Canon EF 28-300 L IS

Two questions:
* Can't find a list of supported lenses online. Can someone confirm if the Canon EF 28-300 L IS is already profiled or not?
* If not - any advice what kind of a monster combo of data would this lens need? I'm pretty sure doing just 3 focal distances is not enough, so I'm a bit scared of how much work profiling this lens would be if I had to do it myself...

I don't think vignetting effectively stops above f11. My usage of the lens stops above f11, though   And even if not, I am sure just as ACR/LR interpolates between the other f-values that you don't have, that it would extrapolate past the last f-stop in the set. Again, a non-issue for me.
Yes, I do have a profile, otherwise I wouldn't know how quick it was to make (I usually don't make statements about things that I don't have a clue about). The reason why I didn't upload it is that it would possibly not hold up to pixel peeping or scientific scrutiny, since it's only handheld, has only two shooting distances (which even aren't all that much different really), and so on. When I see how some people get a knot in their panties about some profile not meeting their standards I really don't want a part of any of that. It fixes 90% or more of the lens flaws for my use, and that's good enough for me.

  • CApture Perfect and Canon 300 II

Can anyone help me with these issues?  We are a small historical society and use a Canon Microfilm Scanner 300 II. I have seen on Canon's website a table that implies that the latest Capture Perfect software to work with the 300 II is patch v1063 and that the 300 II is apparently not supported above Windows 7. Can anyone confirm: If the 300 II is not support beyond Windows 7? If patch v1063 is the latest Capture Perfect software to work with the 300 II? Can anyone tell me if they know of a table showing all the versions of Capture Perfect and what OS they run under?  I am trying to install the v1063 patch to our capture perfect software. This appeared to work fine but when I try a scan to page I get "No devices found." I also get "Cant locate SCSI device; check cable and power.(-4536). I am using a USB port not SCSI. In the control panel under devices and printers I see under Unspecified an entry for Canon USB adapter for MS with a triangle and an exclamation point in the triangle. When I perform the Troubleshoot function the system determines the Canon USB adapter for MS is not installed but when I click apply the fix it cannot find the driver. Can someone help me with this and explain how to install this driver? Thanks,Kurt

  • Canon Elura DV cameras not available in the UK?

Hi all. I need to get a videocamera quickly, and have been reading various useful posts in these fora, and www.camcorderinfo.com, which has broadly narrowed my choice down to the Sony and Canon comsumer sub-£300 lines, but I am confused by the fact that many of the commonly available (and highly rated) US Canon models (e.g. the Elura 100) do not appear to be available in the UK (Jessops, Amazon etc), whilst the MV range of Canons (e.g. MV850i) are not to be found on www.camcorderinfo.com.
Am I missing something here? Is the Elura line sold under a different branding in the UK?
If not, I would welcome any suggestions of Canon models available in the UK for £300 or less, that would compare to the Sony DCR-HC35/44/46.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Are you aware of any of the difficulties you warn of with this model?
    sorry, no idea..
    I'm using Sony ..
the Apple document about this issue just mentions a few specific models:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61603
the forum search for MVC460delivers this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3704733
.. using "Canon" as key-word, makes the list a lot longer... :-/
as said: it works perfectly for importing direct to the internal drive (as 90% of users will do...); just the combo with ext., fw-connected hd could cause.. trouble.

  • TS2289 Audio in iMovie 11 files but missing in sections when shared to iDVD. The movie and audio plays fine in iMovie but my burned iDVD  movie is missing some audio .

I imported a movie into iMovie 11 from a Canon Vixia HFR 300 SD card with no problem. I have a new iMac running OsX 18.8.4 I think. I added chapter markers and shared it with iDVD. And burned it to a DVD.  Towards the end of this 30 minute movie the sound just stops. I do remember some screen came up when I wanted to burn DVD that said something was wrong with files but I couldn't figure what do to fix it and allowed me to continue. Any ideas?

    Hi
Either the problem is in iMovie or in iDVD
    two notes
    No Audio in iMovie
Most common origin is use of audio from iTunes.
    Work around -
    • Select needed audio to one new playlist
    • Copy out this as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
    • Use this in the movie-project
    Other origins are
    1. strange / alient file formats as -
    • .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc
    • Convert them into .aiff 48kHz 16-bit and use this
    2. the Mac is set wrongly in regard of midi -
    • Close iMovie and other programs
    • Start GarageBand
    • Make a new GB-project and play some notes
    • Close GB and Save
    • Now try iMovie again
    3. No audio when playback in iMovie 1 to HD 6.
    a. in iMovie pref. - deselect ” Playback via Camera”
    b. in System preferences - see that Audio out is not set to zero. Mine often does this
    without me knowing why.
    4. iMovie’08 & 09 & 11
    • Toggle audio-scimming by cmd-K
    Stuttering audio and video
    1. FileVault is ON - Turn it off
    2. More than 50 audio files in a movie-project
Mix down to one audio clip
    3. Project is stored on one (USB) external hard disk - should be a FireWire one
    4. the External hard disk is not Mac OS Extended formatted - but
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange and this will not work for Video.
    5. To little free space on internal boot hard disk.
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space when project is imported and edited and this goes for
4x3 SD Video. For 16x9 HD my guess would be about 5 times more at least.
Neither Mac OS, iMovie or iDVD can address any other hard disk than the boot drive for it’s
scratch files. (Unlike Final Cut Express/Pro where You select scratch disk/s)
    6. Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
•OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Error in lens metadata

My Canon EF-S 15-85mm is being reported as a Canon EF 70-300 DO in Aperture 3.0.2
Has anyone else come across this type of error before and this one specifically? Is there a fix?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi The Aardvark;
My camera is a Nikon D300 which started reporting my lens incorrectly. So I sent the camera in for repair. It turns out a logic board in had crapped out.

  • Request for Lens Profile

    Hello all
Is it possible to request a Lens Profile here?
If so then it would useful to have a Lens Profile for the following Lens:
Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 DO IS USM
    Thanks in advance
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin
It could be quite a while.  I tried the lens profiler utility and it really is easy to use to build your own profile.  All you need to do is print a target and take a few shots ...

  • Best DV Camcorder...

    Hi all,
i want to record video and sounds in a very good quality,
save the data on my HD to edit it later,
Can you advice me about the best DV camecorder so that :
    1) it is compatible with Mac and Pc...
    2) it has the best way of saving and managing the data...
    3) less than 2000 us $
    Thanks

Since what I said is to get a DV tape camera I am not sure why you are carrying coals to Newcastle with this bit of advice, to me anyway. No kidding, in other words.
BTW used with some skill the MPEG2 JVC cameras make quite adequate DVD's if you don't use iMovie but just make jump cut edits (at keyframes you don't get any jumpiness) in something like MPEG Streamclip then right to Toast - already conforming to the MPEG2 standard. Fast encodes to the final DVD, no reencoding in Toast with the right settings.
At the best setting it records at over 10 mb/sec which beats the bitrate of Hollywood DVD's and I can tell you from experience that a small camera with a fast lens as long as there is decent light can make quite good movies, though DV tape for editing is the gold standard ( or HD DV is).
7 1/2 hours on one HDD with no tapes and that bitrate is better than you realize if you understand what you are doing. My JVC is also amazingly small and that adds versatility.
To the OP, get a DV TAPE camera, you can get a good Canon for under $300. The point is though you can succeed with a number of methods if you know (already) what you are doing.
What is inadvisable for ANYONE, are DVD cameras - expensive media, confusing processes, short record times and it is still MPEG2.
What we NEED are DV cameras with HDD's - even at 13GB an hour, there are 120GB laptop HDD's out which would allow 9 hours of recording and the ability to load DV files without the time consuming capture process. Since AVHCD is coming , and assumign Apple adapts iMovie or FC/FCE then at least they are HDD cameras with high quality codecs.

  • Best camera/camcorder for a concert?

Hi, I'm going to a concert in a month and I really want a camera or camcorder that is less than $300 and can provide good video, I'm not so much looking for good pictures I just want good video quality and sound. Also nothing professional or bulky, just something I can easily but in my bag. Any advice on what cameras are good for this? I'm looking more for a digital camera than a camcorder. I'm thinking maybe the canon powershot ELPH 300 HS or 110 HS? But any other cameras I'm more than willing to look into. Thanks so much!!

    Hi Michelle_15,
With your budget you will need to stick with Point-and-Shoot cameras, and it sounds like you want something relatively small anyway. Both models you listed should do an adequate job of capturing video of this concert, but keep in mind no Point-and-Shoot camera will do a great job of video capture in dark environments like concerts.

  • HELP! Distortion.

I am using a Canon PowerShot ELPH 300  HS camera to record videos. I am using these as well as some videos from iMovie, for example, stop motion videos I have done using iMovie. My videos are distorted! I have tried changing the presets but nothing has worked so far. Is there a preset in Premiere Elements that will allow me to use videos right from my camera as well as videos from iMovie without them being distorted?

    natk
That was great news about the good quality of your exports.
Depending on how you went to proceed, we could look at this as a preview issue and start thinking about
    a. do you have the latest version of your video card installed
    b. if you do, the we might consider deleting the BadDrivers.txt file. I am not sure where that would be in Premiere Elements 11 Mac directory. In Windows, it would be
    Local Disk C
    Program Files
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete.
But, if you right click on the Edit Mode monitor and select Magnification, is the set for "Fit"? And, if you right click on the Edit Mode monitor and select Playback Quality, you could experiment with Automatic and Highest. But because of the symptoms that you describe, I am less likely to go full force in those directions, but....
When you render the Timeline, you automatically generate preview files. Any chance that you have pile ups of them in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder wherever that may be in the Mac. (I am an Elements Windows user.)
Just some thoughts for now. But sounding good in the way of getting your exports in good quality in spite of the preview setbacks.

  • No laughing...  I have a Canon ZR 300 camcorder.  I can not see it when connected via firewire in system profile and iMovie doesn't see it either.  Any suggestions?

I have an old Canon ZR 300 camcorder that I'm trying to connect to my 17" MBP via 9 pin firewire (its a 4 pin to 9 pin cable as the MBP doesn't have a 4 pin firewire - figured it was backwards compatible).  Anyhow, iMovie 09 doesn't see the camcorder.  I checked under System Profile and then under Firewire and it doesn't see it either.  In fact I get some red letters about not seeing firewire devices.  I'm running Lion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Should using mixed wifi and ethernet clients on a timecapsule work?  if so is it a feature I can use out of the box so to speak?
    Thanks
No a TC cannot do what you want.. it is now in dumb stupid wireless join mode.. and it turns off the ethernet ports.. in case you want to use the TC as a wireless bridge to multiple clients which is plainly wrong.. (only airport express is allowed to do this since it has only one ethernet port).
Welcome to Apple. (The plainly wrong above is a figment of Apple imagination.. of strict network protocols.. but unhelpful for a home device. maybe also to encourage sales of expresses.)

  • Canon 300/4 + (1.4 Conv.)

Hello! Does anybody have a profile for the Canon 300/4 or this lens together with the 1.4 Conv.? Would be also very interested in a profile for a Sigma 18-50 /F3,5-5,6DC. Thank you! Ralph

You dont have to go to those extremes if you know what to look for.
I have an easier solution that worked. Try it and let us know. This way you dont have to uninstall Premiere.
    1. Uninstalled Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Third Party Content through add/remove.
    2. Ran setup from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\Setup\setup.exe
Once installed again it was all there.

  • Canon MX860 get error 300 when printing wirelessly from MacBook Pro

I've been printing wirelessly for several years and most recently after an upgrade to OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite it was printing fine until this morning. Something changed and I get error 300 when I try to print. If I connect my MacBook to the Canon MX860 printer using the USB cord it prints fine so I'm assuming it's some sort of wireless connection issue. I powered down and up both the printer and the Macbook and still get the error. I tried the "Reset Printer System" from the System Preferences and now I can't add the printer back in. I tried using the CD that came with the printer to reinstall the wireless connection and the set-up program says it's incompatible with my operating system and refuses to run. Any assistance to help me print wirelessly again would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

After further investigation, we believe this is due to an intermittent  modem problem and is not the fault of the printer or MacBook.

As you probably know the Canon plug-in enables Log & Transfer in FCP7. I'm not sure whether it works with Final Cut Express or not.
Look in Applications>Canon Utilities. I'm running 10.6 as well and that is where it's located on my machine.
    Good luck.

  • Will my 70-300 Canon Zoom lens + a 2x multiplier function on a new EOS T3i

Will  my 70-300 Canon Zoom lens + a Canon 2x multiplier function on a new EOS T3i?

    Basically.... no.
As far as I know, Canon 2X Extenders (teleconverters) cannot even be fitted to any of the 70-300mm lenses. The Canon Extenders all have a protruding front element that prevents them from even being attached to quite a few lenses. They can be fitted to the 70-200mm zooms, as well as the prime lenses 135mm and longer.
A third party 2X would physically fit onto the lens. But.... Most 70-300mm are f3.5-5.6 aperture lenses. With a 2X on them two stops of light are lost to the teleconverter, so the lens/TC combo becomes and effective 140-600mm  f7.1-11 lens. Your camera will stop autofocusing with smaller than f5.6 aperture lenses (only 1D-series and 5D Mk III can still focus at f8, even they would fail to focus at f11). Your could still manually focus, except the viewfinder will be quite dim to try to do so.
And, frankly, I wouldn't expect much in terms of image quality. A strong (2X) teleconverter on a zoom lens is often not a great combo.
My advice would be to save up for a longer focal length lens... Something I use a lot, which has good image quality and  focuses very well, even in combination with a Canon 1.4X teleconverter, is Canon EF 300mm f4 IS lens. There is also the Canon 400mm f5.6 lens, but it lacks IS (so plan on using a tripod or at least a monopod). If you prefer a zoom there are the Canon 100-400mm IS and  Sigma 120-400mm OS or 150-500mm OS. I hear that Tamron is developing a new 150-600mm VC lens that's supposed to be competitively priced, but I don't know when that will be available or have any advance info on it's performance or image quality.
Besides these options... get closer to your subjects. That's often going to give better results, anyway, since with longer focal lengths you'll be shooting from a greater distance, it's much harder to get a steady shot, plus there often can be various atmospheric effects that reduce image quality too.
