Canon iRC2380i with Mac OS 10.6.3

Hi all,
Our office has a number of iMacs running OS 10.6.1 that can print to our Canon iRC2380i using the UFR II driver, but we recently bought a number of new iMacs running 10.6.2 and lost the ability to print (Error -170).
Does anyone know if and how we can get printing again? Also could anyone please explain PostScript printing and PPDs and whether we could/should be using it?
Huge thanks,
Anthony
P.S. We also using print job IDs for accounting.

Hello Anthony,
The error could be occurring if you have selected the incorrect protocol when creating the printer queue. For the Canon UFR2 v2.06 driver, you need to use LPD for the protocol and I also generally suggest you have a queue name of LP. You can then select the "Canon iR C2380/2550 UFR II" in the Print Using menu.
With the printer created, if you then select to print something, such as PDF in Preview, then before actually printing change the menu to Special Features. Here you will see an picture of the copier and under that picture will be the button Printer Info. When you press this button a small message may appear "Acquiring Printer Info" and then another window should appear showing the Configuration of the iRC2380i and the amount of paper in the copier. If this works then you can OK this window to close it. Now, still at the Special Features menu, you should see that the Job Accounting button is ticked. Next to that will be the Settings button. Press this to open the ID/Password Settings pane where you can enter your job ID and password. Also here you can enable the 'Confirm ID when printing' checkbox, which will make this ID window appear every time you print in case you need to enter a different ID for different clients. If you just use the same ID every time you print then don't enable this checkbox. With your ID/Password entered, you can OK this window which will take you back to the print dialog, where you can press Print to send the job to the copier.
With regards to Postscript printing, there is currently no PS driver that supports your model and that works on 10.6. The current Canon PS v3.00 for 10.6 only supports the new imageRUNNER Advanced models. Canon will be releasing a new PS driver in May that is listed to support your iRC2380i, so if this copier does have the Postscript option enabled, then you will be able to use this new driver.
As for the PPDs, they also require that Postscript is enabled in the copier, and if it is, then the PPDs allow you to print from the Mac and select a variety of finishing functions, like stapling and booklets. However the PPDs do not support the extended functions of the copier, like Job Accounting and Mailbox printing. So since your office is using Dept IDs in the copier, then the PPD is not an option for your Mac users.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you need more assistance.

  • Anybody use Canon ZR950 with Mac Laptop and Final Cut Express

I just bought a Canon ZR950 Mini-DV camera and have been eyeing up a new MacBook Pro for editing video of my new baby (12 days to go). I'm wondering if anybody has had success with that model camera and FCE. Would I movie do the trick or is FCE that much better?
Also - would the 256mb video card model w/ the 15" display be okay?
Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time!!!!

I have my old Mac listed as my current computer (I use it to record music as it does exactly what I need). I've been looking at the new MacBook pro - wouldn't that work?
If not - which new Mac should I buy?

  • Canon pixma mp500 scanner not working with mac osx 10.6.8

I'm having difficulty using my scanner. I've updated the Canon driver with the most recent version. It recoginises the printer/scanner but won't import image. Has anyone had a similar issue and successfully resolved it?

duncan, I've got an MX 880 series all in one printer, and have the same issue.  A work around that I use is to select "e-mail" the scanned item. The scanned item is then inserted into an e-mail format where I can choose to download/save the scanned document into whatever folder I want.  This was the only expedient method I could find.  The Canon software capability between some of their newer printers and Mac operating systems is not totally compatible. For example, sometimes the top half of a line of text gets printed on one page, and the bottom half of the line gets printed on the ensuing page.  Doesn't happen often, but it is annoying.

You posted in the OS 9 & below forum. What OS X version are you using? What model Canon printer? Canon printers have a test print capability (open the Printer Utility). What happens when you do a test print? Are all the printer cartridges in their proper location? Sometimes when you print "black", the printer uses a mixture of the colors to get "black". In the Printer Utility, check the levels of the other cartridges. There may be one color that is clogged.

  • Canon Pro 9000 good printer but garbage with Mac

I have a canon 9000 pro printer, the interface for this printer with mac is just garbage.  No nice gui, I have to connect to http://127.0.0.1:631/.  Is there a way of setting the printer settings from the file/print options from the applications ?
It is looking like I will have to keep a windows machine for printing photos etc where I want to easily change the printer settings.  Is there a way around this??
If not what is a good A3 photo printer similar in resolution and quality to the canon that actually allows the user to use the printers full fucntionality from connected to a mac??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The iMac PPC can't run 10.6.8.  So either you don't have 10.6.8, or you don't have an iMac PPC.  PowerPC is the nomenclature for all CPUs used on iMacs from 1998 through 2005.  First identify your operating system, then you can properly identify what driver you need to use.  My FAQ* here on printers may be of use*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
Go to Apple menu (the blue Apple logo in the upper left) and click on About This Mac to determine what operating system you are running, and under More Info what iMac CPU you are using.  No need to repost.  Once you've properly identified your machine and operating system, I can ask a moderator to move your thread.

Is the canon eos rebel t3i compatible with Mac osx 10.9.1?
I am trying to transfer my photos from my camera to my Mac.
I have downloaded the software for the camera to my Mac BUT it cannot transfer the photos.
EOS Utility states that it cannot be used with this version of the operating system.
I am running on OSX 10.9.1
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I would try uninstalling the canon software and then just plug your camera into your Mac. iPhoto should be all the software you should need.

Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies.  How do I reverse this?

Paragraphs help the reader, just saying.
What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
It makes no difference at all.
How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
You're somewhat confused and you need to
    1. Decide what exactly you want to do
    2. Then go about it.
If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do -  the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto

  • Editing with Mac Monitor and TV.

When I try to view a TV and monitor simultaneously for editing I do not always get a picture on the TV. Sometimes sound only. I use a Panasonic GS 400 connected between monitor and TV. In preferences I have set iMovie to playback through camera.
It appears if I am viewing clips in the Clip Viewer and stay in that mode, even when moving the curser the pictures are OK. If I now click on a clip in the Clips Pane the picture on the TV disappears.
To get it back if I click on preferences>playback icon and then come out of preferences the TV picture returns.
As a matter of interest I have tried different connecting cables and a Canon camcorder with no change.
Is their anyone that can Help Please!

    Hi
    Recognice this wagely.
Using two ways to connect to TV (one at a time)
    • Canopus ADVC 300
    • Sony TRV 900E
The Sony Camera keeps contact all the time but my Mac dislikes it when starting-up
    (has to be de-connected)
The Canopus drops contact from time to time - toggling the Analog or Digital input switch
    most often re-connects.
Not sure if there is a fix for this but You might try:
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08)
    • Program miss-match: iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match: iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    iMovie pref file resides:
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named: com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
From LKN 1935: (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

  • I can't install the canon irc2380i

I can't install the canon irc2380i printer on my macBook pro, OS 10.9.4- Thx for help

The iR series support Canon's proprietary UFR2 printer language by default. So this would be the preferred driver to use if you are not sure if the optional Postscript print kit is installed in the copier.
The iR C2380 does not support Bonjour, so you will need to know the IP address of the copier to add it to the Mac. So after you install this driver, select to add the printer and press the IP icon in the Add printer window. Then enter the IP address of the iR C2380, set the protocol to HP Jetdirect-Socket (important), leave the queue name blank and select "Canon iR C2380/2550" in the Use menu. Then click Add to complete the printer creation and then see if you can print.

  • Need Photoshop Elements RAW plugin for Canon 70D using MAC

Need Photoshop Elements RAW plugin for Canon 70D using MAC - please advise where I can find it to download. Thanks.

To work with the Canon 70D, you will need Camera Raw version 8.2 or later:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
In order to work with this version of Camera Raw, you will need Photoshop Elements 12:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
If you do not have Photoshop Elements 12, you can use the DNG converter to convert the CR2 files to DNG, which will then work in whatever version of Photoshop Elements you have:

Is CanoScan 8400F scanner compatible with Mac OS 10.9.2 (Mavericks)?

This is not true.  I've been using my 8400F with Mavericks since it was released.  However, mine was an upgrade from 10.8, so whatever drivers Canon installed when I bought the scanner several years ago continues to work.  And my new Mac Pro that I used Migration Assistant with also works with the scanner.  However, the other Mac Pro that was a clean install can't see the scanner and Canon's site claims there are no drivers.
