Canon IR-C3100N Snow Leopard work around

I just got this printer.
Installed PPD v2.85, setup using LDP, select print from Mac and nothing come out from printer.
UFR II not working on this model.
Finally got it to work by installing older iR-PS v1.8.1 Canon PS driver meant for 10.5. Will not work from setup, need to tweak as below:
1) Install PPD v2.85
2) Install iR-PS v1.8.1
3) Add printer by selecting 'more printers' - Canon IP (PS) mode.
4) Enter printer's IP.
5) The setup will auto select 'Canon iR C3100 Canon PS' as PPD.
6) Change the PPD to 'Canon iR C3100' from v2.85 PPD.
Wahla it works! If you don't change the PPD, the print queue will say driver error, please reinstall driver.

Sounds like you went to a lot of trouble for nothing. By selecting the PPD, you have bypassed the Canon PS driver, so the process of adding the PS driver would be a wasted step.
While this may have worked for you, for the sake of anyone else reading this post, there is no need to add the Canon PS driver. The transport modules do not work on Snow Leopard and as you have said, if you left the Print Using set to the iR C3100 CanonPS, then you get an error. And by selecting More Printers > Canon IP (PS), you have basically selected IP > LPD as a protocol.
So, if the iR C3100 supports PostScript, then you select IP > LPD for the protocol, enter the IP address of the Canon, enter a queue name of LP and select the Canon iR C3100 in the Print Using menu.

  • Lion (non-Snow) Leopard Work-Around Question.

I have a four year old Black MacBook running Snow Leopard 10.6.3  and a Two Year Old MacBook Air running Leopard 10.5.2.  I can't find my Snow Leopard install disk.  If I download Lion to my Black MacBook, can I transfer the install package via Bluetooth to my MB Air?  If not, is there some other strategy I can employ?

Only if you frist update to 10.6.7 or later, so you can DL the installer. BTW, you can get a replacement install disc from AppleCare, providing you have the receipt. I've not tried to install Lion on top of Leopard, so don't know if that'll work, so all you can do is try it. Ensure that you have bootable backups/clones of your current installations before embarking on this venture.

Before upgrading to Leopard, be sure to determine if you need Classic.  You won't have access to Classic, unless you erase and partition your hard drive:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61301
Or use an external Firewire hard drive to run 10.4.11 or earlier.   Boot Camp is not available to iMac G5s.  iTunes 9.2.1 offers some compatibility in 10.4 for items you may otherwise want iTunes 10 for which requires 10.5 or later be installed.  See these links:

You'll need to use the original iMac G5 installer discs to restore your Classic environment, if you find you have to erase or partition a drive, unless you cloned it before.  See my FAQ* on cloning, which you should do before installing anything:

  • Anyone Figured Out How to Get Snow Leopard Working on a Retina 15" ?

    Hi All,
Has anyone figured out a way to get Snow Leopard to install and run stable on a Macbook Pro 15 Retina?
Just like Lion, Mountain Lion is flaky, and just isn't as rock solid as Snow Leopard.
Media, Finder, and a host of other system level attributes that were perfect in Snow Leopard are buggy in Mountain Lion.
Examples: Finder is weird now, and 19 full length movies that played perfectly in Snow Leopard under iTunes and my iPhone were wiped from my iPhone and deemed "not compabitle" under Mountain Lion.
As I posted when Lion came out, sometimes different is not better, it's just different. I now wish I hadn't sold my '09 Macbook Pro 17 to buy my Retina 15.
The big obstacle, of course is the fact that the Snow Leopard install doesn't have the correct drivers for video and other subsystems for my new Retina 15.
So, anyone figured out a work around?
    Thanks,
    Mark

You have got to be kidding if you think Windows 2000 was the most stable and bug free. And it quickly aged itself out of business and you could not connect any peripherals that appeared 2 years after its release. I think Windows 7 is far more stable and my second choice would be Windows XP.
Mountain Lion is running just fine on my late 2011 MPB and running fine on my 2 friends who have the rMBP. And they like to rub it in that they both have the rMBP.
And most people who rate such things claim Tiger was the most stable. You should have seen all the threads here with complaints about SL when it was released.

  • Canon printer and Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have now spent up to 8 hours trying to get my Canon MX 340 working again.  I checked the printer log and it said that the printmanagerfailed, I found a topic here about the same problem and it stated to go into system preferences and right click the canon printer and to select reset printing system.   Well I did that and it wiped out all my printers so needless to say that didn't work. Now I can't get it setup at all.  I have reloaded all of the drivers and software and it isn't even showing up in my system preferences so I can't add it.  I am pulling my hair out and really really need some help.  HELP!

Why would I go to HP printer support, it is a canon printer and yes I did download Canon's driver, what a joke.  I have found some information on this forum but so far no good.  At least I now have it showing up in systems preferences but still not working.  I wished I had checked all this b4 upgrading since I may not have done it.  I have downloaded the Apple supplied driver so if anyone out there knows what to do now I still need help.

  • Canon Support for Snow Leopard

Canon has posted their support schedule for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for their consumer printers.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8200620400.html
It looks like if your product is a few years old then it is not advisable to purchase 10.6, or be ready to buy a new printer.
As for their business products, such as the imageRUNNER series, none of the current Canon printer drivers work on 10.6. Having been involved with the 10.6 seed testing I found that while the drivers appear to install okay, the creation of a network printer queue fails. This occurred with the following drivers.
    CUPS PS v2.11
    PS v1.81
    UFR2 v1.80
    Fax v2.20
So if you feel the need to update, then beware.
If your Canon device supports PostScript, then you can use either the Generic PostScript included with 10.6 or install the Canon PPDs so that you get some finishing options.
If your Canon device only supports a Canon proprietary protocol, such as UFR2, CAPT or GARO, then there is currently no solution for them with Mac OS X 10.6.
    Pahu

if you have a PPC only driver, it is like for a printer that is 5, 6 or 10 years old.
LOL, nobody using Mac OS X is using drivers 10 years old. Mac OS X didn't exist ten years ago! I also wouldn't make such an assumption, given how many different printer companies are out there and how much skanky software I've seen from them. (Once, I downloaded a Canon driver that was an installer on a .dmg that was both zipped and stuffed, and the installer installed an installer that installed the driver. Absolute foolishness!)
Maybe you should go to your fav web site and get a new $79 model that is 4x the speed and 2x the resolution.
People who are using old printers with old drivers are unlikely to be using old, cheap printers.

  • Canon MP600 and Snow Leopard

Hi, does anyone know if the MP600 works with snow leopard? Canon says it's compatible but their drivers are not working at all. Are there drivers available even??? Thanks

I'm printing just fine to an MP600, though I have it connected to an older Leopard machine and am printing from the SL machine wirelessly. I lose some functions that way, and can't get a decent photo print unless I do it from the Leopard machine (not sure exactly why), but for everyday printing it works great.
One issue you might be running into is that there are two different drivers for the MP600... you want the CUPS printer driver, not the other one.

  • Canon lbp3200 on Snow Leopard

How do I get Canon LBP3200 to work on Snow Leopard?
I've installed the Euro CAPT 1.7 drivers and the printer is installed, but whenever I try to print the following message appears.
    Error: /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
    Thanks

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
There has never been an official driver for this model for the English regions. I think the CAPT v1.70 driver is from Canon Sales Japan and is just meant for their local market. If you refer to this [link|http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/lasershot/captu-intelmac.html] you will see the LBP3210 is supported, not the LBP3200, and that 10.6 is also not supported.
Via the [10.5 printing forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1224] you will see that some users with 10.5 did find that they were able to use this driver but only after installing it on OS X 10.4 and then taking the CAPT folder, in Library > Printers > Canon, and replacing the CAPT folder in 10.5. Not sure if you could use the same process in 10.6
If you had an old Windows XP computer you could use the following procedure to let you print from the Mac via the Windows computer to the LBP3200.

  • Back to my Mac not working between Snow Leopard work iMac and Lion home iMac

I have a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac at work running OS X 10.6.8.
I have a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac at home running OS X 10.7.2.
At present, I am unable to upgrade the work iMac to Lion because I need to run Intel's FORTRAN compiler, which does not yet work under Lion.
I have upgraded my MobileMe account to use iCloud on my home machine.  Because my work machine is still using Snow Leopard, I can't use iCloud on that machine just yet.
Initially, even after upgrading to iCloud on my home machine, I was able to use Screen Sharing from either computer to use the other computer.  I accidentally clicked "Turn Off Back to My Mac" in the MobileMe settings of my work machine.  When I click "Turn on Back to My Mac" to try and turn it back on, I consistently get the dialog box "Unable to start Back to My Mac     Back to My Mac could not start because of a MobileMe server error. Try again later. If this problem persists, contact MobileMe Support."  And hitting OK brings it back to the off state.  So I can not turn on Back to My Mac at work, therefore I can not connect to my work machine from home to use Screen Sharing like I want to.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Has anyone found out how to turn Back to My Mac back on in such a case?
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Adam

  • VPN NO LONGER PROVIDES NETWORK ACCESS using SNOW LEOPARD (WORKED OK BEFORE)

I was using the Apple VPN tool to access my business network (via Leopard Server) without problem when using Leopard.
After upgrading both the server and laptops to Snow Leopard, I can successfully make a VPN connection to the server, but cannot access any of the devices on the network (printer, other computers, or NAS where my iTunes library resides).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi,
i had exactly the same issue, once i installed 10.6 the VPN would still connect, but alas i could not connect to the server internally or any other internal network devices. I solved it by disabling encryption on the VPN settings, it had 18 bit enabled by default, looks like 10.6 activates the encryption setting by default. So my advice is to ensure that if you do not have encryption enabled then make sure is is set to none in the VPN settings. Hoe this helps, like i said worked for me, but may not for you, give it a go and see what happens.
    Cheers,
    Gerry

  • Canon IR 3235 -- snow leopard -- problems with network printer

    Hi,
since yesterday I've problems to print to the network printer [canon IR 3235-3245] -- updated to snow leopard ca. 14 days ago, then experienced printing problems, search this list for answers, then downloaded new canon drivers, re-configured the printer in system preferences, send the print command --- and got 100s of white sheets of paper instead of the 2 pages I wanted ...
what was wrong, or can anybody give me a clue to solve this?
    thanks, bommelkamp

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
With regards to the printing of 100's of white sheets, this could be a result of using the Canon PPDs but not having the PostScript license enabled in the iR3245.
The iR3245 series is supported by the Canon UFR2 v2.00 driver. This is the driver to download if you haven't done so already. With this driver installed, you create an IP printer using LPD as the protocol and a queue name of LP. Then in the Print Using select the "Canon iR3235/iR3245 UFR II (UK)".
Alternatively you can use Generic PCL Laser Printer for the printer model instead of the Canon UFR2 driver. This will get you printing but does not support any of the copiers finishing options.

  • Mountain Lion/Mavericks 'breaks' wifi base station - Snow Leopard works fine

    Greetings all,
(Tried this in the OSx forum with no answers, so I figured I'd try the MacMini community and this one.)
I've been reading my way toward blindness through countless threads, here and elsewhere, from countless people, having problem with Mountain Lion and Wi-Fi these last few days, but some are using Airport, some are using third-party Wi-Fi routers, some aren't really specifying what they're using, so I thought I'd be as specific as possible about my situation - and add the fact that everything is still working fine if I boot into a cloned backup using Snow Leopard.
    ===
So here's the situation. I have a Intel Mac Mini which I use as a Wi-Fi base station for a Intel PowerBook Pro and an iPod 5. The Mini has been running Snow Leopard, and the PowerBook had been upgraded to Mountain Lion a few months ago. Things were still working fine at that point - the PowerBook's shift from SL to ML didn't affect its connectivity as a 'receiver' at all. About a week ago however, I finally upgraded the Mini to Mountain Lion as well (so that I could install the current version of Adobe Lightroom) and lost my Wi-Fi Internet access.
When I turn Wi-Fi on at the PowerBook, the Mini's network is visible, and I get the solid Wi-Fi fan showing a full connection, but I cannot access the Internet (indicated by the exclaimation point inside the fan for the first few seconds). The same is true on the iPod - I get the checkmark showing that I'm connected, but when I try to access any Internet services will get a pop-up box telling me that the Internet is not connected.
After going through pages and pages and pages of people struggling with similar issues on sites like this, and following suggestions like deleting my preference files, repairing permissions, zapping PRAM, creating new locations, changing IP addresses etc. I got no further. But since I had cloned my hard drive just before the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (thank you SuperDuper), I can reboot into Snow Leopard, and everything still works fine. With that advantage, I copied and re-created EVERY SINGLE preference in the system preferences for Network and Internet sharing* from the Snow Leopard into the Mountain Lion system. (I even went so far as to create a network in Mountain Lion's prefs. with WEP encryption instead of the newer WPA just in case that would make any difference at all.) But even with identical settings on the Mini regardless of booting into Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion, Mountain Lion remains the same - no problem connecting with the network, but complete inability to access the Internet. A few days ago, hoping against hope that an upgrade to Mavericks might reset things into some sort of working mode, I tried that - but no better result.
(*) I note that the wifi heading in the preference panes has changed from "AirPort" in Snow Leopard to "WiFI" in Mountain Lion and Mavericks, but I'm assuming that's just a change Apple made in its terminology to avoid confusion with the external AirPort options.
I would appreciate any suggestions any of you could give. And I would ask that you specify whether any suggested changes are to be made on the originating Wi-Fi station (in this case the Mini), or the receiver (in this case the MacBook). Many of the threads I've read to date can be confusing simply because they're not specifying on which machine any suggested changes need to be made, and while I'm sure there's nothing that needs to be changed at the MacBook, please specify if I'm wrong.
    Thanks again,

  • Can't print PDF's to Canon MP560 running Snow Leopard on MacBook

Since upgrading my 2008 MacBook to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago, I've been experiencing problems printing to my Canon MP560. Initially, nothing would print at all, even after updating my drivers, so I uninstalled & reinstalled the printer and it seemed fine.
Now I've tried to print for the first time out of Adobe Reader. At first, it was trying to force my jobs through the rear tray instead of the main paper cartidge, but I forced it through the cartridge through the print settings. Now when I hit print, the printer starts to receive the data, but the printer queue pops up with a generic "An error occurred while printing" message. The job then sits in limbo on my MacBook and the printer sits waiting to receive data, until I manually delete the job from the queue. I've confirmed that I can print from other apps (Word, Firefox); it's only Adobe Reader that fails me. I've made sure Reader was fully updated (it already had been), and the only Mac software update is the Java update that was just released this week. Ive pulled the plug on the printer to restart it, and I've once again uninstalled & reinstalled the printer on my MacBook.
    Any ideas?

Sorry to say this is one of those "I've been having the same %$#@!ing problem" through two OS upgrades and upgrade to Acrobat Pro X. Posting this becasue my symptoms are the same, including the rear tray commandeering, and that the printer is a Canon (MX860).
Can print PDFs from Preview and browsers. Grr....
