Canon EOS 20D, iPhoto, and import

To hook a Canon EOS 20D to iPhoto, you must set its communications mode to "PTP"
Here's how:
1. Press the "Menu" button on the back of the camera.
2. Scroll down to "Communication"
3. Click the "Set" button.
4. Scroll to "PTP" (and not the default, "Normal")
5. Click the "Set" button again.
6. Click the "Menu" button again to exit the menu.
Now iPhoto will recognize and import from the 20D as it should.
I post this because I just got the thing to work! Hope it helps someone.

Use the Canon software that came with your camera to download photos to your computer, review those and select the ones you want in iPhoto then use iPhoto to import the wanted photos.

  • Importing CR2/RAW from Canon EOS 20d

    Hi!
I shoot RAW-files with my camera and recently bought Lightroom. My problem is that I can´t import my RAW files directly from the camera (Canon EOS 20d). I open the File meny < Import photos from device, but Lightroom can´t find any pictures on my camera although I know there are RAW files there. When I first import my photos to my harddrive and then import them into Lightroom it works fine but I wanna skip the extra import-step and just take the photos directly from my camera into Lightroom. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
(I have updated Lightroom to 2.4 and uses the most updated firmware to my camera.)

Ok, thanks. I looked at other similar problems on the forum and they also recommend a card reader so I guess I just have to go and buy me one. If anyone do know a solution to the problem without a card reader I would be very glad to hear about it. I mean, the Canon EOS 20d is a pretty common camera although it is a "little" old by now. But like you also mentioned, it could also be the OS update...
    Friendly regards

  • Trouble importing images from Canon EOS to iPhoto

When I returned from my daughter's wedding with about 400 irreplacable photos I discovered that I could not import photos from my Canon EOS to iPhoto on my iMac.  When I initially connect my camera to the computer the images display perfectly. However, when I click "import all" the downloaded images all appear completely blank (gray).  I don't have any difficulty importing images from my iPhone.

I have had a similar experience with a few greyed out images I did not bother too much because it was not important at the time. I was wondering if you could save them into another format or file and then try importing them from there.

  • I pod doesnt' work with the camera connector and Canon EOS 20D!

    iPod Camera Connector: Supported Devices
The iPod Camera Connector requires a Fifth Generation iPod, iPod photo (also known as iPod with color display) and a supported camera or media reader. Other iPods, including iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod (Click Wheel), and iPod shuffle, are not supported with the iPod Camera Connector.
The iPod Camera Connector supports cameras with USB connectivity based on the following commonly used protocols:
    PTP
    Type 4 (or Normal)
    Mass Storage
For the complete list of supported cameras and media readers, see this webpage.
If you're using Mac OS X 10.3.x, you can use Image Capture to quickly verify what protocol your camera supports. To do this:
    Connect your camera.
    Open Image Capture.
Click Options and then click Device Options.
You can also check your camera's owner manual or the vendor's website to find out what protocols your camera supports. Also see "iPod Camera Connector: Choosing a photo importing protocol on a camera" for additional information.

  • IPOD Camera Connector download from Canon EOS 20D

Having problems tranferring from Canon EOS 20D. Although Apple say it is compatable all I get is Unsupported device. Any Idea's...

    No worries Paul & Sam,
Unplug everthing, soft reset your iPod, connect the camera connector to your card reader and put your card in the reader before you plug it in the iPod, then connect it, let the iPod find everything and then import photo's if this doesn't work try this below:
The Belkin Reader i've got has this model number. F5U249ea if you've got the same one, it's powered off the iPod, the 60gb model should be no different. Have you got the latest iPod update installed. If you have all i can say make sure everything on your iPod is still on your computer, completely restore your iPod with the latest iPod update, then connect everything together again, if this still does'nt work, i'm not sure what you can do? i'll try and find some more info for you but try everything i've said first and i'm sure you'll get everything to work fine.
Let me know how you get on, i'll try and figure out what happened

  • IPhoto won't import photos from my Canon EOS 20D

I can't get iPhoto to even recognize my camera. I have it plugged into the computer, turned on, then push the photo view button on the camera. It doesn't show up anywhere in iPhoto. Please help...

  • Download to iphoto from Canon EOS 20D

All my previous Canon cameras enabled me to import into iphoto. Now with 20D the Canon software uses image browser & EOS utility & I dont know how to download from these to iphoto. Grateful if someone could tell me how. Thanks.

Go to iPhoto>Preferences. There's an option called "Connecting Cameras Open:" Choose iPhoto instead of the other programmes. The next time when you connect a camera iPhoto should open automatically.

  • I have a Canon EOS T2i Camera and I want to import the RAW images into Aperture.  How do I import them as RAW images instead of jpeg ?

How do I import RAW images from my Canon EOS T2i camera into Aperture and have them show up as RAW images and not jpeg images?

See the list of supported raw formats:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
The footnote ** for the cameras  EOS Rebel T2i EF-S / 550D / Kiss X4**  says, that the raw format is only supported with Aperture 3. So you will have to upgrade to Aperture 3, to be able to import the raw from from your camera.

  • Canon EOS 20D w/ iPhoto 2.0.1? Possible?

I have i Photo 2.0.1 and have just bought a Canon 20D. iPhoto won't recognize the camera. It says "Camera not Selcted." Is there some way to make these compatible?

Not really but there is an inexpensive alternative - a card reader.

  • Canon Eos 500d - iPhoto 11 - Mobile Device (iPhone, iPad) not possible...

    Hi there,
    i have a problem i just don't get solved.
I have a Canon EOS 500d Camera that i also use to shoot videos every once in a while, but I dont get to transfer to my iPhone or iPad. But let me explain.
I import the Movies (1280x720) from the Camera just like the Pictures (mostly RAW) into iPhoto11 which works like a charm. I am also able to watch these Movies within iPhoto. Not a problem.
BUT. When i try to get them on my iPhone or iPad using iTunes, marking to sync Pics and Movies, it just doesn't work. It shows me an Error like: The following Movies/Videos couldn't be imported because the Format (.MOV) is unknown.
I am wondering if this Problem is known and how i can fix this?
This Problem does not occur w/ videos taken on the iPhone They get transferred to my mobile devices without any trouble.
I really hope that someone could help me w/ this issue.
    Thank you very much,
    Markus

    Hi,
    thanks again.
How can you export movies (that already exist as .MOV-Files in iPhoto, but do not sync w/ iPad etc. as described above) from iPhoto then?
If you select one of the .MOV-Files within iPhoto and choose "Export..." (shift + cmd + E) and go to "Quicktime" the "Export"-Button is disabled. All other ways don't work either. This is just to Export PICTURES as in .JPG and else. Other wise you are very well invited to tell me how to export .mov-Files as Quicktime-Movie within iPhoto.
As for the "Save as...": I am sorry, you are right. Not available within iPhoto. I dragged one of the .MOV-Files on the Desktop, opened with Quicktime and then via "Save as..." or "Share"-> "iTunes..." transfer to iTunes. The Movie then shows up as "Movie" within iTunes and can be synced w/ iPhone etc.
There must be an easier way though. It is really a pain to workaround like this.
Still really looking forward to a solution.
    Thanks again,
    Markus

  • IPhoto has stopped recognizing my Canon EOS 20D

When I connect the camera with a usb, iPhoto no longer recognizes that its there. Anybody else ever have a similar problem?

    Hi Jeffrey,
I have the 20D and it's a great camera. I have not had any problems with importing.
A couple of simple things you've probably already tried..
    --try a different computer
    --different USB cable
--the other USB connection on your computer...
Also, you can check the system profiler after your camera is connected to see if it is recognized.
Another workaround is to use image capture to import to your desktop and then import into iphoto.
A couple of ideas more specific for the 20D...in your menu for your camera, check to make sure the color space is sRGB (and not adobeRGB). Also, the setting for video system should be NTSC (not PAL), and the setting for communication should be normal (and not PTP or "prepare to print").
If all the above doesn't correct the problem, one other fix may be a firmware update for your camera which can be downloaded through the Canon USA website.
    Best wishes,
    Scott

  • Why can't iPhoto see my Canon EOS Rebel T5i to import pictures?

I connect my camera to my iMac using a USB cable (like I do for my iPhone), but when I launch iPhoto, it does not see my camera, so I can't download my pictures. The camera thinks it is connected, since the displays turn off, but I can't see the camera as a device in iPhoto or in the Finder. I'm running OSX 10.8.5 on my iMac, since it is rather old, but I've been able to do this before. iPhoto is 9.4.3.

Launch Image Capture and see if it can see your camera?  Also try a different USB port.
A workaround would be to take the memory card out of the camera and use a card reader to upload from the card to a folder on the Desktop.  Then you can import from there into iPhoto.  Personally, that's my preferred workflow as I can make sure they are safely on the HD before using the camera to delete them from the memory card and  rename the photos before importing into iPhoto,

  • Canon EOS Utility Software and WIN 7

    Greetings,
I installed my Canon Solutions Software that I received with my 30D years ago on my WIN 7 computer.  When I
connect the camera, the computer does not detect.   Can you help???

There are no drivers needed for the computer to see the camera.  You do not even need the software and the computer should still see the camera.  If it doesn't you need to check out why the computer is not seeing it.  Not the software.
If your old software is Win 7 compatible it may serve you better than the newest. Canon will drop some of the older models from time to time.
And of course there is always a card reader.  Probably the most compatible of anything.

  • Canon Eos 5D, Lightroom and RAW images

After a series of tests I carried out with my Canon camera, do you agree with these conclusions on the raw format?
Following an import in Lightroom of RAW pictures:
Loss of image styles (portrait, landscape, B&W...)
Loss of image style changes (+/- sharpness, +/- hue...)
The white balance setting is kept but can still be modified in lightroom
The temperature of color setting is kept
    > Are B&W filters (green, yellow, sepia...) kept or deleted through import?
    Thanks!

I believe we'll all agree that your comments are true. That is, Adobe ACR or Lr make no attempt to read much more into the raw data than the data itself (ie, without interpreting any setting other than the white balance).
While that is the case, Adobe has provided profiles that should very closely match the "portrait, landscape, ..." styles. Lr is also very versatile such that you can create presets that will closely match all the other in-camera styles ... and, btw, many more.
