Canon EOS 450d RAW files and Aperure 2.1

Hi everybody!
Can anyone tell me if Aperture 2.1 (under Leopard 10.5.6) handles RAW files of my Canon EOS 450d?
Because, from this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475, it seems that this camera is supported. Actually Aperture show me correctly only the thumbnails. In fact RAW photos become totally red and "Unsupported format" message is displayed when I try to open them.
So I can't use Aperture, my favourite program, for image editing (yes, jpeg still works... but RAW is more powerful).
Is it a problem of my iMac or it's a bug of Mac OSX?
Thank you for your kindly help guys!

Actually I've found out that this is in fact a bug with the EOS 450D 1.0.4 Firmware. It happens only when you transfer RAW's directly from your camera.
If you use a Cardreader or update your 450D firmware, everything works as it should (in aperture 2.1.2 and the latest RAW update).
Unfortunately I don't think this will fix RAW's that exist in your library, if you check the files themselves you will see that the file size is way to small to be a RAW. So hope you didn't format your SD card yet..

  • Canon EOS 6D Raw File

Canon EOS 6D raw file will not open in CS4 with Camera Raw version 5.7.0.213

That's to be expected.  Adobe does not make a practice of adding new camera support to versions of Photoshop that are no longer selling.
But you're not out of luck.  If your camera is newer than your version of Photoshop, you'll want to do one of two things:
    1.  Use the latest version of Adobe's free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the .DNG format, which can then be read by your older version of Photoshop.
    -or-
    2.  Upgrade Photoshop to the latest version, which (assuming support for your camera has already been added) will be able to open the raw files directly.

  • Mac OS X v10.4.11 and Canon EOS 7D RAW files

    Hi there,
I have not had any luck trying to get my Canon 7d Raw files added to iPhoto. The photos actually come up in the import box but whenever I try to import them, it comes up with the error :
    Unreadable Files : 1
The following could not be imported. (The import failed).
I definitely think it is something to do with the Canon Raw format for the 7D but what I can't see is an update for Tiger v10.4.11 that handles the Canon 7D RAW format.
Will I need to update to a newer operating system (for instance, Snow Leopard, as I can see a 7D update for that OS), or am I missing something here?
    Amy help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi Richie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm not positive, but in 10.4.11 you might need Aperture, which does handle it...

  • How to load Canon EOS 6D Raw files in CS5? [was:load raw files]

How do I load raw files from canon 6D camera into CS5 ?

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The EOS 6D requires Camera Raw 7.3 or higher.
CS5 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 6.7. It is not compatible with Camera Raw 7+
Either upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud (US$30/month) or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US$10/month).
Alternatively, if you want to stick with CS5, convert all your Raw files to DNGs using Adobe's free DNG converter
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
Then open and edit the DNG files in CS5.

I just purchased a new Canon EOS 50D and when I try to upload my images to elements 6 it keeps giving me an error message. (The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer).
Does anybody know that reason why?  Do I need to download some kind og driver?

  • Elements 7 cannot open Canon EOS 600D raw file

I try to open my Canon EOS 600D with Elements 7 and it displays a message "Cannot open [filename] because it is the wrong type of file".  I understand my copy of Elements 7 doesn't has the latest of Camera Raw that supports EOS 600D.  I found an update of Camera Raw 6.4.1 from Adobe that can support EOS 600D but it says it's only for Elements 9 or later.
Is there any way that I can open it in Elements 7?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.
    John

You can use the 7.1 DNG Converter to convert your files to DNG copies which will then open in pse 7.

  • Canon EOS 7D Raw files cannot be accessed with PSE 8

    I am having immense problems
translating the .CR2 files from my
    camera using Adobe Phot
    oshop 8. I have downloaded a pl
ugin file which, when unzipped has the extension .8bi The relevant files for Camera_RAW have the extension .plugin. Am I copying the .8bi file in the correct folder. My equipment is: Canon EOS 7D using an Apple MacBook Pro. The Adobe Photoshop elements is vers 8.
Can anyone advise me how I can proceed from this stage. Regards Dave.

You'll want to load the Camera Raw 5.7 update:
    Mac:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4680
There are good instructions in the ReadMe file.  This section is the one you want:
    Mac:
    Photoshop Elements
NOTE: You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements.
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge
    2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.dmg and follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user’s home folder).
    4. Navigate to the following location:
    a. Photoshop Elements 8: Applications/PSE8/Plug-Ins/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop Elements or Adobe Bridge.

  • Canon eos 6 raw files

What version of phtoshop will open raw images shot with a canon eos 6?

    Hi,
If your taliking about the canon eos 6d, then photoshop cs6 or photoshop cc should open those files.
Also, photoshop elements 11 and 12 should as well.
You might have to update your camera raw plugin by going to Help>Updates from within the program/application.
If you have an older version not listed above, then you could use the 8.3 dng converter to convert your 6d files to dng copies, which older
versions of photoshop or elements should open.

  • Canon Powershot G16 RAW files and CS5

I want to be able to work with Canon RAW files shot on my G16 but CS5 doesn't seem to support this. Is there a plug in? or do I need to purchase new/latest software? I really don't want to if I can help it - I have a budget and I'm quite happy with everything else about CS5.
    Nick

Photoshop uses an Adobe plugin called Camera Raw to read Raw files. Camera Raw must be updated every time a new camera comes on to the market and not all versions of Camera Raw are compatible with all versions of Photoshop.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
The Canon Powershot G16 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 8.2 which is only compatible with CS6 and later.
To open Raw files from the G16 in Photoshop, your choices are to upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud.
Alternatively, you can download the free DNG converter from Adobe, convert all G16 Raw files to DNGs then open and edit the DNGs in CS5

I have noticed that the file extension of the canon raw files is.CR2
    any ideas anyone?
    thanks

I was so frustrated about that too. I just bought this iLife 5 a few days ago (Oct, 9, 2005) because I figured that iPhoto 5 could download my canon 350 raw photos. I like iPhoto because it has nice photo orangization. I wonder after reading this whole discussion why there has not been an Apple personel responses the discussion here. What I am doing now is to use Canon ImageBrowser to convert all my raw into jpeg and then import to my iPhoto Library. It is s..k!

  • Canon EOS 400D Raw file Adjustment

    Hi
My question may sound like beginner level but that is where I am.
I have a Canon EOS 400D (Rebel XTI in US) and mainly shoot RAW images.
Recently bought Aperture 2. It imported and displayed the images but could not do any adjustments. The adjustment inspector in grey meaning inactive for the RAW images.
    Please educate me

    Bingo
That helped. It was yellow border. I changed and RAW adjustment is working.

  • Opening Canon 6D .CR2 raw files with CS5 Extended

Can't open Canon EOS 6D raw files with CS5. What is the minimum I need to do to open Canon  EOS 6D .CR2 raw files in Photoshop CS5 Extended version 12.1 x64, and Brige CS5 version 4.1.0.54, and Camera Raw version 6.7.0.339? I would rather not have to go through the hassle of first converting all files with the Adobe DNG - is there another option? Can I upgrade my Adobe software?

Im having the same problem, and i use CS6
Do you know if CC can open 6D .CR2 files?
    Thanks!

You need camera raw 8.4 for your camera, if it’s Digital Rebel T5 EOS 1200D EOS Kiss X70. It is not compatible with PSE11; so it’s a bit odd if that software was bundled with the camera except that it will work with jpegs. I suggest you download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will editable in PSE11(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • IPhoto '08 won't import RAWs from Canon EOS 450D

I did install the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1", but even so, I am not able to import RAW images from my Canon EOS 450D, only jpgs. The error message I get is:
"The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
How do I solve this? The camera is brand new. Is a firmware reflash in order? How?
    Anyone else experience this?

Try using Image Capture to upload the files to the desktop and then import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
