Canon hv30 won't connect to imovie 08

first time i connected to imovie it connected to my hv30 but the video quality was crazy bad and broken in the pixels.
i then changed the settings from pal to ntsc as my camera is (could that be the reason for the bad quality?)
since i changed i have not been able to connect to imovie it only gives me the insight camera.
i am using imovie 08 on a imac intel 2.8 4gb
any suggestions?

it says:
[Google Cloud Print] This function is available only when IPv4 is selected for TCP/IP settings on Other settings from LAN settings. For instructions about displaying Other settings on the operation panel, refer to the on-screen manual (user's guide) that comes with the printer.
To solve my problem, I toggled through the printer's touch sensitive display menu: LAN Settings--->Other settings--->TCP/IP settings--->IPv4 and selected Automatic to set up. Thereafter, printer could connect to internet.

  • Canon HV30 1080i/30 import to imovie HD6 what do I select for " format"

Hello, i use the canon HV30. I connect to the computer via firewire, open imovie HD 6 and then 1. name new project, 2. save on desktop. 3. format--now in the drop down menu there are several choices. I chose 1080i for the format then I hit " import" when the single miniDV tape finished it took up 60gb of HD space.
One tape should not be 60gb.
    what am i doing wrong?
HOw do you import a DVtape that was recorded at 1080i/30p?
    please, please advise

I have been learning a bit about Codecs and Apple has published a good explanation of why AIC is so data heavy. It does not temporally compress the video so that each frame is decoded separately and this creates a situation where the data size is 3 to 4 times as large as HDV. For this reason, it would make sense that the video is ~60GB per hour in AIC for high definition video.

  • Sony DCR-HC62 camcorder won't connect to iMovie with express card adapter

I got a Sony HC62 Mini DV video camera but it will not connect to iMovie. Since I don't have a firewire 6 pin on my Mac (only a 9 pin) i got an express card adapter. So I am using 4 pin (camera) to 6 pin (Express card) firewire. I have no other devices to test the express card but i tested the firewire and the video camera that I got and it works fine with a Windows XP computer. I have also talked with sony and I ended up with either there is something wrong with the express card or the iMovie software.

Well there is nothing there because the express card is listed under a PCI card. The express card is recognized when inserted but that is it will not notice the camera attached to the express card. since i couldn't test the card i went and got the card replaced, but still with no luck.
Would returning the express card and buying a firewire 4 pin to 9 pin be worth it? (given that i can get one since i can only find one company that makes them and they are a wholesales only) This way i can connect it directly to my mac's firewire 9 pin port.

  • Sony HDRXR150 won't connect to iMovie 8 PLEASE  HELP

I'm about to throw in the towel and forget camcorders that will connect to my Intel macbk Pro ('08) iMovie. Been researching this for 3 weeks and was told directly by Apple tech that any using formats .mpeg,.hdv or .dv would connect immediately to iMovie upon connecting camcorder and from there I could make a playable DVD.
So I finally settled on the Sony HDRXR150 and brought it home today > took a few minutes of video ( on the "HDFH" setting > connected with the USB cable. (discovered No firewire connection on this camcorder - although I seemed to read one other poster said he connected with the firewire cable. I had read that to connect with iMovie you needed firewire connection) > chose the "internal" connection ( NO "HD" connection icon appeared) > the white mounting icon appeared on my desktop. That is as far as I could do anything.
PLEASE PLEASE help me. I like the camcorder but would be willing to get a different one (can take this back within 14 days) IF this one cannot be directly connected to iMovie.
now the real questions: 1) Of you who have this camcorder and can connect to iMovie 8,9, or the current one HOW did you do it ?????? 2) anyone else can help me determine whether I should return it and if so WHAT should I get for under $800 , is a hard drive, takes a decent video and connects directly to iMovie .
I've read so many comments in so many forums that I am totally confused and discouraged by the differing opinions
    HELP PLEASE
    thanks
    Sue

i went to that link and while it says compatible, when clicking the followup link, this camera is not listed:
" iMovie ’08, '09, and '11 and Sony HDR-CX11, HDRCX12, HDR-SR1 and HDR-SR7 cameras should work with AVCHD (high-definition) and MPEG-2 standard definition (SD) content when you follow these guidelines.
    Products Affected
    iMovie '08 (7.x), iMovie '11, iMovie '09
If the Sony HDR-CX11, HDRCX12, HDR-SR1, HDR-SR7 and HDR-SR12 cameras contain both HD (AVCHD) and SD (MPEG-2) content, iMovie ’08, '09, and '11 can import the SD (MPEG-2) content. However, to import the HD (AVCHD) content to an Intel-based Mac, you must first erase the SD (MPEG-2) content on the camera."
how wold I know IF the camera contains both HD and SD (the latter that has to be erased first ? It's an HD amera so why would it have SD content also ?

  • My camera won't connect to iMovie

When I click on 'import from camera'. it says that no camera is connected. But my camera is connected. I also checked to see, and my camera is compatible with iMovie. I feel like I have tried everything and I don't know what the problem is. I have restarted the computer and the camera is on and charged when I connect it, I have also tried it when it was off. But iMovie still says that 'no camera is connected'. It is a Canon Vixia HFR30 and once again I did check to see if it works with iMovie and it does.

I assume you are on FCP 6.0.2.
Also, you have downloaded and installed the p2 drivers from Panasonic, and then put the HVX200 in the MCR mode until the card appeared?
Or are you trying to capture from the tape side?
We do need details because we can't see what you are doing from here.

  • Canon fs20 won't connect

I just got a canon fs20 and I can't get any movies to work on iphoto or imovie or the disk included with the camera. A canon icon appears when the usb is connected, but nothing on there seems to work. Thanks for any insight you might have. Geoff

Had same issue but was able to address doing this ...
Make sure the camera is unplugged and quit all applications.
Your home folder > Library > Cache folder ... drag to the trash.
Your home folder > Preferences ... drag the following files to the trash: com.apple.imovie8.plist
Now plug in the Canon camcorder and put it in playback mode (the button on the screen with the movie camera icon and a play icon and two arrows between them). In a few seconds the Mac and camcorder will recognize each other. Use the camcorder joystick to select PC.
Now launch iMovie ... wait for it to settle (about 15 seconds). Click on the camera import icon or File > Import From Camera. The software will guide you from there.

  • Cameras won't connect to iMovie

I have iMovieHD installed on several eMacs and iBooks. I also have several Canon cameras ranging from the ZR200 to the ZR800. All cameras were working fine, but in the last few weeks the number of cameras that will be recognized by the computer has dwindled down to zero. This means that my students cannot finish projects they are working on. Have tried different cables, connecting to several different computers, My panasonic AG-DVC30 stopped working for imports also. I am stumped and need answers. I have tried everything i have seen on the forum. Please help someone!
    Craig

    Hi Craige
PLEASE ! Cheque ALL YOUR MACs and all FireWire Connections SO THAT NOT one Cable is turned 180 deg wrong.
IF SO - it blows the A/D chip in all Cameras connected to this Cable. Symptom:
    • Camera works - recording via optics
    • Camera playback to TV
    • Camera - not recogniced by FireWire (Mac, iMovie or FCE/P)
Most of all other functions works but not just this one.
Please cheque - so if this is the couse - no more devices will be harmed and in need of Service Shop.
    Expencive repair.
To turn the FW 6-pin connector wrong way is possibly esp if it is on the back of the Mac.
I've done it: two Cameras killed, one video bridge and one FW hard disk. Painfull experience.
IF Your Cameras works on another Mac then they are OK and we can cont. to narrow down the trouble.
Another very common origin is - faulthy FW-Cable - much more common than I would guess.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Canon HV30/40 and IM v 11

So will my dv tape Canon HV30 or 40 connect to this latest version? It's not on the Apple list. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Presume I can still use it with HD 6 when both are on the same unit.
(Not yet installed Snow Leopard or iLife 11 yet)

Right on the front of the compatibility page it says:
iMovie ’11 works with most Mini DV tape-based camcorders using DV and HDV formats, which use a FireWire cable (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) to transfer video.
They're just not bothering to test tape-based cameras anymore, but they all should work now if they're in one of those formats. Certainly all the major brands like Canon should work.

  • Connecting a Canon HV30 camcorder vai a thunderbolt port to a new imac

    Hi all
I was using imovie 11 with my old imac (purchased Summer 2008) using the firewire connection to transfer DV/HDV video from my Canon HV30 camcorder (tape). I just bought a new 27 inch imac with the thunderbolt ports and now I am stuck as there is no firewire
The camcorder had  a 4 pin firewire output so I have tried the following
Used the original camcorder cable (Firewire 400), converted to firewire 800 with an adapter and then used the Apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter
Used a cable that converted the 4 pin firewire to firewire 800 and then used the Apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter.
In each case, imovie is not seeing the camcorder.
I know that my camcorder is not listed as being supported by imovie but has worked fawlessly on my old machine running the same software and operation system (Mountain Lion)
    Any ideas - thanks
    Kevin

    Hi epjustin,
What I said in the previous post (Oct 9 2013) works for me but I can try to explain in more detail if that helps.
Firstly. remove the battery or the ac power connection from the camcorder. - VERY IMPORTANT
Turn on the Imac and login
Attach a thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter to the IMac thunderbolt port - you can get this from the Apple Store
Now attach a firewire 800 to firewire 400 adapter to the the end of the previous adapter. You should now have the appropriate firewire 400 connection so that you can attach the original firewire cable that came with the camcorder.
Now connect the camcorder cable to complete the connection between the camcorder and the computer
Now connect the power supply or the battery to the camcorder and turn on the camcorder. Set the camcorder up so that it exports through the cable as normal
You should now be able to detect the camcorder in imovie. If you can't see the camcorder in imovie, go into system report from about this mac and you should see an entry in the thunderbolt section relating to the connected camera.
As I mentioned above, turn on and disconnect the power from the camcorder before disconnecting the camcorder from the Imac or turning off the Imac
If you can't get things to work, you may want to try connecting the camcorder to another computer as there is a chance that the board is fried if it doesn't work
Please let me know if you need any further help

  • Imovie and canon hv30 compatibility

is the canon vixia hv 30 compatible with the iMac OS X 10.5.4 and OS X 10.5.3? It looks like you connect with a USB port instead of Firewire and I thought you had to use firewire to connect to iMovie.

    Hi
Canon HV30 is compatible with iMovie 08. You connect with a 6pin-4pin firewire cable. The USB cable is for transferring still images from the camera. Hope this helps.

  • Connecting Canon HV30 to New Macbook pro with firewire 800

I just received new Macbook pro 2.8 that only has 9 pin firewire 800 connectivity. My previous IMac accepted my Canon HV30 HD video through 4-6 pin firewire 400 with ease, the new laptop will receive the video through 4-9 pin cable but the video color is severely distorted and unusable. Is there a problem with firewire 400 to 800 transfer compatibility?

Yeah, FW400 is compatible with FW800. Only need to find the conversion cable with the correct connectors.Try getting that first and connecting the two, to see if the Mac recognizes it and enables capture. Else visit the camera maker's site to check if they are providing Mac-specific software.
