Canon hfs20 1080 50i vs 25PF Final Cut Pro X Project settings

I apologise in advance if this is a newbie frustrating question....
But I have been searching and reading....and reading....and just cant seem to work it out.
I have a Canon hfs 20 legria (PAL version) camera.
I have purchased Final Cut Pro X.
The camera highest quality settings are 1080 50i or 1080 25pf.
Now, I think I understand the difference between interlaced and progressive (did some reading on the net).
What confuses me, is when I import the footage from the camera...into final cut pro X
I shot some footage at 1080 50i.   ( it is intended to be used as a music video, eventually)
When I imported the footage into FCPX i let it set the project properties, taking it from the footage shot.
Expecting the project would set itself, to 1080i 50i.
I check the project properties, and they say its 1920 X 1080i 25i ( now from my reading, i assumed if it was gonna set 25 anything, it would have been 25p)
I then copied the project, and manually set its settings, to 1920 X 1080p 25p
When I play either project, and look at them in the viewer, I cant see a difference. (Now that is probably attributed to the fact that I am a newbie and dont know what I am looking for in the first place)
Now, also during my searching, I came across a plethora of people, selling coversion software, for the canon hfs20 to get it into FCP. Now I cant tell if this was prior to FCPX , and now FCPX handles my cameras footage. To be honest, from what I had read, I kinda didnt expect my footage to import, and was pleasantly surprised when it did.
So, on to my questions, you say...8)
My cameras highest quality settings, are 1080 50i or 1080 25p
I wish to get the best footage I can, and have it set so it works well with FCP X.
I dont shoot, sports, hummingbirds etc...its mainly me, sitting playing the guitar, long walks on the beach, looking longingly into the distance...8)
Which settings would work best, and what should my project be set at , in FCPX to deal with those settings.
Final delivery, will be, internet, Beta tape for TV broadcast, possibly DVD but that is a distant 3rd.
Look, I know this is probably a frustrating question, but I would really love some help. Audio, i get, Video makes my head spin..8)
thanks in advance
Wiz

Hi Tom
and thank you very much for your reply.
Okay, I will shoot in 25FP from now on...8).
I also made the change to the viewer settings, though I cant find anything in the online help manual about what it is or what it does...
thanks mate
cheers

  • Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro Now Available...

There's been so much talk about the 5D, 7D, 550D on this board that I'm going to point to the EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro. This is supposed to speed to transcode of Canon Camera H.264 to FCP-friendly formats and let you add more metadata along the way.
    Enjoy!
Canon webpage. Under Drivers & Downloads. Once you select your OS, "Mac OS X", the download should appear near the top of the "Software" list.
    Note: (from Quickstart Guide)
This plug-in software allows you to convert MOV movies shot with an EOS Digital camera into ProRes files at high speed in the (Log & Transfer) window of Apple's Final Cut Pro.
FWIW: The quick start guide says cameras involved are 7D, 5D, 1D, no mention of 550D. Sort of odd.

For users in North America to make the Canon EOS REBEL T2i work (550D for Europe):
    1. Install the new Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...nloadDetailAct)
    2. Go to Library/Application Support/ProApps/MIO/RAD/Plugins/CanonE1.RADPLug/Contents/Resources/
    2. Open up cameras.plist
    3. After the 7D info add the following lines of code (keeping to the coding structure):
    <key>T2i</key>
    <array>
    <string>Canon EOS REBEL T2i</string>
    </array>
    4. Save the text file. Close it. Everything should work now.
    Cheerz.

  • How to Import AVCHD 1080/60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7?

How do I import AVCHD 1080 / 60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7? And if there is no direct way [I certainly haven't found one, but I'm no expert], what additional software would be used? I want to import the files from a Panasonic HDC-HS700 onto an Intel Mac laptop [Mac OSX 10.5.8]? Obviously I don't want to compress & compromise my footage.
I’m sure a simple, straightforward series of steps would help many people with this issue.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response!
I'm guessing you've found ClipWrap2 to be better than competing products [such as AVCHD Converter for Mac, Toast Titanium, or Voltaic].
On to the next steps. Using Clipwrap2, would I leave the checkbox "Convert Audio to LPCM" selected or deselected [and what the heck is LPCM?]. In the pulldown menu would I choose "Rewrap (Don't alter video samples)" or do I save a step by choosing "Apple ProRes 422"?
And finally, am I gaining anything by shooting 1080/60p on this Panasonic HD Camera other than a headache? [Some have suggested this is not a True 60p.]

  • Problems with Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro

After about two weeks of using the Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro, I've found some clips are cut short when they are transcoded to Prores and appear in the browser. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, just started using this and noticed pretty soon afterwards. Seems to happen when I start clicking around or doing anything that uses the processor more than just surfing the web, but that's just anecdotal. I immediately stopped and started using MPEG Streamclip, but I really want the timecode.
Most recently, I had Log and Transfer open, transcoding some 7D footage, and a few of the clips didn't come in—they were left with the red stop-sign symbol/exclamation point. When I clicked to "retry," it stopped importing the current clip and started on the clip I retried. I clicked "retry" on another unimported clip, and again, the clip import stopped and the new clip began processing. I let it go through and, after the checking the footage, I discovered it had been incorrectly named the first clip's filename! Needless to say, I hand-checked every file to make sure it was the right duration (a few weren't), deleted the files from the Capture Scratch folder, and reimported—making sure I didn't touch the computer.
I hope they fix this bug, whatever it is.
BTW, I've experienced it on two separate Mac Pros.

  • Export Final Cut Pro 7 project to open in FCP 6?

Is there any way to open a final cut pro 7 project in final cut 6?
We have a bunch of older Macs that won't run FCP7, but we use for training but our hope was to upgrade the newer machines to the new Final Cut Studio, but it would be great if we could create something on the newer machines, that we could transfer to the older ones.
We tried XML export, but it didn't look like it included filters and such, so we are wondering if there is any other way?

    Nope. no other way.

  • When exporting to a DVD from Final Cut Pro X, what settings are there to make sure you making the highest quality DVD possible?

When exporting to a DVD from Final Cut Pro X, what settings are there to make sure you making the highest quality DVD possible?

There have been a lot of recent reports of difficulties sharing to DVD, but haven't been hearing about unreadable disks. Posibly there was an encoding error. Or it could have been bad media (blank disk).
Does it play in your Mac?
What brand of disks are you using?

  • How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library?

How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library? I can't double click on folder, when I right click it just gives options to erase. Can someone help?

I think you may have misunderstood - the question is regarding renaming a project "folder", not a project name.
Still, the accepted answer here makes no sense to me at all - it's about renaming an event. So we're all confused ;-)
BTW as of 10.0.5, I still cannot rename a project folder while background tasks are running - no clue is given that this is what's going on, second-clicking on the folder just (frustratingly) does nothing. When background tasks finish, it works again.

  • I am not able to share final cut pro x project to iTunes.  it continues to say waiting.

I have not been successful in sharing a final cut Pro X project to itunes.  It says waiting.   I can cancel it, of which I have canceled about ten submissions now, but each time it says waiting.  What am I doing wrong here?

I am not running a compressor.   I am running the 30 trial version of Final Cut Pro X.  I have created and finished a project.
I am running a brand new iMac with the latest OS version.    First I a highlight the project to share.  I assume just by clicking on it.   click share - apple devices - then i select for which machine, (imac) i want it to render it for-select add to itunes- and click share.
Then it opens up the share monitor shows the project in question and says waiting.  I can pause it, cancel it but I can not get it past waiting.  the time registry under the info selection says 0.00 minutes but still waiting..
I am selecting the project correctly?   I have made only one project.

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • I need to remove a rig/wires from my final cut pro 7 project.  Can Apple Motion 4 remove wires/rig?  Are there any rig removal plugins for final cut pro?   Thanks!

I need to remove a rig/wires from my final cut pro 7 project.  Can Apple Motion 4 remove them?  If not can anyone recomment any plugins for Final Cut Pro or Motion that can remove them.  Thanks!!

In Motion 5 there is a plugin from CoreMelt called "SliceX" that does this.  But I don't know anything in Motion 4 that will do it.  You may get more help posting in the appropriate "Final Cut Studio" section of this forum.

  • Is the Canon Legria HF M56 compatible with Final Cut Pro X

I am new to Mac and new to Final Cut Pro X. I am looking to buy a new HD Video Camcorder to use with my new computer/software and wondered whether or not the Canon Legria HF M56 is compatible with Final Cut Pro X.
If it is, do you have to import the footage directly from the Camcorder, or can you first save the files to the Mac and import them that way?
I currently use a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR10 which produces AVCHD .mts files. I have these saved on my Mac after transferring them over from my PC but Final Cut Pro X cannot import them. Very frustrating for a professional app to be unable to import these files. Even Cyberlink Power Director can use these files.
    Thanks for your help

It's not on the tested list but it may well work.

Why don't you download the trial and try it?

  • Final Cut Pro X project either didn't save or disappeared.

I opened final cut pro x and a project I had been working on was basically half gone. It was as if the project saved a couple days in, and then the rest of the work disappeared. I can't even find the project in any folder. It shows up in Final Cut Pro x, but nowhere else. I searched online to find an answer, but the only thing I could find was help for missing footage linking. There are no missing project files, just half of the main project missing. Any advice is much appreciated.

Do a Finder and/or a Spotlight search on fcpproject. See what comes up.
Also, in the Finder, look within the Final Cut Projects folder to find that specific project folder. Within that there should be a folder named Backups with a file named with a timestamp.
Post back and let us know what you find out.

  • Can I use my Final Cut Pro 6 project in FCP X?

Hi, I've been editing a short factual on Final Cut Pro 6 as this is the version that I learned FC on, the edit is nearly done and all that's left is to add graphics such as lower thirds and titles.
I've been told that FCP X has a much better set of templates for this so was hoping that I could use my FCP 6 project in FCP X. Can I do this? If I can't directly use the project is there some kind of work-around that I could use?

  • My Final Cut Pro X project went missing

I recently downloaded the trial version of Final Cut Pro X to my Macbook Pro and spent eight hours editing a video yesterday in one continuous session.
When I tried to share it to my desktop no files ever showed up. I tried a bunch of different formats and it all went fine until I pressed OK - nothing ever came out. So then I quit and restarted my computer, and now the whole project is gone. Like it never existed.
It may be that it was exporting in the background (I just discovered that on this forum) but in the eight hours it never saved once??
Is there any way I can recover my project? I need to submit it tomorrow morning. I'm nervous that I'll pull an all nighter to redo the video and it won't share again. Is it worth me purchasing the full version?
Any advice in the next few hours would be appreciated!!

You are correct. However, I don't need luck...there's no such thing.
I did find, by the grace of the universe, that by monitoring increasing memory pressure caused by FCPX over time, archiving older projects, frequently backing up projects (from within the library .fcpbundle) quitting FCPX every so often, and deleting prefs before relaunching, FCPX runs smoothly, no longer crashes my system, and projects no longer disappear.
    Good "luck" to you!
