Canon G12

Hello,
Does anyone knows how to install a Canon G12 as a webcam in a MacBook with OSX 10.5.8?
Thanks
Halim

I don't have a G12, but the user guide manual that came with your G12 will tell you if it has a webcam output capability.  In my brief review of the manual, I did not see webcam output listed as one of its features.  If you cannot find whether your G12 has a webcam feature, the retailer who sold you the camera or the Canon phone help line should be able to help.
If the G12 has not webcam output capability, consider these alternatives:
• If the G12 has no webcam setting, you can still connect its AV output to the input of a AD converter like the Canopus® DV ADVC110 and then connect the ADVC110's Firewire output to your Mac for use with many apps that can accept external cameras.  Given the cost of the converter compared to external webcams, this option would make sense only if you already have an AD converter.
• If you do not have an AD converter that is compatible with your system but you need an external webcam, consider a webcam like one of those identified here.  Check the system requirements for compatibility with both your system and the software that you will use to operate the camera before you buy.

  • Can't import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6

unable to import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6 (Mac OS-X (10.5.8) - any ideas?

You'll need to install the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.5 - Search the Support/Downloads site for that.
It still may not work. Iphoto 6 is an elderly piece of software now and predates your camera by several years. If it doesn't work you'll need to update to iPhoto 09 or later.

  • Canon G12 RAW files not recognized

The DNG converter V6.3 I just downloaded and installed does not recognize RAW files from my Canon G12.  Any idea why?

I read through those linked pages, but they didn't give me any solution.
After nosing around through a LOT of sites on Adobe's site (why aren't pages dated, took forever to find the most up to date or pertinent pages)…I found this one that was slightly related, but worked for me.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/acr-84-bridge-cs6-metadata.html
I had to download this zip, and manually place the plugin as directed, and now, After Effects CS6 will recognize my CR2 raw files from my canon 5D3.
Thank you for the help, it led me in the right direction, but the link above was the actual solution I found that worked!!

No. You need to upgrade your software. ACR 6.3 requires PSE 9 or CS4/ CS5 products. Check this: Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

  • Canon G12 raw

How do I read Canon G12 raw files?  I downloaded DNG converter 6.3.  Still can't read the files.

6.3 should cover the G12, but there is no reason not to use the most up to date version.

  • Camera RAW for Canon G12?

Is there currently no support for RAW images from Canon G12 cameras?  I'm not able to view the RAW images from my new G12 camera in Photoshop or Bridge CS5.

The beta relaease of camera raw 6.3 supports that camera.

  • Problem with Canon G12 RAW file

I'm very disappointed because I can't use Lightroom with my new camera! I have this issue since LR 3.3. and CR 6.3 started to support Canon G12's raw file. Any raw file is decoded incorrectly, picture is grained, it has a lot of noise at any ISO (even 80 or 100). The defect is noticeable only at 100% zoom, not at 50% or other sizes.
I tried to do also a clean installation of LR 3.4.1 and CR 6.4.1 but the problem persists. (I use LR 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit; with PS 12.1 64 bit I have the same problem)
Yes, the camera is ok, and with Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.10 all is perfect, the same picture is amazing.
    Is there any solution please?
    Thank you!
    Davide

It may be that DPP knows how much default noise reduction to apply to your G12's raw images and Lightroom doesn't.
Can you adjust LR's noise reduction sliders to get a better image? If so, you could make that amount of reduction a default.
If that doesn't work for you, could you post a sample raw image somewhere that we could bring it into Lightroom and see what you are writing about?

  • Camera Connection Kit not working with Canon G12

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can help me...
I just purchased the iPad Camera Connection Kit and when I plugged both the SD card and USB connectors in with the appropriate divices connected, and turned on, neither worked. Absolutely nothing happens.
My iPad picks up the CCK in the 'about' section in Settings but the Photo App did not load when the connectors where in. I am thinking it has something to do with my camera/SD card
    Information:
    iPad - Generation 1, Version 5.1.1, 16GB
Camera - Canon G12 Power Shoot. It has Picture Transfer Protocol
SD card - SanDisk SDHC card 4GB
Also, the camera saves the photo files in the DCIM folder with 8 characters, e.g. IMG_1234
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
    Many thanks,
    CJ

I cannot find these settings anywhere on my camera or in the manual.
I had to do some searching on the internet just to find out it had picture transfer protocol. I am struggling to find answers about the G12's PTP or Mass Storage.
    Sorry...

  • I have CS5 and Elements 9.  Neither one will open my raw photographs from either my Canon EOS 6D or Canon G12 cameras.

I have CS5 and Elements 9.  Neither one will open my raw photographs from either my Canon EOS 6D or Canon G12 cameras.
    Do you understand my problem?

    Hi,
What operating system are you using?
Both photoshop cs5 and pse 9 should be able to open the canon G12 files, but you probably need to update camera raw
For cs5 go to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs5 to get camera raw 6.7
For pse 9 you have to download and run the installer for camera raw 6.5
    windows:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5264
    mac:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5263
For the canon EOS 6D you'll need the 8.4 dng converter to convert the files to dng copies which cs5 and pse 9 should open, since neither cs5 or pse 9 can be updated to the newer camera raw plugin required for the 6D files.

    mac:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5738
    Note:
If you have windows xp or vista or mac os x 10.6, then you'll have to use the 8.3 dng converter instead of 8.4

  • IPhoto Canon G12 RAW

    Hello,
did anyone know why iPhoto did not know the RAW files from my Canon G12 ?
    JPEG files are no problem.

Apple needs to add support for Canon's G12 CR2 files. They recently did include support in iPhoto and Aperture 3 for the S95 CR2 files. I suspect they will come out with support for the G12 soon ([this camera came out approximately a month after the S95). Patience is all you need. In addition if you search this forum you can find several work arounds until they do which will allow you to edit this files.
Apple always supports all the RAW formats for Canon and Nikon files. It does take some time since they have to reverse engineer each new file format.......the RAW format is based on capturing 100% of the information recorded by the camera's sensor. Every time a camera manufacturer comes out with a new camera they tweak the sensor and therefor change the file format. Since the sensors are an important part of the improvements in image quality for each new camera, they treat this data as a "trade secret" and won't share the details with Apple, Photoshop etc. This forces Apple to have to reverse engineer their support every time a new camera RAW file format comes out.
Apple will include the G12 RAW files in Aperture and iPhoto.

  • Canon G12 Availability

Does anyone know when the new Canon G12 will be in the stores?

    Hi vonhau,
I do see that a customer can pre-order the Canon G12 right now on BestBuy.com, and the estimated date of delivery for this camera is listed as 10/17/2010-10/22/2010. Product availability in our stores' usually mirror our offerings on BestBuy.com pretty close, which would cause me to assume that this camera should be available in our stores sometime between 10/17/2010-10/22/2010.
Keep in mind that this is just an assumption on my part, and this camera could come sooner or later than these dates to our local stores.

  • Canon G12 Raw in PS Elements 6.0

I have found that LR 2.7 will not support G12 Raw files.
What is the situation with PS Elements?
Which is the earliest version that will support G12 Raw files?
Will the necessary version of Elements run on OS 10.4.11
Will LR 3.3 run on OS 10.4.11?

  • CS3 and Canon G12

I'm currently working with Phroshop CS3.
I’ve been using for several years a Canon PowerShot G7 and G9 as a second camera. Some days ago I decided to upgrade to the G12. However, for the first time I’ve experimented the following problem. I've shot some RAW images to try the new camera. I downloaded the image to my computer (a 2007 Dell Precision). I started my Bridge CS3 and only the RAW icon appeared on my screen (no preview). When I try to open any of these images in Camara RAW the software doesn't open it and the following message appears: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document". Could you help me undertanding what's going on?
Thank you for your time. Riccardo

Another approach would be to install Lightroom Beta 4 which will give you a working RAW conversion utility for a period.  (I guess the beta will time out when the full version is released.)  You could then pehaps purchase LR4 and cary on using CS3 and save some $$$

[EDIT]  Taking this thread off at a minor tangent, (it does mention the G12 in the thread subject) DPReview put up some full res images from the G1X a few days ago, and its high ISO performance was outstanding for a compact.  I carry two 1D bodies when I a work events, and usually take a 1DsMK3 when travelling, and it wears you down carrying all that weight.  I used to have a G10 before my wife decided she should have it, so I am definitely in the market for the G1X when it comes out.
Try it up at ISO 3200

  • Produced lens profile for Canon G12 put in folder 1.0 does not show in lightroom edit pane

Noted that adobe show lens profiles for G10, G12 G15 and G1X but only G10 shows in downloader and in lightroom edit pane profile selection
Created my own lens profile for G12 svaed it but does not come up in edit pane choices??

What LR version are you using, and does LR let you manually select the profile you want?
I take your point that Canon could have offered their own Adobe-compatible profiles, but those would probably have needed to then be supplied to the end user by Canon, not by Adobe.
I am seeing the particular Canon profiles that you mention, in LR 5.4, offered against Raw images but not against non-Raw images.
Unless you are using an older software version, or selecting perhaps a derived edit version in e.g. TIFF instead of a Raw, I am at a loss why you are not seeing them too.
I believe these will have been generated by Adobe. They are here on my PC:
Please note that there is a non-Raw profile listed there for e.g. the G10 but not for e.g. the G12. So the fact that you ARE seeing a profile for the G10, lends some weight to the idea that the image currently selected may not in fact be Raw based.
BTW, I don't think that any extra profiles that the user might make or find, and then save in here, are going to ever be seen by LR (or ACR). This is apparently the Adobe "official installed profiles only" location.
Any profiles made or found by the user, need to be saved into a similar folder within the user's data area, in order for LR to see them and use them. And if these are Raw based, they will still not appear for a non-Raw based image.
On my Windows computer, that location is C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0
This has a "Downloaded" subfolder (which is, I think, the destination used by the Adobe profile downloader utility).

  • Elements 7 & Canon G12

Any advice would be helpful please!
I'm thinking of buying a Canon PowerShot G12 and would like to know. Will I be able to use E7 to open any Raw files taken with this camera?
At the moment I have a Minolta Dimage A200 and have no problems. Is there a raw plug-in that is compatible to both these cameras?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks Barbara,
I appreciate your comment that most helpful. I'm contemplating upgrading to E9  that's if my computer will support it
I have been trying to find out if my 128MB DDR NVidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card is 16-bit,
