Canon EOS 20D w/ iPhoto 2.0.1? Possible?

I have i Photo 2.0.1 and have just bought a Canon 20D. iPhoto won't recognize the camera. It says "Camera not Selcted." Is there some way to make these compatible?

Not really but there is an inexpensive alternative - a card reader.

  • Canon EOS 20D, iPhoto, and import

To hook a Canon EOS 20D to iPhoto, you must set its communications mode to "PTP"
    Here's how:
    1. Press the "Menu" button on the back of the camera.
    2. Scroll down to "Communication"
    3. Click the "Set" button.
    4. Scroll to "PTP" (and not the default, "Normal")
    5. Click the "Set" button again.
    6. Click the "Menu" button again to exit the menu.
Now iPhoto will recognize and import from the 20D as it should.
I post this because I just got the thing to work! Hope it helps someone.

Use the Canon software that came with your camera to download photos to your computer, review those and select the ones you want in iPhoto then use iPhoto to import the wanted photos.

  • Importing CR2/RAW from Canon EOS 20d

    Hi!
I shoot RAW-files with my camera and recently bought Lightroom. My problem is that I can´t import my RAW files directly from the camera (Canon EOS 20d). I open the File meny < Import photos from device, but Lightroom can´t find any pictures on my camera although I know there are RAW files there. When I first import my photos to my harddrive and then import them into Lightroom it works fine but I wanna skip the extra import-step and just take the photos directly from my camera into Lightroom. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
(I have updated Lightroom to 2.4 and uses the most updated firmware to my camera.)
    /J

Ok, thanks. I looked at other similar problems on the forum and they also recommend a card reader so I guess I just have to go and buy me one. If anyone do know a solution to the problem without a card reader I would be very glad to hear about it. I mean, the Canon EOS 20d is a pretty common camera although it is a "little" old by now. But like you also mentioned, it could also be the OS update...
    Friendly regards

  • I pod doesnt' work with the camera connector and Canon EOS 20D!

    iPod Camera Connector: Supported Devices
The iPod Camera Connector requires a Fifth Generation iPod, iPod photo (also known as iPod with color display) and a supported camera or media reader. Other iPods, including iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod (Click Wheel), and iPod shuffle, are not supported with the iPod Camera Connector.
The iPod Camera Connector supports cameras with USB connectivity based on the following commonly used protocols:
    PTP
    Type 4 (or Normal)
    Mass Storage
For the complete list of supported cameras and media readers, see this webpage.
If you're using Mac OS X 10.3.x, you can use Image Capture to quickly verify what protocol your camera supports. To do this:
    Connect your camera.
    Open Image Capture.
Click Options and then click Device Options.
You can also check your camera's owner manual or the vendor's website to find out what protocols your camera supports. Also see "iPod Camera Connector: Choosing a photo importing protocol on a camera" for additional information.

  • IPOD Camera Connector download from Canon EOS 20D

Having problems tranferring from Canon EOS 20D. Although Apple say it is compatable all I get is Unsupported device. Any Idea's...

    No worries Paul & Sam,
Unplug everthing, soft reset your iPod, connect the camera connector to your card reader and put your card in the reader before you plug it in the iPod, then connect it, let the iPod find everything and then import photo's if this doesn't work try this below:
The Belkin Reader i've got has this model number. F5U249ea if you've got the same one, it's powered off the iPod, the 60gb model should be no different. Have you got the latest iPod update installed. If you have all i can say make sure everything on your iPod is still on your computer, completely restore your iPod with the latest iPod update, then connect everything together again, if this still does'nt work, i'm not sure what you can do? i'll try and find some more info for you but try everything i've said first and i'm sure you'll get everything to work fine.
Let me know how you get on, i'll try and figure out what happened

  • Photos from Canon EOS 300d crash iPhoto'11?

    Hi everybody,
I need help with iPhoto: iPhoto closes when working with photos or after import of photos (jpg AND crw) taken by Canon EOS 300d. No probs with other cameras (panasonic, iphone, Canon 450d, ...). Error occurs after installing the last raw update 3.8. Before everything worked fine (pics from 2003 on)!
    Nothing helps:
    - new library
    - new library with new user
    - deleting iphoto and reinstalling
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and greetings,
    Thorsten
edit: pictures are on HDD (local / NAS).

I suppose is NOT cameraraw 3.8 but something in Faces/iPhoto.
Did you already backup the Library?
I am not a specialist in iPhoto, so we wait for a specialist coming in.
    Second rate advice from me:
    reinstall iPhoto,
download a program to recover a corrupted Libray and run it, there is something in another thread about this- this last week).

  • Download to iphoto from Canon EOS 20D

All my previous Canon cameras enabled me to import into iphoto. Now with 20D the Canon software uses image browser & EOS utility & I dont know how to download from these to iphoto. Grateful if someone could tell me how. Thanks.

Go to iPhoto>Preferences. There's an option called "Connecting Cameras Open:" Choose iPhoto instead of the other programmes. The next time when you connect a camera iPhoto should open automatically.

  • IPhoto has stopped recognizing my Canon EOS 20D

When I connect the camera with a usb, iPhoto no longer recognizes that its there. Anybody else ever have a similar problem?

    Hi Jeffrey,
I have the 20D and it's a great camera. I have not had any problems with importing.
A couple of simple things you've probably already tried..
    --try a different computer
    --different USB cable
--the other USB connection on your computer...
Also, you can check the system profiler after your camera is connected to see if it is recognized.
Another workaround is to use image capture to import to your desktop and then import into iphoto.
A couple of ideas more specific for the 20D...in your menu for your camera, check to make sure the color space is sRGB (and not adobeRGB). Also, the setting for video system should be NTSC (not PAL), and the setting for communication should be normal (and not PTP or "prepare to print").
If all the above doesn't correct the problem, one other fix may be a firmware update for your camera which can be downloaded through the Canon USA website.
    Best wishes,
    Scott

  • IPhoto won't import photos from my Canon EOS 20D

I can't get iPhoto to even recognize my camera. I have it plugged into the computer, turned on, then push the photo view button on the camera. It doesn't show up anywhere in iPhoto. Please help...

Use the Canon software that came with your camera to download photos to your computer, review those and select the ones you want in iPhoto then use iPhoto to import the wanted photos.

  • Is there an update for Raw formats for Canon Eos 6d in Iphoto 9?

I've just gotten an EOS 6D and the photographs I have taken will not upload into Iphoto 9.  Is there a software update available.  I don't want to upgrade to Aperture or Iphoto 11 ?  The only download I can find supports both Iphoto 11 and Aperture 3 ?

To use the EOS 6D raw images with iPhoto you will have to upgrade, sorry, see the Raw Support List:
OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats
Your camera is supported by Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.03*; the footnote states clearly: * Aperture version 3.4 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4 or later, is required to install this update.
Your best bet to import the raw images, if you do not want to update, would be to use the software that came with your camera to develop the raw and then to import the converted photos into iPhoto. Usually the camera provided raw conversion is the best, for the manufacturer has the means to provide camera specific functionality.

  • Canon EOS camera and iPhoto does not download photos

after i recently updated Yosemite, my EOS digital camera no longer downloads photos. The camera shows in the device section and the main page show loading but nothing happens. the Camera used to just download automatically. Now nothing

that is not an option for me. I purchased this camera to do the things i wanted to do, it worked up on Dec 6 and after i updated Yosemete, it no longer downloads that photos.
Old Toad's recommendation was not just meant as work-around, but first of all it is a test to see if your problem is caused by the camera, cable, card, or by the recent software update.  Sometimes it simply may seem a problem of a software update, if problems are starting right after the update.
It would really be good to check, if only iPhoto cannot import the photos or no Apple application at all, also, to serif the problem is not caused by your particular card or a corrupted file on that card.
We have no access to your equipment, so we cannot test it for you.

  • Canon-programs can't find my Canon EOS camera, but iPhoto does

When trying to import pictures with my Canon apps, it won't find it, but iPhoto finds it. How come? Can I disable it from iPhoto in some way?

For questions about your Canon applications you'll need to consult their makers. As for iPhoto, if you don't want to use it just quit it. It has nothing to do with your Canon apps and what they do.
You can decide what apps should open automatically when you connect your camera in the iPhoto Preferences.

  • My Canon EOS is no longer recognized by iPhoto.

I have been using my Canon EOS with my iMac OSX Version 10.8.5 and recently iPhoto stopped recognizing it. I am unable to download photos. I have to copy them from the memory card. At the same time, Dropbox is recognizing them and a window pops up when I plug in my camera and turn it on, asking me if I want to upload to Dropbox.
Has anyone else had this problem? How can I get my Canon EOS recognized by iPhoto again?
    Thank you.

Get the photos off of the card and then reformat it using the camera's format command and try again

  • Iphoto will no longer recognize my camera, says it does not recognize the format....they are jpegs? And now it will not even open when I plug my Canon Eos Camera in to download. I have checked everything on the camera and it is working perfectly....

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.
    thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto '09 and Canon EOS 7D

    Heya,
my mother recently bought a Canon EOS 7D. Unfortunately for her, she only has CS3, so she can't open the cr2. files natively in Photoshop, but instead she had to rely on the Adobe DNG Converter. This worked fine while the EOS Utility tool still worked (She had the OS X Version prior to 10.6.2) and she was able to import the files and convert it.
Yesterday my couin, who is quite mac savy, installed the Snow Leopard update and convinced her to use iPhoto '09. Unfortunately, whenever we try to import a .cr2 file, it says it is unable to import, as it is unable to read the file format. Ok, that would not be a problem if the EOS utility and the Adobe DNG converter still worked (the EOS tools crashes on start, leaving us unable to import the files.). I did a system update and searched for updates in iPhoto manually. It seems to have the latest version installed, but we are still not able to open the files. I also searched the forums and found a thread where it said one should wait for an apple update. That was over three months ago.
I hope it is clear what our problem is, since english is not my main language, I had a challenging time to describe it.
