Canon imageRunner 3200 with Intel Mac

Hi,
I got my MacBook Pro in late October. Before that I had a iMac G5 and had it connected via TCP/IP to a Canon ir3200. Worked great.
However, it has never worked on my MBP. Not before or after Leopard. Canon's support for this machine is terrible - they simply send you to their dealer, which, in my case, has absolutely no knowledge of software issues. I have downloaded multiple drivers from the Canon site (none of which are explicitly made for Intel Macs or Leopard OS), and none of them work. I have tried downloading drivers and printing via IP, no luck there, either.
I have even tried leaving my G5 turned on and sharing the printer through it. No luck, I get an error message that after research is a result of the Fiery RIP on the Canon not meshing properly with the Intel chipset. (that is a topic for another day, just telling everyone to keep that option from being suggested).
Does anyone have any ideas, or had any luck working with a similar Canon IR series printer on their Intel or Leopard Mac? I am in desperate need of a resolution...saving files to PDF and sending them to the G5 then printing is a hassle.
Thanks for your time and help.

The Canon Au web site does have the UB for the Canon printer board. This is the PS Printer Driver Installer v1.80. This is the link;
http://www.canon.com.au/products/multifunctionals/multifunctionaldigital_devices/irc3100drivers.aspx
As for the W7250, you will have to wait for an update. Our iPF is working but the W series is older and that is the likely issue with the drivers on Leopard. I would expect there to be a newer driver that will work on Leopard, but my experience with Canon (and this is probably the case with other vendors also) is that the current models get priority while the older models can take some time to get updates. Given that Canon doesn't provide direct service/sales on their wide format I am not sure who you could talk to. Maybe try ringing the Sydney office (02 9805 2000) and ask for the National Marketing manager for wide format printers?

  • Printing to Canon ImageRUNNER 3200 network color printer

    Hi folks,
I'm the lone Mac user working in a corporate Windows environment. I've succesfully been able to use IP addresses to print to various HP printers, but I'm so far unable to print to the aforementioned Canon ImageRUNNER 3200 color laser printer. I downloaded Canon's driver for Mac OS 10.1/10.2/10.3/10.4 and tried adding it to the printer center as an IP printer but it won't print. Then I tried adding it using Canon's IP printer utility (I saw it in the pull down menu from the print center) and that doesn't work either. It seems to see the printer on the network, but just won't print. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was doing some Googling and saw the device Queue Name for ImageRunners is "print." Try entering that in Printer Setup.

  • IMovie plug ins not compatible with Intel Macs

I need a page turn transition for an iMovie 6 project I'm working on. I downloaded one from cfx, but apparently a lot of the plug ins are not compatible with Intel Macs. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

Any GeeThree plug-in that uses flash will no longer work, which include all the WildFX plug-ins. Apple did away with flash support in Quicktime 7.3.1 or newer! Now iMovie is basically unusable without the very cool & professional GeeThree plug-ins. If Apple keeps this up iMovie will probably go the way of the dinosaur. I've talked to Apple about this and they responded "why don't you buy Finalcut Pro". It's what Apple does best, Farm the base.....

  • BT voyager 205 compatible with intel macs?

Anyone in UK know if BT voyager 205 is compatible with intel macs?
Ive just found out my old speedtouch USB330 isnt yet intel mac compatible and need to buy a cheap new one.
    Thanks

    Steve,
Don't worry about it... and a warm welcome to Apple Discussions
Unfortunately, there isn't a way, currently, to remove posts although you do have a 15 minute window to make any modifications.
I suspect the 205 that you received and did not work was either faulty or was not set up properly.
Your recommendation of the 210 is a good one and if they are priced similarly then, as I said, the 210 would be a better investment.

  • Is Canon ip5200 compatible with Intel Tiger or isn't it?

I have a Canon Pixma ip5200 and a (fairly) new Intel iMac with OSX Tiger. I am getting fed up with being unable to access the full range of settings - even such mundane things as print quality - when using certain applications. Photoshop and Acrobat are fine, I can select whaever I want, but apparently everything else is a problem. For example, I'm now using Firefox, I select File > Print, and find half the printing options in the dialogue box are scored out. If I try to select one, I get (for example), "This panel is not compatible with your computer. Contact the printer manufacturer for the latest version of your printer software. QualityMedia380 version 3.8.0, Copyright CANON INC. 2001-2005 All Rights Reserved.
    Link to a screenshot here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/towny/printdialogue.png
What's going on here? I have a new computer and, apparently, the latest driver (the newest version on the Canon website was issued last February). The dialogue box in 'About ip5200' says the driver is v4.4 (161.6), copyright Apple. The dialogue box above says the incompatible bits are copyright Canon. I'm confused.
One further piece to the puzzle - I found that if I set Comic Life to run through Rosetta, all printing options became avaiable. Most of them weren't by default. Sadly I can't choose Rosetta for all my apps (and I'm not sure that's supposed to be a good idea anyway).
Please, someone, save me from this insanity!
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Aside from emailing Canon UK to ask them (which I'm
going to do now) is there anything else I can try to
    make this work better?
I downloaded the driver pack from Canon's UK site and took a look at it. Everything in that pacakge is indeed a Universay Binary, so the driver should run natively on your Intel Mac.
A couple of observations. The screen shot you posted showed "QualityMedia380". That may be clue. In the package I downloaded from Canon, there is a PDE called "QualityMedia416.pde". This might indicate that you have some older stuff installed that is conflicting with the proper operation of your drivers.
Additionally, I see that the Canon drivers that are reported to be installed on Intel Macs is version 4.1.5. Again, this is older that the current drivers.
It might be worth your while to go to /Library/Printers and delete the "Canon" folder and any printer queues you have created for the Canon printer. For good measure, I would recommend you restart your computer. This shouldn't be necessary, but it will ensure a clean start of the printing services. Now reinstall the Canon 4.1.6 drivers that are on the Canon UK site and set up your printer.
If there was some old stuff interfering, this may solve the problem. If the problem persists, at least you can report that you have a clean install of the Canon drivers when you contact them.
    Hope this helps.

  • G4 power brick with Intel mac mini?  is this possible just to test?

A friend gave me an Intel mac mini, 1.60GHz CPU model, but no power supply.
I tried using my G4 mac mini's 85W A1105 power supply on the intel mac mini but nothing happens. I have to unplug the power supply from the wall to get it to power on my G4 mac mini (it apparently doesn't like being plugged into the intel mac mini).
Is it possible to use the G4 2005 power supply with the Intel mac mini if only to just test to see if the intel computer works? I don't want to buy a MA407LL/A 110W intel mac mini power supply only to find that the computer he gave me is broken.
Just wondering if anyone had any tips/ideas how to tell if the Intel mac mini works at all or if I'm just going to have to find someone who has the 110W intel model supply to test it...

The G4 mini power supply is rated at a significantly lower current capacity than the Intel mini requires, thus while some have had marginal success in using an old supply with a newer system, almost any tolerance variation will mean the Intel box won't run with the G4 supply. Not only that, but since the Intel system will load the G4 supply at a level it was not designed to accommodate, you could damage your G4 supply by trying.
If you have an Apple store in your area, I would take the Intel mini to the genius bar there where it can be tested, thus avoiding you having to buy a new supply without knowing if it will work.

  • Using MS UAM with Intel Macs and Tiger (10.4.6+)

I oversee 50 macs in a server environment. The servers are windows server 2003. About 40 of the macs are able to change their network password via the MS UAM. The remaining macs are intel 10.4.6 and above or intel leopard machines.
Goal: The ability of intel mac users running 10.4.6 and above (leo too) to change their network password.
Let me be clear about the problem.
I have no problem connecting to any share / volume on any server. All file sharing is working properly. The only problem I have is that my users cannot change their password that the network requires for authentication. So, when the password expires, they have to go to a windows machine or use a non-Intel Mac. (I am not 100% sure, but I think this is also happening on 10.4.6+ PPC Mac's...correct me if I'm wrong)
Searching for a solution to this problem was unsuccessful. I found that there is no easy way to get the mac os to use the MS UAM instead of the OS X standard UAM's.
I came across a couple of articles from 2006 (two years ago) that stated there was no fix for this problem, but that apple was working on it. I am starting this thread to renew the subject matter. Does anyone know of a fix for this problem yet? Has Apple stated awareness that the problem exists? Has Apple stated that a fix is in the works?
    Please HELP!!!

We have the same problem here --- a high school of mostly Mac clients and only Window Servers.
Hate to think that everyone has to be funneled to an older Mac or a PC in order to do password changes.
I searched <http://www.mactopia.com> about this only to be further 'scared' by what William Smith of Microsoft says in <http://www.officeformac.com/.ee9b2bd>:
-----You should really consider using some third party software. Mac OS X 10.4
-----and higher use AFP 3.2, which has some incompatibilities with AFP 2.2.
-----Microsoft is not planning to update Windows Server with AFP 3.2 but
-----will instead remove File Services for Macintosh altogether after Windows Server 2003.
    -----Look into Group Logic's ExtremeZ-IP http://www.grouplogic.com or
    -----Thursby's Dave or ADmitMac http://www.thursby.com.
    -----Hope this helps!

  • Saving from Office with Intel Macs

We have a problem when saving Office-documents from Intel-machines to public sharepoints on an OS X-server. The clients are using AFP. This is what happens: When browsing the folders on the server, the save dialog will suddenly become non-responsible. This seems to happen when we encounter folders that have files with resourceforks in them (e.g. Quark 4-files). The save-button shifts a little bit and we are unable to browse other folders, push any buttons or anything else in the Office-programs. I've checked the log-files, which do not report anything specific happening at this point, neither in the console nor the system log. The AFP-logs at the server does not report any problems either. The only solution at this point is force-quitting the Office-app. This is repeatable on a number of Intel-macs (but not PPC-based Macs), running Mac OS 10.4.8 and Office 11.3. The server is a DP XServe G4, running OS 10.4.8 Server

Update: On further tests, we see that the problem occurs in all PPC Carbon-based applications, whereas Cocoa-bases applications don't have any problems with this at all. Universal applications don't have problems either. Very strange indeed.

  • Plug in issues with intel macs

Does anyone know how to make Safari work on iMacs with Intel?... sites with Flash, Real, Quicktime and some WM Player don't work... i.e. Disney.go.com keeps asking for Flash even though it is installed...
Apparently the plug ins (even the latest) are not fully compatible with the new Mac Intel chips, so it doesn't recognises it's been installed... don't want to use Safari on Rosetta (it's just too slow)... would like to keep using it as Universal...
Anyone out there wih a solution?... or at least the same problem?... thanks,

  • Experimented: iPS with latest update "conflicts" with Intel Mac mini

    Hello everyone.
Please see my earlier post first as "background story":
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=602573
So I have 2 1Gb iPod Shuffles, one mine, one my sister's. My sister's, the 1st time I plugged into her new Intel Mac mini, it asked for an iPod Update, I clicked "Yes" and proceeded with the update.
After that, I set the iPS with Disk Mode, it appears on the Desktop, when I launched or inside iTunes, once I hit the "Autofill" button, the shuffle unmount and disappear from the desktop immediately, leaving behind a 'warning message' with red exclamation mark, the same when you pull out a thumb drive or turn off an external drive, without unmounting them first.
My own shuffle, I did not apply the latest iPod Updater
When I bring the 2 iPS to my own iMac G5, both with same settings (Disk Mode etc) mounts perfectly on the Desktop, inside iTunes, I can 'Autofill' BOTH shuffles.
When I plug my non-updated shuffle into my sis's Intel Mac mini, it mounts nicely, and when hit with Autofill, it does so nicely without "self-unmounting" at all.
So in the end? I swap my shuffle with my sis, and make sure she never ever update the shuffle, at least for the time being.
So what does this show?? That the iPod shuffle with the latest update may have a conflict of instability with Intel-based Macs??
    Thanks and cheers

    Hi Howwow,
To add a detail: my updated Shuffle works like a charm on my old iBook and not on my new Intel MacBook. So I am convinced it is in the Shuffle/Intel combination. I did try undoing the update on the shuffle (reverting back to 2005-11-17), but that made no difference on my Intel MacBook.

  • Normal + 3 chimes at startup with intel mac mini

I posted this in the mac mini forum, but didn't get a helpful response. So maybe someone can help me here.
I have a 300GB USB drive (formatted as Mac OS extended (journaled)) connected to my intel mac mini with the drive's power on all the time. When I start up the mini after the USB drive has spun down I get the regular startup chime plus 3 lower volume startup chimes. The activity light on the USB drive flashes during the 3 chimes. Then the system starts normally with the USB drive icon on the desktop. I can read and write to the USB hard drive with no problems.
If I shutdown the mini and start it up again but now the USB hard drive has not spun down, I get just the normal single chime. Also, if the USB drive is disconnected, I get the normal single chime. I've tried a different USB port, but still got the same behavior.
I've connected a USB flash drive, but it exhibits normal behavior, that is, just the single startup chime.
Are the subsequent 3 chimes at startup OK and just telling me that there is an external hard drive? Or is there a looming problem? Has anyone else experienced this?
Intel Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Apple BT Mouse & Keyboard

Thanks. But the article says you won't hear the normal startup chime but some number of beeps if there is a problem with 3 beeps meaning no good banks.
I hear the normal startup chime, then 3 of the same chimes but at lower volume. Must be something about the USB hard drive.
When I bought the drive, it was formatted for windows with NTFS. I used disk utility to format is as Mac OS Extended (journaled). I've copied about 100 GB of data to it.

  • Some Fonts Not Compatible with Intel Macs?

    ID CS3.
I have an Intel Mac running Tiger, and opened a ID CS3 file and installed the PostScript fonts that travelled along with it. Or tried to anyway! :)
The fonts would make FAP3 quit when I'd try to import them. And they wouldn't work properly if I installed them manually in ~/Library/Fonts.
    Corrupt fonts I'm a thinking!
So I diagnosed them in Font Doctor which found no problems at all.
Then I tried using the fonts and the ID CS3 file on an older PPC Mac, and everything works perfectly!
Has anyone heard of PostScript fonts not working at all on Intel Macs?

Thanks Nini, but I also went to the extent of installing a new internal HD and installing & fully updating the OS on it. Same problem.
I believe Buko is correct about these fonts. Customer is going to need to buy new ones! :)

  • Kaleidostrobe visualizer with Intel Macs

I use the excellent Kaleidostrobe visualizer with my G4 PowerMac with no trouble. But although I carefully installed it according to directions on my MacBookPro, it does not show up in the visualizer menu. Any suggestions on how to make this work with the Intel Mac?
BTW, I sent an email to the developer with a similar question, but I received no reply.

When trying to connect to a variety of wireless routers using either WPA or WEP its impossible to connect. Yet no problem on any G5 based mac on the same network. The only way of connecting is to set the router with no security. Strange but True....
Just so you know it's possible... ...I have been using my MacBook Pro with my Netgear wireless router, with WEP encryption, for over a month with no problems. I've also connected to a friend's wireless router with WEP encryption and was playing with changing my router's encryption to WAP and connected fine with the MBP. (Had to back off of that when I discovered that my PC wouldn't connect with WAP; I suspect the bargain wireless card I bought for it.)
Depending on the routers you have tried to connect to, is it possible that MAC address filtering was turned on and did not include the MAC addresses of your Intel Macs?
If the WEP password is a hex key, have you placed the "$" before it when entering the password on your MBP?

  • Original iSight with intel Mac Pro

Just bought an original iSight off ebay (in pristine condition!) Hooked it upto to my Mac Pro, it worked for about 15 seconds then switched off... does any one know if there is a driver for intel macs to get this beautiful camera to work with it?
    Many thanks,
    Ben Collier

    Hello Ben.
You can test your external iSight using the suggestion in How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional.
All iSight drivers, including everything you need for iChat AV, are built into your Mac OS and Apple applications, but you should be using the latest versions.
    Update to 10.4.10 as follows:
    • Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    • Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
    • Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).
    • Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
If you have enabled automatic checking in System Preference... > Preferences > Update Software > Check for updates:, your OS X 10.4 system software will automatically notify you of any necessary updates required for your iSights and the software that uses them.
