Canon IR 2020 doesn't print

In our office, we have Canon IR 2020 that we used for copy purposes primarily. (because we couldn't get it to work with our macs since day one) Now however, due to increasing needs for prints, we wanted to start printing to it instead of using desktop printers. All our Windows PCs print w/o problem, but neither one of our Macs can :/
Some of them are running 10.6, some 10.5 and neither seems to work. I am using latest Canon UFR II drivers. I tried with both v. 1.80 and the new 2.0. with 1.8 I can't even add printer as described in other posts here, because when I click on add button- nothing happens. I can only click cancel and go back :/
With 2.0 I manage to get the ir 2020 wake up from sleep and make sounds like it's finally gonna do what it's supposed to do, but nothing comes out.
Sometimes error -50 pops up. (when trying with v.2.0 driver)
I tried phoning Canon support, but their tech support is rather poor here in Bosnia, and wasn't helpful with their insisting that Macs should not be used "in office for real work" :/
what am I doing wrong?
Help, I'm left in cold here
tnx a million

Hello SanJean.
In order to get the iR2020 printing from 10.6 you do need to use v2.00 of the UFR2 driver. Version 1.80 and earlier will not work and even v2.00 has some issues.
As for the link posted by KT, don't waste your time downloading this file. The drivers provided via the Apple web site are only provides consumer inkjets, not the imageCLASS or imageRUNNER devices.
The key with the v2.00 driver is to use 'Line Printer Daemon - LPD' for the protocol and to enter a queue name of LP. If you created the queue using HP Jetdirect-Socket, which is known as RAW Port 9100 on Windows, then you will get the error-50 you already mentioned.
The other thing to note is that the LPR port can sometimes be disabled in the imageRUNNER, meaning that you will not be able to get the UFR driver to print. The Windows queues will default to Port 9100, which is often on by defaut, so they will have no issue printing to the device. But for the Mac, because you need to use LPD rather than Socket for the UFR2 driver, then you must ensure the LPR port is enabled. This can be checked/changed via the iR2020 control panel (under System Settings > Network Settings) or via the Remote UI (the built-in web page of the iR2020).
Once you have the LPR port enabled and a new print queue using LPD for the protocol, the print job should work. The only other thing that could stop it from working is Department ID management. If you have this enabled in the iR2020 then you will need to enable the Job Accounting setting in the driver. Select to print a document using the iR2020 and select the Special Features menu. You should see an entry of Job Accounting. If not, press the Printer Info button under the picture of the printer. A new window should appear showing the features of the iR2020. If Dept ID is enabled it will be shown in this window. Click OK to close this window and return to the Special Features pane. Now you should have the Job Accounting button. Select it to enter you Dept ID and password.
Hope this is helpful to you. Please reply if you still need more help...

  • [SOLVED]Canon D1100 Series UFRII LT doesn't print, CUPS thinks it does

    Hello everyone,
I have been struggling getting a network printer at work working with my laptop. I installed the driver from Canon's web site, and everything seems to be fine on my end, but the network printer doesn't print anything I give it. I can't find the issue in my log after running the following command:
echo "This is a test. Hello world." | lpr -p

I believe this is all the relevant information from the log. I've not had any success finding this issue in the wiki or in the forums. Google's turned up no help. I'd really like getting this printer to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't find that printer on the canon eu support website (canon uses model numbers on that site, not series designations) , and canon printers are not easy to get to work well on archlinux.
However there are 2 aur packages that provide the UFRII driver :
    - cndrvcups-lb (built from source)
    - cndrvcups-lb-bin (uses the binaries)

  • Canon multifunction cups recognized the printer but doesn't print

    i've a canon i-sensys MF4120 multifunction printer that don't won't to print on archlinux 64 bit.
I've installed cups, compiled and installed the driver for the printer from AUR (cndrvcups-common and ufr2), started cups an added the printer, but when i try to print the test page cups process the job but the printer doesn't print), if i try to print from firefox cups give the following error: "pstoufr2cpca write error,32." and the job get stopped. I've tryed several re-add/delete/cups stop/star, but nothing change, the printer won't work.
    dmesg give the following output
    usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 6 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x26A3
usbcore: registered new interface driver usblp

usblp0: nonzero read bulk status received: -71
usblp0: nonzero read bulk status received: -71
usblp0: nonzero read bulk status received: -71
Every "nonzero read bulk status received: -71" in a print job lauched but never printed (or so it seem)
don't know if it may be useful but i've uploaded here the errorlog of cups (rapidshare link...)

The problem is not with your printer but with CUPS.  I had the same problem with an upgrade that was done.  It worked before but did not work after the upgrade in CUPS.  I guess others are having problems as well as you can see in the link posted.

  • Canon LBP 2900 doesn't work under Snow Leopard 10.6.3

    Canon LBP 2900 doesn't work under 10.6.3.
    It worked under 10.5.6, 10.5.7 and 10.5.8.
The installation process is described here http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10723997#10723997
I did the same under SL but no result.
    Any suggestion?

The procedure of using the CAPT folder from a previous version of OS X was not always successful with 10.5, let alone 10.6. For those like you that did find it worked, there were many others that found the workaround did not work for them.
Version 3.05 of CAPT lists the following Canon printers as supported models.
    LBP9100Cdn
    LBP7200C series
    LBP5300
    LBP5100
    LBP5050 series
    LBP3500
    LBP3310
    LBP3300
    LBP3250
    LBP3150
    LBP3108
    LBP3100
    LBP3050
    LBP3018
    LBP3010
    LBP3000
You may have more success with trying to get this driver to work with your LPB2900. At least this version has been written for 10.6.
If this new driver does not work with the LPB2900 then another solution would be to have an old Windows XP computer connected to the LBP2900 and then use the following procedure to print to it from the Mac.

  • MG5320 doesn't print at all

My MG5320 was working fine for over a year, now it doesn't print at all. When I send a print job, the printer goes through all the motions, sounds like it's printing, and ejects the paper, but it's blank. I've put in new cartridges (a few times), run the nozzle clean and deep clean but none of that helps. Have downlaoded and installed the latest drive,  removed and cleaned the print head (using distilled water) and still no printing.I've hooked it up via usb connection to three different computers (Mac, Win 7, Win XP) and it behaves the same. It scans OK just doesn't print. There's no error code.Any idea what is going on?

Mine just went out yesterday. I find it interesting that this thread is a year old, yet Canon has posted nothing beyond the original response two days after the thread started. Their printers are suddenly failing and people have been trading info on which brand to switch to on Canon's own forum, but they aren't going to respond? My guess is that either they have no clue whatsoever what the problem is, or they've decided its more cost effective to get whatever revenue they can from the product line and redesign the flaw out of future models.  Neither one is good for them long-term.  I'm betting some 3rd-party supplier/assembler isn't meeting their quality requirements and they're finding out about it from their customers.  Again, bad for them. If they know what the issue is, maybe try something like this:"We're sorry you're having issues with our product.  The problem is (x), and needs to be repaired by our technicians.  We can repair this issue if you will send the item in; repair would cost (y), and you would be responsible for shipping.  We understand that, given the age of your product, this might not be the most desirable option for you.  If you would rather replace the printer, we would value keeping you as a customer and would like to offer (cost of repair "y" & shipping) off the purchase of any one of our other printers, in addition to any current discounts.  Please provide (proof of ownership/purchase) and we will give you a coupon for this discount." My hope is that they're contacting people offline and offering something along those lines, but they still ought to address the issue in this thread to clue the rest of us in.  Or they might just not moderate their forums that well to keep track of ongoing/persistent issues.  Then why have a support forum? It could be, too, that this is a problem caused by the consumer.  Maybe off-brand inks (hey, I'm honest) cause the print head to wear out prematurely, or don't flow properly through the components, stick to them, etc.  We were all warned, right?  If that's the case:"We have found this issue to be caused by using inks other than those recommended in your owner's manual.  This risk is mentioned in your owners manual on page (x).  You will need to replace (y) to fix the issue.  etc. etc." However, if they don't know what the issue is, we're probably all better off switching brands anyway. P.S. - I switched to Canon because my multifunction Brother had gone out and Canon had great reviews for quality.  So far, this printer has been amazing and has performed strongly with excellent quality.  I'm very surprised to see Canon drop the ball on this.

  • Printing to Canon ImageRUNNER 3200 network color printer

    Hi folks,
I'm the lone Mac user working in a corporate Windows environment. I've succesfully been able to use IP addresses to print to various HP printers, but I'm so far unable to print to the aforementioned Canon ImageRUNNER 3200 color laser printer. I downloaded Canon's driver for Mac OS 10.1/10.2/10.3/10.4 and tried adding it to the printer center as an IP printer but it won't print. Then I tried adding it using Canon's IP printer utility (I saw it in the pull down menu from the print center) and that doesn't work either. It seems to see the printer on the network, but just won't print. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was doing some Googling and saw the device Queue Name for ImageRunners is "print." Try entering that in Printer Setup.

  • Canon Selphy CP730 won't print anymore

After installing the latest iPhoto (7.0.2) my Canon Selphy CP730 Compact Photo Printer won't print photo's from iPhoto anymore. The light on the printer blinks for a second, goes red and then back to green, while an icon in the Dock shows the CP730 with a red exclamation mark.
The strange thing is that I can print from all my other applications to this device. And with the previous iPhoto there where no problems either. I already reinstalled the drivers for the CP730, without succes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michel

    Michel:
Try deleting the various printing pref files. One would be located in the User/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder. It would look something like this: com.apple.print.Cache.0016cb3791b6.plist (number will be different). Also com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist and any obvious Canon prefs for the printer. There will be a lot of other Canon prefs but look of any that are obviously linked to the printer. You may not fine any, however.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Pixma iP4600 doesn't print on TC

i just bought a Canon Pixma iP4600 printer and connected it to my time capsule which I use as a router for my Imac, MacBook, ATV and Iphone.
The installation of the printer went fine except that I wasn't able to do the printer head alignment because for this task the printer couldn't be found. The printer shows up in the system preferences>Print&Fax and also in the Airport Utilities>Manual Setup>Printers (or Summary).
When I try to print from one of my two computers the printer doesn't print and the on/off status light blinks green (as if it was handling data) and the printer queue gives me error message 306. Furthermore, the printer doesn't show up in the printer list from system preferences>Print&Fax>Open Print Queue> Utility. Neither USB nor Network show any printer. I thought it should show up in Network to allow for maintenance etc.
When I connect the printer directly to my computer it works just fine and prints instantly.
I tried everything disconnecting the printer and resetting the printer list etc.....nothing fixed the problem.
I haven't yet set up my time machine for back up as my Imac is new and I am just in the process of cleaning up data on my Macbook and moving data over. This shouldn't matter though...or should it?
    Any help/thoughts are much appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,
    Frank

The "spine insert" is normally known as the tray liner. It fits into the back of a 10 mm jewel case, and reached up both spines. iTunes does not print them.
As you observed, iTunes has a few very limited options for printing jewel cases. If you are serious about producing nice CD packaging, or even want just a little more control over the printed output, you will need to use another program.

  • Canon ImageClass c2100 Color Laser Printer and OS 10.6

    Hi-
I have a Canon ImageClass c2100 Color Laser printer which, as I understand it, shares drivers and some parts with the HP Color LaserJet 8500. I have owned the printer for many years but it hasn't been used since we updated our systems to 10.6. We are on a wired Ethernet network with passive hubs and an Asante Firewall.
After firing up the ImageClass c2100 we do not seem to be able to print. I get the message "cannot connect to printer" or the print process just hangs up. I am looking for some step by step instructions for both the settings on the Canon printer and for the Mac print preferences. For example:
    When adding printer:
LPD or IPP? My HP 4050TN works with this at LPD so thats what I have been doing on the Canon
What IP address do I put in there? I see the IP on the printer is set to 192.168.123.169 so I have been using that.
For the driver software I select HP Color LaserJet 8500 as I believe that this worked before.
On the Canon ImageClass c2100 I have the settings as:
    TCP/IP - Ethernet - Set to YES
Enable Auto IP - Set to NO
    Ethernet IP - 192.168.123.169
    Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
    Gateway - 192.168.123.254
    Appletalk - Set to YES
If any of you out there are Mac and Canon experts I'd love a hand getting this combo running. Seems a shame to retire this old workhorse when she has lots of pages left in her.
    Cheers.

Did you confirm that the Mac and the C2100 can 'see' each other? On the Mac, you can open Network Utility and select the Ping tab. Here you can type the IP address of the C2100, set the number of Pings to 4 and then press the Ping button. If there is working path between the two devices then you should get 4 responses from the C2100 for each ping. If the results show something else then post those responses back here.
The other thing you can do is open Safari and type the IP address of the Mac as the URL. If there is a path between the two devices then this will connect to the internal web page of the C2100. If it doesn't show the internal web page then this also confirms that you have the Mac and the C2100 configured for different networks and this will cause the pausing issue.
If you do get a ping response, or can connect to the internal web page, then the pausing can be a result of the protocol you selected not being available on the C2100. As I mentioned before, for an LPD connection a queue name of print must be entered. But if the LPD/LPR setting is not enabled on the C2100 then this will cause the queue to pause. So you could try creating another queue to the C2100, but this time selecting HP Jetdirect-Socket for the protocol. While LPD can be disabled by default, RAW Port 9100 (which is known as HP Jetdirect-Socket on the Mac) is often on as this is the default protocol used by Windows - and it is important we don't upset Windows users ;-) With Jetdirect you will notice that no queue name is required, so all you need to enter is the IP address and then select Generic Postscript in the Print Using menu.
See how that goes for you....

  • Epson SX218 doesn't print (client-error-document-format-not-supported)

    Hi there,
I'm currently trying to figure out how to get my Epson Stylus SX 218 to work. Unfortunately, cups (or the printer or whatever causes my problems...) obviously just doesn't want me to get this to work.
Here's what I've done so far:
I installed everything as described in the CUPS wiki article (so ghostscript and all the foomatic-stuff is installed, usblp is NOT blacklisted, see why below)
    I installed epson-inkjet-printer-workforce-sx218 from AUR
    I started cups...
Nothing worked (Printer not recognized, either with or without blacklisted usblp module...)
I searched the forums for a solution
I installed cups-usblp and reinstalled all the cups stuff
    Printer got recognized! Yay!
So, now the printer is set up in cups using the avasys driver. But...
    It doesn't print!
When I try to print a test page via the cups webinterface it keeps telling me
    Unsupported format "application/vnd.cups-banner".
The following packages are installed now:
    $ pacman -Qs cups
    local/cups-usblp 1.5.0-1
    local/libcups 1.5.0-1
    $ pacman -Qs foomatic
    local/foomatic-db 1:4.0.7_20110707-1

    local/epson-inkjet-printer-workforce-320-sx218 1.0.0-6
    $ pacman -Qs ghostscript
    local/ghostscript 9.04-5

Please let me know if you should need other outputs, logfiles, etc. I appreciate any idea that could help me to get this damn thing to finally print something.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi Radhakrishnan,
ORARRP doesn't actually do any printing itself. Via COM/Active-X, it calls the appropriate program that corresponds to the type of output, and then this program does the actual printing. For PDF, it calls Acrobat Reader to print the document. Acrobat Reader displays the printer dialog to let you choose which printer to use, and then when you click OK, Acrobat Reader prints the document and sends it to the printer.
I expect that you'll find that when you use Acrobat Reader yourself on this machine it has exactly the same problems with this particular printer configuration. If so, you'll need to contact Adobe for further assistance.
    regards,
    Stewart

  • HP Laserjet PRO MFP125nw doesn't print Microsoft Word documents from PC

    Hello.
I've recently bought a brand new HP Laserjet PRO MFP125nw printer. The functions seemed really nice and the price was acceptable. I've brought it to my home, installed it following the manual, connected it to Wi-Fi etc. It generally works fairly well. PDF files are printed perfectly well, the scaning function works and it's generally a nice piece of technology.
The only problem is that it just doesn't want to pring Microsoft Word documents from my PC. It prints it perfectly when I try to print .docx from my smartphone using the app, but it doesn't respond when I try doing it from the PC.
My Office version is 2007 Enterprise. Do you have any idea what I should do?
    Thank you in advance

Thank you a lot for a quick reply, Cbert. It's fantastic to see HP actually reading their forums and trying to help!
I'll try plugging it into the wall and directly to the PC with a USB, we'll see if it works out.
About Word, i've already tried reinstalling Word, even installed a 2003 version to check if it works with that. Well it doesn't. And as i've written before, I tried turning some .docx files to .pdf using a converter, but it still doesn't print them.
Anyway, i'll try the first two points and keep you updated, thanks!

  • HP 3540 AIO Printer DOESN'T PRINT BLACK TEXT!

I unfortunately have an HP AIO Printer Deskjet 3540 Series.
Upon haggling wiht the abject customer tech support for an hour, he asks me to re-install the driver. After doing so, the black text JUST DOESN'T PRINT!
Is this some kind of joke! I am going to run out of colored ink in printng the **bleep** test pages.
It's an absolute rip-off. No wonder people buy cheap cartridges.

    Hi @GaurangDivecha
Although I would be happy to offer you some troubleshooting steps, I think it might be best to call HP.
You are welcome to take a look at the following document to ensure you have done all the necessary troubleshooting; Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP ENVY 4500 and Deskjet In...
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
Don't hesitate to call, although the printer may be out of warranty, the cartridges could be in warranty; therefore, there wouldn't likely be a fee for the phone support. HP will, at HP's option, either replace products under warranty that prove to be defective or refund the purchase price.
To find the “Warranty Ends” date, look in the following table for the date's location on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM format, where YYYY indicates the year, MM indicates the month, and DD indicates the day.
    I hope this helps.

  • Canon LBP 6200d No longer printing on 10.9.5

I have a Canon LBP 6200d compact laser printer and it was working fine with the UK CAPT driver. I must have installed an update form Apple or something and now it no longer works. I removed the driver, added it again, deleted this and that in the /library/ folder and re-installed the CAPT software 3.67 and still nothing. It shows up in the USB discovery. I can add it and choose the LBP6200 UK CAPT selection and then it shown a green light idle online but when I send anything to it the light goes yellow and the job spools indefinitely.
So did Apple "seal" up this loophole of being able to print to a printer that is officially not supported by Mac in the US (It seems to be supported everywhere else).
    Thanks!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless - Doesn't print black

I set up a new Officejet 8000 back in about August of 2009.  I never used it much and it looks like I have about 29 pages which have gone through it.  Now I'm trying to use it and the black doesn't print at all.  I have gone through multiple print tests, etc. and the self test even just comes up in magenta.
The ink level on the black is about 50% so it looks like there is plenty of ink.  I have also taken the print head out and shaken it multiple times.
I read another post that indicated these printers had problems and it sounds like a warranty replacement but it just seems awfully early to have any problems with it.  Any thoughts on how to resolve or should I just call HP?

i have about 11 of these crappy printers on my site, i think i have sent more back to HP than i have actively working.
the current issue i have is also the black printing problem, its getting to the point where im considering recommending another supplier. HP's quality have gone though the floor with the recent crap they are producing..
cartridges are fine, even though the Hp rep i spoke to blamed the issue on the cartridge, it works fine in another machine, and a new cartridge also has the same fault. the print heads are also fine & replaced & tested in a working machine, same fault. all the cleaning pages & stages made no differance.
only solution - wave good bye and post it back to HP - yet again..
come on HP you used to care about your products and your customers, but lately you just churn our any piece of rubbish.
why have you let your standard slip soo far.. why dont you care about your customers anymore.
