Canon i9900 via Firewire in the Twilight Zone

My Mac cannot find my Canon i9900, connected via Firewire. It worked fine before I upgraded. After the upgrade, all of the printers were no longer available. I only have this one printer physically available to me at the moment to reconnect, and only a Firewire cable so I can't see if it works via USB.
I have:
--checked to see if the driver is installed. It appears to be.
--checked to see if the System Profiler shows the Firewire connection to the printer, and it does.
--reset my printer system.
I tried to go to the Canon web site to download and reinstall the driver, but their website is having issues right now and I can't get to the download page. Their tech support, is of course, closed. But I think the driver for this printer is supposed to be included.
Any ideas?

By reading through the lines on some threads WAAAY down below (pages 30 - 35) I figured this out.
I needed to reinstall the Canon 10.4 driver so that the Canon Firewire driver would be reinstalled. As soon as I did this, I saw the Canon Firewire option show up, and there was my printer!
Since the Canon Americas web site wasn't working for me, I downloaded and installed the driver for the i9150 from the Oceania site. That did the trick.

  • My new MacBook Pro and Imac can't recognize my digital video camera (Canon GL2) via FireWire 800 9 pin to 4 pin cable.

My new MacBook Pro and Imac can't recognize my digital video cameras (Canon GL2 or Sony) via FireWire 800 9 pin to 4 pin cable. I've tried two different cables.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Is your DV camera plugged in to AC power (not batteries only)? When you step down from 9 pins to 4 pins, you lose the "power" pins.

  • Restoring factory settings via Firewire when the dock only comes with USB2?

I put this out under another similar thread, but it isn't getting noticed there. So I'll try it as a seperate thread.
When I originally got my Ipod I set it up to work using Windows as my Imac at that time was too slow. Since then I have upgraded to a Mac Mini. I have still been using and loading music to my Ipod using the original set up (Windows)on my Mini, with no problems. But, now I just downloaded some tunes from Itunes and when I go to put them in the Ipod I get a message saying some won't be loaded because your software is too old...update software (and "some" and "none" were synoymous). To do that I'd have to restore to factory settings..which is fine, I'll lose some of what I have in the Ipod, but I can reload it again. The problem is...when I try to Restore..it says "connect Ipod to firewire" (something like that). But this Ipod came with a dock which uses USB (probably USB2 actually). What do I do now?
    Any ideas? Thx.

Thanks, it was helpful documentation to let me know that my 20 G, touch wheel Ipod WITH dock connector... this from the documentation link you presented (thx again..it was useful)... "All iPod (touch wheel) models have a FireWire port cover. Scroll wheel models don't, and dock connector models don't have a FireWire port."
It always useful to me to know that I knew what I wasn't seeing.LOL So, if mine doesn't come with a firewire connector how am I supposed to connect it via firewire?
    Still wondering...

  • FME freezes when connecting Canon HV20 via firewire

Hoping someone can help me out. I'm using a Canon HV20 camera
as a live video stream via FME and every time I try FME will freeze
and my laptop will freeze and I have to restart. My camera settings
are DV standard and it should work.
The necessary drivers for the Canon HV20 are installed and
I'm using a firewire card in my PC laptop that to connect the
camera feed. Restarting several times still results in the same
    problems.
Is there something I should modify/check on my system to
    ensure it's working correctly?

    Some more troubleshooting tips.

  • I think my hard drive crashed. How can I get data off via firewire before the HD completely goes? I was stuck on the BSoD and now I can't even use the install disk. Utility Disk said HD was okay. Please HELP ME

    Safe mode did nothing.
Safe mode with verbose seemed to make it worse.
Before continuously trying new things, I could use the install disk to check the disk utility and clear
the hard drive from there but now the screen won't even load to that.
I really need the data on the hard drive especially if it can't be salvaged.
    How can i transfer files?
Am I better off physically taking my HD out or will it damage itself without
    leaving the system.
    I tried command r
    resetting the pram
    safe mode
    jumping out a window
    nothing has helped.
I am stuck on the blue screen of death and it flickers.

No. In order to use FireWire Target Disk Mode you need to use a FireWire equipped Mac. Other than that the only other way I can think of to even attempt to access you files would be to remove your hard drive and install it in a case and connect it to another computer.

  • Why won't my computer recognize my Canon XHA1s via firewire anymore?

My Windows 7 HP computer will not recognize my camera (XHA1s) anymore.  I used it two weeks ago to record and transfer the video, and everything went just fine.  I went to use the same exact setup two days ago and the computer will not recognize the camera.  I tried the firewire cable I have been using and I even went out and bought a new one to see if a new cable would solve it, but neither worked.  I am at a loss cannot figure out what happened/went wrong.  Any help is appreciated.

Do you have any other firewire devices you could connect to the computer to test the port?  When you have the camera connected does anything show up in Device Manager?  You could try uninstalling the driver for the port and then reinstalling it to see if that helps.

  • IMovie 08 import problem from Canon ZR500 via Firewire DV cable

I have the device hooked up. The import window can control the camcorder (play, stop, rew, etc.). But, when I do PLAY, no image displays on the iMovie import screen. So, it is not importing anything. Why is this? Connectivity is good, but no image transfer. I can see the image on the screen of the camcorder, but not on my iMac. What's up? Any ideas?

    Hi Bruce
There can be so many things to this: Most common to omitt.
    • Camera defective - test on another Mac (when the A/D-chip is blown it behaves exactly as You describe)
    • FireWire Cable faulthy - most common origin to this (can't figure why there are so many bad cables out there)
    • Test Your Mac with another Camera - eventually re-set the FW-port (on big Macs by disconnecting
    mains for 10 - 30 minutes on PBs I don't know)
I've got an old killingly long list if this doesn't help.

  • Logic in the Twilight Zone

This afternoon I started everything up, to return to a track: the last one of a project. First off, I was writing an email, while Logic launched the song, the song opens and I start playing it, still writing the email. Suddenly, Logic quits: oh, well, I thought; sent the email and relaunched. This time when getting to the stage of loading an East West Platinum Pro patch, Logic crashes again. This repeatedly happened, same place each time, so I went back to basics and started up a vanilla autoload: fine. Then I tried one of my own templates from the dock, where I keep them: that opened, but immediately disappeared! No "Logic unexpectedly quit", etc. Just poof! vanished. I tried several other custom templates, and they all performed this disappearing act. So, I'm getting really panicky: I have to finish this album before the studio is relocated. I decide to post the problem on this forum: Safari repeatedly crashes.
I check all the usual suspects: no problems anywhere. I then decide to open the vanilla song again and try opening one of my templates from that. It works. I save it, and then try opening it from the dock: it works fine again, and so do all the others, plus the problem song.
What was that all about? I'm running 7.2.2, and until then it had been more or less fine, but that was a bit alarming. Has anyone any ideas, and should I take any other measures? There was also a bit more fan activity when all this was happening.
It felt like the whole thing was on the edge of collapse.

From my PC days, I learned that once you have an application crashing, it can leave the computer in a little bit of a flaky state, so I got into the habit of saving copies of anything important, and restarting.
Generally these days OS's are much better at protecting themselves from application crashes, but sometimes things can go screwy. It sounds like Logic crashed and caused the computer, the audio or MIDI subsystem and anything else Logic uses from the OS to go flaky.
In this case, I would have done a restart to cause any aberrant behaviour to calm down, but it seems like it recovered on its own. (I'd still restart though).
Normally an application will crash cleanly and can simply be restarted, but sometimes...

  • Twilight Zone - Pages

I'm in the Twilight Zone. Can't open Pages docs, prompt says I need an update.
Go to App Store, no Update shown as needed. Try to obtain one via the store without paying $19.95 again and told "not going to happen." Stuck in the wheel going round and round.
    Using 10.10.1
    What's the solution?

Use Microsoft Word. Really. Unlike Pages, it just works. Want facing pages? Word has that feature. Pages doesn't. Want mail merge? Ditto. Want the ability to link text boxes: yep, you can do it in Word, not Pages. How many words in your doc? How many pages, and what page are you on? Glance down to the status bar in Word, there it is. In Pages? There is no status bar! If you view the little bubble with the word count, it actually hovers over part of your text! And on and on and on. I really cannot fathom what Apple was trying to do with its destruction of Pages, but the entire 5.x experience has been, as one early reviewer put it, and "unmitigated disaster."

  • Transferring files from MacBook Pro to new iMac via Firewire

    Hi guys
My MacBook Pro is seriously on its way out and I would like to transfer my music files, work documents, photographs, videos etc. onto my brand new iMac and the best way to do this I would think would be to link the two up via Firewire. The MacBook Pro is no longer accepting my external hard drive and fails during during DVD's, so those options are out.
So I was wondering if someone could advise me on what type of Firewire cable to get. As far as I'm aware I didn't get one with either the MacBook Pro or the new iMac, so I think a purchase is necessary however, I've spotted that there are different kinds with different ends, some which have 6-pin, 8-pin and 9-pin and I have no idea what to get. Could someone advise me on what would be the best item to get for this situation?
My MacBook Pro is one that was the model before the black keyboards came back in, and the iMac is the brand new one at 21".
    Thanks for your help guys.
    Steve.

    Hi
FireWire 800 / FW800 / IEEE 1394b uses a 9-pin connector for both the imac and the macbook pro.
    good luck.

  • I am hoping to connect my Cube to my macbook Pro via firewire

Hi All, I am hoping to connect my G4 Cube to my Macbook Pro via firewire. The cube has Firewire 400 and the macbook Pro had Firewire 800.
Can anyone advise if the item below will be suitable?
I have not got a DVD Drive with the cube so I am hoping to try and boot via firewire mode with the DVD drive in the Macbook Pro.

  • Sudden device removal via Firewire 800

I just purchased a MacBook Pro. I have a LaCie rugged drive that is a clone of my old iBook running Panther. I connected the LaCie via Firewire to the MBP to transfer some files. (Migration Assistant didn't get everything???) The LaCie kept suddenly disconnecting, resulting in a device removal error. I have two different cables; tried them both. It connected to the old iBook last night with no removal error.
    Any ideas??

Here's what LaCie had to say:
Thank you for contacting LaCie Technical Support. As the issue you describe is an intermittent issue, it is difficult to pin point the exact issue and an exact resolution.
Mobile drives are commonly referred to as "Bus Powered" devices. They don't typically require an external power supply, and are powered by the ports on the computer. Ordinarily this is an acceptable amount of power, however, not all machines are capable of running these devices.
Most mobile drives require approximately 4 watts of energy to run. Most computers produce this, so it isn't a problem. There are exceptions, however. The physical symptom of insufficient power is a soft "clicking" sound. OS behavior can vary.
    * On Mac OS X, the mobile drive can appear as an "Unknown Device" in Apple System Profiler (ASP), appear in an unusual way in Disk Utility, refuse to format with error -36, or have no reaction at all
    * On Windows, the drive can appear with a Code 10 error in Device Manager, appear in an unusual way in Disk Management, refuse to format, or have no reaction at all.
All mobile drives have a "USB Power Sharing" cable included in the box. If a power problem is suspected, connect this cable to a second USB port on the computer. This will allow the drive to take more power, and can possibly make the difference in allowing it to work. Also, ensure the drive is not connected to a USB Hub of any kind. Connect all bus-powered devices directly to the computer USB ports.
    Let us know the results.
    Thoughts? Anyone?

  • Can I use 'software update' for another computer hook up via firewire?

My wife has a powerbook that has problems. I had to re-install the original software and back up her files. The problem is I can't get on the internet either hardwire or through airport. It says the password I am giving is incorrect. I have no problem getting on line with my ibook. So my idea is this, Can I hook her powerbook up to my ibook using firewire and then use software update to update her opertaing system. She has 10.2. Thanks

You can manually download the updates and copy them via firewire to the other Mac. Once the updates are on the other Mac, you can run them from there.

  • Displaying fullscreen images from camera via firewire

I have clients that want to be able to see the image I take with my camera instantly after I take it. So I hook my camera to my MacBook Pro via firewire, take the shot at the camera and then I WANT the image to appear full screen or close to full screen size on my laptop. I had one poster on another forum say that Aperture can do this. I can't figure out how. Any ideas?

You can absolutely do this - although depending on your camera it might more likely be via USB. What you're describing is tethered shooting. I do it all the time with my D300 and it works perfectly. You can set yourself up in fullscreen mode and watch your pictures come up within a few seconds of shooting.
If your camera is supported you simply plug it in (via usb or firewire - usually usb), select File>Tether>Start Session and you're ready.
When I'm shooting still life, I like to fire a shot or two, do a few quick adjustments to get the look I'm after and stamp the keepers as I go along and refine the setup. It's a great way to get a real feel for what you're attempting.
There's a list of supported cameras on the Aperture site- I don't have the link handy though.
    Good luck!
