  • Canon G10 Raw Shots

So I think I realize that I cannot use my antiquated Photoshop 5 with RAW shots taken on my Canon G10.  However I was not able to get any assistance from the help line as to which version I need to upgrade to.  I don't have an open bank account so if anyone could make a suggestion as to which is the most cost effective that would work I would greatly appreciate it.  I'm starting to think that shooting in RAW was a mistake.  All are underwater pictures taken in Bonaire and I would really like to work with them

If by version 5 of Photoshop you mean just plain Photoshop 5.0 from the late 90s or early 2000's, then it is too old to upgrade to the current version of Photoshop which is 11 or CS4 and you cannot buy an earlier version of Photoshop, either, so the answer to your question is that you need to buy Photoshop 11 at the full price if you actually want to use Photoshop directly with your RAW images.
You may be talking about some other product with Photoshop in its name, like Photoshop Elements or Photoshop Premier (video) or Photoshop Lightroom, but the answer to what version to upgrade to is still likely the same, unless, perhaps Photoshop Elements 5 is still a valid candidate for the current version of Photoshop Elements which is 8.
You may also be talking about Adobe Camera RAW version 5 and since the current version of ACR is 5.6 and upgrades from ACR 5.x to 5.6 would be free, there is no upgrade cost.  ACR 5.x shipped with Photoshop 11 or CS4 so you'd be set by just performing the latest ACR update.
If you don't want to spend $600-ish on PS-CS4 then you could spend half that and get Lightroom 2, now, or even use the LR3 beta from labs.adobe.com until next April and then buy LR3 for $300-ish.
However, if you don't want to spend even that amount of money, then I'd suggest getting Photoshop Elements 8 for around $99 and update it (manually according to the instructions on the ACR update pages) to ACR 5.6 and you'll be able to work with your images one-by-one, which is not as slick as doing multiple images in ACR as hosted in Photoshop, itself, but you'd be using the current ACR technology.
There may be version differences I am not that up on if you are on a Mac and using Elements, where perhaps PSE5 is not that old compared to the currently available version and possibly upgradable to whatever the current Mac version of Elements is.
If none of this answers your question, then be more specific as to what Photoshop 5 means, exactly, since many products have Photoshop in their name.

  • Canon C500 Raw and RMF file format

Does anyone know if Adobe has plans to include native support for the Canon 4K Raw file format (.RMF) specifically for speedgrade and After Effects? I am looking at work flows for an upcoming project that will most likely be shot on the C500 in 4k recorded raw onto the Gemeni 4:4:4 external recorder but my adobe suite has no way to color grade the dailies or even link up the online and offline edit without support for the raw files. If there is something forth coming what is the time frame if not is there a 3rd party solution?
    Thanks,

  • Canon G10 RAW in CS2?

I use CS2 successfully with my Canon 5DMk1 RAW images, but even though it appears to be fully updated it won't read RAW from my G10.  Is there a plug in for the G10, or do I have to upgrade to a later version of CS?  Must I go to CS4, or will CS3 work?

You need the latest version of the DNG Converter, available here:

    Hey Ian, thanks for that.
since you seem to know this stuff, I have an additional question, - I hope you're still there :
So if I upgrade to OSX 10.4.11, which version of Aperture do I need then? And what are the requirements for my computer to run the OSX 10.4.11 ? I have a macPro, dont ask me whats already inside it in terms of capacity- I dont go around remembering those things. ..

  • Processing Canon G10 RAW Images in CS3 and Lightroom 2.1

I've not found a post on point. If I've missed one, sorry.
Contemplating getting a G10. After research here's what I understand. Please, correct me if I am wrong:
    1. To process a G10 image in ACR, one has to have 5.2. One cannot use 5.2 in CS3. To process the image in CS3 one has to first convert to DNG. This can be done by way of a separate converter OR in Lightroom 2.1, on import.
    2. Lightroom 2.1 will process the image in either RAW or DNG formats.
So, since I own both Lightroom and CS3 -- I will be able to use ACR in Lightroom if I don't want to convert to DNG first.
    Am I right?
I don't want to buy the camera if I can't use my usual workflow.
    Thanks.
    sjh
PS. I think my CS4 Master Suite will arrive tomorrow. But, there is a lot of odd information about ACR and the G10 out there so I thought I'd take the time to clear it up and see if I got it right.

Lightroom 2.1 does NOT support native files from the G10. LR 2.2, which will be released in December will. So for both programs you need to use the Adobe DNG converter 5.2 to convert to DNG for the time being. It is unclear whether when you have LR 2.2 and CS3 installed whether "Edit in Photoshop" will work correctly with files from cameras such as the G10. It will always work fine if you use dng.

  • Canon SX50 Raw and PSE 11

I was told by Bradshaw, the online Adobe Chat Rep, that PSE 11 would fix the problem I have in PSE10 of editing Canon SX50 HS Raw files.  I also read on DPReview site that I could download and Install ACR 7.3 and it would fix the issue in PSE 11.  It won't install.  Anybody got and answer to this challenge.

Your camera gets support in version 7.3 which is out of beta testing and now available as a release candidate. You may want to wait for the final version of camera raw 7.3 which will be available shortly. Alternatively download the release candidate now but make a note to update when the final version is released.

  • Canon CR2 RAW and PhotoShop CS4

Just got the RAW update for my Canon SX1 IS.
Neither Bridge CS4 nor PhotoShop CS4 (both fully updated) recognise the format despite CR2 being listed in the Bridge file associations for PhotoShop CS4.
In Bridge I just get a file icon.
In PhotoShop I get a 'file type not recognised' type of message.
Must I use Canon Digital Photo Profession to convert to TIF for processing in Adobe Camera Raw, or am I missing something?

Thanks for the tip Ellir. I downloaded 5.4RC last night and it didn't have support (tested) and today official 5.4 gets released with the support. I feel lucky
And to whiners, I'm just asking a question. I really feel that forums would have warmer welcoming and less elitism. But oh well.
Anyways SX1 problem solved, tested and it works. Thank you Adobe.

  • Lightroom 5.5 Camera RAW 8.5 importing Canon G16 RAW (and jpg) to dng results in blank grey slides in Library. Works individually in Development but reverts to blank in Library. Colour management is set on sRGB. Also reports error on backup and fails to b

All the other pix in the library are fine.  I'd really appreciate a solution.

I tried replying by e-mail and it hasn't come through, so I'll reply using the web forums, and there may eventually be two replies with similar suggestions...
The second part of your issue got truncated, so you might want to include what else you said in a reply.
Regarding the gray thumbnails, this is usually a bad display profile, but can also be a corrupted previews cache.
dj_paige already posted a link to a page about changing the monitor profile to sRGB, although perhaps you’ve done that.
The other thing that could be wrong is your previews cache may be corrupted.  The way to fix that is to delete the previews cache and let LR start a new one.  If you don’t know where your catalog is, look in the LR Preferences / Catalog Settings and the path is indicated on one of the panels.
Using Explorer or Finder, go to the folder that has your catalog in it and your previews cache will be a folder called:
         catalogname Previews.lrdata
You should exit LR and then rename that folder to have a different name (using Explorer/Finder) and then restart LR.  You could delete it, too, but if renaming doesn't fix the problem then you can just rename it back and have your old previews, again.
It is possible that there is some other problem that would be more obvious if we could read the rest of your message that was truncated.

  • Adjusting canon G10 raw in elements 8

I'm using the trial version before I buy.  The Camera Raw plugin in the program is 5.5.0.97.  I can open the raw file in editor, but it doesn't bring up the raw editing sliders.  Is it because I'm using the trial version, or do I need to do soemthing in set up.

    Hi,
Can you please tell which OS are you using?
Also that you are talking about the Profiles or the adjustment setting sliders on the right?
Neways, you can try updating the Camera Raw plugin and see if thhis solves the problem.

  • CS4 MAC Canon G10 RAW file panorama stitch problem problem

    Hi,
I was loading 5 RAW files into CS4 auto stitch. The file view fine a thumbnails in ACR 5.2 and Bridge but I noticed that when I was attempting to select which images to select for stitching in CS4 that the I could not see thumbnail detail in the selection view panel. After I selected the images I wanted by file name CS4 crashed when I tried to start the panorama stitching process... Anyone else had problems like this?
MacPro 2.66 GHZ dual core. 6GB RAM and Latest version of CS4, ACR on Leopard.

It's working fine on my machine running Tiger. Your setup is a lot more powerful than mine, and mine handles a 5-raw-image-file panorama fairly snappy.
Photoshop 11 ("CS4"). Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

  • Aperture 2 Rendering underwater sunburst wrong - Canon G10, .cr2 RAW format

I've noticed that when Apple's Aperture 2 displays my underwater Canon G10 RAW pictures of sunbursts - picture of the sun taken from underwater - they are rendered wrong with a dark ring around the burst and are really blown out.
See link to photos of what I mean:
    http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/canon-corner/308952-aperture-2-1-4-w-canon-g10- raw-sunburst-render-wrong.html#post4794371
Both photos use default settings, the "aperture214_g10RAW.jpg" was exported using Aperture 2.1.4 while the "photoshopCS4_g10RAW.jpg" was exported with Adobe Photoshop CS4.
Anyone have problems with this? Is there a setting I need to change to get it right?
    Thanks!
    jason

    Thanks for the help.
Below is a link to my website where you can download the .cr2 file. I zipped it up. Please let me know what you find out. I also tried converting the file to .dng with Adobe's converter and still get the same look with the Apple interpreter.
In Aperture I tried tweaking the RAW, white balance, highlights, recovery, hue boost..etc but can not reproduce what it looks like in the Photoshop render.
Let me know what you can do. File is 13mb.

  • Macbook won't read card from Canon G10 in USB port

I can't copy Canon G10 RAW files from an SD card via a USB card reader onto an aluminum MacBook. I tried using Adobe Lightroom (the way I usually do this on another machine) to import the files but it couldn't recognize them. I tried to copy the files into a folder on the Desktop but I got a insufficient priveleges message. It seemed to copy the file names but tnot the files. When I tried to remove the card I got a "File is in use and can't be removed" message.
The card reader and the card work fine on a 24"Intel iMac.
Another USB card works fine in the card reader on the MacBook, too.
    I'm puzzled.

Some added info, i CAN boot the bricked machine into Safe mode, but at reboot I get stuck in the same cycle again.
Oh, and in SafeBoot, the Macbook still tells me that no Airport card is installed, even though I know it does (and it's not knocked loose or anything).....

  • Canon G10 thumbnails don't work??

    Hi -
I have CS4 and have installed the latest update but the thumbnails for Canon G10 raw files do not display (ACR will open and convert them properly). All other raw files (nikon) do display thumbs.
Any one have a tip for troubleshooting this?
    thanks,
    Tom O'Connell

Have you purged the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Bridge Tools menu?
Also check the ACR forum. I seem to remember that some type(s) of files from certain Canon files are not supported (not considered true or conforming raw files)

  • Canon G10 problems

Lets see if I can sort this out accurately.
I have the most current version of Photoshop and Bridge with the latest Camera raw update.
I attach my Canon G10 camera and download the new images to Bridge using the Adobe Importer. When the images are opened in Bridge, about half seem to be "Corrupted". There are white and colored bands thru out the images. I can open them up at this point in Photoshop and they appear fine, though I cannot save them back as Camera raw Images. If I run this folder thru Adobe DNG Converter they are still messed up.
Now if I re import the same images from the camera to the computer using the Canon software. They still are corrupted in Bridge, but if now run this folder thru Adobe DNG Converter, they open up fine in Bridge.
    Help!!

    Hi Michael,
Regardless of whether this has anything to do with your problem or not (though I suspect it might), I would recommend you use a card reader instead of attaching the camera to the computer.  Card readers are dirt cheap these days. I bought one for under $5 including tax and shipping.
This excerpt is from a long-gone post by author Bruce Fraser:
    Bruce Fraser - 4:17pm Jun 14, 04 PST (#5 of 21)
Opening files directly from the camera is a bad idea for a variety of reasons*, and it most certainly isn't faster than using a FireWire or USB2 card reader.
             • Drains the camera battery
             • Runs the risk of the software you're using to open the images writing to the card and destroying the format
             • Runs a small but significant risk of USB power frying the camera
             • Slowest method known to mankind of getting images off a CF or SD card
Image corruption like you describe suggests a hardware problem, the camera's USB contact, the USB cable itself or the USB port or hub on your computer being the prime suspects.
