Canon EOS 500D software & MacBook Air

I've just got a Canon EOS 500D. I was going to simply connect it to my MacBook Air but there is a big sign with it suggesting I need to load the EOS Digital Solution disk for it to work properly.
I obviously don't have a cd drive so am not sure what to do. Am a bit of a novice.

You will find that your camera shows up in iPhoto without any additional software. You only need to use the Canon Software if you are interested in their applications. Simple picture transfer to your Mac does not require any of this software.
One example of something that might need the Canon software, depending on what else your system has loaded, is the handling of images in the RAW format. If you are working with JPG files, disregard.

  • How to install Canon MG3170 printer to Macbook Air (mid 2012), both USB & wifi

I have been trying to install the Canon MG3170 to my Macbook Air (mid 2012 version) using OS X Version 10.8.4. I followed the paper manual that came with the box & used the CD provided. In the midst of the installation, "AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO ADD THE SELECTED PRINTER: UNABLE TO FIND THE APPROPRIATE SOFTWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM AFTER RUNNING SOFTWARE UPDATE."
    Problems:
    1) Cannot connect on Network because there is no WPS button on my Airport Extreme and Airport Express.
    2) Cannot print, both via USB or wifi network.
When I bought the printer, I specifically selected this because it has Airprint and wireless printing and was one of the few printers in the Apple Online store. However, I have been having a lot of issues getting the printer installed to be used on  my Macbook Air.
    Please help!!

    Thank you John Galt!
After running SOFTWARE UPDATE, I restarted the Macbook. (DO NOT CONNECT THE PRINTER TO THE MACBOOK YET!)
Then I connected the Canon Printer MG3170 to my MacBook Air via the USB cable.
Next, I switched on the printer.
    I am able to print and scan (via USB cable) from;
SYSTEM PREFERENCES - PRINT & SCAN - select CANON MG3100 series.
To install applications for printing & scanning, go to http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/8201148300.html
However, this solved part of the question above, i.e., printing via USB cable (which is not the whole purpose of using the Airprint Printer) but at least it is a start.
*NOTE: UNINSTALL any prior Canon softwares and drivers specifically installed for this printer first before attempting the steps above as it may interfere with the installation process.

  • Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 does not support Canon EOS 500D

    Hi,
I just bought a new Canon EOS 500D and it seems that Adobe Raw 5.3 (i.e. LR2 and CS4) do not support the new (or better changed) Canon RAW format (CR2).
Does anyone know when this camera model / RAW format will be supported?
    Any ideas for workarounds?
    Best regards,
    paulmut

If the camera allows it, shoot raw+JPEG, that way, you can still use/work with the JPEG version, until the CR2 of the 500D will be supported.
You can also contact Canon and suggest them to take a competitive edge over Nikon by embracing the DNG format, that would have allowed support at release date, in many raw converters programs, like Pentax and others are doing.

  • RAW Camera support for Canon EOS 500D?

I just bought the Canon EOS 500D and now Aperture returns an "unsupported image format" when I shoot in RAW. I have the latest RAWCameraUpdate.pkg with version 2.5.
    Still nothing.
    Help!?

What you can do for now is use Aperture to organize and collect your images while you wait for a RAW update. In the interim, if you need to get images out for printing, email, web, etc. export the master and use the very underrated DPP (Digital Photo Professional) that came with your camera. It does a very good job with RAW conversion of Canon files and actually gives you some advantages over Aperture and ACR/Ligthroom in that it will let you apply your camera technologies that you lose when you shoot RAW over JPEG.
It's rather limited in what it can do in comparison to Aperture or Lightroom, but for simply getting excellent images from your RAW files, with basic edits like cropping, sharpening, and exposure it's very good.

  • Canon Eos 500d - iPhoto 11 - Mobile Device (iPhone, iPad) not possible...

    Hi there,
    i have a problem i just don't get solved.
I have a Canon EOS 500d Camera that i also use to shoot videos every once in a while, but I dont get to transfer to my iPhone or iPad. But let me explain.
I import the Movies (1280x720) from the Camera just like the Pictures (mostly RAW) into iPhoto11 which works like a charm. I am also able to watch these Movies within iPhoto. Not a problem.
BUT. When i try to get them on my iPhone or iPad using iTunes, marking to sync Pics and Movies, it just doesn't work. It shows me an Error like: The following Movies/Videos couldn't be imported because the Format (.MOV) is unknown.
I am wondering if this Problem is known and how i can fix this?
This Problem does not occur w/ videos taken on the iPhone They get transferred to my mobile devices without any trouble.
I really hope that someone could help me w/ this issue.
    Thank you very much,
    Markus

    Hi,
    thanks again.
How can you export movies (that already exist as .MOV-Files in iPhoto, but do not sync w/ iPad etc. as described above) from iPhoto then?
If you select one of the .MOV-Files within iPhoto and choose "Export..." (shift + cmd + E) and go to "Quicktime" the "Export"-Button is disabled. All other ways don't work either. This is just to Export PICTURES as in .JPG and else. Other wise you are very well invited to tell me how to export .mov-Files as Quicktime-Movie within iPhoto.
As for the "Save as...": I am sorry, you are right. Not available within iPhoto. I dragged one of the .MOV-Files on the Desktop, opened with Quicktime and then via "Save as..." or "Share"-> "iTunes..." transfer to iTunes. The Movie then shows up as "Movie" within iTunes and can be synced w/ iPhone etc.
There must be an easier way though. It is really a pain to workaround like this.
Still really looking forward to a solution.
    Thanks again,
    Markus

  • Import photos to Photoshop Elements 9 from Canon EOS 500D

Lately I'm having problem with importing photos from Canon EOS 500D. Elements recognise the camera and return numbers of photos and so on correctly but when I hit 'Get media' nothing happens. The dialogframe stalls and I have to kill it via Windows Activity center. If I copy the files from camera into a file on the computer and the import from there it works ok and the same if I put the memorystick into a cardreader. i have also a Canon PowerShot G9 and there is no problem importing from that camera.
Where is the problem, in my Canon EOS 500D or in Photoshop Elements 9?
Ver of Photoshop Elements 9: 9.0.3.
Firmwareversion of Canon EOS 500D: 1.1.0.
Windows version : Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit version, servicepack 1.
    Regards
    Ingvar

If you open the Organizer and press Ctrl+G that will launch the photo downloader.
Is your 500D recognized as a device when connected to the computer?

  • Canon EOS 500D

Which preset do i use to edit clips shot with a Canon EOS 500D?

There are lots of presets for DSLR footage in the New Sequence dialog. If one of them does not match your footage settings (you need to know those), you can create your own custom preset by opening the New Sequence dialog and clicking on the Custom (CS5) or Settings (CS5.5) tab. Alternatively, just drag a clip to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project panel (looks like a dog-earred sheet of paper) and let PPro automatically create a matching sequence for you. Its parameters will match those of the clip, and you can then add additional footage to it.

  • Error updating software macbook air

Just bought a Macbook air. I tried to update software after 2 hours downloading time and two tries get an error message.
What can I do? return the device?
    Thank you

Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent software updates from downloading.
Same for third party download managers.
Some security software such as Virus Barrier even though temporarily disabled can still prevent software from updating successfully.

  • Canon EOS Utility Software and WIN 7

    Greetings,
I installed my Canon Solutions Software that I received with my 30D years ago on my WIN 7 computer.  When I
connect the camera, the computer does not detect.   Can you help???

There are no drivers needed for the computer to see the camera.  You do not even need the software and the computer should still see the camera.  If it doesn't you need to check out why the computer is not seeing it.  Not the software.
If your old software is Win 7 compatible it may serve you better than the newest. Canon will drop some of the older models from time to time.
And of course there is always a card reader.  Probably the most compatible of anything.

Am i the only one experiencing this?

One thing I forgot to ask, importing images from the camera works ok?
With the same software 10.6.7, 3.1.2 and the latest prokit 3.7 I can shoot tethered with a canon 40d, no problems so its unfortunately nothing obvious with your setup.
At this I point  I would recommend the normal Aperture troubleshooting steps. Run the library first aid (hold down the option and command keys and start aperture) Run the permission repair and library repair. Try moving the preferences file, com.apple.Aperture.plist in your Home/Library/Preferences folder to the desktop and restart Aperture.  Try creating a new empty library and try the tethered shoot and finally try creating a new user and running Aperture as that user.
Depending on the results it might narrow down or fix the issue.
You also might try posting the log entry to the Developer list . Ask if anyone can give you an idea as to what might be the cause.
And of course i you're still under warranty or have Apple Care give them a call.
good luck let us know what happens.

  • Canon HF-10 and Macbook Air

I've been trying to import video from my new Canon HF-10 to my MBA but it keeps freezing (with both, Finder and iMovie). I went to the store and tried a different MBA but still had the same problem. I know it's not the camera because it works flawlessly with a Macbook Pro. Anybody having the same problem? Is there any way around it?

I'm just a regular guy who is not tech savvy and I figured this out with the minimal help and maximum determination that I had. This post is divided into sections so feel free to read what is helpful to you. I am not on here often so replying or sending private messages will more than likely not reach me.
By some wild reason you need to contact me,
    [email protected]
_*This is a SOLUTION to the problem.*_
    *THE INITIAL PROBLEM:*
iMovie doesn't recognize the AVCHD files from the camera that was plugged into the Mac.
    *MY SITUATIONSSSSSS:*
I bought a Canon HF 100 with all the bells and whistles. I was told that I needed iLife 08 to use my camcorder on my computer. I installed iLife 08 and the software disc (that came with the camera) on to the Mac. As I filmed all my "test footage," I tried to upload the footage to the Mac. NOTHING! The icon popped up on the Mac but the Mac didn't recognize the files. I did various searches on Apple's online support, Canon's support, etc. The only information that Canon had was about STILL images- which I could care less about because I bought this camera for FILMING! After countless hours of searching, I called the store where I bought the camera. They said that I needed a "PATCH" that I could download from websites that focused on these type of problems. At this point, I spend over a thousand dollars on the camera and other equipment. I was not about to download some 3rd party software that was not 100% guaranteed to work with my video footage. At this point, I was about FIVE MINUTES from bringing the camera back.
I emailed Canon Support and they sent me the following email:
+This camcorder uses the AVCHD format, you are able to use the camera+
+files on a Mac, if your Mac computer has capture software that supports AVCHD.+
+The Recording System is AVCHD format:+
    +1. Video compression: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.+
+2. Audio compression: Dolby Digital 2ch.+
+When using a Mac computer you will need to be sure your system+
+configuration meets the following for AVCHD support:+
    +1. iMovie '08 version 7.1.+
    +2. An Intel processor MAC.+
    +3. Running OS X Leopard 10.5.+
I was actually considering the idea of buying more software but decided to call Apple before I spent another dime.
I called Apple Care... they didn't want to talk to me unless I paid them $49 for an "incident" fee/ charge. I politely hung up with them. I went to the3 Apple Store to speak with one of the "Geniuses." They said "Go to the Apple forum...." So I was back at square one.
I finally went to my sister's house because she recently bought a Mac. My thought process was that she would more than likely have upgraded software because of her recent purchase. I connected my camcorder to her computer and the video footage popped up on iMovie. I quickly took note of her OS version, her version of iMovie, and her iMovie settings. They were almost identical to my software at home. So I concluded that I didn't need to upgrade my OS system.
I went back home to figure out this problem on my own.
*MY DEDUCTION ABOUT APPLE AND CANON/ AVCHD:*
This must be a fairly new problem. Apparently, Apple has solved the problem but has yet to post the solution in their support section of their website. Also, I hope that Canon and Apple communicate more effectively so that customers are not disappointed in either product. In essence, both sides need to do a better job in the communication departments- to each other and to the customers.
    *NOW FOR THE SOLUTION:*
The Canon Online Support was on the right track but not 100%.
+When using a Mac computer you will need to be sure your system+
+configuration meets the following for AVCHD support:+
    +1. iMovie '08 version 7.1.+ TRUE
+2. An Intel processor MAC.+ TRUE
    +3. Running OS X Leopard 10.5.+ FALSE
Now let me explain this because there is a simple step that all of us have missed if you still have problems!
    1) Make SURE your current OS System supports iLife 08! iLife 08 needs a minimum of OS (Tiger) 10.4.9. So you don't necessarily need Leopard 10.5. They recommend it. So that is up to you if you feel you need it.
For most of us that buy iLife 08, you will notice that your version of iMovie is 7.0 (once you install it). Once you have iLife 08 installed, DO NOT OPEN any programs! Use the "Apple" icon on the top left corner (of your monitor) and search for software updates. You will notice in your list that iMovie has a 7.1 version. That’s cool- so go through the entire update process (if you wish).
IMPORTANT! You should be able to use your camera with 7.1, but you will get another "pop-up" about a software update 7.1.1. Go ahead and update again! NOTE that each time you update, your computer MUST RESTART!
    2) Make sure your MAC has an Intel Processor. If you decide to play with HD, bump up your ram and invest in an external hard drive.
    3) Again, the Leopard 10.5 is not needed but I will leave that decision up to you. More than likely, someone will post something that disagrees with +"not upgrading 10.5"+ and that’s fine. I'm simply sharing with you my findings as of last night. As of now, I found that I didn't have to. I may go home tonight and realize that I need to.
    *NOW FOR THE FUN PART:*
When you connect your camera to your Mac, it still won't recognize your files in the camera icon (that pops up on your desktop). Open iMovie and it should display a message that it has detected a camera. You should see your footage pop up in iMovie.
    *SUM UP:*
I did not invest in extra software and didn't need to download any "patches" from other websites. Make sure you have the basic software and make sure it is updated!
    Happy filming!

  • Canon EOS 7D software?

I have just installed the above software for my 7D. When I plug in my camera it comes up with a notice that has all my camera details and says it will send a report to Apple. then nothing else.
I installed the software on a friends Windows computer and it recognised my camera. So it canot be the software.
I can however put the card from the camera into my card reader and get all my pictures into the Canon software.

What is your OS or platform and how many photos do you handle a month? This will narrow it down a little. Processing power can make a difference too aganin depending on volume and what your final output use is.

  • How do I use my Canon MP600 with my MacBook Air OSX 10.9.5

I tried the suggested solutions with no success.  Printer is connected to MB Air via USB.  The printer appears in System Pref. When I click on print nothing happens.

  • I have a Canon EOS 500D Camera the LCD has started to get black lines across it. Any ideas why?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are they horizontal lines? And they don’t show up in the photos (once you export to a computer)?  It’s completely a guess, but I’d assume that the electrical contacts for those lines have become detached/corroded/broke.  So long as it doesn’t affect your final photo I’d say just live with it.  Fixing a camera that old isn’t worth it, so live with it or upgrade are your options.
If they do show up in the final photos then I’d guess that your sensor is damaged.  There are no settings that would do that, so something is damaged.  Again, with a camera that old it wouldn’t be financially sound to repair it, whatever it is.

  • Canon printer LBP2900 need a driver for 10.9 macbook air

need a canon LBP2900  driver for macbook air 10.9

    Hi @Dinobee
This document explains how to scan a document from a Mac running Yosemite. Although a full feature Yosemite driver is not available to download for your printer, you can still print and scan from the Mac with the driver from Apple Software Update. Follow the steps in this document to install the driver, and then scan from either Apple Preview, Apple Image Capture, or the Print and Scan window.
If you would like, I can help you put the printer on your wireless network without software. I use this method for iPads, iPhones and other devices that do not have software.
Restore the network defaults on the printer by pushing the wireless button, going to settings, and then restore defaults. The wireless button should then start flashing, this means it is now in autowireless mode.
Connect to the network that the printer is broadcasting. It is usually HP-setup-3050a and then part of the MAC address. The wireless light will still be flashing on the printer at this point, this is normal since this is not an actual adhoc connection.
Load up the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in the browser on your mobile device. The default IP for autowireless is 192.168.223.1.
Go to the network tab along the top of the EWS.
Click on Wireless Setup Wizard along the lefthand side to begin configuring the printer.
You have now completed the Wireless configuration, follow the next 3 steps to start printing.
The blue wireless light will go solid, put the Mac back on your own network.
Add the printer to the System Preferences.
    Print
