Canon HFS10/100 import procedure?

Hi,
I'm using Final Cut 6.0.6 and I'm trying to learn to import from a Canon SD card-based camcorder (the HFS100). I understand I'm supposed to use Log & Transfer, but I'm a bit unclear about the details... I opened Log and Transfer with the camera connected and nothing happened, I was unable to choose any folders or files. But then a few minutes later I noticed the files from the canon were indeed in the log and transfer window. Is there a specific power-on/opening order?
Also the 'media start' column is at 00:00:00 for all of the clips.
I'd like to learn the best way to import, preserving all meta information if possible and get a good workflow going with this great program and this camera

Because AVCHD is a recording and a delivery format, not an editing format. AVCHD was created to capture the highest picture quality in the smallest files possible. It is very, very, very difficult to edit in because of the way the file is internally structured to save space. These forums contain countless posts from people attempting to edit directly in AVCHD, they report sluggish, frustrating performance and constant rendering.
When you ingest your files and have them converted to Pro Res, they are made edit friendly. Also the quality of Pro Res exceeds AVCHD so there is no degradation of your video. The only down side is a Pro Res file is much larger than the AVCHD file, it has to be to be edit capable - so it takes up more disc space than the original AVCHD file.
The goal of that camcorder manufacturer was to use a file system that gave people a high quality image with lots of storage space on the camera, they were not concerned with people editing the clips. Apple has stepped up and created this very convenient system where the files are automatically converted for the user on ingest so that the editing process can be much easier, and the resulting edits are in a format that also make creating DVDs, etc. much easier.

Canon HFS10 import settings for FCP3

Hello,
I have imported the .mts files from my Canon HFS10 but it has a horrible 'interlacing' effect that is totally unacceptable. So clearly I have made a mistake.
Does anyone know the settings required to import from my HFS10 at top quality?
I have shot it all as HD and the highest quality setting on the camera.
Please bear in mind I have only just gone to FCP so apologies for the amateur nature of this question!

Chances are you did nothing wrong actually - interlacing looks horrible on a progressive display, and FCP does nothing to prevent it from looking that way (Which is a good thing since it's a pro app). That being said...
What is the primary way you'll be viewing your video once you're done editing? You may be better off using one of the progressive formats on your camera (PF24 or PF30). This would avoid your interlacing problem completely, although if you use PF24 you'll have to transcode the files, then run them through compressor to remove the telecine in order to get back to your original 24 fps source.

Importing AVCHD files from Canon HFs10 cam into Premier 4.2.1 on Mac

I have a consumer camera Canon HFs10 that records AVCHD files, however I cant import them into my Mac version of premier 4.2.1. When I attempt it says it does not recognize the file. Where do I find the codec for this type of file? I have run Adobe update but the same problem still exitst.

Copy whole card to your hdd, then import via Media Browser.

Converting my VHS tapes to a DVD using a Canon Elura 100 camcorder

I'm new to iMovie and this discussion board
I am trying to convert my VHS tapes to my powerbook G4 using iMovie 3.03. I've connected the wires correctly, I've tried it with a tape in the camcorder and without a tape. iMovie shows the camera connected, but I do not see the video from the VHS tape on my laptop. I changed the AV DV to "on" like the instructions stated.
#1 do I need to upgrade to iMovie 6?
#2 Anyone know of the common problems associated with this? Specifically with the Canon Elura 100
G4 power book Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks for the response. Yes, I am able to import from my camcorder/miniDV to my laptop. I've also made sure I don't have any other devices connected except for the power cord on the camcorder and my latop, which shouldn't matter right?
I have set up my camcorder to my VCR and tried to record on my camcorder, but that did not work either. I did not check in the manual if I had it connected right, or the settings right with this process. I'll try again and check with the manual. Also, I'm going to get iMovie 6 sometime this week, maybe that might make a difference?

I am comparing Final Cut Express vs. Premiere Pro CS4 trial, and I cannot get Premiere to control and import from my DV Cam, which is a Canon Elura 100. Has anybody been able to use this camera? My system is a MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard.

If the camera does not have firewire out, you are out of luck.
Firewire is required to capture.

Problem workflow mxf canon xf 100

Hi,
I have shot a documentary with a canon xf 100. I could import the different mxf clips with the browser in Ppro CS5.5.2 but I cannot find a solution to work properly. I need to merge all the different mxf clips from each canon CONTENTS folder into one big clip, like if I had one big clip for each tape/card. For that, I created a new sequence from the different mxf clips and then I nested this sequence to get one unique file that looks like a unique clip. OK, but then, when I try to work from that nested sequence and to use it on my timeline, I cannot work with two mono tracks any more (I have set my project as mono, beacause I used two mono microphones). Everything I import from a nested sequence to the timeline becomes one stereo file.
Then I tried something else. Inside Ppro, I merged ("merge clips") my nested sequence with another sound track, wich is in fact the full sound track I exported in a wav format from
the same nested sequence. At first, everything seems to be OK : I can work on my timeline with that merged clip, and I get two mono files. ...BUT as soon as I close and reopen Premiere cs5.5, one of my two mono files becomes empty. I can see the two mono audio file on the timeline but one of them has no sound at all!

Thank you Stephen, but I personally prefer to edit with one big file per card (or per tape) I can scrub easily, instead of having hundreds of small files with numbers (like mxf files), especially when I have hundreds of hours of footage. To help me, I can always make a detailed shot list.
So I tried to do like this ; sorry for my English and if I repeat certain points, but I hope it could help other people :
on the timeline, I imported all the mxf clips coming from one card,
then I calculated a new wav stereo file from all the files,
then I made a nested sequence with all the mxf clips, but without the original sound tracks (only video, not audio),
then I merged that nested video sequence with the new wav stereo file I have calculated ("merge clips"),
then I could import that new merged clip in the source monitor and edit on the timeline with two mono tracks.
But I met two new problems for a good editing:
First of all, as I already described, after I closed and reopened premiere pro, one of my two mono tracks on the timeline became empty: you can see the segments on the timeline but there is no more sounds inside. It is clearly a bug of ppro. I’ve read different posts with audio problems on mxf files imported into ppro.
So what I did is that instead of calculating a new stereo wav file from my original sequence, I calculated two mono files, one for each channel. Then I imported those files into ppro and and I merged it with my video only nested sequence. I, then, could edit properly with two mono tracks even if I closed and reopened ppro.
But the problem is that now, if, for any reason, I become out of sync on the timeline between video and audio segments, there is no more red indications to tell me the number of frames out of sync. And of course, you cannot use the functions of ppro to re-synchronize ("move into sync, slip into sync"). And this is a huge problem (strangely, a nested sequence keeps that function but it has only one audio track).
I sometimes wonder how the programs are developed. Mxf files is supposed to be a step ahead, but it becomes in the real editing, at least with ppro, two steps backward. From what I’ve read on the net, many people like me lost a lot of time trying to find a solution for editing mxf with ppro, and even if I decide to work with two mono tracks as I described, which is long and painful with hundreds of hours, how can I be sure I won’t meet another audio issue later on.
It is clear that the developers of ppro are not editors or directors. All I want to do with my mxf files is the basic of the editing. I want a car I can drive properly, not a car with air conditioned, that has no brakes.
So if they hear me : could you please update ppro so that we could edit properly with mxf files? It means :
1/ inside ppro, merge all the clips from the same card into one clip, that we can edit with two mono tracks if we decide
2/ keep the out of sync function for each audio channel with that merged clip.
Of course, if there is a workaround, I would be happy to know it.

Workflow with a Canon XF 100

Hey, I recently got a Canon XF 100 and Ive been import the footage by copying the .mxf files from the card to my hard drive then imoprt it to PP. Just wondering if any one has a better workflow?

I'm considering an XF100. What kind of interface do you all recommend to get the files or folders from the card to the workstation hard drive? I think I read about card readers and UBS cables, but no HDMI or FireWire or capture direct to OnLocation.
And is it fully compatible with PP, AE CS4?

Canon Elura 100 campatability with mac

My handycam is dying and need a new camera for home movies - not doing anything really technical, but editing in iMovie. So far, even though it is a few years old, I'm finding great reviews for the Canon Elura 100 using a miniDV format to decrease compression. It is not on the list provided my mac and wondering if anyone knows if it is compatible before I buy. Looking to buy online so I can't try it before I buy it. It does have a Firewire for export.

I just bought the Canon Elura 100 (in February 09, got it for about 279, its last years model so I got it on close out). It works just great with my Mac, plug and play it was immediately recognized for import into imovie, well at least that was on system 10.4 and using my old version of imovie from 2006. I have yet to try it with imovie 09 which I did just recently installed last Friday, along with a system upgrade to Leopard, I have yet to see if the camera will still work as smooth with imovie 09. I am trying to adjust to learning how to use imovie 09 and having a great bit of frustration. Anyway over all Elura 100 is great little camera.

Canon HFS10 (.mts files) into FCP7

Hello,
I have transferred my .mts files from my Canon HFS10 camera onto a hard drive (I was travelling and the camera just got too full) and now want to edit these in FCP7. Unfortunately, FCP7 does not like this one bit.
Does anyone know how I can get these files imported into FCP7? Or do I have to transfer them back to the camera and start again with them?

When you transfer the files from your camera you need to copy the file structure and it needs to remain exactly like the structure from your cameras hard drive or card. If copy from the avchd folder on down you should be able to navigate to this folder and use log and transfer.

100% Sampling Procedure is not functioning for Prod. Order - Insp.Type:03

For the operation 10, Two MIC are assigned.
For Each MIC the 100% SAMPLING PROCEDURE IS ASSIGNED
Production Order is created with Qty. : 80.
System generates the Inspection Lot.
The result recording screen the u201CINSPECT FIELD  SOLLSTPUMF IS 1 ONLY.
It must be 80.
I am able to record only one entry.
As 100 % SAMPLING PROCEDURE IS ASSIGNED TO THE MIC,
THE LOT SIZE OF THE PRODUCTION ORDER MUST BE THE SAME OF SAMPLING SIZE.
For the manual Inspection type, I just assigned the sampling procedure to the MIC in Inspection Plan.

 It is working fine for manual Insp. Type  89.

Hence I need the Inspection lot as soon as Production Order is released.
In Material Master QM View, Inspection Type 03.
I have deactivated the 100% Inspection Check Box.

Although the Article, supplier and plant are exactly the same. Where can I give in the default value for import procedure for each PO-type?

I have a problem connecting a canon Pro-100 injet printer to my iMac oS Mavericks.

I have purchased a Canon Pro-100 inkjet printer which I am trying to connect to my printer. The software on the disc was not compatible with OS Mavericks so Canon sent me the updated software. Still won't work. I get an air message which I have sent to Canon. They say it is an Apple problem which has occurred a lot recently. Aplle online chat support could not help. Has anyone else had this problem. I've got an expensive printer I can't use.

I know I have to give up on the printer and scanner- but I am going to try to find something to keep my tablet going for awhile.
Are you actually reading the responses that people are giving you?
1. Your printer will work with Gutenprint support, possibly will work with 10.9 drivers.
2. Epson has a scanner Yosemite driver for your scanner.
3. And Wacom has a driver for your tablet.
You have no reason to be that miserable, all things considered.

In case of Import PO, Excise Duties don't come from Tax Procedure, These come from MM Pricing. Here you have to use a Zero % Tax Code.
First of all create following condition types in M/06, as suggested below method;
JCDB IN:Basic Custom Duty
JCV1 IN : CVD
JECV IN : Ed Cess on CVD
J1CV IN : H&SECess on CVD
JEDB IN : Ed Cess on BCD
JSDB IN : H&SECess on BCD
JADC Addnl Duty of Custom
JCV1, JECV, J1CV and JADC will go to Excise MODVAT Accounts and JCDB, JEDB and JSDB will get loaded on inventory.
In M/06, for all above conditions, keep following controls;
Cond. class A (Discount or surcharge) Plus/minus A (Positive)
Calculat.type A (Percentage)
Cond.category B (Delivery costs)
Activate "Currency Conversion" and "Accrual"
Vendor in GR 2 (Entry always possible)
Then assign the above condition types in Imort Pricing in M/08
Also check following;
