Canon iRC3080-J1 – won't print

We have a Canon iRC3080-J1 printer networked andused by about 20 users. It's not shared through a server but working as a "standalone" printer.
This far it has been workin ok, but a a couple of weeks ago it just stopped working from my workstation. No one else has problems with printing (all workstations are MacPros with 10.6 so thery're quite similarly configured) but when I try to print, I get the message telling that the printer driver has been installed incorrectly and it should be installed again or I should ask help from the manufacturer.
So I've reinstalled the driver several times, no help. I've called Canon; they told me to reinstall the driver and if it won't work then I should do a clean install of OS X. So no help - I won't reinstall the OS, all the programs and configure the machine; I suppose that if I use time machine or migration assistant, the problem comes along with the restored data.
So any ideas how to get the printer working without a clean OS install and manual data and setting restoration?

There was no official driver for Snow Leopard for the imagePASS-J1. So the procedure for 10.6 is to download and install the J1 driver for 10.5 and then to run the Snow Leopard update.
From reading the post it sounds like the update has failed - that message is typical for the 10.5 driver on 10.6. So you could look at applying the 10.6 update again.
If that doesn't help then I suggest you delete the existing printer in Print & Fax and then trash the PS3 folder in HD > Library > Printers > Canon. Then you can install the J1 driver again followed by the 10.6 update.
Also, just to check that the printing system is not the cause, on your Mac you can create another print queue to the Canon but this time using Generic Postscript in the Print Using menu. If this prints then it does point more at it being a driver issue rather than an internal print system error.

  • Canon IP7250 - Color won't print - Please help

I have a Canon IP7250, two day ago, my printer showed me error C000. I resolved this error, but now my printer won't printing in colour. Black working properly. I tried many times to cleaning a toner in mainteace. When I go to "print head alignment" then shows error 2500. ? In nozzle check black colour is excellent but no other colors on paper.
    Please, help me.
    Thanks.

Again, the username/password, would either be your logon username/password or your "root" username/password if you have enabled it.
Another option would be to update your CUPS software. Multi-functional printers are usually "tricky" to get full-featured drivers for. It's possible that a newer version for this particular printer may exist with an update.
Still another option (and possibly a better one) would be to download and install the latest Gutenprint printer drivers. These were formally known as Gimp-Print drivers. (ref: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3)

  • Canon Selphy CP730 won't print anymore

After installing the latest iPhoto (7.0.2) my Canon Selphy CP730 Compact Photo Printer won't print photo's from iPhoto anymore. The light on the printer blinks for a second, goes red and then back to green, while an icon in the Dock shows the CP730 with a red exclamation mark.
The strange thing is that I can print from all my other applications to this device. And with the previous iPhoto there where no problems either. I already reinstalled the drivers for the CP730, without succes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michel

    Michel:
Try deleting the various printing pref files. One would be located in the User/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder. It would look something like this: com.apple.print.Cache.0016cb3791b6.plist (number will be different). Also com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist and any obvious Canon prefs for the printer. There will be a lot of other Canon prefs but look of any that are obviously linked to the printer. You may not fine any, however.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Canon Pixma 8120 won't print after new hard drive + TC install

I have a great Pixma 8120 which was previously successfully networked wirelessly to an intel imac SL 10.6.8 and
a Macbook Pro running Lion.  Our internet connection is Fios via router and the imac had been connected via
    ethernet to the Fios router.
Last week, the imac's hard drive needed to be replaced - Apple Geniuses
installed the new hard drive at the apple store and restored all of the data.   I bought a new Time Capsule
and backed up the new hard drive as soon as I got it home (yes I got religion).
I now have the TC connected via ethernet
to the router and set up a new network -- connected both the imac and the macbook  via airport no problem.  Nice
    fast internet (safari).
The problem is the Canon printer.  I configured the printer to recognize the new network over the TC and was able to
connect it via wi-fi to the access point.  When printing however, the printer icon pops up in the dock and looks like its starting
to process the job but then the job disappears fromt the print queue screen.  poof.  nothing.
I  suspect I may have a problem with the TC's security settings not being compatible with the canon - the canon manual does say something about the canon not supporting "enterprise" and I did see that in the TC settings.
I have a huge work project due tomorrow so I decided to forego the wireless thing for now and just hook the printer up
via USB to the imac.  I reinstalled the Canon software following the all directions for when to plug in the USB in the process.
It didn't work.  Then  I went to the Canon support page and downloaded/installed  an updated driver. Now I have
a nice new looking printer icon but when I try to print it starts and then gives me a "communication error has occured"
    message -- error 306.
Does anyone have advice for me?

Never mind.  I realized that I needed to ethernet the imac to the TC.
I just got the Canon to print. Sorry to bother.

    Hello,
Please visit the following website, click "Software," and download the "My Image Garden" software.  This should allow your printer to be able to print onto CDs.

  • Canon i80 won't print

Having a problem with Canon i80 which won't print. The document goes to the que but does not print. Any suggestions?

    Hi tunanut1,
Removing and reinstalling the printer on your computer may resolve the issue you are experiencing.  You can also try removing the USB cable from the printer and the computer and then reconnecting the cable to both devices to ensure that the connections are secure, or try using a different USB cable if you have one available.

  • I can't connect my canon mp160 to my new apple iMac desktop. It just won't print although it comes up as the printer. there is no driver for this from canon who states that I probably don't need a driver for this

I can't connect my canon xp160 to my new IMAC. It does recognize it but won't print. there is no driver for this as per Canon and they state that I may not need one. thanks!1

If you want to print, then you will need a printer driver. There is no printer driver available from Apple for the MP160. And the last driver that Canon released for this model was for OS X 10.7. You may be able to install this 10.7 driver, although it is not digitally signed so Gatekeeper will block the installation. To get past Gatekeeper, you can hold down the Control key and click on the installer. A pop-up menu will appear. Select Open. You will then be given the option to install the old driver.
With the driver installed, add the printer via Printers & Scanners and see if you can print.

  • I have a canon pixma mx360 all in one printer and it won't print

my printer won't print I just replaced the ink. I tried to trouble shoot the printer, and it said that I had a printer error in the que.
I cleared the que and it still won't print. can you please help me figure this out? my printer is a pixma canon mx360 all in one
    ink jet.

    Hi wendasa,
If you have any antivirus or firewall programs on your computer, please temporarily disable them and then try to scan again.  Sometimes these programs can block the scanning process of the printer.  If you are still unable to scan, we can try scanning using the Microsoft Paint program to see if the scanner function of the printer is working.  To attempt to scan using Microsoft Paint, please follow these steps:
    1.  Launch Windows Paint by pressing the Windows Key+ R, then typing mspaint, then clicking OK.
    2.  Once inside of Paint, in the upper left corner you will see a blue square; please click on that and select FROM SCANNER OR CAMERA.  A window will appear asking you what device you want to use.  Please select the PIXMA MX360, then press the OK button.
    3.  In the next window, you should have the option of selecting a document type; please select one, then press the SCAN button in the window.
Are you able to scan using Microsoft Paint?

  • Canon imagerunner C3200 problem - won't print

    Hi to all,
I have searched this forum and not found this error/solution.
We just switched from PC to Mac and of course all is heaven! Except one tiny issue - going crazy.
We have installed the printer driver from Canon for all of our imagerunner printers (IR400, IR600 - they are going fine). However, the IRC3200's (we have 2) are NOT printing that well from the Mac.
Whenever we try to print a PDF file to the IRC3200 it just hangs - it won't print - and if by some chance it does, it prints so slow like one page per hour.
We have read and tried as much as we can and we are just stuck. If anyone here has experience or advice I would appreciate greatly for how to print!

Hello Judy and welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are two printer board options for the iRC3200. There is the internal Canon board and the external imagePASS-C1 (Fiery). The Fiery would be a white metal box on the back of the machine.
If you do have a Fiery but were using the Canon board PPD, then this could explain the problem.
The other thing to note is that if you have the Fiery, the driver would need to be the latest Universal Binary (MacTel). Having looked to the Canon USA web site previously they do not make it obvious as to which driver you need.
So if you could reply about the iRC3200 having the internal board or the Fiery, then I can provide more accurate replies.
Just one last thing. In our region the iR400 and iR600 came standard with the internal Fiery printer board - there was no Canon board options. As there has been no driver released for these models for Snow Leopard, then can you confirm that you are using Generic Postscript to print to these two models.
And you also using the same driver to print to the iRC3200?
    Pahu

  • After upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print

after upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print. It's a canon MP540 on a wireless network. It will print a test page but won't print from any application, just sits there with the message 'copying print data'!
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), with firmware SMC Version (system):          1.73f63.
    Any help gratefully received.

First off if you can print a test page there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't be able to print from a application...none.  But stranger things have happened now that we have Lion.  Within the application are you selecting the wireless printer........just had to check.
I have the MP620 which is simlar to your MP540 and have no problems printing from my MBA (June 2011).  I too have the latest firmware and software......without problems printing.
A few things I'd try would be to remove the wireless printer from your computer (in Preferences, printers), restart, and repair permissions.  Then add the wireless printer back, and see if it works.  If not.....power OFF the printer and turn back on.
If the above fails reinstall the printer driver (yours) I think you will have to plug in the USB cable.
Keep me updated and I'll tyr and help!

  • My canon 5320 has ink but won't print on mac os 10.7.5

my canon 5320 has ink but won't print on mac os 10.7.5

    Hi olschoolmike_1,
To try and resolve the issue, you will want to confirm that the inkjet nozzles are dispensing the ink correctly by printing a nozzle check pattern from the printer.  If the pattern does not print correctly, we recommend performing at least one cleaning and two deep cleanings on the printer to try and get the ink to print..  To print the nozzle check pattern and perform the cleanings, please follow the steps located here.  If you still experience difficulty after performing the cleanings, please call or email us using one of the methods on the Contact Us page for further assistance.

  • Canon PIXMA MX712 suddenly won't print or copy anything - no color, no B/W, not even with Deep Clean

Canon PIXMA MX712 worked great, no degradation in print quality (over last 1.5 years).  Suddenly won't print or copy anything.  Can't print wirelessly (from IPAd or computer) or plugged in with USB directly to laptop.  Can't copy.  Makes normal print head sounds and "prepares" to print.  Sounds like it is working and spits out nothing but blank pages.  Tried doing test print and nothing shows up on page.  Tried doing a deep clean and still nothing.  Tried unplugging and letting it reset and turn back on and still nothing.  Tried switching out printer cartridges and still nothing.  All lights are on for the print cartridges.  The printer says it is ready and never received a print error.  Please help me stop getting nothing but blank pages.  It would seem normal to start having streaking or blotchy prints, but not just to work great one day and then stop.

I have the exact same problem ... printer is about 18 mths old ... I have done what has been suggested ... any other ideas
