Canon iP4300 and Leopard ...

Has anyone successfully got this printer to work with Leopard? I found some drivers at the Canon site and installed them but no joy. The printer doesn't come up when you go through the 'add printer' process.
Can anyone help?
For what its worth, the Canon 'Helpline' was one of the worst experiences I've had when needing technical support. The guy admitted to knowing nothing about Macs or OSX, said no-one else there did either, and that anything to do with the computer (i.e getting their drivers set up in it to run their printer) was a 'third-part issue' and basically my problem to resolve.
Apparently canon are sending me a customer feedback email. I'm very much looking forward to filling that one in.

Hello Ian,
If the printer is connected directly to your Mac via USB, then after installing the software you generally do not need to add the printer. When you connect its USB cable to your Mac, then the printer should automatically appear in your Printers list. If this doesn't occur, then it indicates that the driver software did not install correctly, or you have some other software on your Mac that is interfering with the Canon driver software, or your USB cable is no good, or all of the above.
For a USB connected printer, when you select to Add, the printer name should be seen in the Default browser view. Do you see the printer?
If you do see the printer, then you can select it and the Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer. If this doesn't occur, then soomething has gone wrong with the Canon driver installation. Therefore, please follow my steps for removing and reinstalling the Canon driver.
1. Open the System Preferences > Print & Fax. Move your mouse to the Printer list and hold down the Control key. Click in the empty Printers list and the click on Reset Printing System.
2. Close Print & Fax
3. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
4. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon iP4300 xxx.pkg
5. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
6. Go to HD > Users > Shared > Canon and delete the BJPrinter folder.
7. Empty the Trash
8. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
9. Install the latest version of the Canon driver, which according to the Canon AU web site is v5.8.3.
10. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option. Close Disk Utility when this has completed.
11. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
12. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
13. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer. Click Add to complete the process.
Please reply if the procedure above does not help you.

  • Problem with Canon Printer and Leopard

I have a Canon Ink-Jet (Pixma IP 4200) printer, which, until two days ago was running fine.
Since then, I've been unable to print on it - either I get the error message that the printer is out of paper, when it isn't, or that the computer cannot connect with the printer.
I've tried uninstalling the printer, and re-installing it, both with the Canon drivers, and with the Gutenprint ones, but to no avail.
Not only that, but when the printer is connected via the Canon drivers, either wirelessly, or via USB, then my MacBook fan starts to run all the time, very loudly. Once I delete the printer again, then the MacBook becomes silent within thirty seconds.
    Weird, huh?
    Any ideas????

Try running a reset printing system. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Then hold down the Control key and click your mouse in the Printers list. A menu showing Reset printing system should appear. Click this.
Now restart your Mac and then add the Canon driver again. Hopefully this gets things working for you again.

  • Canon IP4300 utility unavailable in Snow Leopard (via airport express)

    Hello,
I´ve tried to install my Canon IP4300 trough Airport Express in Snow Leopard. It ´s recognized by Airport Utility and it is listed in the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences. It prints the test page without problems.
However i´m unable to access the Printer Utility (from the options & supplies tab in the printer preferences panel) when connected through Airport Express. The printer isn´t listed neither in the USB nor in the Network options in the drop down list.
I´ve tried to connect the printer directly to my mac via USB and everything works as expected. I have access to the Printer Utility as it appears listed under the USB dropdown selection in the Utility tab.
But how do i access it trough Airpot Express? Should n´t it be listed under the Network in the Utility tab? (This is used to clean the printer´s head/noozles and to perform other maintenance operations).
I´m using the latest drivers available from Canon (USA):10.26.0.0
    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The inability to open the Printer Utility for a printer when connected to the USB port of an Airport device, such as Express, is a known limitation and documented by Apple in these articles.

  • Canon printer and Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have now spent up to 8 hours trying to get my Canon MX 340 working again.  I checked the printer log and it said that the printmanagerfailed, I found a topic here about the same problem and it stated to go into system preferences and right click the canon printer and to select reset printing system.   Well I did that and it wiped out all my printers so needless to say that didn't work. Now I can't get it setup at all.  I have reloaded all of the drivers and software and it isn't even showing up in my system preferences so I can't add it.  I am pulling my hair out and really really need some help.  HELP!

Why would I go to HP printer support, it is a canon printer and yes I did download Canon's driver, what a joke.  I have found some information on this forum but so far no good.  At least I now have it showing up in systems preferences but still not working.  I wished I had checked all this b4 upgrading since I may not have done it.  I have downloaded the Apple supplied driver so if anyone out there knows what to do now I still need help.

  • Canon 40D RAW Files and Leopard???

    Hi all,
Haven't actually bought Leopard yet (have to wait till pay day!!) but have a pretty serious question to ask.
Has anyone tried opening the RAW files from a Canon 40D on Leopard?? Just I know that in 10.4.10 they are simply unsupported. Just in case no-one has access to a 40D at the moment, here is a link to a 40D RAW file (zipped). If someone would be so kind as to try it out and post back, I would really appreciate it!! It's killing me having to use JPG in Aperture!!!

I just upraded to Leopard, and in addition to confirming that 40D files are now recognized by Preview, iPhoto'08 and Aperture, I noticed another interesting new feature.
    - in Leopard, you don't even need to open Preview or any other app to view RAW files.
the new Quick Look feature in the Finder views all sorts of files right from the Finder, including 40D RAW files.
Just tap the spacebar with any image file (or files) selected in the Finder, and up pops the Quick Look window. works for RAW or JPEG. you can switch to full screen view too. if you have more than 1 file selected you can view index sheet or slideshow, like the old right-click feature in Tiger. works in any Finder view - icon, list, browser and Cover Flow too. looks very handy.
p.s. the Finder Get Info in Leopard now correctly displays EXIF data, including proper shutter speed and aperture (Tiger did not display aperture, and shutter speed was awkwardly displayed in decimal, not a common fraction)

  • Can print to shared Canon iP4300 via Bonjour - but not with Canon driver

I've searched the forums and therefore know roughly what the problem is, but still need some concrete info please...
Have finally managed to share my Canon iP4300 connected to iMac (10.5.2) via USB and print to it from XP, using Bonjour for Windows. However... when I run the printer assisntent it finds the printer but only offers me the choice of a generic driver. The driver turns out to be labelled "HP Color LaserJet 4550 PS". A postscript driver?!? Well, it works, but I'd really prefer the proper Canon driver (which is already installed - I previously had the printer connected to the PC).
Yet, when I select this driver retrospectively (from the printer-share properties dialogue), I cant print. This, if I understand correctly is because the Canon driver doesn't support Bonjour?
So is there anything I can do? Eg. I've read about the Gimp drivers, but they're only for OSX right?
Maybe this generic "HP" driver will be adequate (haven't printed anything properly yet) but would like to know if anybody has suggestions other than contacting Canon (which I will do anyway).
    Cheers

I Have the same Problem as you,
I Have the Canon MP180, and i have the driver on my windows XP Laptop
But when i try to connect to it, using Bonjour (as the printer is connected to the mac) it uses a HP Color LaserJet 4550 PS driver even though its Canon
Does anyone know how to use the proper driver.
It works ok using the HP Driver, but the quality of the printouts from the windows XP laptop seem rubbish
    Many Thanks
    Alex
P.S if you got this working, can you send me a message back.

  • Canon Log and Transfer problem

    Hello all,
I'm trying to upload some HD files from my Canon HF20 on the latest edition of FCP to my iMac 10.58 and running into a problem.
FCP recognizes the video captured on the internal memory. However, it does not recognize the video captured on the SD card in the camera.
    Any ideas?

Well, I'm connected to my iMac using a USB. (iMac is running version 10.58 of Leopard). I'm using the latest version of FCP 7.0.2
I can log and transfer files "taped" to the internal memory of my HF20. Files show up fine and import fine.
However, the files that are on the SD card in the camera don't show up in the Log and transfer. ( I put the SD card on a card reader and still no luck.)
I put the card back into the camera and hit the "Add volume" on the top left of the log and transfer and I can see my Canon drive and the other drive which is called "No Name" (I'm assuming simply because I haven't named it anything) I'm also assuming the No Name Drive is the SD card. However, I may be wrong. All the files are grayed out on this drive.
Not sure what else I need to add to give you more info. Let me know if what other info needed and I'll post it.
    Thanks again!

  • MacMini and Leopard

    Well!
I recently bought a MacMini because the motherboard on my eMac allegedly croaked. The replacement cost wasn't much more than a new mini so I figured, "what the heck." Then, I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5 the day after it became available.
Since installing Mac's new Leopard, I am no longer able to use my Canon 8400F Scanner or CanoScan scanning software, Photoshop Elements, Alsoft Diskwarrior, Lacie SilverKeeper and IMSI TurboCad. The menu bar and title bars in Safari display vertical lines that make text illegible and, worse yet, Apple Mail randomly stops downloading some of my mail from Road Runner. Yep, it stumped Road Runner, too.
You know, I wish they had a method for more thorough testing at the store level, because I am not convinced there was anything wrong with that eMac motherboard. With all the software I'm going to have to repurchase, I'm thinking about taking the eMac off the junk shelf and setting it up on my desk, again. I'm almost certain, at this rate, that there won't be much difference in productivity.
Now, let's see: I'm on Social Security. I don't make a lot of bread, but I feel certain that I can set aside a small amount each month to upgrade my software before the Social Security System goes belly up . . . . maybe.
For the present, however, can someone out there please tell me how to uninstall Mac OS 10.5 and downgrade to Max OS 10.4 without making a bigger mess than I am in right now.
    Thank you.

    Well, Da Brew,
Unfortunately, now that a higher version of Mac OS X is installed, the only way to downgrade is to *Erase & Install*.
You'll have to back up all your data, but this is not a problem as you already do that anyway.
_Running both Tiger and Leopard on your Mini:_
Since you're erasing everything, why not split your internal HD into two partitions,
install Tiger on Volume 1 and Leopard on Volume 2?
Use the Tiger DVD to partition HD (menu Utilities > Disk Utility),
    then install Tiger,
then install Leopard later on Volume 2.
    Good luck!
    Axel

  • Canon G11 and Camera Raw...

I'm running CR 5.6 on a MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and though this version is supposed to support the Canon G11, I'm finding it abysmal at any ISO higher than 200-400.  The amount of noise added between the preview (which I know is based on the JPEG) and opening it in CR is significant and the white balance goes nuts as well.  I've also tried the new DNG Converter and see the same thing.  Is anyone else having this issue?  I've also got the Canon S90 but haven't tried it out yet.  I'm also going to post something in the Lightroom forum as that's where, ultimately, I'd like to do most of my RAW processing.
I'm attaching two images-- one is the jpeg from the canon g11 and the other is a jpeg exported from Photoshop CS4 without any processing to illustrate this.  The ISO was 500 on these shots.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Having done still more playing, now with some more shots under artificial lighting, I'd have to say the colour in the Adobe Standard profile for the G11 is starting to look less good under tungsten light.  In sunlight/daylight the Adobe standard profile is really excellent, colorwise, but under tungsten lights the reds and browns can assume a day-glo quality that is quite alarming!
The Canon profiles and the jpegs seem to handle tungsten much much better - to get a similar (more accurate) result on the Adobe standard profile I have to pull the red saturation right down and shift the red hue slightly towards orange in the calibration tab.  I'd need to get hold of a proper colour checker and shoot it under more controlled conditions under tungsten light with a proper white balance done to be sure, (as the lighting conditions for the concert shots I was playing with were suboptimal to put it mildly) but getting as good colour under tungsten light as the jpegs spit out is definitely proving a little troublesome with the 5.6 beta. I can work around it by switching to a different default setting for high ISO, using the Canon profiles where I'm likely to be shooting using tungsten, but it's getting to be more mucking about than I'd like for an upmarket point and shoot! It would be nice if the Adobe profile for the G11 was as effective as the one for my 20D, where it just works. No need to kludge with exposure adjustments or use a different profile for different light sources.

  • Canon ip4300: suddenly no duplex printing

I have a Powerbook G4 15in running 10.5.8 (the latest OS this non-Intel machine will run) and a desktop iMac 24in which I've recently upped to 10.6.4 from 10.5.x. The iMac is linked via a cable to a Canon ip4300 inkjet, and the Powerbook prints to that wirelessly via sharing on the iMac.
Since upping the iMac to 10.6, when I've tried to print duplex pages from the Powerbook, it nonetheless insisted on printing single pages, despite the settings. Must be the driver needs updating, I thought. So I downloaded the latest 5.83 driver from the Canon site, to the Powerbook, and installed it. Now I don't even get a duplex option in the print dialog on the Powerbook!
    Can anyone help?

I'm pleased to say Pahu kindly put me right on this, in the 10.6 section (the question covered 10.5 and 10.6, so I posted in both sections). See...

  • Canon LBP5100 & snow leopard

Upgraded to snow leopard and now my canon LBP5100 printer is not working.
It is not listed under the apple driver list as it is a UK spec printer and i can't find any help on the uk canon website.
Does anyone have a fix? Thanks.

I was about to buy a Canon LBP 5100 when I came across murmurings about Mac OS compatibility, so I googled and found myself here. I phoned and also emailed Canon support and got a very rapid email response (full marks for that, at least, Canon), telling me the same as the phone guy told me:
    +Dear Mr. MacArthur,+
    +Thank you for contacting Canon.+
+Please be advised the printer driver for Mac OS X 10.5 should work for Mac OS X 10.6 however we can not guarantee this and unfortunately we have no exact date for when a 10.6 driver would be released therefor I would advise you to check our website regularly.+

It seems the fixes on this thread work for some of you but not others; I don't think I can risk it, unless anyone can assure me it will work. One of the reasons for the upgrade is to get away from all the hassles I've had for the last few years with an expensive but troublesome HP 7110 All-in-One inkjet. Shame, really, as the reviews rate the Canon LBP5100 and the alternative I'm considering (I need duplex) is the Lexmark C544 (which claims 10.6 compatibility out of the box).
    Any comments appreciated.

  • Copying or installing paper specific colorsync profiles for my canon ip4300

I have the specific colorsync profiles for the various types of paper loaded for my canon IP4300 on one of my imacs that i moved upstairs. I have one of the new 2.8 C2D 24inch imacs now connected and i want to print from it to the Canon. the problem is that i do not recall how i got the profiles onto the other mac. i want to copy the profiles and get them onto the new imac. I cannot seem to find them after looking at EVERY library file on the system and searching for the profile names etc. Please help me know where to look and how i can get them moved over or get the profiles from somewhere and install them. they are not on the disc that came with the printer.
As a side i know i can print across the network but it requires that i go up and down the stairs and across the house to check output.

Normally, they would be in the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder. They may also have been installed in the Profiles folder of your user account, but not as likely.
Sometimes though, they are buried in with the printer drivers themselves. As an example, the Epson 4000 we use copied all of the profiles it came with into the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder. We didn't want to use the provided profiles, so we deleted all of them. To our surprise, they all continued to show up in the lists of profiles. Turned out they were also in a package file named SPro4000.plugin in the /Library/Printers/EPSON/ folder.
Have you contacted Canon to see if they could help you locate them?

  • Macbook Pro not recognizing printer Canon iP4300

    Hello
I have been having problems with my Canon iP4300 Pinter. Once upon a time it worked, now it doesn't. I only use it to print direct to DVD's. I have another printer attached which is an all-in-one Brother for my main printing, faxing etc. (unfortunately it doesn't print direct to DVD tho). I have tried reinstalling the drivers but now mt MB Pro won't recognize the printer at all. If I plug it in to my USB hub I get a message stating "Over Current Usage" or something like that. I try plugging it in to my USB port on the MB Pro left or right side and still nothing. When I go thru Printer Settings it checks for new drivers and still nothing.
    What am I doing wrong?
Can I connect printer with a different cable? Firewire?
    Please help!!

    Hi.
Try a different USB cable. I had troubles with USB printer cables a couple of times, giving me the weirdest problems.
If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the IP4300 driver: move the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter folder to the Trash and empty it, then download and install the latest IP4300 driver from the Canon download page.
Plug the printer directly to the Macbook Pro, or get a powered USB Hub.
    Good Luck.
