Canon G20 And File Importing

Happy Thanksgiving (almost there, anyway),
Final Cut Pro-X will support the footage generated by the Canon G20, but will it import it into the program directly from the camera or need the AVCHD files, et al., be copied to the hard disk first?

I have a new Canon G15 and am not able to import RAW files into iPhoto. I get an error message the says the file is a unreconized format (CR2). I have Lion OS 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4.2 and have updated camera RAW campatiblity. Thanks

G15 is supported by RAW update 4.01 for OS X Lion according to this support article -- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757 - I would verify that you have that RAW update or newer installed

Canon Vixia HF20 file import

Hi,
I just got a Canon Vixia HF20 AVCHD camcorder, but didn't think to see if it was compatible with Mac.
Does anyone have this camcorder and know how to get the video files transferred into the mac from it? I can mount the drive on my mac, but cannot find any video to import, although I know there is some on there? I have Final Cut Studio which I am going to try to use this with-

What brings me back is that I got the canon HF 20 and used the importing method you mentioned below. But the files are ridiculously huge. I have cleared most of the 250 GB of space on my computer just to import and burn a DVD of a 1:18 piece.
Would I be able to get an external drive (I'm using a new mac pro 15" laptop) to import the files into and edit with, so I don't take up all my space on my computer? Or is there another method you might be able to suggest to import, edit and export these files?

Canon 5d markII file import

I am trying to figure out how to get the video files made from the new Canon 5D to import properly into FPC. the file is
H.264, 1920 x 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
fps: 30
I cant seem to find the right sequence preset and I keep getting error messages.
when I try to log and transfer I get a warning that says
MVI_0992.mov contains unsupported media or has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure maches supported media.
when I just drag to a timeline of a new sequence its allways mismatching( I have tried many presets)
and the file will not play for more that one or two frames before giving me the "warning dropped frames" window
do I need to convert these files in compresser BEFORE I edit them? Im confused.

Ive been told to convert the 5dmk2 files in to proress then import them in to fcp

Canon xf105 mxf files - importing multi channel audio into CC

Hi there,
We've recently upgraded to CC across our department, and I'm importing footage shot on our Canon XF-105 using the MXF wrapper. In 5.5 I was able to simply drag and drop from the project into the timeline and have both channels of audio recorded there. In CC I can only see the audio recorded with channel 1 and my clip in this instance was plugged into channel 2. Is this something that is known? Am I missing something from the setup of the project?

A lot of things have changed since 5.5.
You need to set up Preferences before importing.
Set Stereo to Mono in Audio / Default Audio Tracks.
Or Modify the audio channels of the clips in the Project Window.

Different contrast with original HD files and files imported in Premiere Pro CS4

I'm experiencing a very strange problem. Not the first time though.
When I import files shot with reflex video cameras this is what happens:
It seems something like shadow/highlights feature in Photoshop, but I haven't done anything to have
such a huge difference.
When I import files shot with my Sony HVR Z1 regular videocamera nothing weird happens and everything
works perfectly.
Any ideas?

I now use CS5 and I do not use a "reflex" camera... so this is only a GUESS
Does your timeline have red over the "reflex" video when you 1st import, and before you do any work?
If yes, that means you have a mismatch between your project and your video

Help: Canon hf200 .mts file imported as 29.97FPS instead of 60FPS (60i). How to fix?

Hey everyone, first post, and I have a question. I searched and I couldn't find an answer for this.
I'm filming on a canon hf200 (class 4 sdhc card--if that makes any difference). I'm filming at 24Mbps on the 60i setting, but when I import in to Premiere, the footage gets imported at 29.97FPS. For my sequence settings, I'm selecting desktop, then 59.94 FPS (since I could not find an AVCHD setting with 60fps), and the clips are still not imported as 60 (or 59.94) FPS. Am I missing something? Settings not right? Have to convert to get 60FPS? Any help will be appreciated!

It's unfortunate that camera makers cause this confusion. The proper nomenclature is to only list frame rates, never the field rate. Sometime people violate that convention and mistakenly list the field rate instead, causing this type of confusion.
Your camera should be labeling the mode as 30i, because that's what it is, 30 interlaced frames per second.

Thumbnails populate slowly, and file import twice (two questions)

Lately, I've been noticing that thumbnails take longer than usual to populate for existing images in the Grid View. I'm using LR 5.6, Windows 7-64 Professional. Plenty of RAM and an SSD where the catalog and .lrdata reside. Any thoughts on how I might improve matters?
Also, I notice when I import images from my camera that already imported images sometimes get imported again. I've checked the box "don't import suspected duplicates" and I'm selecting "New Photos." Again, any input would be appreciated.

CS5 editing mode not supported and file import error

Hi. I edited a series of projects on PP CS5 on my iMac. My computer crashed, so I am now working off my MacBookPro to finish off a few projects. I have PP CS5, Final Cut Pro, and Quicktime all installed. I have also downloaded all the ProAppsQTcodecs. All of the projects were edited in Pro Res 422. I have been scouring the forums, but cannot find anything that has worked so far.

Canon 7D Raw File - Show can't adjust

I just got my canon 7d and I imported my RAW files to aperture 3.2.4. At first I didn't see the RAW File extra adjustment, so I close and open aperture and fter doing that, I can't add any adjustments. I can use presets, but when I I try to add let say Curves, nothing happen. I know that apertre support 7d raw files. I used to have a canon T3i and I was able to process and edit RAW files. Maybe is not working because aperture is using the settings from my previews camera. IDK Thanks ahead of times.

1: Use command + S and power on the Mac to start in single user mode then type   sbin/fsck/ -fy (after that is finished… type) reboot
If its still a problem re-install aperture and the OS.

MTS File Import CS6

I have read through quite a few discussions on this, but I have tried many things and am really stuck right now.
Just finished a 3 camera wedding and the wide locked down cam was a Canon camcorder(Vixia HF M301) shooting 30(60i) AVCHD
When I import the files in the media browser to the project, everything is fine all the way from 00000 - 00035. 00036 is correct, but repeats itself through 00039.
00040 appears to be correct but repeats itself through 00046.
I have tried using media browser and file import methods and also dragging the clips directly onto the timeline. I have tried multiple methods of importing the private folder and directly with the file. The windows directory shows a matching XMP file with every clip which Premiere CS6 doesnt seem to recognize.
I had experienced something like this once on an older Canon camcorder using a hexidecimal file numbering system.
This is the reception section and since this cam ran for all most all of eve, I need it to sync audio with two other cams. I guess an option would be to re-encode providing that media encoder will recognize them correctly,and provided they would match relinking them, if not I am in deep doo-doo.This is a fresh project, and I have even tried to import them into CS5.5 to no avail.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jim after a very long and frustrating day I finally managed to get it to work per your suggestion. I have always been diligent about copying all of the folder structure and making backups with my cards. I shoot GH2's and haven't had to deal with spanned files.
I had read your instructions earlier today while researching, and every attempt I made at getting to the file at the bottom of the directory, the view as AVCHD was grayed out. Just now cleaned the caches and dumped the prefs and made a fresh project, and was able to get view as avchd to work for the first time. Very happy right about now, and looking forward to editing tomorrow! Thanks so much!

Problems reconnecting media with Canon C300 MXF files

Working from Canon C300 MXF files imported into up to date premiere cc (not sure if through the media browser or through the import function). We have three stations working (one AE station and two edit bays) but only two stores of the media so we've been backing up the media onto a third drive so our other editor can work. No problems with the first editor station and AE station, they both have all the media. Our third station however...
Basically the issue we're having is certain files won't reconnect to their MXFs, even though we've maintained the file structure and all associate canon files in their folders. We're getting diagonal shading across the clips in the timeline as well as the little triangle in the corner of the clip that signifies it's the end (and sometimes beginning) of the media. When we try to play those clips they are just a black screen. But when we try to match frame, it'll bring up the clip in the viewer and play fine. The media is not technically "offline," just not playing. When I try to reconnect the media I have to make it offline first and then reconnect but continue to have the same problem. It seems like an issue with merging the spanned clip across multiple .mxf files because there's no issue with clips that are not spanned. I tried isolating the individual clips from the .xml files that tell premiere to merge them and they reconnect fine up until the end of that file and then I've got diagonal lines for the rest of the clip again. I've tried everything I can think of and we're wasting so much money on this second editor not being able to work on anything because of this. Any insight would be most appreciated.

Ah I see, I read through your link, I get that reverting could help except that all our other stations are running 7.2.2 so we'd have incongruity between stations. Whats strange is the other two stations are running fine, no problems. It's just with this other station that doesn't have all the media that's having the issue.

Why can't I import my Canon 5D raw files ?

I just went through this and found a solution for you, although I admit it is far from ideal. I had to rip a CD with the wal-mart .wma songs on it and rip that cd using itunes or similar into MP3 format. When I tried to convert using iTunes straight to .mp3 the license agreement stopped me. When I purchased the wal-mart music I think all they offered was the .wma format. Now they only offer .mp3. I emailed them and asked if they would re-issue the music I'd already purchased in the new format they responded they couldn't do that and that I'd have to repurchase and download in the new format. This solution will take longer and you need to re-type the song name, artist and album but it was the only solution to re-acquire my music downloads from wal mart. Because of this I'm now using another music provider.

Raw files for Canon 6D cannot be imported into iphoto or aperture.

How can I open Canon 6D raw images, its rubbish that I cannot use my mac for opening and seeing these files or my FujiX10 raw files?

John, some questions...
Are the images on an external or the internal of another computer?
Are you dragging them from the other computer to your desktop, then trying to import them into iPhoto?
Have you tried created a new library and importing them into that?
Have you tried creating a new administrative user, open iPhoto and try importing the images into that new library?
I forgot if you mentioned this, but are the images jpg?
If not, what are they?
On the other hard drive is there an iPhoto (you mentioned that)? Have you opened that iPhoto and imported the images into that library?

File-import and there's no printer listed to scan from

I want to scan an image from my Canon MG5220 printer's scanner directly into Photoshop CS5 (recently got new computer and printer). Before I've always been able to go into Photoshop, select File>Import and i see the printer there. However this time I don't.
In system preferences i have selected that printer as the default scanner.
I have also installed the printer on my computer with its CD.
Any ideas?

Did you install the optional TWAIN plugin? If not, go download and install it. (but remember that it was made optional because so many TWAIN drivers crash)
And your scanner driver may be limited to 32 bit addressing mode. Try launching Photoshop in 32 bit mode.
