Canon EOS 6D also detected as Rebel XTi camera device?

In Winows 7 x64 whenever I plug in my EOS 6D, the EOS 6D device plus the Rebel XTi device shows up.
I used to have a Rebel XTi, but that's the camera I upgraded.  I don't know why Windows thinks the EOS 6D is both a Rebel XTi and a 6D.
The Rebel XTi device is detected even when the Camera switch is in the OFF position and plugged into USB.  The 6D device is only detected when the switch is in the ON position.
I installed the 6D software from the CD but I didn't see any prior Canon software to uninstall first.
How do I stop the XTi device from showing up?

ddbear,
To delete the EOS Rebel XTi, you would want to open the Device Manager the next time it's connected.  Then Find the cameras in the Device Manager.  Then you right click on the camera and click Remove or Uninstall.  This will remove the device from within your computer.  Leave your EOS 6D installed to you can still connect.

  • Rebel XTi camera not mounting...

I think it's because I'm shooting in JPEG and RAW format, the XTi allows you to capture in both formats at once. I don't want Bridge, Photoshop, or Aperture to do anything, I want to organize the files myself.
Aperture picks up on the .jpegs right away, and I import them into the library, but I can't view those files using the finder...

    Hi Sabbry,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Try here first: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=OSCompatibilitySupportAct&keyco de=macdr&fcategoryid=139&modelid=14256
The camera isn't mounting... this may be redundant but make sure Finder/Preferences/General... where it says: Show These Items on Desktop:
Check all three. Otherwise when you connect the camera to your Mac, it can't mount.
And... go to: Image Capture/Preferences. Where it says: Camera Make sure you have your options set properly.
And ... Have you considered Importing to iPhoto 6 ?? Working with photos taken in RAW format in iPhoto 6:
If your camera has a RAW setting, taking photos in RAW format lets you save every bit of photographic detail as part of the actual photo file. iPhoto 6 imports RAW-format photos just like any other photo, organizes them right next to the rest of your shots, and lets you edit them using advanced editing tools designed to give RAW photographers all the options they need to create the perfect image.
Note: To see a list of RAW-format cameras that are compatible with iPhoto 6, visit the iPhoto website http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html
The first time you edit a RAW-format photo in the main iPhoto window, the RAW badge appears at the bottom of the window.
When you click Done, your editing changes are applied to the RAW image data and stored as a JPEG file (the original RAW file remains unchanged). You can save edits to a RAW photo as a TIFF file or choose to send unedited RAW files to an external editor. See Related Topics below.
RAW is a reference or "digital negative" format, not a working format. For example, you can't print directly from a RAW file. Also, other programs, such as iMovie, do not interpret RAW.
iPhoto simplifies the RAW workflow by combining RAW editing and JPEG conversion into one step. If you use an expert program like Adobe Photoshop, you have to make your adjustments to the RAW photo, then use a separate process to convert all your photos to a working format, such as JPEG or TIFF. iPhoto simplifies all that.
Note: If you edit the photo again, the RAW badge won't appear because the image is now a JPEG file. To re-edit the original, RAW photo, select the photo and choose Photos > Revert to Original. If you want to keep your first edit, choose Photos > Duplicate before Reverting.
Hopefully something I suggested will help. That's pretty cool to be able to capture in RAW and JPEG at the same time! It's just way of doing stuff but I Import to iPhoto 6. That way I have my original library available at all times. And I back up weekly.

  • Canon EOS Utility Crash

    Hi,
I am using an '07 MacBook 13" and have been using the Canon EOS utility to transfer photos from my camera to my laptop for the past year. I upgraded my camera about one month ago and reinstalled the Canon software with the disc supplied and have since used this updated version on six occasions to transfer the photos from my camera to laptop. Since yesterday, when I try to start up the EOS utility software to transfer photos the software crashes once I click on download images. I have repaired permissions on the hard drive, verified repairs but it said that it was ok. I have also just downloaded the latest version of Snow Leopard 10.6.3 which has made no difference. I found the disk for the Canon software and have tried installing this again, I'm not sure how to properly uninstall the software before hand though. Here is the fall crash report... any help would be very very much appreciated!!

I'm so glad it worked out for you, and thanks very much for the star. As for the camera being brand new, things change so much in the electronics world that it would really be impossible for manufacturers to be able to keep an up-to-date disk in each of their products. It's just the way things are, just as computers are more or less out of date by the time they're coming home with us.

  • Camera RAW Support for Canon EOS 50D

I'm trying to read RAW files from the new Canon EOS 50D in Photoshop. I have Camera RAW v4.5 which is stated to work with the previous 40D, but doesn't seem to work with the 50D...
Has anyone managed to read RAW files from an EOS 50D using Photoshop?
I'm on a Windows PC using Photoshop CS3 version 10.0 with the Camera RAW 4.5.0.175 plug in. I've also tried the DNG converter downloaded with that version of Camera RAW (same ver no.) to no avail.
    Help gratefully received!

    >Win: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS3\File Formats\
is not present (or any near equivalent) on my PC.
If you don't have that exact location then the odds are that your Photoshop/Bridge CS3 install is wrong. The location listed is the correct location for XP and Vista 32 bit. If you have Vista 64, then there is a different location. But, if you have XP or Vista 32 and you don't have that exact location already, then you really need to check the CS3 install.
    > put the CameraRaw.8bi file into Programs/Adobe/CS3/Plug-ins/File Formats/.
And that's the WRONG place to put it...that location will ONLY allow Photoshop to access it, not Bridge. The Camera Raw plug-in MUST be installed in the CORRECT location for both Photoshop and Bridge.

  • Ipod & canon eos 300D

Can I transfer photo's from my canon eos 300D to an Ipod using the camera adaptor?

Inge I am trying to figure out the same thing. It is the reason I bought this iPod so I wouldn't have to travel overseas with my PowerBook.
It says it supports "Type4" protocols which the 300D is, but I want to be assured it will work before I order. I asked about this when I purchased the Belkin Camera transfer which did not work and someone suggested the IPod adaptor.
I am also concerned that is says to attach the adapter to your iPod dock, does that mean the USB connection or do you need to have a docking accessory too, the one the iPod can stand up in and charge?

  • Photos from Canon EOS 300d crash iPhoto'11?

    Hi everybody,
I need help with iPhoto: iPhoto closes when working with photos or after import of photos (jpg AND crw) taken by Canon EOS 300d. No probs with other cameras (panasonic, iphone, Canon 450d, ...). Error occurs after installing the last raw update 3.8. Before everything worked fine (pics from 2003 on)!
    Nothing helps:
    - new library
    - new library with new user
    - deleting iphoto and reinstalling
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and greetings,
    Thorsten
edit: pictures are on HDD (local / NAS).

I suppose is NOT cameraraw 3.8 but something in Faces/iPhoto.
Did you already backup the Library?
I am not a specialist in iPhoto, so we wait for a specialist coming in.
    Second rate advice from me:
    reinstall iPhoto,
download a program to recover a corrupted Libray and run it, there is something in another thread about this- this last week).

  • After loading Lion I cannot open some pictures. I get Unsupported Image Format. It tells me picture was taken with Canon EOS Rebel with unknown lens

After loading Lion I cannot open open some pictures in Aperture. I get Unsupported Image Format, all files even the ones I can open are .JPG. Also it tells me picture was made using Canon EOS Rebel with unknown lens.

You mention that 'most' of your files are DNG. Try
running the effected files through Adobe DNG
converter again and then import your reprocessed
files to Aperture and see if the problem persists.
I had a problem with a batch of D2x files converted
to DNG which had been metadata tagged by
    PhotoMechanic (the evil app).
B.T.W. You mention that you had been using Bridge.
Are you getting any of the embedded XMP metadata
coming into Aperture during the import process?
Already tried that multiple times...no luck. I'm wondering though if it might be related to metadata as you suggest. I'm still trying different things to see what happens.
I was able to alleviate the problem on one set of images by painstakingly searching my external drive for the oldest backups I could find - CR2 files from before DNG conversion. I then ran those through DNG Converter and tried importing them again (this time, I embedded NO thumbnail, but I'm not sure if that made the difference - I think it was more likely a fluke in the original conversion that caused the problem). This time, it worked.
Now, the big problem is that I still have a couple hundred images for which I can't seem to locate the original CR2 files. I don't typically keep them after conversion, as I don't have the space for both.

  • Missing photos after import - Canon EOS Digital Rebel

    Hi,
After two calls to Apple Support I have solved this issue for this digital roll of 12 raw format images. Here are details for whoever might be interested.
For some reason, iPhoto 6.0.6 was unable to import all of the images from a Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera. 7 out of 12 downloaded fine, however iPhoto seemed to stall at 5 remaining.
Further efforts to rebuild photo library did not help, and the images were never transferred from the camera to the iPhoto 6.0.6 on MacBook Pro Intel (not in original folder).
Then I tried to import the images to the iPhoto 6.0.6 on MacBook Pro Intel via a different user. Then I deleted the first 7 images from the memory card, and tried to import with iPhoto and with ImageCapture. None of these worked.
Then a new memory card with 4 test images (2 large, 2 raw) did import to iPhoto ok.
Then I used Canon File Viewer Utility to drag the 5 images from the first memory card to the desktop. And then I reformatted that memory card.
Before deleting or reformatting the memory card I was also able to import the 12 images to a 12in PowerBookG4 with iPhoto5 version 5.0.4 ok.
From now on however I will be counting the images from card to iPhoto.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

  • Windows 7 64 bit canon rebel xti compatibility issue

I am having trouble to get my canon rebel xti (400D) to work under windows 7 64 bit. You see the canon camera icon in the devices and printers window with a yellow triangle indicating it's not working properly. Did anyone have the same issue and even got an answer to it?
    Thanks.

I believe I have a solution for you and any other XTi owners who don't have the "Print/PTP" option in their menu.  I was able to get my XTi to function with Windows 7 64-bit last night.  Here is what I did:
    1) Installed the default Canon utilities disk that came with the camera (which installed without an issue, but wouldn't recognize the camera).
    2) I downloaded the updated EOS Utility version 2.6.1 for Windows Vista x64 from here:http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=14256
    3) I installed the default Canon utilities disk that came with the camera (which installed and opened without an issue, but wouldn't recognize the camera to download pictures).
    4) I executed the 2.6.1 EOS Utility update that I downloaded and received the following error: "Installation program of EOS Utility requires administrator priveleges" even though it was being run as an administrator.  Any compatibility options that I selected on the installation resulted in the same error.
    5) When you receive the error mentioned in the prior step, DON'T click the "OK" button.  First, navigate to the follwing path: "C:\Users\admin-user\AppData\Local\Temp\".  Inside this directory, you should see a directory named something like "CanonUPW_000".  Copy this whole directory to another location, then click "OK" on the installation program error on the screen (which removes the directory you just copied).
    6) Open the directory that you copied in the last step and navigate to the following location: ".\CanonUPW_000\INST\INSTALL\COMMON".  You should find an "Install.exe" file in this directory.
    7) Open the properties of this "Install.exe" file, then select the "Compatibility" tab.
    8) Select the "Change settings for all users" button and select the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
    9) Under the "Privilege Level" section, select the "Run this program as an administrator", then click OK twice.
    10) Execute the "Install.exe" file.  The installation should start and finish succeffully.
    11) The EOS Utility should successfully open after you execute it (following the installation).
    12) The only thing that doesn't work exactly the same as with using EOS Utility with XP.  When you plug your camera in, the program doesn't automatically open.  After opening the EOS Utility, you can connect the camera and download pictures, or utilize the software's remote control function.
I hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

  • Downloading raw images from Canon Rebel XTi and problem with Border FX

Aperture no longer downloads raw images from my Canon 400D / Rebel Xti and installed Lexar Professional UDMA card. I am able to download images to my Dell laptop. This is a new phenomenon only occurring since about 10 days ago. I am currently able to download images from my Canon 5D.
Also, my computer has locked up 4 times today when I have been starting Border FX. I have seen a screen saying that I have to restart my computer by holding down the on button. I have the most recent version of the Border FX software.
    Any suggestions please?

Join the crowd! I just started to experience exactly the same thing on both of my systems. Apparently the latest raw camera drivers broke something related to Canon Rebel cameras. I'm using the Rebel XT.
I tried a quick experiment the other day. I shot a bunch of test photos forcing the camera to store them as JPEGs. I was able to download those without a problem. I then forced the camera back to raw mode and shot a few more pictures on the same memory card. The JPEGs that I was able to download previously no longer will download and neither will the raw files.
I tried reverting to the older camera raw driver on my notebook but for some reason it won't let me do that. I haven't tried reverting on the desktop yet.
Hopefully this problem is fixed quickly. I've got a ton of pictures from a recent vacation I'd like to off load.
By the way, this affects the iPhoto, Aperture and Image Capture apps.

  • Canon EOS Rebel T3 not taking out pictures

I have my camera since 2010. lastweek I tried taking out pictures and realise I wasnt getting a focus but I took a picture. Now today, I am pressing the shutter button but nothing.
I have a stock lense EFS 18-55MM and its on the Canon EOS Rebel T3.
I took the lense out and cleaned the contacts, and replaced the lense, this did not helped. I also did a manual reset on the features but that didnt help either.
    Please help me.

    Hey Mike,
Indded I understand the underexposure and I have been taking pictures since 2010 with this Camera, no problems. I used the stock settings and after doing my course, i understtod the aperture, shutter speed and ISo, however I just dont understand how I can pickup my camera and it stop taking Pictures.
I have gone thru all the basics to ensure in ruling out the possibilites. I am surrently reading back all my notes and refreshing my memories about it all. Its always good to refresh the memory.
I willcontinue researching and understanding some more. I still unclear why my camera is behaving such way. I intend to get to the bottom of this. I am a photography and I need my camera to shoot.
I am going to try and change the exposure to not underexpose to be be normal. I usually shoot in Manual since i have freedom of my shoots. I have perfected in shoot in this mode, but what are the odds.
So i tried shooting on Program mode and its working perfect, I come to the conclusion that my manual mode is screwed up. I did however had my brother use my camera a day but i was present, now i have to backtrack and see what he did in Maunal mode. Thank very much for helpingme out,
I will keep posting of any weird behavious experience.
However what are the basic settings I should in manual mode?

  • Canon EOS Rebel T3 Freezing or locking up.

Hi there, I have a canon eos rebel t3, I'm trying to figure out what is going on with this for a friend and trying to fix it. I had to fix a ribbon cable that her husband broke trying to fix a button that he thought was broken because the disp button wouldnt make the lcd come on. Heres pretty much is whats happening. I have tried new card, reformatted the cards. Sometimes it will work fine, but seems if you actually try to take alot of pictures in few secs it ends up freezing up, and the display doenst work or any of the buttons do anything, but you can hear beeps sometimes. But in the view finder the green writing is still visible on the buttom. It also will click to take picture but will not try to focus or autofocus. When it finally goes back to not acting up the focus works again and the buttons work. It seems like its locking up or has errored out trying to write to the memory. I don;t think it would be the lcd display because when it does work the lcd display has no problems. I have tried other memory cards with high read/write speeds. I tried to reformat them. Also when you plug the camera into the computer when is acting up the computer does not reconize it at all. Please give me some help on getting the problem down to one area of the camera so I can fix it for my friend that just doenst have the money to afford a new camera even with the trade in program Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hi kordris!
    Thanks for posting.
At this point, the best suggestion we have would be to remove the battery from the camera for a few minutes when it freezes up, then put it back in the camera.  If the camera's controls still freeze up and do not operate, the camera will need to be repaired.  To start this process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.

  • Nikon D40 or canon eos digital rebel xt

I'm looking to make the transition from p and s cameras to an SLR. I have my eye on these two cameras. I'd be using them mostly for scenic shots and sports photography. I don't really have a budget (I don't mind spending more for the canon), my concern lies with the practicality of using each at my level. If I get the canon will there be too many options for me to grasp? Alternately, if I get the D40 will I quickly outgrow it and have to spend more for a new camera anyways?
I also had a question about shooting raw jpegs. I'm fairly fluent in Photoshop cs3 in terms of design and compositing elements. Can CS3 edit raw jpegs or will I have to purchase a program like Aperture? Thanks.

Are you buying these "used" and at a substantial discount from suggested retail? Both are old and have been replaced by cameras in the same price range with substantially better specs.
The Canon EOS Rebel XS and the Nikon D3000 compare with nearly identical specs. Both have 10 Megapixel sensors. Sensors are nearly the same size. Both come as a 'kit' with an 18-55mm image-stabilized lens, and both have similar street prices (you should have no trouble finding them for about $470 -- both Amazon and BH Photo sell them at that price.)
When I look for the Rebel XT or D40 they're hard to find and the places that claim to have them want more money for them than the substantially improved cameras that took their places in the respective model lines.
10 megapixel crop frame sensors do a very respectable job. Unfortunately those start 18-55mm zoom lenses are "good" but not "great". With higher quality lenses these cameras will take much better pictures. Unfortunately high quality lenses cost as much or more than the whole starter camera outfit -- so that's probably something to grow into.
I don't know the Nikon lens line-up as well as I know the Canon (I'm a Canon guy but I'm not particularly biased.... basically in the competitive landscape of DSLRs it seems to be a slug out between only Canon and Nikon. There are lots of others but I think they trail behind.
Though you can get models with 12, 15, 20, megapixel I think 10 is really very substantial. At this point the lens quality becomes a major factor in how good the photos will look as many lenses don't deliver enough definition for higher resolution sensors to show off their best work. This is the case with the 'starter' lenses that come with these cameras. They are "o.k." and will take decent pictures (far better than you'd ever get with a compact camera), but when you take a tool like Aperture and put the image in full-size mode (so every pixel on the screen represents a pixel from the camera) you'll see that the images aren't so crisp. At that point it's more about acquiring better lenses than it is about acquiring a better camera.
On the Canon side, the EF-S lens series are designed specifically to work with the crop-frame sensor cameras. The EF (without the "-S") are designed to work with the full-frame sensor cameras but will also work perfectly with the crop-frame (EF works with any Canon EOS -- Rebel or not). The reverse is not true (EF-S lenses will NOT work with Canon's full-frame sensor models). If you plan to upgrade but keep your lens inventory then keep that in mind when making purchase decisions. On the other hand, EF-S lenses are usually more affordable -- so if the price of EF lenses isn't practical for your budget (especially the EF lenses that come with "L" series optics -- astonishingly gorgeous optical quality but VERY spendy price tags.) you might just stick with the EF-S lenses anyway.
Similarly, the Nikon's come in crop-frame sensor versions (e.g. the D3000) or full-frame sensor versions (e.g. the D3). Full-frame is MUCH better, but also much more expensive. You'd have to ask a Nikon guy how their lens line-up works. I'm assuming they have similar nuances, but I'm afraid I can't be much help there since I have no experience with them.
As for Aperture vs. Photoshop... they're very different beasts. Photoshop does wholesale image manipulation. Aperture does better photographic quality adjustment and also manages all your photos but doesn't do wholesale image manipulation (e.g. you couldn't cut a person out of one photo and stick them in another using Aperture. But you can touch-up images in Aperture... e.g. remove a minor object using the clone tool, touch up blemishes, etc.). I have both Aperture and Photoshop CS4 -- not sure how Adobe is for providing RAW updates for CS3 since it's no longer the 'current' version.
