still won't work on users account which required additional permission settings and selections. After 2 hours it worked fine, but I would've expected better instruction manual for MAC." source = http://cnet.nytimes.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mx860/4852-3181_7-3352 9769.html
"The only trouble that I have had with this machine is setting up the wireless network. The manual instructions are impossible for me to understand and I ended up having to call for assistance. Which easily solved the problem. And again when I had to reconfigure my network settings it was impossible to follow the logarithm of instructions in the manual. Again I needed to call for assistance. If I need help after the year manufacture's warranty I will be charged for these calls." source = http://www.zimbio.com/InkjetPrinter+Reviews/articles/1932/Canon+PIXMA+MX860+Wireless+One+PhotoPrinter
    Even Windows people have trouble:
"I NEED INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CONNECT MY HP LAPTOP TO THE CANON MX860 PRINTER."
"I'm with you. I have my mx860 connected usb to my pc with the printer being shared but my wireless laptop can't find it no matter what I try."
    And, unhappy Vista person:
"I had high hopes for this printer - it seemed to have it all. But the wireless feature never worked, it only worked on my gigabit network for about two weeks (only THREE print jobs including the test print), and never observed it to work via USB - Vista (x64 Ultimate) would throw an error saying it could not attach the device."

  • Connecting a Canon Pixma IP3500 series printer to iMac

I am having trouble connecting my canon iP3500 series printer to my iMac (intel-based). I have installed the cd and my iMac will not recognize the printer. My usb ports are built into my computer so I can not connect the printer through a wired connection. I am connected to the internet wirelessly through an Airport Extreme connection. Does anyone know how to connect my printer so my iMac will recognize it??

One early question: Did you follow the instructions included with the printer??? From your brief post it certain doesn't sound like it. Not being critical; however, the many printers that I have installed with various computers, including 3 different Macs, always had step by step instructions which were very important to follow in the order that was given. For example, typically the printer itself is unpacked and set up with print/ink cartridges etc; then, the CD that was supplied with the printer is used to install software to the Mac; at some point in the CD installation process, the software will say to connect the printer to the computer usually via USB cable. This is a critical step, connecting the printer's USB port to the computer iMac's USB port, to enable the computer to communicate and configure the printer. This step is when the printer is installed in the computer hardware list. So, I would suggest that you get the instructions and proceed step by step. I don't have a clue what you mean when you say, "My usb ports are built into my computer so I can not connect the printer through a wired connection." What? All USB ports are "built into" computers! That's exactly how you do connect to the printer: running the USB cable from the computer port to the printer port. Hope this helps, Kristin.

  • How can I set up a Canon printer on iMac with cd? (iMac has no cd/dvd drive?)

Purchased the latest iMac with no dvd drive; also purchased a Canon printer with dvd set-up; how can I install printer on iMac?

Macs do not usually need to download anything from the CDs that come w/printers.  Read the user manual that came w/the printer and/or contact Canon Support.
Or purchase an external burner.  Do not purchase Apple's usb burner.  3rd party burners are 110% better.

What is the resolution of the picture that you are trying to print?
Go to Image>resize>image size, read the resolution in px/in, then report back, please.
Also, are you in a position to try printing with another printer in an attempt to narrow this down?

  • Anyone here with a working Canon Firewire Scanner and an Alu iMac ?

    Hello Canon users,
my new 2.8 iMac doesn´t recognize the CanoScan 9950F (self powered) , while all my other Macs

I believe they do have MacIntel drivers. Look at this page:

You should know that the MP830 does not work on the USB port of an Airport. I asked Canon about this and they confirmed that it does not work. Also, you cannot fax from your Mac directly to the MP830 - again Canon confirmed this.
I like the MP830 a lot, but it bugs me that these two features don't work. Canon really has no excuse because some of their printers do work on the Airport USB. I don't know if other Canon printers allow direct faxing from a Mac.

  • Can No Longer Scan With Canon MG5220 But Printing Works Fine

    Hello,
I have not had luck with Canon so hoping my Apple community can come through for me   Here is my problem.  I have a Canon MG5220 "all-in-one" that I am able to print to just fine.  I was able to scan a year ago but something has changed and I am no longer able to scan.  I have all the Canon software and the error I get is as follows when using MP Navigator 4.0 EX:
"Error 2.10 -  Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner is turned off. Check status."
I have deleted and re-added my printer several times but that has not done anything.  I believe there was a time in the past when it was scanning properly that I had a separate printer icon under "Printers" on left of  "Print and Scan" sscreen for the scanner but not sure (can someone confirm?).  Regardless, I only have one now.
My printer is connected as follows: MG5220 is wireless to my FiOS Actiontec router and then hardwired Ethernet to iMac. I have turned Wi-Fi status on and off o Mac and that has not made a difference.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    epie

Open Finder and navigate to Applications > Canon Utilities > IJ Network Scanner Selector EX and open the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX utility. This utility will search your local network for the MG5220 and if found, should show something like below.
If the MG5220 is found, ensure that it is selected - as opposed to "Do Not Use" - and then press the OK button.
Now open MP Navigator and select the Preferences (as shown below)
From the Preferences window, with the General tab selected, ensure you have the MP5200 Series Network set as shown below (which is for my wireless MG6250).
If it is set, press the OK button to close the Preferences window and then see if you can scan.

  • Editing Canon 5D to ProRes on an iMac and firewire 800 drive

The Canon 5D footage that has been sent through Compressor to ProRes will not play with any smoothness in FCP 6. I'm wondering if it's because of the Drobo firewire 800 drive? I'm working in a local company's setup and I'm thinking they should be using more than a firewire drive. This iMac is not capable of eSata connection or higher. Any ideas what other cause there could be for the footage playing slowly or freezing all together in the timeline? Thanks.

When you say, "small portable raids", do you mean like a CalDigitVR or a G-Raid mini or G-Speed?
If you want a drive you can drag around with you, I can't recommend the Caldigit VR Mini highly enough. It is really solidly built and is powered from either the FW bus or an external supply. I used one recently to capture 14 hours of DVCProHD live over 2 days (direct feed from an HVX-200 to FCP on a MBP with the drive powered via firewire) without a hiccup. VERY impressive.
My only quibble with it is there is no independent power switch. When you plug it in (fw or external power), it starts up. Other than that, no issues. The Caldigit RAID software allows for a variety of configurations.
