Canon G9 not being recognized by MacBook Pro

I'm having some issues with a Canon G9 not being recognized by the particular MacBook i have to use. When i connect the G9 via USB (obviously with a good cable and camera switched on) neither Image Capture nor iPhoto recognize it. I have tried connecting the camera to a bunch of other macs (Powerbooks, latest MacBook, same model of Macbook and system as the one I'm using), they all didn't have any trouble recognizing the camera. My MaProxy-Connection: keep-alive
Cache-Control: max-age=0
ook can see any other camera I have tried without trouble... I'm using 10.5.6...
The System Profiler does actually see something being connected via USB, but it only shows up as "Composite-Device/0x04a9(Canon Inc.)".
Any ideas what might cause the issue?

Updated information ... these card do get read on an older iMac, circa 2010 or so, also running 10.8.4. For some reason, they're not being read by the internal SD reader on the macbook pro. Odd.

  • My login password is now not being recognized on MacBook Pro which is running on Mac OSx version 10.6.8?

I Was able to log-in just fine a few days ago. It recognizes the password but just goes back to the login page.

Boot to the 10.6 Installer/Utilities DVD. Do not Install. Wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility off a Menu.
Since you are not booted from the Hard drive, you can do a Disk Utility ( Repair Disk).
    Then try again.

  • New Seagate 1TB external hard drive is not being selected by MacBook Pro

My new Seagate 1TB external HD is not being identified by the MacBook Pro (10.7.5 Mac OSX). Whereas the same being recognized by a WIN8 OS based PC. I need a format wherby the external HD should be recognised by both Mac OS and Win.
    Kindly help.
Pls note my system is being run on safe mode, as there is a problem in the left shif key. Hence, while booting, it is automatically being shifted to the safe mode. I need to format the external HD, so that I can transfer to store my data.

If you want the drive to be able to both read and write on OS X and a Windows machine, you should format the drive as exFAT on the Windows machine. As to why the drive is not recognized when you boot into Safe Mode, that may be because the drive is formatted for another OS and it MAY BE that it's disabled when you run in Safe Mode (which disables a long list of things: see -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US).
If you format it as exFAT on the Windows machine, you MAY BE able to have it mount on your Mac. No guarantees, though.
    Good luck,

  • External Hard Drive Not Being Recognized By MacBook

My Toshiba external hard drive (1TB, brand new) does not show up anywhere on my MacBook Pro (Also brand new). The light on the external hard drive comes on so it's not a connection issue, like the cord being broken. But nothing happens when I plug it into my MacBook, aside from the light coming on. It doesn't pop up on the desktop or in disk utilities or finder. I don't have my old PC laptop any more, all my files from that computer are on this hard drive and all I want to do is transfer them to my MacBook. And even though I don't want to lose any of my files, I can't even erase anything on the external hard drive to reformat it because it's like...not talking to the MacBook...

Your Mac should be able to recognize many different types of drives (including Windows-formatted drives) immediately for Reading, provided they are in good working condition and not damaged. There should be no need to transfer to a different type of drive.
If there is no recognition of this drive, see if it can be seen in Disk Utility.
If your aim is to transfer the data on it DO NOT use ERASE or PARTITION as these will completely erase all the information on the Drive.
If the drive is present while the Mac sleeps, it is likely to drop out and not be seen any longer, especially if it is a USB-powered drive.

  • CD not being recognized by MacBook

    Hello!
I recently purchased the "Glee Christmas Album" (don't judge) from Target, and I was excited to get it home and put it onto iTunes. Anyways, I put it into my MacBook, the right way and everything, because I know how to import CD's since I have done it quite a few times on my MacBook before. However, for this CD, it'll make the sound it usually does when the disc drive is working, and then after about 15 seconds it will just spit the disc back out without even recognizing it on the computer! This is very confusing & frustrating, considering I had a few other recently-purchased CD's that worked just fine on here, and now this? Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the disc not to recognize and how to resolve the issue?
    Thanks!

I am having the same problem with the same Glee CD (be proud to be a Gleek!)
I think it might have something to do with the disc being a short recording. If you look at the back, the disc seems to have two different finishes. I think because only a small part of it is "written" on, it is not reading the whole disc. Anyone have a solution?

  • Optical Drive not being recognized by Macbook

I tried inserting a dvd into my Macbook today and it makes a clicking noise (something it used to do when it still played dvd videos), then it spits the dvd or music cd out. For a time it was not recognized in my system profiler, but I just checked it again and it was there, however, it still spits out the cd/dvd I stick in.
Also, when I try to open DVD Player it says, "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]"
Any ideas? I'm up-to-date on my OS and drivers, to my knowledge.

  • IPhone 3GS not being recognised by MacBook Pro

    hello.
just a few days ago i was able to sync my iPhone 3GS via iTunes to my laptop using the supplied USB cable. Today when I tried, nothing, the iPhone doesn't do anything and iTunes doesn't launch. The only update I have put on my machine is the recent 10.5.8 Security update yesterday - not sure it is related?
so in the process of elimination, I've tried the following.
    1. connected my 5.5G iPod using the same usb cable - ipod mounts fine and iTunes launches.
    2. connect my iPhone to the AC Adapter using the same usb cable - iPhone charges fine
    3. tried iPhone on all USB ports using same usb cable - nothing happens.
so I'm happy the USB cable and ports are all functional and the iPhone connector is ok, as it does charge when connected to an AC power supply.
normally when i connect my iPhone to the laptop, the phone screen turns on, iTunes launched and then it starts a backup and then sync. But this time, nothing happens at all. the iPhone remains in standby. I checked the USB ports in the Apple System Profiler but none of the USB ports are displayed as iPhone.
I have power-cycled both the iphone and laptop but it makes no difference. Any other suggestions - do you think it is hardware or software related?
    Thanks,
    James

  • Ical invites not being sent from MacBook Pro but are being sent from iphone

Hoping someone can please help me! I am suddenly unable to send iCal invites from my laptop. They look like they send, but nobody receives them and also the events don't show on my iPhone and iPad2. If I add the event on my iPhone, I do see it on my laptop. I recently did a system update and I wonder if that is the cause. Any help you can give me would be so appreciated. Thanks.

I am having this problem as well.  Specifically, when I create a new calendar meeting I am able to add users to the invitation and when I save the invite it gets sent.  I have also modified an existing calendar event that has other people invited, and when I exit editing the meeting a pop up window specifically asks if I want to save my changes "and send it to the other invited participants" or something like that.
    I click yes.
In both cases (the original creation and invitation, and the modification and send update to attendees) nothing is received by the other recipients.  Not a calendar event or invitation, not an email with a .ics attachment or similar, or not even an email notification.
Thus, I set up an event in my calendar, invite others, and no one is aware that the event was set up.
Is there any way around this?  I don't think I'm doing anything wrong as the process of creating an event, inviting someone, and sending out the invitation seems pretty straight forward.  It just isn't working.

  • SD Card not being recognized by macbook air. what do i do?

I have a Nikon D5100 and i was taking some photos and videos outside. so like any other person, i put in the sd card into the slot, but it doesn't recongnize the sd card! this is really annoying me. also, the camera-to-computer usb isn't working either! it was just working last week so what's the problem?

Another thing that might help is to open the Image Capture app.
It is in your Applications folder.  You might try opening the app yourself, then inserting the SD card.

  • Canon HF10 not being recognized by imovie....

Hi there. I have upgraded imovie to the latest version, and I can't get imovie to recognize the hf10. I have the camera plugged in to the ac adapter, I have done the following:
" Shut down imovie the remove the HOME/LIBRARY/PREFERENCES/com.apple.imovie7.plist (+ the com.apple.imovieplist if one) then restart imovie. Should be fine"
    This doesn't work either.
Finder sees the camera, but imovie doesn't. Aren't these things just supposed to "work?" Other suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Had same problem until ...
From what I can see, iMovie wants to see the camera for the first time or it will drag it's rear until the next polling function and a crash may still yet occur.
    Try this:
    UnPlug the camera and
    Quit iMovie
    Start iMovie then
    Plug in camera
    start process of
where you will be saving files to
what the project will be named
    Sit still and have patience
    iMovie will read headers then
    iMovie will build thumbnails
make sure you have properly set your preferences in iMovie
if this has any hick-ups you will have to start the whole process over again. have patience!!!
    or go out and buy

simple way to extract shots from camera with out using iMovie or even FCP then use them saved as an Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)

  • HP scanner not recognized by MacBook Pro 17" 2010

New Macbook Pro user (arrived from the factory last week) with OSX 10.6.8. Trying to get my HP scanjet 7400C to work. It's certainly not being recognized. When I look up how to install a scanner in the help it dumps me to the print and fax dialog. No indication in this dialog how to set up or use a scanner. No scan tab. No scanner options at all that I can see.
How do I install a scanner?

    Hello Jeff,
I have the same problem trying to connect an HP 7400C Scanner to my MacBook Pro 17" (2011) running Snow Leopard.  I tried downloading the drivers from HP Support Drivers (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw _lang=&product=59553#N160).  The web page indicates that it supports OS 10.3, but does not identify any later version of OSX that is supported.  When I download that package, it is not recognized as an installable image.
I am wondering what drivers and support software you downloaded and installed?
    Thanks for your help!

  • IPod touch not being recognized by iTunes on my MacBook, and on 2 other PCs

    Hello,
After scouring the web and these discussion forums to no avail, I've decided to post my problem. I downloaded iTunes 8.0 yesterday, and updated the firmware on my iPod Touch to 1.1.5. I tried connecting my iPod, and nothing happened. It is not being recognized by my MacBook. So, I tried using another USB iPod connector, and nothing happened. I tried using a firewire connector, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried connecting to my one roommate's HP laptop and see if it would get recognized there - no. I then tried on my other roommate's laptop. The device was recognized to be USB, but iTunes wouldn't go ahead and try and reformat it. I'm starting to lose my mind! I've tried resetting the iPod touch itself loads of times to no success. I've tried restarting while having the iPod connected to the computer, and still nothing.
    What should I do now?

Sorry about not getting to you on the quick-fast, but we aren't Apple employees.
What ended up being the solution you needed, as you said, you couldn't find any information already posted on this problem, so documenting your fix may help someone in the future.

  • IPod Video 5G Not recognized on MacBook Pro 17 Intel

My Ipod video 5G is not showing in iTunes or on my desktop. Not showing in System Profiler either. The ipod does charge however. I'm frustrated and stumped. I've tried the 5Rs a number of times but can't even get to the "Restore" portion. iPod works fine when not connected to my MacBook Pro. I also have a Nano and a 3G ipod (firewire) that both work fine and are recognized and update without a problem.
Anyone have an answer to getting the iPod video recognized....? Apple?
