Canon iP4200 printer problem

A couple years ago I needed ink for the 4200 printer and decided (because I was no longer printing pictures) that it would cost no more to buy a new Canon printer.  I bought a 3500 Canon inkjet and kept the 4200 as a spare.  The 3500 gave up the ghost 2 months ago and I went back to using the 4200.  I print most of my paper using grayscale.  Two things happened (particularly noticeable when printing the daily crossword) when I went back to the 4200: (1) the grayscale was much lighter in color and (2) there are horizontal bars evident on the crossword puzzle: the alternate bars are solid light gray alternating with s speckled bar in the same gray shade.  Strangely the printed definitions for the puzzle are black and then gray in the same alternating horizontal pattern.  I have tried the Deep Cleaning in Utility Maintenance a couple times. and I thought I uninstalled (3500) and reinstalled (4200) correctly.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Not sure why.  Clogged ink nossles?

The ink cartridge has gone bad.  You need to buy a new cartridge.   You can look on ebay for a good deal on a cartridge.
In particular, when you do not use a cartridge for a long period of time, the ink dries.  Some cartridge holes get clogged. you could try applying rubbing alcohole on the cartridge head.  Good luck. I haven't had much succes with unclogging cartridges.

  • Canon MX310 printer problem

I purchased a Gateway LX6810-01 from BestBuy this past February. It came bundled with a Canon MX310 printer. I can copy, print and fax with the printer, however I can not get the scan function to work. I worked with Canon for days and nothing they tried would fix my problem, they finally told me to contact Gateway.
I contacted Gateway, the printer is still under warranty, and they wanted to charge me about $700 to work on my problem. The last error message I got was "missing dependency 1068" "the dependency service or group failed to start" "windows could not start the (WIA) service on local computer" .
First of all I would like my problem resolved. Secondly I am curious to know if anyone else that purchased this particular bundled product from BestBuy encountered the same problem and if so, why is this being bundled if it does not work. Thirdly, I am curious to know if switching from Windows Vista (64) to Windows 7 will solve my problem.
All help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure they are the 64 bit drivers, you may have to download them from Canon's website.

  • Canon MF4010 printer problem

I have a Canon MF4010 printer connected via USB and have downloaded the CUPS software from the Canon website.  I tried to Add Printer under System Preferences but when I do "Select Software" nothing is shown.  If I select "Other" and go to the path where the software sits (Library-Printers-Canon-Cups printer-Utilities) and try to select the software from there, it doesn't accept it.  Any ideas what to try next?

Try restarting the Mac. This will often make the list of installed printers appear in the Printer Software window.

You cannot add a printer that uses the Canon UFR2 driver in this manner. You must select the printer name from the printers list that should now populate after the restart.

  • Installing a Canon iP4200 printer

My problem is getting 10.4.3 to recognise the print driver.
I have followed the installation instructions many times and always come up against the same problem. When I have resarted the computer and go to the print utility and push add, an extra window comes up and recognises the printer then searches for the print driver. But the add button stays dimmed, and yet again I still can't access the printer. I have used both the installation cd and also downloaded another driver from the Canon site .But still no success.
I'm hoping someone else has come up with this problem and successfully solved it.
I'd also like to wish you all a happy new year Gordon Armstrong.

    Hi,
A couple of days back I made a similar posting:
"I have a new iP4200 Canon printer to be accessed by two iBooks (both running OS 10.4.4 and an iMac G5 running 10.4.4.
The Canon software CD was difficult to download to iMac but better with the iBooks.
iBooks pick up printer fine via wireless, but cannot appear to get drivers to download onto iMac. Have tried direct downloads of driver from several Canon sites but to no avail.
Error message in Printer Setup Utility stage is always the same:
"an error occurred while trying to add the selected printer"
Seems it cannot locate the driver - which Spotlight cannot find either. Installing 10.4.5 is no help either.
Both Canon and Apple support offer little practical help.
Is this a one-off problem with my iMac?"
Reading your post and responses it seems I'm not alone.
I tried the newest driver and found it no good either.
My dear wife tells me to return the printer, but it is a beauty (when I use the lappies wirelessly) but that is the frustration - works on some and not on the desktop!
If you have any updates (or is it still a problem?) please tell me.
    Thanks.

  • Canon MG5350 printing problem: missing parts of the image

I am trying to print a DVD sleeve which includes text and image and only the text is printing correctly. I have done a nozzle check and a print head realignment, this hasn't solved the problem.
Here is a screenshot of the original .doc and below it, a scan of the image as it prints.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: I also deleted and re-installed the printer driver from the Canon site.
Then I tried to print something else and the FONT came out incorrectly.

I works ! Thanks for the tip.  What I did is install the FS-800 driver (since there is no FS-820) and it works (with the ljet4 version).  I was using the FS-850 version ... maybe my problem was from there !  Anyway ! Thanks, you pointed me in the good direction !
    Have a nice day !

  • Canon MX700 Printer problem since upgrade to Lion.

    Hi
Since upgrading to Lion every time I try to print something on my Canon MX700 networked printer I get a communication error. I found that what I have to do to get it to work is to print the document a second time and then delete the first document in the printer queue. This pauses the printer and when it is resumed the second document prints successfully.
Anyone else have this problem or can anyone shed any light on what might be wrong?
    Scanning seems to work OK.
    Many Thanks

you need to upgraded canon MX700 that's support Lion.
you can download updated driver from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_s eries/pixma_mx700#DriversAndSoftware
But remember, you should trash the BJPrinters folder, located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon. This action to uninstall driver canon MX700 that's installed on your mac

  • Canon MX452 Printing Problem (Empty streaks)

I am having trouble printing the page correctly. If you see the picture below, you will notice two empty streaks (in the middle and at the end of page) and you can tell that it is not aligned correctly. I tried to re-align printhead so many times both automatically and manually, but it is not solving the problem. This is only second week having this printer so please help!!!!

    Hi kaylinkoo,
Based on your description of the issue, the Encoder Film inside the printer may be smeared.  Please follow the procedures below to check the film condition, and clean it when necessary:
     1.  Press the power button to turn your PIXMA MX452 off.
     2.  Unplug the power cord from the printer.  Be sure to turn off the printer power and unplug the power cord first.
     3.  Open the Paper Output Cover.
     4.  Check if the Encoder Film inside the printer is clear.  The Encoder Film is the transparent thin film:
     5.  If the Encoder Film is smeared as shown in the image, it needs to be cleaned.
     6.  Place a few drops of neutral detergent (2 to 3 drops of neutral detergent in 1/4 cup of tap water) on a cotton swab with water. CAUTION: Do not use any other detergents.
     7.  Moisten a cotton swab with the prepared cleaning water. Eliminate extra water so that no water drops.
     8.  Using the moistened cotton swab, wipe the Encoder Film.  CAUTION: Be cautious so that no water drops inside the printer.
CAUTION:  Do not contact the rail. If the rail is contacted, the print quality may be deteriorated. The Encoder Film is fixed to the printer with the springs at the ends. If the film is pushed too strong, it may be dislocated. Do not push the film. Just gently move the cotton swab over the surface of the film.
Also, please keep your hands off the printer and clean the film with the tip of the cotton swab.  Change the cotton swab to new ones frequently.
     9.  Eliminate any stains or smearing from the film until the entire film becomes transparent and clear.
    10.  If the trail of detergent is left on the film, clean it using a cotton swab that is moistened with just water.  If moisture is left on the film, eliminate it using a dry cotton swab, and wait until the film dries well.
    11.  Close the Paper Output Cover, and plug in the power cord of the printer.
    12.  Press the power button to turn your PIXMA MX452 on.
    13.  Please print a test page.
    14.  If the problem persists, check and clean the Encoder Film again.
If the print quality is still not improved even after repeated cleaning of the Encoder Film, your PIXMA MX452 would unfortunately require service.

  • Shared Canon MP500 print problem using 10.5.4 and InDesign

    Here's a wierd one!
I am using a brand new Mac Pro running 10.5.4, on a network connected to a G5 PowerMac 1.6 Ghz running 10.4.11. The Powermac has a Canon MP500 inkjet printer attached.
So when I print from the Mac Pro I use the shared printer. I am trying to print a landscape A4 document direct from Indesign (CS3 ver 5) - but using the shared printer I can not get it to print on the paper the right way round! It works perfectly from word or preview.
So I thought it might be Indesign so I plugged the printer directly to the Mac Pro and it works fine. So is there perhaps an issue with shared printing on leopard?
    Any thoughts would be good!

I think you may find that this is more of a CS3 issue, rather than a Leopard printing sharing issue - you said yourself that Word and Preview are okay.
We've had issues with our Canon printers with Fiery print controllers and landscape printing. We found that landscape documents would print the first page fine and the following pages in Portrait. Checking the Adobe forums we saw others having the same issue and a workaround that has worked for us to date.
In the ID print dialog, select Setup and change the Paper Setup to 'Defined by Driver'. Then select the Page Setup tab on the bottom of the print dialog and select the Canon printer and Landscape orientation. Okay this and then try printing...

  • Trying to Print from a Mac to a Canon iP4200 connected to a Dell

I just picked up a MacBook Pro this summer and have been trying to get it to print on a Canon iP4200 printer. It is connected to a Dell desktop with XP. The communication is through a wireless network. The Mac thinks it is sending the print through the network and thinks it is working. However, the Dell and printer never receive it.

It still may not work down to the Canon drivers, ensure that you have the latest Canon drivers.
It should work with the PrintFab Drivers (but these cost).

  • USB cable required for Canon IP4200??

    Hi
I may be having a bad day or maybe I'm just dumb but anyway.... I just bought a Canon IP4200 printer and installed teh driver. Now it doesn't come with a USB cable so looking at the USB port on the printer it looked like the ones on my iBook, so I bought a A male to A male cable. Then I plugged both ends in to connect the 2, however as you've probably guessed it doesn't recognise the printer.
A quick online check reveals that I seem to need an A male to B male cable. However when I see the picture of this, the B male connector is a different, smaller shape and I cannot figure out where that would fit into if I bought it. The A male connector I am fine with as that looks like it can go into either the iBook or the printer but the B male I have no idea! Can anyone advise on what I am doing wrong or am I just mad???
    Thanks

  • Trouble printing to Canon ip4200 over Airport Express from Windows XP

I've just spent the last 4 hours trying to get my Dell laptop running XP to print to my Canon ip4200 USB printer connected to my Airport Express. My PowerBook (10.3.4) connected without issue and has been working fine. The XP laptop just refused to print, and the "troubleshooter" was useless. It would print fine over a direct USB connection, but, despite following the directions for connecting an Airport Printer in XP to the letter, it failed to print every time.
I was tearing my hair out in frustration when I eventually discovered this post at macosxhints: "RAW port has changed!" (scroll down thew page a bit):

The default Raw configuration for "Standard TCP/IP Port" was set to 9100. I manaully changed it to 9101 and all works great now.
I don't know where the default of 9100 came from, but this has cost me an entire morning of frustration. GRRRRR!

Not printing text only on Canon--grahics print ok.  Not printer problem.  Prints ok on a Brother and another network Apple prints ok on Canon.  Believe a computer setting was inadvertently reset.  What setting and how do I reset?

Without your printer model numbers, readers can only give you vague general directions.
    System Preferences > Print&Fax > ...
... shows a list of all set-up printers.
If you are having serious problems, it makes sense to "Reset the Printing System" (which also removes all printer set-ups) and add back each printer. It only takes a few minutes.

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

  • Printing problems with Canon Pixma IP4700

I used to use a PC, photoshop and my Canon pixma IP4700. With this i could achieve perfect results on an A4 image. I have embedded the correct paper profile and my colour management system was set up just right. I have now upgraded to a mac(running Snow Leopard OS) , but i am now getting problems with my prints. I opened up the exact same .psd file without changing anything and sent it off to print on my canon. The result has came out far too bright?. When i used my PC I would have a lot more controls within my printer driver screen, but now with the mac the printer driver screen dosnt have very many controls at all. Even when i soft proof the print on the print screen it dose not show it any ware near as bright as the end result print.
I am a student of photography and i have asked a few of my class mates and they say that they have had the same problem. They tend to use a professional printers, but as i had received such perfect prints before I know this result is obtainable.
Is there anything anyone can suggest to help??
If there is any more information i can provide to help just let me know.
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi there,
In reading your post I'd be curious to see the cups error log. Given that the Gutenprint drivers would not print also, I would say that something is wrong with the core printing system. The log would show which filter is causing the spooler to stop.
Thinking that it is CUPS related, I would try resetting printing system (if you haven't done so already). Then I would add the queue again using the Gutenprint driver for starters. If this doesn't work then no need to try the Canon driver.
Note that the Canon test print is not an actual print but an instruction to output the inbuilt data. But the test print via the Gutenprint printer queue is a page generated by CUPS. So this would suggest that the CUPS usb backend is okay and something further up the spool creation process is failing. Again, the cups error log would give some clues as to what is going wrong. As to why both driver sets are failing is interesting...
