Canon IP4300 won't print

Hello,
I have the printer mentioned above and though it did once, weeks ago, now it will not print anymore. I have changed every cartridge (since their lights were flashing) but that did nothing. The printer applet in KDE tells me the job is being processed (for near two hours now), same thing the cups webinterface says.
Where would I start looking to tackle this problem?

Not sure what happens here. I deleted the printer, added it again (I had it as a Gutenprinter in the first place) and it shows the job that has been laying around canceled for the longest while now. The job actually got startet again automatically but was stuck and now that I cancelled it it reads (surprise) "cancelled" but won't get off the list.
And the printers little light is still slowly blinking as IF it were actually processing a job...
This is the error_log for tonights attempt. Can someone read some sense into that?

Hi rrrb, Please make sure that the installed ink tanks are correct and full of ink. The correct order is: CLI-8Bk Black
    PGI-5Bk Black
    CLI-8Y Yellow
    CLI-8M Magenta
CLI-8C Cyan Next, a test of the printer should be performed. The Nozzle Check pattern shows if each print head nozzle is operating properly. Please perform the following steps to print a Nozzle Check pattern: 1. Turn the printer on and make sure paper is loaded into the sheet feeder. 2. On your printer, press and hold the RESUME button until the printer light blinks twice. When you release the button, the Nozzle Check pattern will be printed. 3. After the Nozzle Check pattern is printed, compare the results to this example:  If any colors are missing or if any horizontal lines appear in the color bars, perform the print head cleaning procedure.  To perform a print head cleaning with the printer, please follow these instructions: 1. On your printer, press and hold the RESUME button until the printer light flashes one time. 2. When you release the RESUME button, the POWER light starts flashing and all colors will be cleaned. This will continue for about 30 seconds. 3. Wait for the light to stop flashing before you resume normal operation. Once you have completed two cleanings, please perform another Nozzle Test. Aaron:
All I can think of is to remove the Canon print drivers and then reinstall them. You might go to Canon's site to see if there is a newer driver than what you've got. Also run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. You might try that first.
If neither help I would run OnyX and clean out both the user and system caches. Your first restart afterward will be slower but will get back to normal on subsequent restarts.

  • Canon iP8500 won't print OSX 10.6.3 apps

My Canon iP8500 won't print OSX 10.6.3 apps, it causes them to crash. It crashes Safari, Mail, Text Edit. Other apps (Excel, Word) print fine. I've updates to the new driver (10.30.3.0) to no avail. Any suggestions?

Try opening Disk Utility, selecting the OS X partition and then pressing Repair Disk Permissions.
You could also try opening Print & Fax, moving your mouse over the Printers list, and while holding down the Control key, click your mouse. This will make the Reset printing system pop-up appear. Select this and restart your Mac. This action will delete your printer queues but not your printer driver. So you will just need to open Print & Fax again and add the iP8500.

    Hi tunanut1,
Removing and reinstalling the printer on your computer may resolve the issue you are experiencing.  You can also try removing the USB cable from the printer and the computer and then reconnecting the cable to both devices to ensure that the connections are secure, or try using a different USB cable if you have one available.

  • Canon MP620 won't print

I have a Canon MP620 printer that for some reason the drivers were missing one day and I was unable to find the discs for the printer. I was able to find them online again and it's able to scan but now it won't print anything.
I have it connected via USB to my MacBook Pro (running on 10.5.8) and when I try to print something, the printer queue appears and says that the job is processing and the same on the printer screen but nothing is being printed.
If anyone has some sort of solution, it would be much appreciated.

Solution Menu is just a front-end to the other Canon applications, such as MP Navigator and Easy Photo Print. Solution Menu does not do any of the printing. So, is it the Easy Photo Print application that you cannot print 4" x 6" photos with?
Canon released later versions of applications to be compatible with 10.6. If you are still using the Leopard versions of these applications from your upgrade then you will have download and install the later versions.
If you have the later versions but are still having problems, have you tried using iPhoto as an alternative to see if this will work printing 4" x 6" photos.

  • Canon MF8050cn won't print with Lion ?

    Hi anyone,
I'm pulling my hair trying to get this new printer working with my Mother's new iMac and have failed for the past 6-weeks!
I have followed all sorts of suggestions found here and elsewhere - and none of which have worked!
The printer is connected directly to the USB port and I'm simply trying to add it using the Canon UFR II LT v2.3 driver but it never communicates with printer.
Seems like there is a fundamental incompatibilty between this printer and Lion?
any suggestions, I haven't resorted to a firmware update yet, but maybe I should be looking at this too?
This has been a horrible time wasting experience for both her and me.

One of the problems I have encountered with the UFR2 driver is that it relies heavily on a background service and if this fails to run it will cause printer issues. So the first thing to check is that this "UFR II Backgrounder" service is running on the iMac. Open Activity Monitor and scroll down the list. Do you see this service?
Also, I cannot tell from your post if you have managed to add the printer and that the issue is that it won't print, or you have not been able to add the printer. If you have been able to add the printer but cannot print, then open System Information and select the Printers entry listed under Hardware. In the top right pane will be the installed printers and if you select the MF8050, the bottom right pane will show information about the print queue. Can you copy this information and post it back here please.

  • My Canon D550 won't print to Lion, but it will print to Snow Leapord

I just purchased a Canon ImageClass D550 Scanner/Printer. It works fine with my macbook 10.6; it scans and prints. But it only scans to my macbook pro 10.7.2, it doesn't print.
I called Canon Tech Support. They stated that because it works fine with 10.6, the printer works and it's probably an issue with Lion 10.7.
The printer does appear on the PRINT & SCAN, under System Preferences; and it appears connected under System Monitor.

Thanks for the advice. I followed your instructions, but when I try deleting the file under step 4, I couldn't find the file under Launch Agents.
I installed the driver and reconnected the USB but it doesn't print. What do you recommend?

  • Wireless printing problems with Canon iP4300, but USB printing ok

My MacBook Pro is setup for wireless printing with a printer(Canon Pixma iP4300) connected to my other PC Desktop. The only problem is that when I print anything all the text and images are miniaturized and squished about a quarter of a page large into the upper left corner of an 8.5x11 paper. I installed all the programs that came with the printer installation disk and when I connect my MacBook directly to the printer via USB everything prints out just fine.
I suspect the problem is with the selection of printer model when you go to "Printer Setup" in System Preferences. The existing list of Canon printer models given to me by the computer does not contain anything specific for my iP4300. I simply chose the option "BJC 4300 Gimp-Print v.5.0.0-beta 2". Does anyone know of a way where I could add to that list of printer models or is there another way to get my wireless printing to work normally? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I have the same printer and network printing is a pain. Canon decided not to include a network specific driver for this printer.
You can try getting the latest version of the gimp-print drivers. The latest version has better support for ip4300. If it's worth it to you, PrintFab drivers have been working for me but PrintFab isn't free.
The latest Gimp-print (Gutenprint) drivers are here: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
    Hope that helps.

  • Canon MF4150 won't print when connecting through AP Extreme

I have a MacBook 2.16 about 2 weeks old. I've bought an Airport Extreme and am trying to connect my Canon MF4150 into it but whenever I print it just won't happen. The print queue just shows the jobs as "stopped" and I cannot restart them.

The one other user on the network is using Vista and is printing fine to the printer. I'm using print driver 1.5 from the Canon website.
Any thoughts or help you can give would be appreciated.

You won't be able to get this combination working. There is something about the Canon UFR2 driver that doesn't 'see' the AEBS USB connected printer. Have a read of my posting on the Airport forum.

  • Canon MF4150 - won't print, despite fresh drivers

So I'm trying to help set up a relative's new iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I've downloaded V2.24 of the relevant Canon driver for his ImageClass MF4150 printer, and when I set everything up and go to print, I get this:
"Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported.  If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again.  Then, if the print dialog box has a [Printer Info] button acquire the printer information.: 10322"
Very frustrating.  Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance ...
I did search and it seems like many have had the same problem, but none of the fixes proposed have seemed to work for us.

As sig has suggested, the connection from the Mac to the Canon MF4150 is important. The Canon UFR2 driver only supports a direct USB connection from the Mac to the printer. You cannot have the printer connected to a print server, router or a Windows computer.
If you do have the MF4150 connected directly to the Mac via USB then the USB cable could be the cause of the error. As the error message suggests, you can open a document and select to print. From the print dialog, change the menu to Special Features and press the Printer Info button. This will open the Printer Information window and if the connection is good then you should see an image of the printer. If the connection has a problem then an error message will appear stating that it could not acquire information from the printer.

  • Canon i550 won't print with MacBook and Airport Extreme

Since we got a new MacBook, we upgraded our Airport Express (b/g) to Airport Extreme (n). Needed tech support from Apple to get the computers on the internet (something about the cable company switching IP addresses), which worked great, but since then the only problem is that I can't print wirelessly from the new MacBook to our Canon i550 printer, which is hooked up by USB to the Airport Extreme. (Ironically, when the internet wasn't working through the Airport Extreme, the one thing that DID work was printing wirelessly.) The other computer, a 2007 MacBook Pro, prints wirelessly with no problems, but I see that under "location" in the print utility it still has "Express" listed (on the MacBook I get the new network name, "Airport Extreme"). I've tried reselecting the printer in Bonjour, reselecting it in AirPort Utility under Printers, turning printer on and off, but no matter what, in the printer status box it just says "Connecting", and never actually prints. I just upgraded to 10.5.6 which still didn't help. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions, Brian!
Please work your way through the Apple Troubleshooting Guide to see if your HP might be compatible with the AirPort Express.
Keep in mind that if your device is compatible, only printing is supported at the USB port on the AirPort Express. So, if you need to scan, copy, fax or check ink levels, etc., you will need to hook the device directly to your computer.

  • Canon MF4270 won't print after reinstall.

I've had this Canon MF4270 for years now. It's been connected directly to an old iMac via USB and working fine. Today I installed a receipt-scanner that asked to be installed directly to the computer via USB, and so the Canon lost its spot and was moved to a USB hub. Afterwards, even restoring the printer's original USB connection, I can no longer print!
    Hardware
Canon MF4270 connected via USB to an iMac. Over the course of the trouble-shooting, I've plugged the Canon back into the original connection—direct to the back of the iMac. (The new scanner is now replacing an inkjet printer.) So, the hardware setup for the Canon should be identical to what it has been previously. The iMac is a "20-inch Late 2006" model.
    Software
During trouble-shooting, I downloaded the latest UFRII (v2.3) drivers and installed them, so that may have been a change. (I didn't check what version was installed previously.) The iMac is running OS X 10.7.3.
I guess I don't have a methodological trouble-shooting plan, but so far I've, of course, turned the printer off and on, checked the cables, restarted the iMac, and reinstalled the drivers. I don't know how to uninstall everything, so I haven't been able to really do a clean uninstall/reinstall cycle.
If anyone can offer some advice, I'd sincerely appreciate it!
Oh, and for what it's worth, the error message thrown is:
    Canon UFR II Printer Driver
    An error occurred.: -50
I don't see why I should lose 50 points just because the printer driver has had an error! ;-)
    Thanks!
    -Vijay

    Hello Vijay,
I don't have the MF4270 but I have used the same UFR2 driver with our imageRUNNER copiers. Reading through your post I would like to suggest some things.
The UFR2 Guide says that for USB and simplex network connections, the Device Settings tab replaces the Printer Info tab. Since you don't have either button, the guide then says that if the tab is not displayed, the printer is not turned on. Now obviously it is turned on but there is a problem communicating with the printer. So I would say that either the printer queue has not installed correctly or there is a fault with the printer.
To make sure the printer is okay I would delete the current printer queue and connect the MF to the iMac USB. If you can print via USB then you could take the next step and connect the MF to the iMac's ethernet port using the same cable. You will have to manually set an IP address in the MF, probably something like 10.0.1.10 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. You will also have to set an address for the iMac ethernet port, since it sounds like you are only using wireless at the moment. Try 10.0.1.5 and 255.255.255.0.
With the new addresses set, try adding the printer again, by selecting More Printers > Canon IP (UFR2). If the printer is communicating correctly, the correct driver should be selected and you should be able to print without the 'Data Error'.
If it does work via the directly connected ethernet, then you know the MF is okay and we can concentrate on the network connection via the Airport. Which model of Airport do you have?
As for the second menu showing all zeroes, I think this is what the machine does. Our iR1022iF which is a very similar model shows the same thing when DHCP is used.

  • Snow Leopard and Canon i9900 won't print . . .

I get an error code 311 when trying to print to my Canon i9900 under Snow Leopard. I just installed the Canon driver so I am sure I have the latest one. I can print a test page and verify ink tank levels but can't print a photo. I am connected to this printer via firewire. I also have a Brother HL2070N connected to my router and to my Mac via the ethernet connection. Can this be throwing me off?
    Greg

I am having the same problem. But I am also having an even bigger problem: when I send a document to print from Adobe CS3 (Indesign, Photoshop), and MS Office 2004, they are getting stuck in the print cue and just sitting there, jamming, and not going through to print. I am thinking this is an issue of incompatibility between Adobe CS3 and Mac OS 10.6.2. The new drivers and the new software updates are not helping.
I will try a USB cord instead of the Firewire, but do you think this is a software issue?
